I think this is my first review of the year! Hooray! I've actually stayed in the connected inn a few years ago when interviewing for a job. Super cute and comfortable. But I never stopped by the pub since it was a work trip. But I stopped by on Sunday and enjoyed the Irish atmosphere. The Packers game was on so everyone was captivated by that but the bartender quickly got to me for my order. I think this is a quite charming pub. A wonderful place to stop by with friends and check out the decor. I love a place with lots to look at and observe. The beer was good too! They also have mixed drinks, but as a beer lover I stuck to what I know. I'll be back soon to spend a bit more time in this lovely , tucked away bar. read more

Update 1/20/23 - I loved Country Claire and thought they had the best eggs bendict / hollandaise. With some interruptions from Covid (for a while they had limited menu) decided to go back when I found out the Irish breakfast was back. The service and atmosphere were great. I was going to order an Irish breakfast but after finding out that the same chef still works there switched to what I thought would be the best salmon Benedict in town. Sadly not the case. The Benedict looked nothing like it used to. The hollandaise sauce was just thick dark and it sat on top of the eggs. Not creamy and not that nice eggy flavor. It was a total disappointment. Additionally I had a horrible upset stomach later. Was it the salmon Benedict? I didn't eat anything else that day.... Il didn't take a photo of the Benedict but again, thick dark clumpy sauce that just sat there. Maybe it was under the heat lamp too long? I don't know. But was very disappointed- from the best Benedict in town to the worst. The Irish frittata my partner had I heard was bland ans not anything interesting. Not sure what made it Irish. It was a tiny portion. Thé bloody Marys-not what they used to be. Served in a smaller glass and not as tasty. It is possible the other dishes were as good aa before but not really tempted to try sadly. I built the expectation for others in my party (was my idea to dine here) and it crashed unfortunately. So after my flight from Seattle to Milwaukee, had a tiny mocha, followed by a very filling Serbian dinner, I was getting a bit heavy lidded. Warmth and a satiated stomach, I was craving a good night sleep. But wait there's more said my eager MKE host to introduce me to his home city's celebrated beer culture at County Clare Irish Pub (2/16/20). A very welcoming interior and also well patronized at this late hour. Our kind bartender was patient as I looked at their whiskey list. Ended up passing on a night cap though. Instead my MKE host placed a huge pint of Guinness for us to consume. Uh, I don't drink beer. And he shouldn't imbibe either. I did take a few heroic sips, but ended up leaving the majority behind. Wished it was only a tasting or a schooner, felt bad leaving the perfectly poured pint back on the counter. read more

Had a Milwaukee Mule and then the Grilled Chicken with the vegetarian chicken substituted. Very good sandwich, enjoyed it quite a bit. Side got tator tots which were tator tots. Overall was decent, tad expensive. Lots of clearly marked vegetarian options on the menu is a huge plus read more

It's an Irish pub, nothing special but they did have live music if you want to do a jig. For food, I had the classic Shepard pie. It was really good! The gravy was a little thinner than expected. Almost watery but flavor was good. I thought it needed some salt n pepper which rounded out the flavor once added. Definitely going back for the pie. The hefty portion of mashed potatoes were cooked perfectly. Not too creamy, not to dry. I also had the soup. The waiter recommended it as a patron favorite so I ordered a bowl. It was okay. It wasn't bad but nothing to rant and rave over. I wouldn't order again not because it wasn't good, but because I'd rather get my fill of amazing food. All in all I'd say give it a shot. read more

Stopped in County Clare for a quick drink, and it was really quiet for a Thursday evening. I ordered a Milwaukee Mule, which was really good and larger than you get at most local restaurants these days. We also go an order of the Rueben Rolls, which were pretty simple - but very good. We also each ordered a side of mashed potatoes which were great! They said they're mashed potato special changes frequently, but I'm sure you can't go wrong. read more

So good we went back to the next meal. And the meal after that. First let's start with some recommendations. Go there for brunch on the weekend and get the Irish Grilled Toast. Imagine a French toast made with potato bread... that's the start. Then make a maple syrup with hot butter and add whiskey. OMG! I am tearing up just thinking about it. Want to add alcohol to your alcohol and then add a beer to that alcohol? With the Irish grill toast, add a bloody moire and make it spicy. The Bloody Mary (with a twist) has basically a meal on top. Stayed 3/17 for one night. Knowing this would be a very busy day here, we were amazed at the courtesy and friendly atmosphere of the staff. Our room was very clean and large. Considering the amount of people in the pub area, we never waited more than a few minutes to be attended to. The customers were a pain as the day we t on but the staff were phenomenal. Food was served quickly and more than one could eat. We were told of noise and parking issues but it was expected on St. Patrick's day Thank you to security who was always making rounds to assure everyone's safety. We had all just traveled through Ireland for two weeks in June so when we saw this place it was a must try kind of place. It totally has the look and feel of many of the Irish pubs we frequented in Ireland. And the Guinness hit the spot just the same. Now that said, the food I did not find amazing but still tasty. We haven't been to County Clare in AGES, which is a crying shame. We both wanted something "cozy" for dinner and the Mister suggested County Clare - it was a good call. As others have noted, parking will be hit or miss as the lot is reserved for hotel guests. We got lucky with a nearby space and headed in. The dining room is decorated in shades of green (of course) with stained glass accents. In cold weather there's a cozy nook with a nice fireplace. Of course, there's also a wonderful wood bar with plenty of Guinness on tap. We both started with root soup ($4.50/cup) which is a blend of sweet potatoes, leeks and carrots. It's thick, comforting and slightly sweet - and served with a creme fraiche shamrock on top. They've had it on the menu forever for good reason - it's tasty. For dinner, the Mister opted for Guinness pot roast ($16) and he said was was exactly what he wanted. I had a bite and thought the beef was tender and perfectly seasoned. Because I'm a Plastic Paddy, I picked corned beef and cabbage ($15) - County Clare's corned beef is really good. Just fatty enough and well spiced - it's served with potatoes, fresh cabbage and a warm slaw. I'm not the biggest fan of that last one because it ends up being just more cabbage. I'd rather have a more traditional veg like carrots or parsnips. Still - overall really good. We ended with the seasonal creme brûlée which was "brandied Apple". Sadly, it tasted of neither Brandy nor apples, just a custard clearly cooked long before. It was cold in the middle and had a mealy texture - meh. A table next to us got carrot cake and that looked WAY better. Service was fast and professional - we never lacked for anything and never had a dry glass. Prices are quite reasonable for a downtown-ish location and overall quality is very good. We won't wait so long for a return visit, that's for sure. read more

How disappointing. Service was not good, coffee cold (even though they had just opened), order was wrong, food overcooked. Attitude seemed to indicate that the patrons were not considered "guests" but an annoying necessary evil. The atmosphere is so nice and the menu is cool... too bad they can't seem to care about their customers. We've tried it several times over the years and keep trying to have a good experience, but this was our last attempt. read more

Great place for breakfast and really nice service. Everyone at our table got different things from the breakfast menu and all of them were tasty. The American breakfast with the hash brown discs was a great choice and I had the Irish breakfast which was fantastic, even the stuff I didn't expect to taste that great. Recently moved to the neighborhood and I have given the bar multiple chances considering how beautiful it is. Each time we were treated as complete outsiders and made to feel unwelcome in the space from bar tenders and patrons alike. Truly not sure why this is a commonly occurring issue considering I have never experienced this at any other establishment as I pride myself in being a respectful and friendly patron. We were pleased with our experience here. The food, the atmosphere, everything was great. I love that they played Irish music. The music was so joyful. We got Irish root soup, corned beef sandwich, cottage pie, carrot cake and bread pudding. The root soup was so interesting. It was flavorful and herby. I added some salt and pepper to make it pop. I don't think you needed to. The corned beef was perfect. The mash potatoes in the cottage pie went well with the pot roast. I would prefer they didn't shred the meat thinly. That is just me. I like the meat to be a bit chunky and little bit fatty. Still it was a very good cottage pie. The carrot cake was so good as well. Not too sweet. It didn't have any raisins or nuts in it. I love having raisins and nuts in carrot cakes. Additionally, the bread pudding was delicious. It was a bit buttery which I didn't mind. The rum sauce was a nice touch to the bread pudding. Imagine being in Ireland with a 20 minute car ride under 8 miles to the east side of Milwaukee. The staff and customers were warm and friendly in this Irish pub/ restaurant / bed breakfast. I was told that the food here was great and shepherds pie is well made. Corn beef appetizers were delish not too dry or salty, just right. I stopped in with a few Yelpers and tried a new place that I usually wouldn't go on my own. I was pleasantly surprised with the great selection of drafts. The location can be a bear to park at but this was made up for with fun times. This will be another place that I have to thank both Ivy and Rachel from Yelp for helping me find my way to a new place for fun indeed. Honestly, despite being pretty Irish, I usually avoid Irish restaurants because they are often ultra meat heavy. So, imagine my delight when I discovered this place has an entire vegetarian menu! They make their own seitan in house! My husband and I shared the brown bread and blue cheese dumplings and they were good. I got the vegetarian reuben and I liked it. The seitan wasn't all that flavorful and there was barely any 1000 Island dressing on it, but overall it was tasty. All of the food was served just barely warm and I wish it was hot. The dining room is really pretty with huge windows. Parking can be a pain but that's just the area. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable. At the end of the meal, our group of friends paid with a couple different credit cards, but wrote each total on the receipt. She said that's not something that they do, but that she'd do it anyway? Lucky to have stumbled upon County Clare Irish Inn & Pub for great food & drink in the Irish tradition. They are a gem tucked into the downtown area. Of course I ordered and loved the Corned Beef & Cabbage. Accommodating service, satisfying food, and we were blessed with a great outdoor weather & dining. Very Irish Pub style menu -- it appeared there are more drink options than food options, so many Irish whisky based drink options and where else do you find a good ginger beer? The inn side of the business seemed good, well- dressed happy people coming & going, ready for weddings and nights out in downtown Milwaukee. Outstanding! Food, service, atmosphere, it's all here. Busier than expected for a week night and that was our first sign we had found something really good. The menu isn't broad and that's fine. The focus is quality. All our dishes were clearly made with care and fresh ingredients. We enjoyed Cottage Pie, Shepherds Pie, (beef vs lamb) and both were flavorful, piping hot and piled with a mound of wonderful mash. I have been a patron of County Clare for about 15 years. Why do I keep coming back? Well, I can't deny that it is blocks from my apartment. But that alone would not bring me in the door over and over again. I go for their happy hour, because of the warm setting, and even warmer service from their friendly bartenders and staff. Sometimes I will stay for the evening meal time, or I will pop in on the weekend for brunch. I will always recommend their soup of the day, which I think is the best homemade soup in the city. Sometimes I will go for the Friday night fish fry. Frankly, this can be somewhat hit or miss. It's probably because they get so busy that from time to time the fish will be overcooked, downright burnt at times. But more often than not, it's flaky and moist with a scrumptious beer batter. Their corned beef sandwiches, which you can get any day of the week, are perfection. Any time that they offer live music. I recommend that you go and experience genuine Irish folk music. And I should mention that many on staff are actually from Ireland! So you might be treated to a sweet story from the old country. And if you want a perfectly poured Guinness complete with a shamrock on top, this is the place to go. I had the good luck of winning a free night's stay in their bed and breakfast a few years ago, and the room was quiet, with an unbelievably comfortable bed, beautiful linens, and a hot tub! This place has so much going for it that you cannot find anywhere else in Milwaukee. Please give it a try, and tell them that Shaia sent you! read more

Food here was surprisingly good. We ordered garlic mushroom, mussels, meatloaf, Reuben, etc. everything tasted great. There happened to be live performance too on the Thursday night we were there. The interior looks Irish and nice too, which was certainly a plus to the dining experience. Don't know if our waitress was newer or happened to have a long day, but she was forgetful during the dining, and was not attending us when we had empty beer glasses and our jackets on for at least 15 minutes when we decided to step up ourselves.
