After a VERY disappointing experience at another restaurant (never got seated even after waiting 10 minutes. Staff could clearly see us but chose to ignore us) we got back in our car and drove around looking for anther place to eat. We saw the name and chuckled a little because we are cousins and attached at the hip. My cousin then said "Let's try it. Why not? The name has to be a sign". Boy am I glad we did! I traveled into the Dalles for a week long work trip. I had planned to try some different locations but decided to try Cousins the first night for a burger and a cold beer. The barkeep greeted me and took the order. As I waited she started the conversation and was quite funny. Everyone has to stop here if not for the food but the atmosphere. Similar to country cousins in chehalis it is heavy on the farm theme. Grand kids love it. Very busy and you feel rushed. Coffee comes in a pot, sausage doesnt come in links. Bacon is crisp, toast is soggy. We only eat breakfast here. Never had the cinnamon rolls, but they are huge- Take a picture out front with the farm animals leave with a smile. Six days later we stop for lunch. It was 1:00. Took 15 minutes to get water.. Manager says "I don't know, but will find out and correct it." Then brings out 50% more onion rings. THAT'S customer service. All that other stuff...she'll sort it and them out. this was our first time here so i can't say much but the inside was super cute and cozy! our only issue was when we got our food, the chicken burger i ordered arrived cold and very undercooked. we told our waitress and she told the manager who apologized, didn't charge us for it and gave us a free cinnamon roll which was awesome of them. their service was great from the manager which we appreciate and if we're ever able another time to visit the dalles we will try again and see if the food is any better! read more

Cousins was all my buddy Arthur and I would talk about couldn't want to go back. Came here today, I got four burnt small shrimp for the same price! $8.99 over over 2.00 per shrimp. Not happy! Also ordered a cinnamon roll. Well not happy about the cinnamon roll either. It had a dollup of butter on the top- well IMO it wouldn't need all that butter if the cinnamon roll was cooked better! Great place to stay- the room was nice with an updated bathroom. Not the highest quality mattress but comfy enough. The Lite Breakfast: eggs, a beautiful, picturesque biscuit, and hashbrowns cut from fresh potatoes. Very nice. They start the morning by giving you each an awesome cinnamon roll as well (small and sooo good). The ambiance is of a country inn- When you enter the restaurant, animal sounds (horses, cows, roosters) go off, the walls are rustic wood, there is a train that moves around the place near the ceiling, etc. Great experience all the way around. read more

My friend and I both had the Southwest chicken omelette. I had sourdough toast for my side and my friend had a biscuit and side of gravy. The omelette is fantastic. Great flavor. My wife and I always stop at Cousin's for lunch on our way through The Dalles. Over the past 10 years it has grown and expanded as people come for good food and quick service. This past week we stopped in at noon on a Monday. We sat in the bar (saloon) area because the main area was full with a lunch crowd. I ordered a "Windsurfer" (turkey) sandwich with the soup of the day as a side. The potato and bacon soup had lots of bacon and cheese floating on top of a cup of potato soup. Yum! The sandwich was on toasted sliced bread with turkey, cheese, tomato, and lettuce. The turkey slices were fresh and tasty. My wife had their "traditional" pot roast with a side salad. She enjoyed the salad much more than one she got elsewhere yesterday. (See my review of Falling Sky brewery). She loved both the salad and the pot roast. Good food, fast service, and well worth stopping for lunch or dinner. Try the traditional pot roast. A toy electric train wanders through the whole restaurant up high near the ceiling. The decor is a bit rustic or "country." Cousins now has a large hotel operation in addition to the restaurant but we have never stayed at their hotel. We keep going back. What an enjoyable stop! After a full day of driving, we wanted a restaurant within walking distance of our hotel. Cousins' met that requirement. When we walked in, the atmosphere felt homey. They have a bar area, a little general store section and a restaurant. The decor is very farm/country. In the restaurant we ordered from their Appetizer menu and had plenty to eat! You have never had better clam strips. They are amazing I usually eat in the bar because it's quick, and the Bloody Mary's are fantastic too. So is the chicken fried steak and eggs. And the staff. Very helpful and friendly staff who were not put out by the requests of our group. Lots of middle aged and pre-senior customers, at least when we were there in the late afternoon. Even tried dessert, which was plentiful and outstanding in quality, at a very reasonable price. Staff was friendly and helpful, although service was a bit slow. (The only reason I rated 4 stars, instead of 5) Bottom line: Definitely can recommend for dinner!
