A brownie with three scoops of ice cream, candied pecans, and caramel sauce isn't always a good thing. It should not be the size of a big box store. * * * Cover 3 is a fascinating place. It is a sports bar It has a million attractive wonderful aspects. It has a million pain in the neck aspects. Everything is a good news bad news joke. But the good news is pretty good. * * * I ran into the bad news right upon entering the restaurant. There was not a comfortable table to sit at anywhere in the restaurant except at the bar. Benches were so low that it was like being a four year old at the grown up table. I would have needed a telephone book to reach the table. Regular chairs don't face the TV so you have to crane your neck to see the sports. Comfortable curved sofa benches exist, but they are 500 miles from the TV. So I tried seat after seat after seat before ending up at the bar. The bar was okay. * * * The bar choices are ample and slim. There were surprisingly thin offerings on beer. There were WONDERFUL listings on bourbon and rye. I am a rye drinker, so I was in hog heaven. The tequila listings were pretty good too. Gin drinkers, scotch drinkers and vodka drinkers were just going to have to take what was available. The cocktail menu was about average. I was in a golden cloud of glory with all my choices. Angel's Envy Rye is first rate libation that is simultaneously fiercely peppery and sublimely smooth. Rough on the taste means usually means rough going down. This was BDSM with the grace of a feather. I was in love. * * * Chile con carne was a beautiful chili with brisket rather than the usual hamburger. Flavoring was superb. The brisket chunks were three times as big as you would comfortably want to put in your mouth all at once. You don't want to take a fork and knife to a bowlful of chili. So I was struggling to eat my meat all night while at the same time admiring the quality of the recipe. Cover 3 Kitchen Preppers: How much extra work is it really to cut your meat into manageablely sized pieces? * * * Garlic Mashed Potatoes had a picture of garlic walked in front of the potatoes while they were boiling. Garlic? What garlic? The handful of mouthfuls with butter were good. The rest was empty starch. * * * The human beings working the bar were fantastic. Two of the nicest and most helpful ladies working in the bartending trade. Good people count for a lot in a restaurant. * * * The sports televisions were great. Watching Duke eke out a one point win over Louisville in women's basketball was good times. * * * Then comes the dessert. Dark clouds. The brownie with three scoops of ice cream, candied pecans, and caramel sauce tasted fantastic. It was an irresistible end to a meal. But brownies should really really not be the size of a big box store. Remember from English class - "Enough! No More! Tis not so sweet now as it was before." The brownie was three to five times the size of a regular brownie - and this was before all the extra stuff was put on top of it. It was super rich and super good the way brownies are supposed to be. It was gooey the way super brownies are supposed to be. But the only human being in history who could have managed that sucker was Diamond Jim Brady, the notorious glutton of the Gilded Age. (Four T-bone steaks, two ducks, a half a dozen lobsters, three dozen oysters, two pounds of candy and an entire pastry tray were a normal dinner for him. He could go for more if there were special treats.) I went from being happy and in a good mood to being a little full, then more than full, then Jesus-Christ-I-Can't-Stand-It-Anymore. I left half of that brownie on my plate, and left Cover 3 nauseated and staggering. Not the way you want to end an otherwise fine evening. * * * Cover 3 has its definite attractions - even if you have to put up with the chairs. Bourbon and rye drinkers, take especial note. If you are going to have dessert, Bring a Sunday School bus full of second graders with you. One dessert will be enough to feed the bus. read more

This is a great place to go during NFL games. It get's pretty loud for UT games. Trace is a great mixologist and fun to chat with at the bar. He made me a great martini espresso. I did try a great red wine from California but it was chilled which is totally a Texas thing. You can't taste the flavors when it is cold. The air wasn't vacuumed out either. I will be back. This is such a good spot for any type of dinner plans. I really enjoyed the sports bar atmosphere and the dim lighting. Our server was incredibly helpful and definitely helped us picked really good choices for our meals. We got the Hong Kong Salmon and the Blackened Chicken and Shrimp Pasta. I absolutely love the flavors of the Hong Kong Salmon as it was a mix of sweet and tangy. The salmon was cooked throughly and the mushrooms and spinach added a great addition. The pasta was really tasty as well, I love the balance of both chicken and shrimp, i'm usually not a fan of angel hair like noodles, but these were really tasty. I'd love to make my way back for another dinner date, I'll definitely recommend especially for those who are looking to have an enjoyable dinner minus the insane prices at more upscale restaurants! read more

The restaurant is casual with ample parking. I was pleasantly surprised with how great the food was for a casual sports bar looking place. They has a nice variety of food from pasta to lettuce wrap to fried shrimp. They also have 3 N/A beers and extensive wine and cocktail menu. The fried shrimp was great and quite filling. The fry on both of those were good and the pickles had a hint of heat that was a good touch. I had the Mahi Mahi tacos for dinner. The cook was very nice and fish was moist. I had lunch today at Cover 3 with a good friend. Here's why this is one of our favorite restaurants in Austin!! We walked in at 1:30 pm and requested a large round comfortable booth. It was quiet, peaceful and we got the BEST server, Josh, who has ever waited on us there! Thanks to Josh and Chef Paco, we each had a gorgeous Allandale salad with grilled shrimp followed by our #1 dessert on the menu, peach pudding cake with ice cream scoops on the side!! Cover 3 has been at the top of my list for the last 20 years. The bartender did apologize once we finally inquired about our appetizer and let us know that there was a large gathering in the back that put them behind. We had a free hour before dinner reservations at Lonesome Dove, so we stopped in for a drink. Liked the ambiance. It's comfy and clean. Plenty of TV's all playing the Olympics. Drinks were good and reasonably priced. I had an espresso martini. It was a solid B Minus. Nothing flashy but tasty. Which about mirrors what I thought. A solid place, efficient and a good place to stop, have a drink, watch sports and hang out. Tried this place for a casual late lunch via our Offline deal. Food was pretty good - really liked the ranch in ranch chicken fingers to start. I only like tenders with a lighter style fried breading, and these were that. Then I had a Caesar salad with salmon and my husband had two sliders with fries. All good and came out fast. The waitress was very nice and on top of anything we needed. When I went to pay the check, I wanted to make sure I tipped her on the original bill, not the discounted Offline bill. Very strange though, when doing the match, the device's recommended tips were def way higher than what it said. If you just click 20% or 25% and don't do the math yourself, you would be way over tipping. Kind of strange so just look out on the bill! read more

I've been coming here for quite some time for business meetings and dinners. So I'm going to point out their event spaces. We usually meet upstairs in their balcony room overlooking the restaurant where they will have several great apps to choose from such as sliders, wings chicken strips and tex mex items all served in chafing trays. The upstairs area has many couches and is for casual events. At the back of the house is another private room for sit down dining or business presentations. The back room can seat up to 40 people and there is a large projection screen for presentations. They do have a full bar that you can sit at in the main room or choose one of the comfortable booths for dining. In the main room, there are numerous flat screens tuned in to sports channels. However, if you choose to have a family or work event with your business or family, this is a good place to have it and their table service is consistently very good and so is the grub. read more

Came in here for the first time at around 10 o'clock on Friday Cinco de Mayo to be exact! It was dead. There were literally no people inside couldn't hear the TVs. There was no music, and there was about 20 of us. Pretty boring. I will say they have a great drinks and a long list of whiskey and other liquor. We didn't have any food, but we also didn't get a food menu. Service was OK considering there was a lot of us, but we were the only people. I got my drink fairly fast but it did take quite some time to get our check. We stayed probably 30 minutes and ended up leaving because it just wasn't our vibe. I would come here again for the drinks. Not sure if it was an off day or if it's always like that, but the place is quiet. Has sort of a sporty vibe, but barely. Buttery hot Buffalo sauce, crispy wings, tasty Bleu cheese dressing and ranch. - Cover 3 salad (4/5): This was a great little side salad! The candied walnuts were so good, the goat cheese was perfect, and the dressing was a nice balance. - Blackened chicken and shrimp pasta (1/5): This was so bland and definitely the worst thing we ordered (go figure...pasta at a sports bar? Probably not the smartest choice). The chicken was dry and had 0 flavor. The shrimp had no flavor. The angel hair was over cooked. The sauce was bland. Just a no all around. Needed some acid for sure (lemon maybe, more tomatoes). Do not recommend, even if you're really in the mood for pasta. - Big Ol' Brownie (5/5): This was the best thing. They really deliver on the name - this brownie is HUGE, topped with a generous portion of vanilla bean ice cream, and it's melt-in-your-mouth goodness. We went here on a Thursday night to watch the NBA Finals and grab dinner and cocktails. We arrived at 6p and were seated promptly. Our server quickly arrived to get our orders. We started with two items from the social hour menu (corn ribs and fried shrimp). Both were good with the corn ribs being better than the fried shrimp. The fried shrimp was very greasy. I ordered two frozen margs (one strawberry mango and one just strawberry), both tasty! Our entrees were the green chile beef burrito and the wings, both were good and a nice portion size. We also ordered the Cole slaw and fries as a side. The Cole slaw was just ok, but the fries were good.
