This food truck was much better than we expected. They did a nice job of butterfly filleting the hotdogs and cooking them to maximize flavor. The fresh buns were roasted and the toppings were good. The hash brown flop wasn't as great as the dogs. The location is handy if you have laundry to do or you would like to get a coffee drink or ice cream. read more

I tried their German dog. It was good. I was driving through the town and found this on Yelp. Right in front of a coffee shop.

There is nothing that they do that isn't done well. Choose your flavor, and when they have specials make sure to avail yourself of them. I can't really list a favorite because there are so many wonderful concoctions made in this little truck - but I can say that most flops are not flops, and all of the homemade toppings are worth trying. read more

I was really concerned about getting a good vegetarian meal in Alpine that didn't consist of grilled cheese, when along came CowDog. The price was right and the food was amazing. There isn't a ton of seating room and since the food is a trailer, it's all outside. We came here for dinner tonight due to all the good Yelp reviews. This is a MUST for any of the following: people who want to eat local, foodies, vegetarians, carnivores, hot dog lovers, and anyone who does not want to eat Mexican food which is the only real other competition in town. This place blows away any American/New American grills or bars. The "El pastor" dog was my favorite and is a new delightful taste in my mouth due to the mix of sauces on top. I also had the veggie dog/fritter and it is amazing, trust me veg fans, I eat a lot of veggie burgers. Food truck man was very warm and friendly. Thank you for a great meal on a chilly rainy day. My husbands co worker told us this place was not to miss, so we stopped in on an exceedingly cold and windy day. He ordered some delicious enormous hot dog ( big means BIG), and I had a frito pie- not so big- but warm and delicious, amazing jalapenos. Staff was incredibly friendly. Plaine coffee let us eat inside their restaurant, but there is outdoor seating as well. Highly recommended stop! read more

It never occurred to me to do this prior to Cowdog. i stopped in Alpine for a day enroute to Big Bend. checked yelp for food recommendations and decided on Cowdog. great decision! it is truly a food truck, sharing a parking lot with Plaine Coffee, which itself looked great and i will surely try tomorrow morning. i ordered the small dog with chili and mustard. the bun and dog were quite good, but the chili was outstanding and worked very well with the dog. i'm quite sure that the magic at Cowdog, in addition to the friendly and welcoming staff, lies in the broad and complex selection of toppings. way, way too many for me to list, but plenty for all. no inside seating, but there is outside seating available, which is shared with Plaine Coffee. read more

This little food truck serves up some very tasty "dogs!" We had the frito pie & the green chili cheese dog. Both were excellent!!! I think I liked the green chili cheese dog better though. Only cuz I love green chilis & cheese on anything. The chili on the Frito pie was on the sweet side but was still tasty. The food was reasonably priced & the owners were super friendly. If you find yourself in Alpine & want a quick tasty bite to eat. Stop here. The hardest part will be deciding which dog to order! read more

I was recently trapped in Alpine, TX and despite the devastating wind, piles of dirt, and unbearable silence, a beacon of "all that is happiness" twinkled in the distance. As I neared the fading mirage, the unmistakable smell of joy and justice penetrated my nostrils. Hotdogs. I quickly dropped the weight I was carrying (pack, family, worries of the world) and sprinted to the lighthouse of hope: A grayish winnebago with a cow dog painted on the side. This was Cowdog. From their hand written menu (which seems to constantly be expanding), to their incredibly kind staff, these hotdogs were the saving grace I needed to survive in the desolate desert hell that is named Alpine, Texas. These hotdogs were like oxygen for my spirit and they gave me strength like spinach to Popeye. I effectively defended a cackle of babies from a ravenous pack of coyotes and I tied 7 rattle snakes into constrictor knots. I also completed the memoirs of great Barnebus Melancholy and the Rhino Rodeo (all twelve volumes) in one sitting. None of this would have been possible without the delightful satisfaction and pure ecstasy of taste that exploded from every bite of Cowdog's hotdogs. Please, for the love of all that is innocent in the world, travel to Alpine and stuff a Cowdog in your face. You've never seen true color, or known eternal love until you do. read more

Cowdog is about as refreshing as it gets in Alpine, Tx. In a sea of microwave filled kitchens and sloppy chicken fried something's, this truck rules the mean streets of Alpine. I've now been to Cowdog half a dozen times, and it's always wonderful, butterflied grilled hot dog with super fresh toppings. The Mexican, El Pastor....the list goes on. I give this a 2 Star, based on one issue. The dogs are great, and the toppings are wide in variety and flavor, and the definitely pile as much as they can on the dogs! However, on a visit to The Plaine one sunny morning, at about 10 a.m., we peeked into the trucks food service window, and found a slice of bacon just hanging out on the grill. We still are not sure if they had come in and left in a rush and forgot about it, or if it had been sitting out overnight. Either way, it set wrong with me, and I can't bring myself to order there anymore. If you're not super health conscious and don't care about the cleanliness and preparation of your food, have at it; their food always tasted wonderful! read more

Cowdog is the best food in Alpine, which is kind of sad when you consider that it's made in an old RV, while the rest of the town had actual kitchens. Every ingredient is fresh and high quality, and Alan the Cowdog master's most excellent palette makes combinations both simple and complex, but always exquisite.
