Jeff and his staff are absolutely amazing. My now fiance and I stopped into his shop a few months ago to look at rings. We had brought an engagement ring and diamond earrings that my father had given to my mother. I went in here to repair my watch. They repaired it, put a new battery in, and it only took 10 minutes! They also cleaned my rings. Everyone who worked there was very personable and welcoming. Denise and Jeff are such incredibly kind and amazing people. Their shop is family owned and they really take their time to make sure you're getting what you want. We were a little nervous going ring shopping together...I mean, where does one even go besides the obvious Kay or zales (which we weren't about) but they made us feel so comfortable, showed us SO many rings, worked with us to get the perfect ring, answered all the questions we had and also really worked with our budget (which wasn't huge) and didn't try to pressure or upsell us. My husband went into Cowan's Jewelers while I went into Subway to get a Sandwich for the both of us. While I was in Subway he was looking to get me Jewelry for Christmas even though I had told him that he didn't have to get me anything for Christmas.We really have been struggling financially really badly but he said that he wanted to get me something anyway. He bought for me a pair of hoop earrings and a necklace with a star on it because he said that I was his star. I had walked in while he still was making his purchase I was told to go back outside and wait for him I danced my way out. I can't wait for the next time when I will be able to walk in with him and look around the store just to see what Cowan's has in their store and to be able to see if they have anything that we could get for our nieces, nephews, my husband or just me. I was headed to the Fossil store at Woodbury Commons to get a battery in my Fossil smartwatch. Before making the drive, I first decided to check local jewelers and see if they could do the job. A very nice gentleman answered the phone and assured me they could replace the battery. I immediately drove over to the store. The gentleman was even more welcoming in person than on the phone. The watch was running in no time. I happened to mention another watch I had brought with me. This one was a Fossil watch as well. I'd already been told by the Fossil store a few years back that this watch would no longer work. I was told that a battery wouldn't help it. We'll, Cowans tested a battery in it and it is working! I had some of my late mother's jewelry to sell a couple of months ago. I read a lot of reviews and talked to a lot of people before choosing Cowan's. And I am so very glad I did. This was near the start of the pandemic, but Jeff and Denise were so welcoming and were very careful about masks, cleaning and keeping a safe distance. Once that wasn't a worry, Jeff worked with me on each and every piece. He didn't look at the jewelry as just a pile of money, he engaged me in conversation about some of the pieces and made me feel that he truly cared about the fact that he was putting a piece of someone's history in his hands in order to provide the sale. We talked for quite some time and showed me some of the history of the store and newspaper clippings of years ago. They are a family business in every sense. And when you walk into Cowan's, they make you feel like part of that family; that you made the right choice. He gave me an upgrade coupon that he runs in the Val-packs, so he was able to give me even more for my pieces. It was a big surprise when he told me their worth. Customer service was top notch that day because as soon as I walked in I was greeted multiple times and then sent to Jeff Cowan to have my jewelry appraised. Jeff's demeanor and personality was amazing and very friendly. It seemed as if it was more of a conversation instead of transaction. He went through the jewelry and showed me what had value and what did not and why it did not. He took the valuables and came back with a quote that I was very happily surprised with. Initially took my Victorinox watch to have it looked at as it stopped working. Batteries were changed but watch stopped functioning properly. Took watch back to Cowan's and after two weeks was told the issue wasn't the batteries and they weren't able to fix the watch. I took the watch to Swiss Watch repair center in Manhattan and was informed that the watch was damaged by person who tried changing the battery. Cowan's Jewelers were the only ones to open the watch. After having the watch repaired in Manhattan I returned to Cowan's Jewelers and they denied damaging the watch and initially said they didn't recall trying to fix the watch, even though they had the watch for over two weeks. They did not take responsibility for causing the damage. Not very honest people and definitely don't recommend having your watch repaired here. Owner keeps saying I brought the watch in not working. No kidding, that's why I took it in. Am considering going to small claims court but don't want to spend a day at court over $150.00. read more
