Not much to add. Enjoyed my time at this location. Get the chop salad. It's got this interesting textures. Like these peas. I think they're freeze dried. They look crunchy and sweet. It's a little on the pricey side for this salad but it works. Would come back again. read more

I hate airport restaurants. You're trapped. You don't have much choice. The staff are generally unhappy and mildly interesting. This place was sooooo different! We started with drinks. The choice and selection is amazing. They can pretty much make any drink. The food - unbelievable. Started with the infamous Stetson salad. It's incredible. I've never had anything like it! Short ribs and fillet minion were incredible. The best part - Terry - out waitress. She is awesome. She was so caring and diligent - unseen in most restaurants - much less an airport one! I would consider coming to the airport just for a meal here - forget about flying! read more

I used to be a regular at this Terminal 4 restaurant but I'm sorry to say it has gone downhill. The menu has been scaled back to just pub grub and the service was slow and rude. After waiting 20 minutes for someone to take my food order I got up to leave. I spoke to an older gentleman (he was apparently my server but he had not introduced himself as such) and instead of any apology for not serving me he said, "well, I walked past your table several times". Exactly, you WALKED PAST my table! isn't part of your job to actually stop at my table and take my order? and when I tried to catch your attention you turned your back. read more

Atrocious service from the host today. She said "let's get your table", so I followed and she yelled at me that the table wasn't ready yet. Are you kidding me? All she did was rearrange some salt and pepper shakers and then permit me to sit. But then, she wouldn't "let" us bring our car seat to the table, which would have fit just fine completely tucked underneath. I wasn't asking to block an aisle and didn't feel comfortable leaving it in front with her running the show. Our trip would be pretty much screwed if anything happened to it. They ask that you keep your bags with you at the table so they're not responsible, the car seat is more important. Not family friendly at all. read more

Gosh really wanted to love this place, great name and thought would be awesome to have a fun place to have dinner before our flight home. There were 7 of us gals and the waiter could not get our order correct. Then we got the bill and he tried to charge us for 2 other peoples meal. He corrected the bill and brought it back and the charges were still wrong. Three times to get our bill and then the final bill was wrong but we had to get to our gate. The quality of the food was also less than par! read more

Stetson chopped salad is still as great as ever. Glad to have a place to get it, as I heard their Scottsdale location shut down. Always go for the smoked salmon version and ask for no craisins, if you're not a fan of sweet (like me) I'm salads. read more

Pretty good spot in the Phoenix Airport. I ordered the Exotic Mushroom Pan Fry and was pretty pleased with the overall taste. A whole slew of different types of mushrooms in a savory brown gravy with avacado and polenta. The menu had some interesting/unique fare which I really like. I would definitely come back to try their breakfast enchiladas and a number of items on their 'grazing' section. The staff was friendly and fast, too. solid spot to spend if you happen to have a layover in phoenix airport. the hubby and i grabbed a table during brunch time. he drank beers, and i went with spicy tito bloody marys. a double will run you around $15 a pop. the menu sounded really appetizing, a little bit of everything to choose from. mike ordered the PLT- pancetta, lettuce, and tomato on a muffin with spicy mayo. the pancetta was def just bacon, and the spicy mayo was mayo. so pretty ordinary for the high price. it came with really delicious homemade potato chips. could've ate like 3 bowls of those! i had an order of the biscuits and gravy. the gravy seemed to be bacon based, interesting change from the usual sausage base. the biscuits it was poured over were decent. i liked the addition of crispy fried onions on top. cowboy ciao is definitely a solid alternative to your standard airport dining experiences. read more

Stetson chopped salad is not as beautifully presented as expected, tastes decent, dried sweet corn and and marinated tomatoes is a nice touch. Okay. It's in an airport with all of the connotations that implies. But oddly I have learned some really good places to eat are in airports. The sad part is that if you are not flying somewhere you are not going to be able to eat there. In any case, this place is nice, clean and, my god quick with the service. We barely ordered and the food was out to us. The Open Face Steak Sandwich is tender and flavorful. I am impressed. The chips served with it are excellent, the piece of advice I offer up is to be careful of the blue cheese on the chips. Mild is not a word that goes with this cheese. In fact my first bite clearly explained to me that I was having a chip with blue cheese on it. Or more accurately I was having a chip with my blue cheese. Wow!!!!! Came here a few months ago and ordered an open face sandwich and steak salad. For airport food it's actually good. Today we had ordered the chop salad as well as the tomato cream soup. The soup was very tasty as well as creamy. The salad, which was good however was meant apparently for a child. The salad, which is very pretty don't get me wrong is striped with tomatoes, sweet corn, tasted like corn pops as well as chicken. There is also trail mix thrown into the salad. The avocado ranch tastes homemade, but the portion size is ridiculously small!! I would suggest giving a little more food to the customer considering your charging higher end restaurant fees for small portions in a airport! The host was really sweet too and had to throw how a drunk customer. read more

The menu has more alcohol choices than good. So it loses 2 stars for that alone. Not a huge selection. And the food is meh. Several of the menu items are the chef's special of the day...like the quesadilla del dia. Today it was chopped steak, potatoes, and a bunch of other stuff in it. I just wanted chicken in mine. I'm not in the Phoenix airport often enough to be really annoyed, but it was tolerable in a pinch. read more

I'm not a vegetarian but that delicious mushroom dish entree was what I needed. Much better than the $5 on a coffee or carb item I would like to stress eat till I get home. Take my money and thank you for making it taste good. Oh and the service was fast and refilled my water. read more

As far as airport restaurants go, I enjoyed this place. They had a decent selection of food about the same price as other places. However, not much under $15, so if you are concerned about cost in the airport, this wouldn't be the best. I wanted a sit down place where I could drink and eat before my flight was delayed. Definitely over-priced for what it is, but that's life in an airport. If it cost this much outside an airport, I wouldn't be dining here, but pickings are slim for anything non-fast food in an airport. I ordered the breakfast enchiladas. The only issue was the eggs were runny, but some of the white was not cooked. I prefer over easy eggs, so they weren't prepared well. However, I easily pushed the uncooked white to the side and was able to eat the rest without issue. The chorizo wasn't super spicy but still tasted good. The drink menu was typical of an airport, so I had a cider since I didn't want to spend $13 on a cocktail. The service was also excellent. The waiter was very attentive, and the host chatted with me between customers since I was on my own waiting for my flight. I've been to plenty of restaurants in airports and the food still sucks, since you're trapped in the airport. While they have the same prices, I liked the food and would be happy to go back if I was waiting in Terminal 4 again. read more

Wound up here by accident but couldn't have been happier with with the food and service. My burger was excellent as was my wife's Reuben. The French fries (steak fries) were fresh, hot and seasoned to perfection! Will definitely return here the next trip through PHX. read more

Had a 3hr layover at Phoenix Airport and was super happy with this choice! The server was very attentive and quick to offer suggestions! Lots of choices sadly they ran out of steak for the steak salad but I choose the Roasted green Chile pasta and very happy with the suggestion and it was very good! Lots of flavor but needed a little salt - overall very happy! read more

Running through the airport to my flight and thought I would sit down for a quick bite to eat. The breakfast menu was small with only 5 items but they all looked good so I thought I would give it a go. My waitress sat me fast and obviously had too much coffee this morning but no big deal, she was nice. I opted for the Monday Quesadilla, apparently they decide what's inside every Monday. Mine was filled with Oaxaca and Jack cheese, short rib and egg topped with chipotle sour cream drizzle and fresh Pico de gallo. YUM! I scarfed it up so fast my waitress thought I dropped the plate. Airport food at Phoenix Sky Harbor has definitely been changing for the better and this was just another example of how a local restaurant can serve the same great food in an airport location. Next time I'll try the Chocolate Chip Pancakes! read more

I was there to pickup some smoking pipes, at Ford and Fifth, review coming soon. I finished my business, asked a local person for a recommendation, he told me about this place, a few blocks from where I was. Went there with a friend, and to my surprise, great food. When he first mentioned this place, I thought Cowboy Chow, not Ciao, so I was pleasantly surprised. I had a lunch portion of scallops over some risotto, brown, with an added twist on this. The scallops were very tasty, a bit firm, but still great, I also had a craft beer, housed in bourbon barrel, great. My friend had a turkey sandwich, but it had grilled red peppers, cucumbers, excellent, and the very thin homemade fries, great. The place has great ambience, I highly recommend you visit this place when your in the Scottsdale area. read more

It is a restaurant in a airport. Let's start there. You can't have too high of expectations. We ate here twice. Once on the way out and once on our way home. Basically, this was the closest sit down restaurant to our gates. We had my 82 year old father with us and walking around is not an option. Staff is friendly, if not trying to do a hard sale. They get where they are and try to get you in and out. Both times my husband ordered the breakfast enchiladas and loved them. So much so that my dad got them on the second visit. I got a Stetson Chopped salad the first visit based on the waiter's recommendation which was so so. I then got the quesadilla on return trip. It was better. My husband enjoyed their SleepyDog Tail Chaser IPA. Prices were not terrible for being an airport. Maybe a dollar more per entrée. I believe they have a location not in the airport in Phoenix as well. The way out the waiter was nice enough to let us chill for longer than we should without giving us attitude. We had about a four hour layover. Over all an ok place. I wish food options were healthier. However, nice to have a sit down option at all vs. typical fast food you usually can get in an airport. read more

The best airport restaurant by far. I travel all over the country for work several times a month and I am stuck in many airports. I discovered this place a year ago and now I try to route my trips so my layover will be in Phoenix so that I'm able to come here. I always sit at the bar and if you have the opportunity to have Doug as your bartender he will always take great care of you. The Stetson chop salad is my go to favorite. I get it with both chicken and avocado (Doug's recommendation actually), and I'm never disappointed. So amazing! They have a very interesting wine by the glass menu as well. Who knew you could be at an airport bar in Phoenix and get a Pinot Grigio from Slovenia! I highly recommend this place. read more

I went here because it was convenient and had decent reviews for an airport restaurant. I had the fried chicken sandwich and was very disappointed. The breading lacked flavor and the chicken was overcooked. It came with a small squirt of what seemed to be plain mayonnaise and no lettuce, tomato, or other veggies. The fries were a bit mushy and nondescript, but still better than the sandwich. Gave it two stars because my server seemed like a nice guy and the food came out fast. However, if you are in this area of the airport and simply must have a fried chicken sandwich, you are better off saving a few bucks and going to the McDonald's next door. read more

When we ordered our burgers, again he barely said two words and did not ask us how we wanted them cooked even though the menu says cook to order. When we got them they were very rare, see the picture, which we're okay with although we would have ordered them a little more done. My wife said no onions on hers, and of course there was onions on her berger. Later we were served by a waitress who was much more friendly and we realize was probably just not there yet when we sat down, so the initial waiter didn't really care what we thought since we weren't going to be his customers at the end. So sadly what could have been a very pleasant lunch was spoiled by the initial waiter, even though the food was good we may not be back.

We LOVED our visit to Diner 50 and this is now my go-to breakfast spot downtown. Everything was perfection. We loved the art inside and outside, music, and vibe. Our server was warm, enthusiastic, and had immaculate timing. We appreciated how playful and passionate she was. I swear she knew the name of every guest who walked through the door, and asked them thoughtful questions about their loved ones or travels. This is obviously a place that people return to and become regulars at. An excellent sign. What we were not expecting (and SO DELIGHTED WITH) was the cat rescue space through the adjoining wall. We are all cat-obsessed, so walking in and seeing a room full of absolute sweeties playing around added 100,000 points to the experience. The coffee? Epic. Served in a nearly soup bowl sized cup (hot) or gigantic mason jar (iced). Diner coffee can sometimes leave much to be desired but this coffee was soooo delicious and strong. The food? So awesome. I went with a classic breakfast plate - eggs, sausage, potatoes, blueberry pancakes. I added a biscuit because the menu said they were homemade and I had to try it. It was exceptional, I would go back just for the sausage and biscuit and coffee. My coworker got the huevos rancheros with red and green sauce and I was massively jealous. Everyone left over-caffeinated with bellies full of delicious food and hearts warm from being so well taken care of by our lovely server and getting to play with kitties. The prices are fair, the food and coffee are delicious and homemade, and the service is exceptional. I am someone who really values being involved with my community, so I feel great about spending my money somewhere that is clearly beloved by my neighbors and pours back into them. When it came out, the steak was smaller than I expected and pretty chewy. It also seemed much leaner than what I usually expect from a ribeye, with very little marbling. Because of that, it didn't have the tenderness or flavor I normally associate with that cut. I'd still recommend this place overall since my friends enjoyed their food and everything else was good. I'd just personally skip the steak next time and try something else.

Fast forward nine years to 1938, and Fred MacAlpine purchased it, renaming it for his namesake, and operating it as a full-service pharmacy and soda fountain until 1991. It was then purchased by a couple who still own it today and have kept it in as much of its original condition as possible, including the soda fountain, the counter, and the malt machine. When you park and walk to the front of the yellow building, you can't help but feel joy. The storefront windows, the antiques, all of it make you wonder just how far back in time you're going to travel. Once you've stepped foot inside and onto the checkered floor, you can't help but smile at the counter, all of the antiques from decades past, and the wait staff who wears 1950s uniforms. We slid into our wood booth with the tiny jukebox on the wall and immediately got to reviewing the extensive menu. Everything... and I mean EVERYTHING... looked good. Bonus: They have gluten-free bread! My husband chose the cheeseburger and I chose the turkey BLT (on gluten-free bread) - both were delicious! We then opted to share a mint chocolate chip milkshake that was created on the original 1940s machine - something that completed the experience. When we were done, we were fortunate enough to chat with Monica Heizenrader, co-owner of MacAlpine's wth her daughter. She is a very kind woman who is very passionate about keeping the history of this diner alive, even taking to selling antiques (in the other rooms of the building) to help support the upkeep. However, with rising costs and some family challenges, it's getting tough. She was proud to have kept this going as long as she and her family have and even mentioned some of the more notable people that have stepped into the diner over the decades, including Barry Goldwater (a regular), Joan Ganz Cooney (one of the creators of Sesame Street), Frank Lloyd Wright, Aunt Maud, Marshall Good, Wayne Newton (who was discovered by a talent scout there), and more! The fries were really good though--kind of like those classic corner-market style French fries. I wanted to share some feedback regarding my recent experience at this restaurant. Unfortunately, the service was extremely slow--probably the worst I've encountered at an airport. Our server was inattentive, uninterested in being at work and despite only ordering two drinks and chips with guacamole, it took an unusually long time to receive them. Given that we were at an airport, where time is critical, this was frustrating. Additionally, when I asked our waiter for a straw, I was abruptly told, "WE DON'T HAVE STRAWS!" in a tone so sharp that I genuinely couldn't tell if they were joking or being serious. It was an uncomfortable and unnecessary interaction that added to the overall poor experience. We couldn't get anyones attention to pay so to avoid further delays, I opted to pay online. Anticipating potential issues, I emailed myself a copy of the receipt. However, as we were next in line to board, our server approached us at the gate, insisting that we hadn't paid. I had to show him the mobile payment confirmation before he finally acknowledged the payment, which was both embarrassing and unnecessary. Do not go to this restaurant! Cowboy Ciao at Phoenix Sky Harbor was just an okay stop for a meal. The ambiance is exactly what you'd expect in an airport--noisy, packed, and busy, though the view of the tarmac is a nice touch if you're into plane watching. The food was hit or miss. The fries were delicious, easily the best part of the meal. The BLT was fine but pretty small, served on an English muffin, and didn't feel especially memorable for the price. For drinks, it's hard to mess up Jameson on ice with a glass of water, and that did the job. Service was the main letdown. The bartenders were semi-attentive, but not very friendly. I was there for over an hour and didn't see a single smile or welcoming gesture from any of the three bartenders. Overall, it works in a pinch, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. read more

Ended up with heck of a layover in phoenix and wandered around trying to find a place to grab a bite. After wandering and not wanting food court ended up in Cowboy Ciao. My waiter was Jack and he was friendly and helpful. The food came out quick and he was attentive to what I needed. The mac and cheese was amazing. Almost to die for and some good comfort food when stuck in a place you don't want to be. The drinks are good a bit pricey but nothing to not be expected at an airport. Nothing better then some comfort food and a friendly face who is helpful and attentive without being overbearing. I would go back again and again.
