Not to mention the modem breaks constantly affecting my internet and house phone regularly. tv remote was defective and they told me I have to pay for a replacement even though they charge me monthly to have the box and remote. This company is a joke. COX is a complete scam--they abuse customers in this area by taking advantage of the fact that their only competition seems to be AT&T because of provider limitations. I've lived in Laguna Beach, Aliso Viejo, and Laguna Niguel for many years--the only options have been COX and AT&T, with AT&T only being able to provide up to 50mbps speeds in these locations based on my address (I've lived in apartment complexes, not sure if this is different for homes). I've used AT&T in the past and the speed was my only complaint, but now that I've been with COX for a few years the speed is ok but everything else is atrocious. -Mysterious one time charges that make billing inconsistent and unpredictable. -Prices constantly being raised. -Installation fees when renewing even if you don't require someone to "install" something that is already in place. -$100 pro tech fees when something goes wrong (AT&T sends technicians for free). -More $100 pro tech fees even when the problem is COX's fault. When we initially installed, they needed to send someone out and he said the problem was with the line located out on the street but we were still charged $100 as if we were at fault for it being messed up?? -Rude employees at the physical stores who treat you like an idiot and don't listen to anything you're saying. -Employees are also zero help at resolving issues. If something goes wrong, they'll tell you the only thing they can do to fix it is if you upgrade to a more expensive plan. I also recently went to return some old equipment because we upgraded, and there was obvioisly going to be a long wait to see someone based on how busy they were and the sign in at the front. I caught an employee in between customers because I just wanted to ask if I could drop the equipment off and go, or if I needed to sign in and wait in case there was a process involved with the return. Instead of taking 10 seconds to properly explain anything or even just say "please sign in and wait for an appointment" which I would've been fine with since it would've confirmed that I wouldn't be wasting my time waiting around, we were basically shooed off with the employee saying "Only if you want a receipt. Up to you, up to you!" and shrugging as if we were taking a risk by leaving it with him. Why would this be a someone's response unless they couldn't be trusted to log a simple equipment return which has barcodes for equipment info and serial numbers that should line up with customer accounts? Sounded like he was admitting that they couldn't do their jobs right and were likely to screw it up, or "mess up" on purpose to charge us even more. COX and it's employees are garbage. Absolute trash. Outages literally every week late at night (I.e. 11pm-6am). This company dgaf besides getting people to pay for higher plans for "higher speeds." We went from 250 mbps to 500 mbps and saw no difference. Also if you do the 250 mbps there is a cap on how much data you can use before they switch you to slower speeds. Big money grab. Cox has THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE ! Again, its happened before- I have no tv because of no internet from Cox. - they can 't fix my problem over the phone after trying for half an hour through technical support. So they tell me I need a technician to come over the next day. So I choose my hours, 5-7:00 pm. -- then at about 6:15 they text me a message- the tech is on his way, be there very soon, reply YES or CANCEL this appointment. Since I've been waiting a couple hours, I text them back YES - then I go about my business of cleaning my house, doing dishes etc. - I pick up my phone at about 6:45 and it says YOUR APPT HAS BEEN CANCELLED. The bald dude with the tattoos is a prick. They missed up something on my bill (surprise surprise...) and I went into the store to clarify. This was a mistake but no one ever picks up the phone at this store, so I was forced to. As I soon as I mention that I want him to clarify the charges he begins to show a lot of attitude and even admits they made a mistake but that "its fine, just pay what it says at the bottom". I know the total at the bottom is fine dude but the calculations and numbers are all wrong, he knows that, I know that, but instead of trying to actual clarify, he seems annoyed and acts rude towards me. Every time I point something out on the bill, he just goes "Don't worry about it" or "I just told you what that was" while sighing under his breath. Mind you, I wasn't even taking up his time much, this entire interaction lasted 5 minutes and managed to ruin my image of Cox for a long time. I understand providing good customer service is something Cox actively strives NOT to do but this really takes it to another level. My mistake was being calm and collected the entire time and even saying "thank you" at the end even though that douche did nothing to help. I think the Cox Company has issues and having to renegotiate the bill every year is a pain in the butt, but today we had a super positive experience with an associate named Amir. He took his time with us, gave us our options and answered all of our questions. I know they have a hard job, everyone who goes in there is upset about their bill or failed equipment. We saw one lady yelling and calling another associate a stupid idiot because he couldn't help her fast enough, he handled the situation with tact! After coming back from a country who took away the internet from everyone for over a week in order to keep the rest of the world blocked from the chaos, tear gas, and bloodshed going on within, if you are aware of current events you will know which one I'm talking about, I was happy to come back to the US where internet is not scarce and at this point seemed like a luxury. After spending 18+ hours on a flight, I come back to find out the internet at the house is having issues . GRR! Jet lagged and in a haze I had to spend the next 4 hours on the phone only to be directed to the next COX store within my area. Yelp directions, sent me to a location that didn't exist. Finally, I checked on google maps and double checked the phone number to call to find out this location is in Laguna Niguel/Aliso Viejo next the the home depot shopping center, near Veggie Grill and Subway. Inside was clean, and after checking in and putting my name on a list, I patiently waited. While waiting for my name to be called, I watched as each customer ahead of me was treated, and how smoothly their transactions were going, and how fast it was going where each name was quickly getting scratched off the list and my name was coming up. Score! Being jet lagged, and half conscious, this is the last place I wanted to be. As easy as 1-2-3, my name was called, Identified the situation, and they were able to swap out my old modem for a newer version. I would recommend this location for the ease of getting my needs met. No one likes to deal with the cable company so I wasn't looking forward to going into the store to talk to Cox about my latest bill. Long story short, my one-year contract was up and my bill jumped from $130 to $160 a month. I went in and talked to Yvette who was super nice and she worked her magic and got my bill back down to $135 a month for essentially the same service but now my internet speed is doubled. The only reason I'm not giving them a 5-star review is that it would have been just as easy for them to adjust my bill without me having to go down and ask for it... Koodos to Manne for going above and beyond to resolve my issue. I was on the phone for 3 hrs, transferred to 8 different people with no resolution. Bottom line customer service deactivated our services on the incorrect move date. When speaking to the last customer rep they said to go to a store and pick up new devices all with major attitude and rudeness. When I arrived there was no items to be picked up or service ticket opened. Manne, went out of his way to understand my issue, look into it and resolve it in 10min!! Their online chat is trash. I have tried it 3 times now and not once got a resolution. Twice they just disconnected the chat when they couldn't solve the problem. The internet service has gone out twice in one week. We are seeing outages a lot more frequently. Last time they did a planned maintenance my internet was out for over 24 hrs. Just called in the Laguna Niguel store (Teresa & Tim Potter) , whom have been cox cable customers in Cali & Las Vegas for years. Are moving from Cali, to Vegas permanently & called the store to ask if they can drop off the contour & equipment at the Vegas store since this laguna office is closed Sunday & Monday, they were told ABSOLUTELY NOT- by the female whom answered the phone for that cox laguna office. So when asked if the can ship the equipment from vegas to their store she had to send them to tech support to answer that claiming "I HAVE NO CLUE". ??? Huh?? Can't answer a simple question that obviously doesn't require a college degree.. Anyway, luckily she did. The tech support told us, absolutely we can return the cox cable equipment to the Vegas store & THEY will ship it to the Laguna Niguel store. I called cox on Saturday because i had some questions regarding our plan which was answered by the representative helping me. He mentioned about a promo they have for us so I decided to stop by the store just so I could have all my questions answered before upgrading our plan. I walk in store and checked in, was called by a staff member if I recall correctly named Ernesto. Told him about the deal and he went above and beyond and gave us a better deal with a few tips once we upgrade. He was very professional and helpful. The whole thing was just straight to the point. Either shady business practices or really poor training. I ordered services through this store last November and was told one thing about the package, and then when the tech came out, they said I was misquoted the price and that I would be billed at a higher rate. Then yesterday I went into the store again to add additional services and asked if there would be a installation cost or extra equipment - I was told no to both. I came to discover this evening that this was wrong information when I called tech support and that there was additional equipment and installation costs. To top it off, the sales rep from yesterday already added the service to my bill so now I am paying for services I do not receive, nor did he ever schedule a tech to come out. When speaking to tech support it was also discovered that when I signed up for services in November, the sales rep created my PIN and a Security Question for my without my knowledge. As a result I was instructed to go online and edit these items prior to tech support even willing to discuss the account with me. This seems like very questionable business practice. read more

About two months ago I finally did it. I unplugged all of my Cox equipment took it down to the Cox store on Crown Valley and said I was done and wanted everything disconnected. Spoke to a rep there, unfortunately I forgot his name, but he talked me off the edge. He told me to try their new Contour system which would give me better reception and I would like it better. If I could give zero stars I would I would've been with Cox my entire life they are the biggest rip off around. They have a monopoly on TV and Internet especially Internet now watch out for your equipment they take it back and then they claim that you didn't bring it back. Then they send you to collections a couple days later they don't even give you a chance to fight it. They are rude on the phone and I was paying $250 a month for TV and now I'm only paying 50. i guess they Think they can do anything they want because they have a monopoly where I live.
