Cozy Congee is the perfect name for this spot because it is a cozy spot serving up some very cozy congee dishes. This spot is located in the Belmont area where street parking will be your best bet. Inside, they have a modern and nice setup with about 6-7 tables for seating. For their menu, they have a unique selection of congee concoctions to choose from. Wifey and I stopped by for breakfast and got the Thai Pork Jok with Chinese Donuts on the side. The congee tasted so comforting and the Chinese donuts are a must! This is my 2nd time coming here. The first time I went I was able to sit down and enjoy my congee. The 2nd time I came here was on Thursday February 12, 2025. Only one worker was around I felt that he didn't know what he was doing because I was just watching him the whole time making my food while I wait. I order the Thai congee to go with the Chinese donut. When I got in my car I was disappointed in my Chinese donut. I did not even get a FULL SIZE Chinese donut! I literally got 4 pieces. Wtf is this? Love this concept!! Cute and cozy spot. Just happened to be walking by with friends and we had to stop in. The owner and all the workers were kind and helpful. Congee is very comforting and more of an at home dish for me. I loved being able to see a bit of an elevated version. The staff really took their time to plate and put the toppings on so delicately. One of my favorite spots to eat in Portland because it's just comfort in a bowl. Whether it's a scorching 90 degree afternoon or a dreary winter day, you'll find me at Cozy Congee. Chef Jihae did such an amazing job crafting each bowl to perfection. The flavors and textures are all on point. There is a good array of options for toppings and types of congee. The only reason I am giving a 4 is because I don't think the value quite got there for me. While visiting Portland our daughter a local culinary connoisseur kept recommending we try this fun place. The staff are very friendly and helpful. We got to meet the owner Jaylah not sure how to spell her name, she is very personable and gracious. She suggested I taste test the Century Duck egg before ordering as it can be an acquired taste. I thought it was delicious so I ordered the pork congee with the Century Egg. My daughter ordered Congee with pork strands and we also put in an order for a Chinese doughnut and Vitamilk. She demonstrated how the donut is best eaten by dipping it in the milk. Very tasty and fun. My pork Congee was beautifully presented as seen in the photo. I thoroughly enjoyed the Century Duck Egg and it paired nicely with the tender pork pieces I discovered like a treasure hunt in my Congee. Having never eaten Congee before I found it to be very comforting, and it provided for a nice warm flavorful dish on a cold day. My daughter ordered what she always does, Congee with pork strands and Chinese donut which she yummed her way to the bottom of the bowl. My husband ordered Congee with pork meatballs which he enjoyed greatly. I give this unique eatery five stars for service, a cool vibe, excellent staff and overall cleanliness, and I especially like how the food is prepared fresh and to order. Congee is the ultimate comfort food for me since it is so healthy, satisfying, nourishing and can be thought of as Chinese medicine. Cozy Congee is unlike any other place that I've been to that serves congee. It's not the typical Chinese joint, or a hole in the wall joint that primarily caters to an all asian/Chinese clientele, so my expectations were a bit tempered despite the hype and good reviews from friends and Yelpers alike. The space while small, was very clean, organized, well thought out, and full of windows that provided a ton of natural light. I was really impressed that one of the staff (perhaps owner?) had recognized me from a previous visit and was very warm and inviting and made me feel like dining at a relative or friend's house. Other places I've been to that serve congee generally have dozens of topping variations. Cozy Congee breaks from the norm and instead offers just 3 Chinese variations and a Thai style congee. The Chinese toppings were the typical classic tried and true options of pork floss, velveted meat slices, century egg, and Chinese Donut. I opted for the Thai Pork Jook since that was more of a novelty for me. The congee was served at the perfect temperature for me where I didn't have to cool it down by blowing in between spoonfuls. There was a perfect amount of garlic bits and ginger and white pepper that was assertive yet not overpowering. The Chinese donut was a bit below average relative to others I've had, but I still recommend getting it, since you can't really have congee without it. Overall I like Cozy Congee. It's not the best congee I've had, but the novelty of the Thai jook definitely scratches an itch for me that will keep me coming back. read more
