So this is a long standing community cafe that's been feeding folks for over 40 years. It's pretty popular and always draw a crowd. Every time I come here, there's always a full dining area. They're known for the gumbo, salads, po boys and down ole Southern flares on Cajun meals. Service is great, friendly and helpful. I'm glad I found this hidden gem but you can tell it's a locals spot because everyone knows everyone.

Trout almondine with bragant potatoes - the Tuesday lunch special -- fantastic
    Paul W.

Went there for lunch for the first time with a friend. I tried their trout almandine with brabant potatoes for lunch - their special on Tuesdays. Wow. It was delicious! Well worth every calorie and cent! The salad was good, but nothing special. We ordered at the counter, and service was fairly quick. Not a dive but not upscale, just a little family place. Plenty of parking. Highly recommended and I hope to come back before too long.

    Good old Spaghetti & Meatballs

So I ran across this local gem and how lucky was I. Good food and nice people at reasonable prices. Now that's tough to beat. My first visit I was lucky enough to meet both of the owners. How nice was that? I had the fried catfish and shrimp platter and the Friday seafood gumbo. The platter was very good but the gumbo was exceptional. I was craving spaghetti & meatballs for some reason. Maybe it was the 2 week food binge I had been on after not being in N.O. for 44 years. So I remembered seeing on this menu. What I got was a steaming plate of nice hot noodles 2 huge meatballs in a very nice sauce. It couldn't have been better. I was so surprised how you enjoyed the meatballs I stopped by a couple of days later and got a meatball po boy. Sorry, no picture. I ate it to fast. I only wish I was a local.

Great meal! Another bookmark checked off!…read more I stopped in for a quick solo lunch while in NOLA. It was pretty busy for a weekday lunch and it seemed the bartender was the only one serving the restaurant full of folks. I posted up at the bar thinking it would be my fastest option. He was damn efficient I have to say. He got me taken care of and in and out in no time. He even took time to answer some of my questions about the menu. It's your typical New Orleans place on the inside. Lots of random art, some awards for Ron, and a bunch of signed dollar bills pasted on the wall. I got the Yumbo Mumbo Gumbo, that's the Gumbo with fried shrimp added. Holy hell it was good! I realize that blasphemous, and kind of an oxymoron as well. I don't care, it was fucking fantastic!!! I cannot wait to come back here again! It will be a regular stop from here on out when I am down in the land before time. Come and get you some! If you don't like it, get out of the city now, you don't deserve to be here anyway. '26 - 93

The environment reminds me a dive bar by the water, not fine dining. Pia served us promptly with our drinks, gave her suggestions on the menu pointing out her favorites, and took our appetizer order. We started with a dozen of the chargrilled oysters. They were served with a few pieces of baguette bread and lemon. It took a little while for them to come out, but when they hit the table, they were the garlicky, buttery goodness I was anticipating. For entrees we had the bowl of gumbo and plate of red beans and rice with the grilled sausage. All the staples of the NO. The food was really good and left us satisfied. I would definitely come back to try the boom boom shrimp, gator bites and boudin egg rolls !

One restaurant that locals constantly recommended to me was Drago's Seafood in Metairie, and now I completely understand why. I ordered the charbroiled oysters along with the crawfish platter that came with crawfish étouffée, crawfish mac and cheese, and fried crawfish. Every single thing on the table was incredible. The charbroiled oysters absolutely lived up to the hype rich, buttery, smoky, and packed with flavor. The crawfish platter was just as impressive and gave me a chance to try multiple Louisiana dishes all in one meal. What really stood out to me beyond the food was the service. The staff was extremely friendly, welcoming, and patient with questions from someone who isn't from Louisiana and still learning the local food scene. You can tell they take pride in both the restaurant and the hospitality. The only downside is parking can get a little complicated because the place fills up fast, which honestly says a lot about how popular it is. Just plan ahead or expect a short wait finding a spot. Overall, this is one of those restaurants that feels genuinely loved by locals and absolutely worth visiting if you're traveling through the New Orleans area.

My bartender, Darryl, took fantastic care of me. Vibes in this place are very warm and cozy, I sat at the bar to the right of the entrance as you walk in. I had a half dozen char grilled oysters and a cup of seafood gumbo. I see why the oysters are so popular, they are a hit. Buttery and garlicky, the crusty bread they serve with them is a great compliment to soak up the sauce. I had originally intended on getting the chicken and andouille gumbo but Darryl steered me away from it, he said it was very salty. I trusted his word and went with the seafood gumbo instead and was very pleased with it. The flavors were fantastic, but I am gonna ding it ever so slightly as I think $8.99 is kind of an obscene price for that serving size, but at least it was good. Overall I'm very satisfied with my lunch and the service, I think if you like seafood and you're in their area, you should eat here. Edit - $9 for a pint is a little over the top too, imo. My "light lunch" was $42 before the tip.
