I celebrated my birthday this past Thursday while visiting family in Bakersfield, and choosing Cracker Barrel was seriously the BEST decision. Such a fun and memorable experience from start to finish! My first visit was just with my mom and youngest sister, we instantly felt how warm and welcoming the atmosphere was. Plus, their gift shop is SO cute. It already had me excited before we even sat down! I ordered the Big Easy steak and shrimp combo with mac & cheese and mashed potatoes with brown gravy, and WOW... everything was chef's kiss. The steak was juicy, the creole shrimp were super flavorful, and those complimentary biscuits? Warm, fluffy, and absolutely perfect with butter and jelly. I also got the strawberry peach lemonade, and as a strawberry lemonade lover, I have to say this is easily one of the BEST I've had. So refreshing and packed with flavor! We loved it so much that we had to come back again this time with my more family (my mom, dad, and two younger sisters). On this visit, I went for the crispy homestyle chicken (with mac & cheese and mashed potatoes again), and it did NOT disappoint. The chicken was crispy, hot, fresh, and full of flavor. While I let it cool, I tried the country fried pickles with ranch (my mom's recommendation), and OMG... I'm still thinking about them. Crunchy, tangy, perfectly seasoned--I honestly could've eaten a whole order by myself! Before leaving, I took my time browsing the gift shop again because it's honestly such a fun part of the experience. They have the cutest, most nostalgic finds, and I couldn't leave without grabbing an adorable set of salt and pepper shakers! Across both visits, everything was consistently amazing, and the service deserves a shoutout too because all the worker I encountered were extremely friendly, attentive, and our food came out much faster than expected both times. I officially fell in LOVE with Cracker Barrel after this trip. I already can't wait to come back and bring my boyfriend next time (sadly there aren't any near where I live smh). I'll definitely be dreaming about those fried pickles, and I'm so excited to try their breakfast next time because all-day breakfast is always a win! read more

What can I say that hasn't already been said in other reviews? I really wanted to like Cracker Barrel, but it just didn't hit for me. The food was pretty meh...kind of greasy and nothing really stood out. Service was also below par, not terrible but definitely not great either. Even the little store inside (which is actually pretty cool to walk through) lost some of its charm because the checkout experience wasn't welcoming at all. The service, the food, the coffee and the company were top notch. The waiters are so nice, helpful and so friendly and fun. We decided to meet up again in there next time. If you must know my friend from LA and me meet up in Bakersfield. We meet halfway. She is so nice to do that. And we have had great time. We really enjoyed our time there talking about everything and anything. The waitress even join us for a little bit on our conversation. I thought it was so nice and fun. So I got there first and order a coffee. It tasted very good freshly brewed. I love freshly brewed coffee. The. My friend got there and we order the breakfast. She ordered the Biscuits and Gravy plate with eggs, hash brown and the bacon. I had the Garden scrambled eggs I also got a dice of biscuits beignets. I opted out on the powered sugar. I used them as bread for my food. They were crunchy but next time I will ask them to cook them a little bit longer for my taste. The ambiance it's very nice and welcoming. The music in the background was nice. Highly recommend. See you guys next time. They also have a souvenir Gift shop and they have all kinds of great things to buy. So many it will be hard for me to mention everything. But they do have sweets, earrings, jewelry, I wanted to buy everything. They also go by the season. They had everything up for easter. Service is great, fast and friendly! I was pleasantly surprised by the deliciousness of the pancakes. The plates look a little sad in regard to the bacon and eggs. But can't complain it was a decent meal and a decent price. I have this habit of judging a breakfast place based on their coffee and it's very rare that I'm wrong. This time, I was wrong. We ordered the grandma sampler - The pancakes were fluffy, the eggs cooked as ordered, and the hash brown casserole has to be one of the best sides I've ever had! The portions are huge, this alone fed 2 people. But again, the coffee was a let down, just wasn't strong enough. And the sausage patty was super dry and tough, didn't care for that. Our server was attentive and personable, but not overbearing and the restaurant itself was very homey. The shopping g part of the store was not what I expected, but it had a nice variety. I love the atmosphere! It was so bright and open. I found it entertaining to look at the score, but not overwhelming. Our server Scarlett was helpful and friendly. The fried pickles weren't as good as I would have liked, because the batter was too thick, but my 11 thought they were great! They were brought out quickly. The dinner was as well. We all liked the biscuits, nice and buttery. The batter on the okra was much lighter than the pickles and much better! My burger patty really needed some seasoning as did the grits and fries. Can I just say how cute their store front is? The trinkets and other items they sell are super duper cute I want to buy them all! The interior design of the restaurant is very intentional, specific and interesting. Love the vibe! Service is amazing. Servers are mostly friendly, welcoming and attentive. The place is also pretty organized and clean. We've been here 2-3 times already and loved every experience we've had so far. On to the food, we got a couple things: Chicken on the side - their chicken's portion size was huge. The chicken was delicious, crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. We always stop here on our way to Arizona. The service is quick and friendly. The Country Store is always a hoot- trip down memory lane. Food is quick and hot, and a good deal for a pit stop along a roadtrip. Hubs usually gets the Grandma's Sampler with Pancakes. The pancakes are always AH-mazing. The edges are just slightly crispy and their butter and syrup are fantastic. My go-to is the Egg Sandwich. Simple and easy on a traveling tummy. As soon as you walk in, you are greeted by their front store with lots of vintage items and candies, it just gives a certain feeling of nostalgia. I saw an advertisement on TV about a sandwich that had bacon & eggs and hashbrowns on it on a brioche bun and that sounded so good I called on an order for it. I was so hungry. I'm sitting in my car out front eating it. It tastes good, although it didn't have salt & pepper on it, which you know, fried eggs need. So it was bland, but good. The brioche bun is very soft and everywhere else I get that it's been really hard and it hurts bite into it. It's very dry so I propose they put mayonnaise on it or butter or something on that bun, or at least include that and little packets. The bacon, like everywhere else (except Black Bear Diner) is of course paper thin and it has hardly any taste although there's a bacon flavor. Buy the egg is really good, and the hashbrowns are yummy. But the spectacular thing that will keep me coming back is their green beans! They seem simple, but they have such a great taste it was a very large side I got to choose that comes as a as a side with the sandwich. To my surprise, there was also a very thick piece of hamburger on there, which I didn't know was going to be there. But that was too much food so I took it out and it's in the refrigerator and I'm gonna make a hamburger sandwich with it tomorrow so I haven't tasted that yet. The young lady who answered the phone needs to have a different job. Her voice was quiet and she couldn't answer any questions I asked and kept putting me on hold. First of all, I didn't know the name of the sandwich because I had just seen it on TV and I didn't catch the name of it. So I described it and asked her what it was and she had no idea and she kept me on hold for a long time and then she came back and told me what it was. So I told her I wanted to order it, but she asked me what side I wanted and I told her I asked her what size that she had and she said green beans and something else and something else. And I asked her if I couldn't get hashbrowns on the side and she said no, but I could get a hash brown casserole. So I said what's that? And she said it's hashbrowns with a lot of cheese in it. OK well I said I don't really like cheese, so I don't want that. Please take note of that comment because I'm going to tell you what happened... when the sandwich came, the hashbrowns on it were the "cheesy" hash browns. She did not know that, and I understand, everyone can know everything on the menu, but if I had had some allergy to cheese, I'd be in trouble right now. I ate it anyway, and luckily it was fine, because the cheese was so mild I could barely even taste it. I took a bunch of pictures and a video and I was commenting through the whole thing so I'm gonna include those there. Their little store is adorable and it has all kinds of things that I absolutely loved, including "Hot Tamales" red cinnamon candies, which I love, but are very hard to find, and also red vines, red licorice which you don't see everywhere either. So I bought one of each of those. I had never been in a Cracker Barrel restaurant in my life when I just moved back to Bakersfield after five years that Cracker Barrel opened since I was gone. They have beautiful clothes and beautiful jewelry and a great many choices of jewelry that are really really nice for a decent price. Everything else is a little pricey, but kind of what you're expecting a store like that. A lot of fun toys and games and all kinds of gourmet foods in bottles and cans and jars. For the sandwich that came with the green beans side and the two bags of candy, my cost was $28. Richest price for a sandwich and some green beans, but it was so good and it looks like there's other things on the menu that I would like to try so I will probably be back. One of the other fun things there was all of the rocking chairs they have all across the front. They have many different types @&onesI made out of different things and they were beautiful and. .. they were all for sale also and they are very expensive, FYI. And I'm saying that because I have a rocking chair that I bought at the yard sale for $25 so who am I to judge what is a good price for a rocking chair? i'm trying to post the pictures I took, but my phone is giving me grief. We arrived Sunday, January 26, 2025, at about 1:30-45pm. This review does not reflect our server whatsoever. He was a super nice tall slim young gentleman and I feel horrible I don't remember his name. He had very intricate braids in his hair and he was the only positive thing I can say. As soon as we entered the building, we strolled through the gift shop for a few minutes, then we went to the hostess stand and asked for a table. There were two female employees, both had dark hair and one was wearing a pink zip up hoodie. Boy did she ever have a mouth on her. She was complaining and cursing about her shift and in front of the whole line of people said "they f*cking gave my shift to f*cking (whoever)" and we (party of 4) all stopped and dropped our jaws and looked at each other trying to figure out if what just happened was really happening. The other woman that was up there barely acknowledged us and then we were escorted to the dining room. The restaurant and gift shop and bathrooms were all clean, and our very nice waiter/server came to take our drink orders. He brought them promptly and then took our food orders. I ordered the hash brown casserole shepherds pie. This was my very first time in a Cracker Barrel and have heard over and over again how I "have to have the hash brown casserole! It's the best" and I wanted to try other things as well so that dish seemed the best choice. My husband ordered the chicken fried steak with white gravy, mashed potatoes and a cup of the chicken and dumpling soup. When our food was delivered, the hash brown casserole topping on my shepherds pie was so SO burnt, I couldn't believe it. It seemed like they were trying to make toffee/brittle/jerky with it. I peeled the top off and saw raw shreds of potato under it. Then I just decided to eat around it. I'm not sure if this was normal, but there was a dollop of mashed potato goop on the bottom but it was more like raw dough. The texture of it was so gross I couldn't even eat it. The sour cream on top had curdled and now I feel like it was bad. My husbands potatoes were like paste, the soup was like unseasoned yellow gelatin and he was only able to get down about 1/2 of his chicken fried steak. I tried a bite of his CFS and couldn't figure out what the weirdness of it I tasted was. Then I tried it again and I couldn't even pretend it was good. It's like it was frozen, cooked, put back in the fridge, and cooked again. The breading didn't have any chance of staying affixed to the steak. And I'm aware that this restaurant uses frozen items and nothing is made from scratch but I figured it would have at least been better quality.
