I haven't been to any other Cracker Barrel locations in the past so this is my first-ever Cracker Barrel experience. As soon as you walk in, you are greeted by their front store with lots of vintage items and candies, it just gives a certain feeling of nostalgia. Place was not packed at all when we came in on a Sunday afternoon. We were immediately seated and I ordered shrimp n' grits skillet. Fitst time having grits too. I enjoyed the dish, loved all the flavors and the parmesan bread that came with it. Companion had the chicken pot pie and it was just ultimate comfort food. Service was not too bad either. The service today was really bad. 1/2 of our 6 orders were incomplete or wrong. Our server served from one end of the table so that we needed to pass down the hot plates. We arrived Sunday, January 26, 2025, at about 1:30-45pm. This review does not reflect our server whatsoever. He was a super nice tall slim young gentleman and I feel horrible I don't remember his name. He had very intricate braids in his hair and he was the only positive thing I can say. As soon as we entered the building, we strolled through the gift shop for a few minutes, then we went to the hostess stand and asked for a table. There were two female employees, both had dark hair and one was wearing a pink zip up hoodie. Boy did she ever have a mouth on her. She was complaining and cursing about her shift and in front of the whole line of people said "they f*cking gave my shift to f*cking (whoever)" and we (party of 4) all stopped and dropped our jaws and looked at each other trying to figure out if what just happened was really happening. The other woman that was up there barely acknowledged us and then we were escorted to the dining room. The restaurant and gift shop and bathrooms were all clean, and our very nice waiter/server came to take our drink orders. He brought them promptly and then took our food orders. I ordered the hash brown casserole shepherds pie. This was my very first time in a Cracker Barrel and have heard over and over again how I "have to have the hash brown casserole! It's the best" and I wanted to try other things as well so that dish seemed the best choice. My husband ordered the chicken fried steak with white gravy, mashed potatoes and a cup of the chicken and dumpling soup. When our food was delivered, the hash brown casserole topping on my shepherds pie was so SO burnt, I couldn't believe it. It seemed like they were trying to make toffee/brittle/jerky with it. I peeled the top off and saw raw shreds of potato under it. Then I just decided to eat around it. I'm not sure if this was normal, but there was a dollop of mashed potato goop on the bottom but it was more like raw dough. The texture of it was so gross I couldn't even eat it. The sour cream on top had curdled and now I feel like it was bad. My husbands potatoes were like paste, the soup was like unseasoned yellow gelatin and he was only able to get down about 1/2 of his chicken fried steak. I tried a bite of his CFS and couldn't figure out what the weirdness of it I tasted was. Then I tried it again and I couldn't even pretend it was good. It's like it was frozen, cooked, put back in the fridge, and cooked again. The breading didn't have any chance of staying affixed to the steak. And I'm aware that this restaurant uses frozen items and nothing is made from scratch but I figured it would have at least been better quality. I saw an advertisement on TV about a sandwich that had bacon & eggs and hashbrowns on it on a brioche bun and that sounded so good I called on an order for it. I was so hungry. I'm sitting in my car out front eating it. It tastes good, although it didn't have salt & pepper on it, which you know, fried eggs need. So it was bland, but good. The brioche bun is very soft and everywhere else I get that it's been really hard and it hurts bite into it. It's very dry so I propose they put mayonnaise on it or butter or something on that bun, or at least include that and little packets. The bacon, like everywhere else (except Black Bear Diner) is of course paper thin and it has hardly any taste although there's a bacon flavor. Buy the egg is really good, and the hashbrowns are yummy. But the spectacular thing that will keep me coming back is their green beans! They seem simple, but they have such a great taste it was a very large side I got to choose that comes as a as a side with the sandwich. To my surprise, there was also a very thick piece of hamburger on there, which I didn't know was going to be there. But that was too much food so I took it out and it's in the refrigerator and I'm gonna make a hamburger sandwich with it tomorrow so I haven't tasted that yet. The young lady who answered the phone needs to have a different job. Her voice was quiet and she couldn't answer any questions I asked and kept putting me on hold. First of all, I didn't know the name of the sandwich because I had just seen it on TV and I didn't catch the name of it. So I described it and asked her what it was and she had no idea and she kept me on hold for a long time and then she came back and told me what it was. So I told her I wanted to order it, but she asked me what side I wanted and I told her I asked her what size that she had and she said green beans and something else and something else. And I asked her if I couldn't get hashbrowns on the side and she said no, but I could get a hash brown casserole. So I said what's that? And she said it's hashbrowns with a lot of cheese in it. OK well I said I don't really like cheese, so I don't want that. Please take note of that comment because I'm going to tell you what happened... when the sandwich came, the hashbrowns on it were the "cheesy" hash browns. She did not know that, and I understand, everyone can know everything on the menu, but if I had had some allergy to cheese, I'd be in trouble right now. I ate it anyway, and luckily it was fine, because the cheese was so mild I could barely even taste it. I took a bunch of pictures and a video and I was commenting through the whole thing so I'm gonna include those there. Their little store is adorable and it has all kinds of things that I absolutely loved, including "Hot Tamales" red cinnamon candies, which I love, but are very hard to find, and also red vines, red licorice which you don't see everywhere either. So I bought one of each of those. I had never been in a Cracker Barrel restaurant in my life when I just moved back to Bakersfield after five years that Cracker Barrel opened since I was gone. They have beautiful clothes and beautiful jewelry and a great many choices of jewelry that are really really nice for a decent price. Everything else is a little pricey, but kind of what you're expecting a store like that. A lot of fun toys and games and all kinds of gourmet foods in bottles and cans and jars. For the sandwich that came with the green beans side and the two bags of candy, my cost was $28. Richest price for a sandwich and some green beans, but it was so good and it looks like there's other things on the menu that I would like to try so I will probably be back. One of the other fun things there was all of the rocking chairs they have all across the front. They have many different types @&onesI made out of different things and they were beautiful and. .. they were all for sale also and they are very expensive, FYI. And I'm saying that because I have a rocking chair that I bought at the yard sale for $25 so who am I to judge what is a good price for a rocking chair? i'm trying to post the pictures I took, but my phone is giving me grief. Came here for my mom's birthday lunch, so we ordered a lot of food! It was my parents first time, so it took a while to order, but our server Chris, was really patient. I wanted to try the Broccoli Cheese Casserole, which was advertised for this season, but they were out of it. I was a bit bummed since I was looking forward to it. Not sure if they "ran out" for the day, but to give you an idea of the time of day of this visit, it was lunchtime on a Sunday in January. To put things in perspective, it was not too busy. The service was good, food was decent, and the ambiance was homey. I think what would've made the visit better or even stellar would be to include dipping sides with the chicken or fries, as they seemed a bit dry. Came here early Sunday so no wait. It's very conveniently located off the freeway so it was the perfect stop before we headed back to LA. I ordered the steak and egg hash brown casserole and wow! It's so flavorful and delicious! Pancakes were fluffy and had a sweet crispy layer on top! Biscuits and gravy was good but gravy needed more pepper and flavor. My only gripe is the menu calls for thick bacon and it was super thin and flavorless. Service was fast and friendly and I like the peg game to pass time before the meal comes. From the moment we sat down, he delivered the kind of service you rarely find -- attentive, thoughtful, and genuinely caring. Armand anticipated our needs before we even voiced them. He brought extra napkins, condiments, and drink refills without us ever having to ask. I gave 3 stars because I've had good food there and I love the gift shop. However, they have the worst salads I've ever had, so I'll avoid those in the future. The last one I had - the house salad - was clumps of what appeared to be almost the core of iceberg lettuce. I pulled apart some of the leaves so I could eat them. It had one crouton, and no cheese. Hard clumps and tasteless. I told the waitress about it and she said she didn't make it. The baked potato wasn't very warm. The beans were soggy. Breakfast is good here but dinner is hit and miss. The waitress was unfriendly but other waitresses have been okay. I should have said take the salad back. When asked about how the dinner was I said it was hardly edible so they subtracted the price of the tea. In the future I'll probably just go for breakfast and browse the gift shop. read more

Stopped at this Cracker Barrel as we were traveling from NorCal to SoCal. I've been to dozens of different locations in various states. Well, I'll have to say that the Bakersfield store on California Ave. was superior. The service was great (that's the usual), but the chicken and dumplings were hands-down the best I've ever had, large dumplings, just the right amount of fresh gravy, and tender chunks of chicken. Finally got a chance to stop by last weekend and give this place a try. The staff was a bit slow and not super welcoming but they did get us seated fairly quickly. The biscuit benny was really good, I enjoyed that and it's something I'd definitely come back for. The food came out pretty quick and everything was hot. My dad really enjoyed his pancakes as well and liked the hot syrup bottle they give you with it. My wife didn't love the grits, I tried them and they were definitely overcooked.
