First time here! Walking in this place is a treat. The gift shop is a lot of fun. You'll definitely find something in there that you must have. Driving by, I've always noticed the porch chairs lined up out front. I thought they were for people waiting to be seated or for a whole row of grandpas sippin sweet tea. Walking up, I see they're all for sale as part of the gift shop. Good to know. The ambiance of the place is home-y and cozy- like a grandparents home. There are fun things to look at on the walls around the whole restaurant. The menu matches the surroundings. Things you would expect to eat on a Sunday morning breakfast in a good ol American grandmas kitchen or for Sunday family dinner. Norman Rockwell food. I ordered the fried turkey special with Mac and cheese and hash brown casserole. The turkey was delicious. The Mac and cheese got cold quickly and I didn't like it once it wasn't steaming, piping hot. My best friend makes better hash brown casserole. For real, I could live off of hers. Cracker Barrel couldn't hold a flame to it, but I didn't hate it. Someone at the table next to me ordered the fried catfish & that looked delish. Service was lovely and friendly. Service was terrible. My waitress had 3 tables and I went the whole meal with empty beverage glass. They give you 3 large dry pancakes and you have to ask for syrup. Then they give you a tiny little bottle. I had to ask another waitress staff for another bottle and when my waitress brought it I had to point out my empty glass. It seems that the owner of this franchise doesn't read these reviews thus this would only be helpful for decision making but will not improve the way food is prepared as there is no one to take accountability. The quality of food was so poor that it was concerning. Things were burnt, others from cans, cups were unwashed, and the cleanliness was an overall issue throughout. Employee was nice and understanding when we returned the meal however it did not help this disappointing experience. She even mentioned how we probably didn't like the food because its an "acquired taste". Horrible food is not a taste anyone wants to acquire. To exacerbate the issue, this meal was way too expensive for the quality of the food. I do not recommend this joint. First time trying Cracker Barrel. Decor is awesome. I love the old school sodas and candies for sale. Food was very good. Ordered the Grandma French toast samplers. French toast was flavorful, and the syrup was amazing. The meats were delicious. I also enjoyed the peach tea. Service was terrible. It took over ten minutes to get refills. We had to go to the beverage center and ask other servers to help,however, they too were ineffective. Finally, a busboy brought us more drinks. The service at this location recently has been abysmal. No issues with the food or the atmosphere but the servers are inattentive; forgetful; and down right rude. We have been stopping by at least twice a month for the last 3 months so we have had a variety of servers. To this point all have been female. They all just look unhappy and I would think that is what contributes to their attitudes. Today we put our order in and I guess they were rationing the biscuits. There were 3 adults in our party and the server initially brought out four with our meal. My wife and I each had one and our son had two. My wife very politely asked if we could get another basket. We were assured more would be out...they never came. Our son ordered the chicken tenders meal which comes with three (3) sauces. Our server only brought out one. It's as if they are paying for these items. Our son asked for his other two sauces and they never came. Needless to say I DID NOT leave a tip. The lady today was abysmal. Once we were in the gift shop, I asked to speak to a manager. I asked him if the servers have been instructed to ration the biscuits. He assured me they have not. I told him that our servers the last two times (I provided names so he could address) have been horrible and that things needed to change. Lots could improve but the good news is, the flavor is still there. Great food BUT, whoa! The portion size is super small! I haven't checked, but I'm pretty certain the prices haven't dropped..... I ordered Grandma's Sampler or something like that. It came with two pancakes which were delicious and the normal size. It came with a slice of ham which was great and I can't say it was any smaller but I got 1/2 of a piece of bacon!! My sausage patty was not large and I did a double take when I saw the size of the side of hash brown casserole. No toast. No biscuit. Probably about $25 bucks. Delicious once again but bro.... Grew up on Cracker Barrel back in the Midwest and east coast, so had very high expectations. Parking lot pretty packed this am. Checked in with the hostess and looked around the gift shoppe while we waited for our name to be called. Thought it was a little weird they were calling first and last names for multiple customers. Heard of first names and if multiple people have the same name than the last initial. Different. The gift shoppe has so many gadgets and gizmos and nostalgia to look at . Loved smelling the aroma of the candles and checking out the candy. I could of got lost in this shoppe for about an hour. Waited maybe about ten minutes before we were called for our table. Not bad , especially for a Saturday am. Server was nice and friendly ; however pretty busy. No drink refills; which kinda was disappointing. Pretty thirsty as we're eating our meals. Waitress said she would come back with a different hot sauce that was in the back ; however never did bring it. Didn't want our food cold , so just used what was on the table. Ordered the grandmas sampler for breakfast .... Either French toast or pancakes; eggs; and a combination of breakfast meats with one side. Went with the French toast with fresh strawberries ( extra $1.49); the hash brown casserole with scrambled eggs. I thought the strawberries would have more of a strawberry topping for them; however the French toast was delicious with the warm individual syrup. Love that you get your own private individual new little bottle of warm syrup to use. The ham was a little dry ; but edible . Hash brown casserole was good; tasty and cheesy. For many years I have heard from a handful of people who recommended Cracker Barrell. Up until it's arrival in Bakersfield I've only seen it in the wild once in Southern California. My mother was born and raised in the south, I live for this comfort food. The excitement has been built up tremendously but we waited a bit for the new appeal to wear off from the Bakersfield crowds. I think their store is nice, some Things over priced but in the economy today what isn't. There were a few items I debated on ordering but the fried chicken couldn't be ignored. I'm a sucker for fried chicken and am always looking for new places for chicken. Along with the fried chicken I ordered Dumplins and a loaded baked potato. The Dumplins were decent, slight gumminess but lacked seasoning that southern cuisine usually beams with. The loaded baked potato was fair but comparable to the one from Wendy's. Which to me is unfortunate. The chicken tasted just like the frozen chicken in the box made by Banquet. But it was drier than I can get out of the frozen chicken and that is an abomination to me. Maybe it was an off day, maybe I need to try a different entree. My wife and son enjoyed their food so maybe in the future I'll give them another go. By the way, they give Popeyes a run for their money on biscuits that will leave your mouth drier than California during the droughts. read more

When you walk in you are bombarded with a gift shop, which makes walking in a horrible experience. Fighting with people shopping, people leaving and then not even wheel chair friendly. Loved pulling in and see the rocking chairs on the porch. Our very first visit to Cracker Barrel. When you walk in you walk in to a cute little shop. Lots of little novelty items, clothing, old school candy and old fashioned sodas. We were seated right away and waitress greeted us as soon as we sat. She was friendly but seemed super busy. We ordered pretty quick and our food came out very quick. The biscuits and gravy come out in a basket and bowl for the table to share. Also a bowl of different flavored jam, Which the kids enjoyed. If you've never been to a Cracker Barrel, the experience is a must! It's a country store and an American diner all in one. We have been many times while living in Texas. We are now in California and stopping here is very nostalgic. That always makes for a positive experience but I will say that this experience was the best trip we've ever taken to Cracker Barrel. We both tried new dishes for us. My husband got the fried catfish. I got the smoky southern grilled chicken. They are our new favorites on the lunch/dinner menu (the breakfast menu has a a whole different, delicious ball game)! Perfectly cooked, excellent quality. That's great but not what made this experience the best ever. On top of the delicious food, our server was one of the best servers we've ever had. Her name is Hope and she was amazing. Attentive, friendly, very aware of each tables needs (I say this because the place was packed and the servers were busy!). Seriously, she was fun and made the time we spent there incredible. When we go back we will always ask for her and tip extra for the pleasure of having her. In addition when we mentioned how great she was to the manager, he was equally kind and gracious. Very friendly. Chris was running this place like a well oiled machine! As busy as they were, they were putting out great quality food, quickly and with great attitudes. Cracker Barrel? More like Crapper Barrel. Three of us ate for over $100 and I can't believe they can get away with charging so much for such garbage. I feel like a monster complaining about my dinner when there are so many people out there starving, but when you're shelling out money you *probably shouldn't be spending* for a dinner out, you expect it to be worth it. It wasn't. My mom got the fried chicken and said even KFC's was better. My dad got the meatloaf and scowled the whole time. I ordered a sirloin steak, rare. "Just sear it," I joked. But they did a pretty decent job delivering on that! It was nicely cooked, but tasted like garlic butter. The point of ordering a steak rare is to really taste the meat, but it was so overpowered by the seasoning that it was hard to stomach. And THE NOISE. Cracker Barrel is an experience in addition to a restaurant. Plenty of nostalgic signs and items to look at while dining. People watching is enjoyable. Bring extra money for their store, you are almost certain to find a nostalgic candy, drink, clothing or other item to purchase. Now for the food, the pancakes were not as fluffy or full as I like, but the taste did not suffer, the natural syrup (Maple syrup and cane sugar) was decidedly better than most restaurants. The eggs were flavorful, and the bacon was thicker than the usual tissue paper thick bacon you get elsewhere. Its a tad more pricey, but the ambiance and experience quality adds to the value. Oh, one last item, the restaurant is an open floor and gets a little noisy, so if that bothers you I would suggest taking a table outside. Very enjoyable breakfast. read more

So this was my first time ever dining at a Cracker Barrel. I've heard great things about the pancakes- so that's what I came for! They did not disappoint. I'm not fond of the super thick bread-like pancakes. I lovve crispy edges and on the thinner side, and that's exactly how they make them here! The flavor was also delicious, along with the warm syrup served with it. I didn't take photo's because I was hangry as always- but man it was delicious. My son ordered the kids pancakes that had fruity pebbles baked into them! He was so excited that people from the other table commented how happy he looked. Time to share some love, here's a tip for anyone thinking of going to cracker barrel. Go online and set a reservation for you table unless you got more than 6. If you got more than 6 don't come on here and complain about it. Secondly if your expecting huge heaping plates with giant servings go to some of these local breakfast spots best known for that because their servings aren't gigantic. This place serves country food filling and simple. If you come to this place expecting to eat at the greatest place in existence you are setting your sights too high and probably shouldn't be coming on Yelp complaining because it wasn't the greatest place you have ever been to. Ok with that out of the way, we had a party of 3, we reserved our table ahead of time on a Sunday afternoon and was told 1 hour 20 mins. Showed up about 45 mins later talked to hostess and was seated about 15 mins later. Service was very attentive one knock on her was she kept telling me what she was going to do before getting us our stuff which a simple "I'll be back" would of sufficed. Other than that service was great. I got the fried chicken breasts with Mac and loaded baked potato. The chicken was very flavorful crunchy and moist. The Mac and cheese was pretty good not the greatest I've ever had but was better than most places I've had. The baked potato surprised me it had more flavor than I would of expected and the bacon on the potato had a great smokey flavor to it. My wife got the sweet potato and it was amazing. All in all it was a good experience for us the waitress did give us our ticket very quickly and then proceeded to ask us if we wanted dessert which I found odd usually you ask first then give ticket. Being given the ticket well before we asked or was even half way done with our food felt like we were being rushed to leave. So to all reading this thinking of going, manage your expectations have some patience with these people if there are things wrong with your food give them a chance to make it right and I'm sure they will. The food is good not as awesome as the other Cracker Barrels on the east coast, but there is definitely room for improvement. I was here on the second day of opening and several times afterward to just test if the the service and food would decline after the trainers from other states left. I was worried since most of the restaurants in Bakersfield lack customer service and the waters and waitresses act as if the customers are bothering them to be in their restaurants eating. Out of the probably 10 times I have been here service has been great 8/10 times. The food I always order the Old Timer's breakfast since I was in my 20's and it is hard to mess up. However the last two visits including today's I order sourdough toast and they bring me biscuits and gravy and I have to wait for the toast to come out mean while my other food gets cold. Once this gets worked out and every waiter and waitress is giving 100% southern hospitality as all the other cracker barrels do then I will hopefully be able to give 5 star review. read more

Came on the 2nd day Cracker Barrel was open, arrived around 8:36am - just sorta walked in since the other people I was meeting up were already sat before I go there. So sitting pretty quick. The waitress did give me some extra time to look at menu since I arrived a bit later then the others. She was very nice, I believe her name was Stacy. There was a bit of a mix up on our order, but it got resolved and we ended up getting extra food because of it. (Which we didn't mind nor got charged for the extra food) all the employees were nice as well about the mix up. Since they're all new and the place is new some type of mix up might happen during your visit, but just remember it's a new restaurant & everyone is settling in. Portions were a little small on the egg & sausage patty was a small circle, but at the end I was pretty much full so maybe it's just me I enjoyed my breakfast, and so did the other 2 people in my party. Didn't try the biscuits and gravy but hopefully on the next dine in I give them a try. Do recommend going, just be patient with the staff. There's a bit of a wait with it being brand new to town, but if you check in online and join the waitlist ahead of time that will slash the wait times in half! Their gift shop is so cute and has lots to look at, but be super careful navigating through the gift shop as there are tons of breakable items. The food was pretty good, but a bit bland for the hype. Don't get me wrong it was good food but it wasn't out of this world. I ordered the fried chicken meal with coleslaw and green beans, the chicken was moist and crunchy the coleslaw was sweet and yummy, the green beans were mushy (kinda almost puréed texture) so I didn't like the texture. The staff was nice. The food was mediocre. I will say the chicken fried steak was good and the fried chicken but the Mac and cheese was very bland like the kind from Golden Corral, the "fried apples," likely come out of one of their pie filling cans and the cornbread was extremely bland.
