Every once and a while I lose my mind... take this morning for instance, my wife and I decide to take the family out for a nice breakfast. So what did we do...we took them to Cracker Barrel. Now this might seem like a normal thing to do but remember I said a nice breakfast. The order didn't get put in. After 20 minutes they let us know that it wasn't coming. They "started over" but somehow we got cold over easy eggs and cold "thick" cut bacon. The manager come out to say "gosh he was sorry" but didn't do anything to make it right. So 60 bucks and 2 cups of lukewarm brown water later we are headed out hopefully to never lose our minds again. If you are thinking of having a nice breakfast for the love of Pete don't do it Go to McDonald's where you can get the same cold crappy breakfast for a lot less read more

The waitstaff has been friendly and the breakfast has been awesome. Their blueberry muffins have been fantastic, you have to ask for apple butter (a must have). Im disappointed in how they cant seem to cook eggs though. They've always been too runny where the whites arent even cooked and the grits are way too watery. The bacon needs to be cooked longer (I like it crispy, but I guess I need to specify next time). I feel like this place is a hit or miss. It's different every time read more

The food took over 30 mins to get to us. (There was maybe 15 tables filled at the time.) Food was cold and bland. They offered no compensation, just a handful of weak apologies. Overall one of the worst experiences I've had at a restaurant. read more

Offering both hearty breakfast and light versions with calories info on the menu. Reliable and consistent good quality of food. Eggs cooked to order with eggbeater choices. A lot of side items to choose from. Pancakes are fluffy and crispy around the edges. Served with maple syrup in a warm/hot glass bottle and not too much butter on top... A nice treat. Wish they had more vegetable or fruit options for breakfast but the demand probably is not high there. Excellent and prompt service. A lot of space in parking and inside. We went back twice in a roll when visiting BCS. There are very few alternatives here. They certainly do not match this one in terms of good service and ease of seating. read more

Wow... what can I say. I have always enjoyed bringing my family here because of the friendly atmosphere and kind staff. The food is done well for the venue and it is always so clean. Today I stopped by this resturant to have a late breakfast with my daughter and son. My son wasn't feeling well, so he's hanging out with me outside of what he normally does. He becomes irritated and I leave to purchase him a toy in the store attached. The waitress waits until I'm gone to ask my daughter if my son was hers. What bothered me about this was that it did not progress the process of her being our server. That information did not help better her performance. Knowing whether or not my daughter had a baby should not be part of the process to do her job. Also, why wait until I have walked off? So she made a conscious choice to ask in my absence. So her inquiry was intentionally done in a way where I could not stop the unnecessary line of questions. So again, why ask? Was it a concern, was it a cultural bias or prejudice, or just plain disrespect? Either way, it was unneeded and rude. I gave this review three stars because the food was good. The service not so much. She disappeared several times. I had to ask the manager to bring my son some apple juice because he nor I could find the waitress. Would I return, maybe. I will make sure that our server is not this young lady again. read more

We were super excited to join another couple for dinner here, and although I have not been to a CB since I was 12 or so, the others could not stop talking about their chicken and dumplings. Our service was attentive, but not too much so, but the food was SO bland! Even the others, who were so excited about eating here, admitted that they were very disappointed. Three of us had the chicken and dumplings, which had a jelly-like texture and seemingly no seasoning, while one had fried chicken fingers with mashed potatoes that tasted, "out of the box." Maybe we ordered the wrong thing, but the guys have had chicken and dumplings at CB before (in other towns) and loved them. We might go back for another try, but only if my husband wants to, because I don't see any pull for me to go back. After being seated for 10 minutes no one ever came to my table. I sat watching as others were seated and waited on. I am truly disappointed in the waitstaff. Needless to say I picked up my menu and silverware to return in to the hostesses as I walked out. The hostesses weren't even at the entrance to the restaurants they were sorting menus and conversing at the table immediately to the right at the entrance to the restaurant. Aww, I love Cracker Barrel. Even if it's not cool or trendy. I went to this particular Cracker Barrel when I was visiting my brother and sister-in-law. The atmosphere was pretty much like every Cracker Barrel I've ever been to in my entire life. I suppose that's the nice things about chains: predictability. The food was good. I usually get the Smokehouse Breakfast. The service was attentive, kind, and quick. Cracker Barrel is almost always a place I'm pleased to go eat breakfast. I don't want to go every weekend, but every once in a while, it's a nice experience. Better than IHOP or Denny's any day! read more

Always a goto spot when the parents are around. My mom orders the same thing every time and i end up finishing it for her. This time around we had a group of 6. Grandparents split a meal, i order enough for two people (Country boy meal), and dad order a proportionate plate. The food came out piping hot, and ready to be enjoyed. The server are always on their game, and willing to help with every request. No complaints here. The meal came to around 68$ and was well worth it. I know i will be back, as per my mother. read more

We had a 10:00 am breakfast this morning. Very disappointed as we've always loved eating at Cracker Barrel. Our meals were both barely warm. His pancakes were very tough and cold. Not enough syrup to finish pancakes. My sausage biscuit gravy meal was almost cold and poorly seasoned. Tasted kind of like wallpaper paste. Come on, y'all can do better than that! read more

Our waiter, Reid, is one of the best waiters I have had at this location. Very knowledgeable of the menu and personable. I always get the egg sandwich which amazing & affordable. However, I would rather pay out with the waiter rather than going to the cashier because our casheri, Debbie, was extremely rude & left a bad impression overall. On the plus side of the equation, the food was very nice, they comped a large portion of the meal, and the server was really apologetic for al of the errors. On the negative side, there was the long, long waits between ordering and service, the fact that the food came out at vastly different times for different people at the table, and the missed, confused, wrong and perplexing orders and delivery. Eggs cooked wrong, mustard and server both missing requiring a visit to the kitchen to get some, strawberry jam for the French dip. I have never seen such confused botched service before, so at least they are tops at something. read more

Had supper today and found out that 4 of the healthier items had been replaced on the menu with less healthy items. Chose the chillie cheese grilled chicken thinking it was ok and found out later that it has 62 carbs, 3 times the carbs that I normally have in a day. The great thing about chains is that you can use the same review for each outlet of one. I know some folks think this McDonalds or Burger King varies from that one, but point of fact they do not. Consistency is why they succeed. And so to Cracker Barrell. On long drives, I have often found myself in situations where my choice was Cracker Barrell or a fast food joint. Easy choice. I can get a plate of greens, beans, maybe some slaw, and walk out without hating myself. Staff are uniformly pleasant in that bland corporate way. Jennifer was an awful waitress no shade I also think she was a racist. The pancakes, however, did not discriminate. On the other hand, Caleb was an excellent candy salesman. Its clearly chain-style food but that's okie. Still scrumdiliyumcious. They leave an impossible puzzle game on the table that serves no purpose other than to keep us occupied and leave us stressed out. "This comfort food" more like discomfort food. This restaurant chain came highly recommended by my friend, who is from Virginia, and she talked about it during grad school like it was the best ever. There are no CBs in California, where I am from, so I was excited to try the newest location in Bryan, TX. For middle of the day Saturday, the parking lot was full, but the wait for 2 was only 15 minutes. It gave us the opportunity to walk around the country store and admire the trinkets. There was some great stuff in this store, and quite a variety. It is cool that they allow you to "hold" things you want to purchase until after the meal so you only have to pay once for your ticket and trinkets. Someone welcomed me right away and the entire staff was friendly. Too much to choose from, especially since they serve BREAKFAST ALL DAY. I finally went with the Old Timer's Breakfast (from the website: Two Eggs* cooked to order with Grits, Sawmill Gravy, Homemade Buttermilk Biscuits, real Butter and the best Preserves, Jam n' Apple Butter (on request) we could find. ~plus~ Fried Apples or Hashbrown Casserole ~and~ Choice of Smoked Sausage Patties, Turkey Sausage Patties or Thick-Sliced Bacon) My specifics: Eggs over-easy, hashbrown casserole and thick-sliced bacon. Eggs were perfectly oozey in the middle, the gravy was thick and perfect to top the biscuits, the hashbrown was unique and tasty and the bacon was perfect crispy. I topped it off with a pancake and the CB special maple syrup. My friend and I enjoyed the atmosphere and had a friendly server. I will definitely return to this chain in the future and hopefully to enjoy the lunch or dinner menus. read more

Ever in search of a decent breakfast in BCS, we tried Cracker Barrel again (we had gone when it first opened up years ago). Not good. Food arrived just barely luke warm; gravy tasteless; have to ask for butter and jam (which come in little packets); biscuits dry as a bone; coffee weak. I really like it here for their breakfast items, particularly their buttermilk pancakes! So soft yet buttery and crispy on the edges. Not a huge fan of their dinner and lunch options though. I've gotten the fish and chips as well as their roast and both were too salty for my liking. However, the staff is very accommodating! I was disappointed, unfortunately. I got the country fried breakfast with hashbrown casserole and the country fried steak. Everything was under seasoned, the casserole just tasted like cheese, and the steak was over cooked. The biscuits were the highlight of the meal for sure. read more

Few restaurants truly have a culture of service in their kitchen and the restaurant. Cracker Barrel truly serves their customers. This place will have a line out the door on weekend mornings, but I have never waited for more than 15 minutes for a table. Orders always taken well and attended to. Dear cracker barrel smokehouse breakfast, Your smokehouse sausage no longer crumbles when cut, your smokehouse sausage gravy taste more like pepper than your smokehouse sausage, the bowls of gravy and grits are much smaller, your eggs are also smaller, your biscuits are no longer flakey and seem to resist soaking up any gravy or anything ealse for that matter, and your plate seems small or is it the small eggs. Are you just getting old like me and change isn't good for us. Growing up in Texas, sometimes you just crave country cooking. Surprisingly there aren't a lot of these types of places in Houston or BCS. In Houston Cleburne's cafeteria is my #1 spot. Second would be Luby's as safe and reliable. I never eat in the restaurant, I usually just take it to go. Any who, Cracker Barrel was always too far away since I lived in the loop and the closest was Rosenberg, I never tried it. When I moved to BCS, I found my 3 month turkey w/dressing craving unsatisfied & who wants to cook that at home? So I tried CB, love it! You know these restaurants are good if you see a lot of people that look like your grandparents. In all honesty, the food was good, fried okra was perfect, mashed potatoes were perfect. I will def come here again when I am craving country cooking. read more

I love this place!! Such a down home cozy environment.. especially with the fire during the winter time. And comfort food!! I've been to many cracker barrels but this particular location is my favorite... always good service (young college kids mostly), very friendly, great food, and it's always packed yet they find a way to get you in pretty quickly and get your food in a timely manner. And even if there is a little wait you can always browse the store or rock out in the rockin chairs and time goes by fast! The place was dead so there was no excuse. Finally a red headed waitress came over after taking her time seeing us there and finally seated us. She took our coffee order and left. Dependable and predictable spot for breakfast. Portion size is usually more than enough to fill up hungry Aggies and visiting t-sips alike. Lots of families and small children making an abundance of joyful noise, so maybe not the best venue for romantic conversations.
