We were in the mood for some meatloaf and a skillet meal last night, so we drove on over to Cracker Barrel where we have had those meals before. The waiter told her the skillet meals were seasonal but they were coming back. So while she changed her mind, I ordered the meatloaf with 2 sides of dumplings. He asked me how I wanted my meatloaf cooked (1st time I have ever been asked that for meat loaf ever) I replied med/well She got the smoked ham with 2 sides. The waiter came back with our meals, he ham looked delicious. He put down on the table a thin overl cooked steak. And 2 sides of dumplings. I said I ordered meat loaf and he said they were out of meat loaf. Now why would he decide for me to give me a steak? Why when ordering tell me they were out? So he decided for me what I wanted? I told him take the steak back and I'll eat the 2 dumplings. Honestly I was a bit set back that he arbitrarily decided for me. When we went up to check out the cashier asked how are meals were? I replied you really don't wanna know. The Manager unbeknownst to me was walking behind me. He asked me what happened and I explained. I told him we ate the ham meal and the dumplings and I would pay for that. He turned to the cashier and said let me help. He handed me a receipt with zero charges at which I can't do that we ate the food less the steak. Service was friendly and fast, however they didn't ask me if I wanted anything else before bringing the check. (Otherwise, I would have had a piece of pie as well). I used to love coming here. It was one of my favorite places to eat. The last two times have been extremely horrible though. One time they screwed our bill up four times and couldn't get right. We ended up just paying the extra charges so we're could just leave. The last time was yesterday 10/21/23 and it was even worse. We sat down and got our drinks quickly. Then it took about 35 minutes for them to take out order About 5 tables surrounding us were sealed AFTER we ordered and they all got their food before us. The young lady who was taking the wait list at this establishment was not only not smiling, but almost scowling when she greeted me! I read her name tag and used her name when I said, "Hey! This location is struggling! We got to this Cracker Barrel location at opening time, and can say without a doubt it was the worst CB experience we've ever had. First, the women's restroom was not clean, even though I was the first person to use it for the day. The guy at the host station, who I'm assuming is the manager, proclaimed that "my host and both servers called out today", so we expected the service to be a bit slow and kept our orders simple. My husband had the breakfast sampler, and I had an egg sandwich with hashbrown casserole. The food was edible, though not as warm or well-seasoned as we would have liked. Met a friend for breakfast this morning. I haven't been to a Cracker Barrel in quite a few years. I got the Old Timers Breakfast. Standard eggs, meat, hash browns, and biscuits and gravy with a cup of coffee. My friend got something similar with hot tea. Food came out quickly and was fine. The only issue was that our server never offered me more coffee or my friend more water for tea. It wasn't early (10am-ish) so it wasn't busy. It's been awhile since I've been at a cracker barrel, so stopped here one night after finding a Christmas Tree close by I loved. *When you walk in a employee greets people and makes sure you have a mask if not they will provide you with one.* The first night eating here I had a Veggie plate you pick 4 sides, they are not actually all veggies. One thing I got was the Potatoe Casserole which seems to be what Cracker Barrel is known for. To be honest I am not a fan anymore of it. It tastes pastry and thick, I think it use to be crispier. The veggies were good. I have to say the mashed potatoes on the hamburger steak plate was a wimpy serving, just a small amount for what you pay for the dinner. The steak burger did have a nice taste. One thing I have to do is give a shout out to Summer our waitress. She was a doll!!! So sweet and personable!! Her twin sister Autumn and her Mom also work there. We made sure to tell the manager in charge how good she was. (Summer if you ever see this ~ you are a sweetheart , good luck for the future finishing school & future work!!) The very next night had to go pick the tree up and decided to eat here again and asked for Summer of course. She is a very good waitress and won't be there much longer because of going back to school so stop and ask for her! This night I ordered the Chicken Dinner you get 2 breasts. I ate one , no way I could eat both. I liked this dinner, I think this use to be a Sunday special and they made it available all the time now. The breakfast menu use to be separate it is no longer. Just a small section now. Serious changes because of covid and all the rules for eating inside has made a big difference in the business they get. They certainly are feeling the repercussions , we could see the difference for sure, and I hope it don't ruin their business. And of course as for the gift shop, I love seeing what they have especially during the holidays. Beautiful trees and decorations. Of course I had to buy a few new items for the tree that were cute. This Cracker Barrel was not far from our Destination resort, but it was too early for check in, so we busied ourselves from our early flight (our trip was in March, before the world shut down), and sat down for a yummy morning breakfast. CB's are the same the country over, and that is what makes them good. You can get the same thing in NC as you do in FLA. I ordered a big breakfast with all the fixings, and my guy did too. Then we were told 3 cooks called in so there would be a wait at the table. We waited over an hour for food at 10:30 am on a Sunday morning. When the food arrived 2 people were given maybe two teaspoons of hash brown casserole and 1 egg instead of the two they ordered. My bacon was undercooked. The waiter was definitely trying but the kitchen was killing him ! I , of course, tipped him because he did his job. Those days seem to be long behind us. We arrived nearly an hour before closing time and were delayed to be seated, delayed to order and delayed on food arrival. The waitress took our order and came back with our drinks then we did not see her again for 30 minutes when she brought the food. She dropped it off and never came back to check or refill drinks. When we were ready to leave we couldn't find her or any other server anywhere. We got up to walk to the front to pay and saw our server sitting at a table with the manager eating.
