Stopped in for lunch with a buddy on Saturday around 4pm. We got seated and waited a fair amount of time the. Saw our waiter. I asked about an allergen menu, and he took our drink order. A few minutes later he showed up with a manager who explained that I would need to scan the QR code on the menu that they don't have allergen menus in print. I explained that I saw the QR code and tried it and the information it provides is confusing and incorrect. I am celiac so I can't have flour basically. Well the online allergen menu allows for you to chose your allergy in this case wheat, then its supposed to provide you with accurate choices. Well it shows chicken fried steak as gluten friendly under breakfast options but the same CFS under dinner is not? Ok, well then it shows the lunch meatloafs is safe but the dinner isn't. So which is it? Ugh, ok well I can wing it as always so I ordered some eggs and steak tips. About 45 minutes later me and my buddy was like hey where are our drinks? Then we noticed that some people that had come in after us were eating the food they ordered. Hmm, so my buddy goggles the number for the store and asks the person whom answered how long does it take to get your drinks once seated. "Oh maybe 5 minutes tops" then well what about your food? "Usually petty quick depends on party size and what's ordered". He responds 2 people the catfish plate and a breakfast plate eggs and steak tips. " should be easily 10 minutes or less". We'll be then proceeds to explain well that's not the case because we've been here for more the 50 minutes and we still don't have our drinks and other around us have come in orders eaten and left. The person on the phone comes and finds us I the dining room and apologizes and asks what we ordered. We told her and she heads to the kitchen. Within a few minutes she's back with most of the food we ordered and incorrect drinks. Ok well we appreciate the food but we're still missing these two items and asked for cornbread not biscuits. After about 4 more trips back and forth we finally get what was ordered along with more apologies. She even comped the meal. Well I do appreciate the free meal. It what we were after, we just wanted to eat a late lunch. Ironically the table behind us leaned over and asked what did we do to finally get our food. Why do you ask? We were in line after you at the hostess stand and still haven't gotten our food yet either. Ouch. My buddy explained what he did, ironically the manager came back by to see if we were ok and we pointed out the couple behind us apparently have the same issue with their food. Their excuse was that the kitchen had to make more since they had run out without offering them the option to change their order or decide to wait. Honestly they weren't very busy even though it's the weekend before Christmas and we saw are several waiters and staff standing around so not sure what was going on. Very disappointing overall. Unlike their other entrees, which are made to order, the Campfire meals are premade. When I ordered the Campfire Beef, my waiter informed me that it was recently out but assured me it should be available by now. If not, it should take about 5 minutes. The taste of these dishes would depend on how long the ingredients had been simmering in the broth before being served. Mine must have been premade because my Pink Lemonade Spritz took longer than the Campfire Beef. The entree was served in a sealed foil packet. None of the items required a knife; only a fork. The beef was incredibly tender. However, since the corn cob was covered in the broth, I used a knife to cut the kernels off the cob. Otherwise, my hands would be soiled. For dessert, I ordered the S'mores Brownie Skillet. Graham cracker fans will love it, but it was difficult to take a bite without the graham cracker crumbs. Once every few bites, I needed a drink of water. Unfortunately, it was not until posting this review that I discovered my waiter failed to serve either the biscuits or the cornbread with my meal. I hate not to give a good review as the waiter was amazing. But the food was below average all the way Chicken Fried Steak was a frozen premade patty that was salty and taste horrible, gravy was cold and lumpy and grits Sat in a bowl of congealed grease. Scrambled eggs came out as a thin flat overcooked no flavor yuck. Waiter was great and did take off the horrible CFS Biscuit was good and stuffed pancake had all the right flavors. The hour was four in the afternoon, the hearth was ablaze with a most picturesque and comforting fire, and the establishment, though not bustling, exuded a warmth that beckoned weary travelers such as ourselves. I partook in the Early Bird Supper, a most economical offering with portions more befitting the sensible appetite. Indeed, we Americans are oft too indulgent in our repasts! My selection was the fried chicken cutlet, accompanied by the renowned hashbrown casserole (a delicacy of great repute) and the fried apples, which lent a pleasing sweetness to the plate. My dear husband, ever the intrepid gourmand, selected the pot roast shepherd's pie, a dish of great richness, boasting an astonishing 1,300 calories! Good heavens! Food was WELL BELOW expectations. Fried okra was mushy, barely warm and baked. Mash potatoes were powered and not eaten.....even gravy didn't improve taste. Chicken & Rice were OK. I used to prefer other breakfast eateries because of the wait and having to mingle with throngs of people in the Country Store until a table was free. We went shortly before the flap about the CEO who wanted to blah the logo and do a woke rework. There wasn't a crowd like the old days, and fortunately the meals were tasty. It was a good experience at this Grapevine location, but this chain needs to get back to the basics that made them popular before they go belly up. Horrible food. Overly salted. The "country" green beans had some weird seasoning. The broccoli had a weird seasoning. The chicken and dumplings had so much salt it was ridiculous. The server was GREAT! We tipped her well. She said she mentioned to the cook the ckn and dumplings were too salty and she reported back the cook said "her finger slipped, my bad". Breakfast at this location, March 14, approximately 10:00 AM. My wife and I were surprised that immediate seating was available. I had 2 eggs, bacon, hash brown casserole, coffee and orange juice. Wife had blueberry pancakes, eggs and bacon. Service started out good. The server arrived quickly and took our drink orders. Drinks came quickly. We had to wait a while to order. It took a long time to get our food. Received one coffee refill while waiting and one with our meals. The food arrived and was very close to room temperature. It obviously hadn't even been on a warmer. When the server didn't come back to check on us, I began eating. My wife waited longer, then got up to find our server. She took my wife's food to warm it up. It came back in about two minutes. It was still cold. Like nothing had been done. The server dropped it off and didn't even wait long enough to see if it was warm enough. In addition, the bacon for both of us was obviously precooked. It was like the bacon you get at a serve yourself hotel breakfast. Bacon stuck together and about half of it had rubbery fat. The hash brown casserole was not cheesy and dry. My wife had questioned the server about the blueberry syrup. She said it had pieces of blueberry. My wife's syrup, along with being cold with no pieces of blueberry, was more like a juice. Very thin. My wife did not eat any of her breakfast. When the server came back, my wife let her know that her meal was awful. The server apologized. Pretty soon, a manager came by, acknowledged the problems and comped our meal. We still tipped. Although the service wasn't great, the main problems were out the server's control. We don't eat at CB often. It is 20 or so miles from home, so it had been a while since we ate there. Quality has really gone down. Despite the manager doing the right thing, we won't be going back. Wait time was about 30 minutes on a Sunday afternoon, but they got us in quicker than 30. The tables and floors were clean and just as other Cracker Barrels, it was decorated very nostalgic. The food was really good! I ordered the grilled chicken tenders. Gratefuly, they were not dry, seasoned well, tender enough to cut with a fork, and the serving size was good. The green beans and mashed potatoes were also seasoned well and very flavorful. The biscuits were warm and tasted fresh. Unfortunately, neither the girl taking names, our server, or the server at the next table ever cracked a smile, no human connection whatsoever. Finally one arrived, I said I'd like to order. Oh, she would have to go get her tablet. Nope, not acceptable. Pros: clean store and the kids love looking at all the toys upon entry. They always have good deals on stuff and I always forget to shop there. Food is priced well and overall atmosphere of restaurant is homelike. Hash brown casserole and bread always hits the spot. Cons: On this experience the customer service was lacking. We had to flag down servers because our server kept disappearing. Steak was super well done almost Jerky texture so we sent that back and it took 20+ minutes for a med-rear steak. Waiter comped the meal for that mistake. Someone needs to check on the well being of the servers they seemed overworked or under staffed on a not so busy night. I don't always have this type of experience so I'll be back again but not too soon. read more

We love coming here bc the staff does really make you feel relaxed & at home. Michael was our server & he did a great job for us! The homely atmosphere is very calm & quiet. And my wife & I noticed there are regulars that frequent this store. The service is always great & the freshness of the food is always on point. Anything off the menu is great. Had to wait to be seated because two employees couldn't decide on where to seat the three of us even though the restaurant was empty yet was put right next to another occupied table. Upon ordering my Classic Sampler the waiter said it came with 3 sides even though the menu said 2, so I selected a third side. The other two ordered the chicken and dumplings. When our food came, only one side was brought out with my order and after asking for the other was almost finished with my meal when it was finally brought out. The meatloaf was bland and tasted like it had been in a warmer for a long time as did the hashbrown casserole. The greens that was ordered was too salty to eat having to ask for a replacement. The chicken and dumplings were very runny with very little chicken. And the waiter didn't even check on refilling drinks until after we were done eating. Do better Cracker Barrel. However I doubt I will ever visit one again after todays experience. read more

I'm writing this review based on my last 2 visits in the past 2 weeks. It sure makes a huge difference who you get as a server and who's in the kitchen. Our first visit went wonderfully. We had a younger, peppy server. Our food was yummy. We ordered the hamburger steak with gravy, potatoes, and fried okra. Also, catfish, with fixings, and grilled chicken with beans. On our second visit, we ordered the hamburger steak, pot pie, and fried shrimp. The only thing good was the shrimp. Our server was an older lady who was not very attentive, slow, and not helpful. She also swept under the table right next to us while she sat in a chair. Maybe that's standard, but we didn't feel that sweeping right next to someone eating was sanitary, as stuff flies up in the air. Based on our last experience, we won't be going back for a while. read more

Just an ok location. Unfortunately Cracker Barrel has become inconsistent in their reliability. The food here is hot or miss and on this visit it was a miss. I ordered the fried chicken, and while it was fried chicken it was NOT fried to order chicken, in fact, it tasted hours old. Note to self...be VERY suspicious when fried chicken comes out within minutes of ordering it. Sad. We love cracker barrels, but this one is horrible. We have tried on and off for two years to see improvements, but it gets worse. It takes a while to get seated, then a while for your order, then it took an additional 45-50 to get the food. This is a reoccurring issue. They are always disorganized. They have plenty of workers. Problem is they are not smart and are always running around looking confused. Have not seen a place this good this horribly managed in a long time. If you value your time at all, forget it. We came at about noon on Sunday and waited about an hour for a party of four. It is because they said they were really understaffed and couldn't serve many people unfortunately. When we got seated they took our order pretty quickly. I got the grandma breakfast and that was a good cross section of their breakfast hits - the best part was the biscuits but ask for the gravy on the side else everything gets super smothered. The pancakes and eggs were ok, but the hasbrowns were basically tasteless. The coffee was good and bottomless. When we arrived here the spouse was excited that we were only a few blocks from a Cracker Barrel. At first it was great, but it began to slip before Covid, and has never worked to get back to their previous level of service. We used to go to Cracker Barrel when I was younger and it was always good. I LOVED their hash brown casserole! Last night's visit though? Not so good. Of course the store is always fun to walk through, so that is largely where the 2 stars come from. We were seated quickly, and then it took quite some time for our server to get our drink orders. I ordered their new huckleberry iced tea. I didn't think to ask if it was sweetened. It was. It was very sweet to to point that it just had a really weird taste. I decided on breakfast for dinner. 1. Eggs soft scrambled - they were horribly dry. 2. Hash brown casserole - it was sort of crispy as if it had been out since morning; also dry. 3. Bacon was ok. 4. I ate some of my grits with my fork since I did not have a spoon and since the server was very rarely seen. No taste at all, but then that isn't unusual for grits so they get a pass on that. 5. The biscuits were quite good and 6. the gravy wasn't bad. My fiancé's chicken and dumplings were pretty good. I was very disappointed both the meal and the service.
