Classic Texas experience. Food was good, customer service on point.....and I didn't break the bank.

We were a group of 4 adults and 4 children for an early dinner. They have a nice menu with plenty of excellent dinner options. The menu is similar to what you get at Cracker Barrel and IHOP. Execution is lacking on some of their selections. The fried okra and "bacon" green beans specifically. The okra was fried so hard that it was actually crunchy. After one taste I was completely done with those. On the menu the green beans sounded delicious but on my plate I immediately detected false advertising. There was barely any bacon and zero attempt at seasoning, they were pretty pitiful. They have daily specials on their menu and my daughter tried it and enjoyed her meal. read more

Normally, I love the food at Cotton Patch Cafe. Can't say the same for this location because we were never served. The hostess seated people in front of us even though we were clearly standing there first. I didn't mind that so much because that old lady probably would have raised hell. Once seated, we were promptly ignored. Not even a request to bring water was offered. We sat there about 20 minutes before deciding to leave. The people that were seated right before us had not only been waited on, but they all had their food already. Guess it just wasn't our time here. read more

My husband and I have lived in the area for about 3 years but this is the first time we've ever had Cotton Patch Cafe. We ordered online for pickup: chicken tenders w/ gravy & fries, extra side of fries, side of mashed potatoes, cup of chicken and dumplings, cinnamon apples, and dinner rolls. I honestly didn't have high hopes since my experience for takeout is typically sub-par no matter where I go. But I was pleasantly surprised. When we first walked in, we checked at the host stand to make sure we went to the right area to get our order. The hostess was busy at the moment but someone else stopped by to greet us and let us know the hostess would be with us shortly. When we told her that we were there for a pickup, she walked over to the bar area with us, made sure we didn't need to place a to-go order and then offered us seats while we waited. She was extremely genuinely friendly... so much so that I kind of wished we were dining in so we could have her as our server. One might think that it was just the one person working there but nope. The bartender who was putting together our order was equally as friendly. I sat there shocked and kept talking to my husband about it because nowadays, friendly service is hard to come by unless it's a super expensive restaurant (if even there). Obviously the quality of food matters when we choose a place to eat but I'll take a 3 or 4-star chicken tender at this Cotton Patch Cafe over a 5-star chicken tender anywhere else because of the level of customer service. My husband said the chicken tenders were fine. "Nothing to write home about" were his exact words but good enough that he would definitely eat them again. The fries are on the soggier end which I love but he likes crispier fries so we're a house divided on those. The cup of chicken and dumplings is the best I've ever had. Perfect texture on the dumplings and great flavor. Usually at other places this dish can be bland or the dumplings too tough... but Cotton Patch Cafe does it so well! They didn't try to elevate a simple comfort food into something it doesn't need to be. I'm already thinking about when I can get it again. The dinner rolls are SO GOOD. Fresh, warm, soft. YUM. Definitely order a side of gravy to dip them in. *I was too full to try the mashed potatoes or cinnamon apples so the review of those will have to wait.* Long story longer: if you're in the area, go here. We went to the Lewisville location for a late lunch and were very impressed with the place. The service was excellent and the food was even better. I had the salmon which was cooked perfectly. The green beans were great. Of course, I could eat a hundred of those rolls. We will definitely be back. read more

Cotton Patch is a good choice for a good meal at a reasonable price! Our last experience was a bit strange at the Flower Mound location. The young man at the host stand greeted us with no smile and "I'm sorry but the sees a 10 minute wait for a table". I'm VERY forgiving, but this is not the way to greet customers just walking in. I heard him greet everyone exactly the same way. And no, he never smiled at anyone. I believe he needs some training on how to run a host stand. ALWAYS smile at people and say hello first! Then we were seated and the restaurant was maybe 1/3 to 1/2 full. Our server came and to her credit, she told us that the kitchen was running behind and it would be at least 30 minutes for our food to arrive. We thanked her and told her we were going to have to go eat elsewhere. I'm assuming the kitchen was as understaffed as the dining room. It's too bad because we really enjoy going to Cotton Patch restaurants. Might avoid the Flower Mound location for a while read more

Cotton Patch Cafe is known for their chicken fried steak. Most everybody who doesn't have something against chain restaurants will tell you that Cotton Patch is the place to go for consistently good chicken fried steak. I just enjoyed my dinner at Cotton Patch and if they had an appreciation bell, I would have rang it. The fresh rolls are warm and soft. They don't need butter, but it's there. These rolls are irresponsible. The entre (with 2 sides) arrived soon and it was an eyeful. Fortunately, the plate was big because the chicken fried steak barely fit. The steak was properly tenderized and a thick, crispy breading that was perfectly cooked. It came out piping hot with a good amount of creamy gravy. Nicely seasoned, too. I didn't have any empty breading that you sometimes get when the steak mysteriously shrinks away from the edges. The mashed potatoes were real, with garlic and pepper. Topped with more of that creamy gravy. Very nice. In the south, they say you can't overcook green beans but these came pretty close to it. I would have preferred them a little less done, but they were tasty with a little bacon added. A big thank you to Abigail M. who greeted, seated and served us so well. Abigail, you made our dinner delightful. I hope to see you again. One last tbing; There was a sign on the table that informed us of a 5% COVID surcharge for dine-in customers. Was that to cover the cost of disinfectant for the tables and face masks for employees? It didn't look like there was anything special being done to clean up between diners (and apparently no wiping down the salt and pepper grinders that we share). I now see that it states that the surcharge is due to the effect of the pandemic on food prices. It was obvious that this Cotton Patch location was doing much more business in take-out orders than dine-in. I wonder why the take-out customers weren't helping to carry the burden of the (hopefully) temporary food price spike? read more

We were in the mood for chicken fried steak and chicken fried chicken. Called in our 2 go order girl answering the phone was very sweet and took our orders needed a credit card number which we expected. Went over at time I'd asked for was waiting for me I asked for some extra gravy which she happily got for me. The food was delicous got mashed potatos(were made with real pitatos even has some skin mixed in) and wonderful green beans seasoned just right with a little bit of bacon. Even included 2 soft rolls. I like going to Cotton Patch to have a meal. It's usually hot and tasty. But never ever order a meal from one of the car services like Uber or Door Dash as you'll get an incomplete order or one that tends to be cold or tepid in temperature. To give you an example, I ordered a meal from Cotton Patch on Sunday, 13 Nov. I ordered Beef Tips, Brisket Queso, a peach cobbler and an iced tea. I was recovering from knee surgery and was confined to my place for a while. When the food arrived at my door step (I even paid for priority delivery) I opened the bag to see that they had not included the iced tea, the cobbler had no ice cream with it, no eating utensils were included and my food was tepid. This is not the first time they've not included my drink and neglected to include ice cream on the cobbler. Do not order from Cotton Patch, only go there for food! read more

OK... not happy at all with the Host, Server and food! Took us to a table that was NOT clean! server didn't check on us! The food was Cold... like it had been left at the window tooo long! the only HOT food was My Jumbo Fried Mushrooms! I had to ask for water and napkins. I think he server needs MORE TRAINING.. I left the table because he didn't leave the ticket, he finally got to the front and gave him $40.00 dollars our bill was $34.15 he decided to keep the money for a tip?!! whos does that??! Servers where not attentive. Waited several minutes with two servers walking by and never acknowledged me or made eye contact Almost left. A server that was off the clock stopped and asked if I'd been helped. He got me a drink. When he came back he asked what I wanted. He said he'd tell the cook to start it and another server would bring it out. He was the only one working with any pulse. He stayed to make sure I was taken care of. Nice young man. Came to Cotton Patch for a last minute dinner and was very impressed with the cleanliness of the restaurant and was greeted with a smile. Our server Jazzmyn was very polite and attentive to my needs. The food was excellent! I had chicken fried chicken and the chicken was very tender, and the sweet tea was cold and fresh. Jazzmyn also suggested other items like the funnel cake fries which looked very interesting ! I will definitely try those next time !! I will be definitely coming back to this location to try some other dishes that sparked my interest. Overall Jazzmyn was an excellent server and went over and beyond to make sure we had a great experience.
