Of widespread chain restaurants, this is the absolute most reliable for quality & service. Even the 'store' entry is the same everywhere. Lots of goodies there to choose from (bad grammar, I know). Breakfasts & lunch entrees are always good. If you haven't tried the rainbow trout, it's awesome & I always choose Fried Okra and Turnip Greens as my sides. Our waitress was pulled thin from all the tables she was at. And I think that led to us feeling like we were a bother even being there. I would not go back to this CB. I asked if I could get the regular fried chicken all dark with a side of Nashville Hot. He went to ask the manager and she came to the table and asked what do you want. I explained to her I wanted the Nashville Hot chicken but all dark. She told me it comes with 2 white and 2 dark. I informed her this was not listed on the menu as how it comes. She said that is what it comes with. I politely declined everything and asked for my check for the drinks. The waiter came back and said we didn't have to pay. I asked for another manager on the way out and she tells me that corporate controls how they distribute their chicken. RIDICULOUS! My last pick up at this store has not changed. I do not know why this restaurant cannot get the order right to save their lives. It was not a big order. I ordered a catfish dinner (3 piece with 3 sides) and I redeemed my points as well, since I have been ordering from this restaurant quite a bit. They have you look at your order before leaving the restaurant, which is a sign that THEY do not trust their own kitchen to get the order right. As usual, my order was not right. I got (2) pieces of catfish instead of (3) and only (2) sides instead of the (3) as I paid for and had given a tip on this order. When ordering online, they ask for a tip, which I give too, and they still cannot get the order right. The supervisor needs to address this issue that has been on-going, and I believe I am not the only one. If the kitchen is not getting the orders right, something is terribly wrong when they cannot count up to a (3) piece dinner with the (3) sides. I am switching from this Cracker Barrel to another one because it is apparent that Customer Service issues are not being addressed in their kitchen. Our waitress, Keyanna, was The Best! The restaurant was busy when we were there, but we got seated quickly! Sound level was a little loud and a little difficult to hear each other, but we enjoyed ourselves. My husband said that the biscuits recipe seems to have changed, but he likes the new recipe even better. I got the Bacon & Egg Hashbrown Casserole, a side of fried apples and a Hot Caramel Latte. During lunch, I requested another Latte and apparently the kitchen ran out of milk, so it took longer to receive another and our waitress went above and beyond by paying for my drink herself because she felt bad that I waited so long for another! Love the old soul feel of Cracker Barrel. We came here for a book club meeting and it was a nice place to meet, eat, and have a drink. Now there is only beer and wine but I can't believe it. They didn't play either. It was some really good mimosas. The biscuits and apple butter is always good. I ordered the U.S. Farm-Raised Fried Catfish dinner with two sides. I got green beans and the greens. Not gone lie the green beans were decent but the greens had a funny smell and taste. I'm not sure if they were burnt or what. My only request and this might be an Indianapolis thing but Catfish and Swai are two different fish. The menu read Catfish not Swai so I was a little disappointed eating this fish which was Swai not catfish because I had my mouth set on Catfish. I also ordered a side of fried shrimp. They were crispy , fried to perfection. Honestly should have chose it for my entree. The server was nice. I always love the competitive games on the table. Service was fast. What a disappointment. Sat down 12:30 ordered the special pot roast with salad and eggs, biscuits & gravy with side of apples. 1pm no refill till mgr walked by with a pot I stopped to ask her to top off as mine was cold. 1:20 asked waitress to at least bring side salad she asked if we wanted biscuits while we wait., we gladly said yes . The corn bread muffins had absolutely no flavor, just bland! Finally got up to ask mgr how much longer it would be then my food finally arrived and arrived luke warm. The mgr came over to our table and remembered refilling my coffee quite some time ago and apologized for the long wait. The eggs were barely warm, the gravy needed warmed up and overall just disappointed. A free dessert should have at least been offered for the hour wait for eggs! Cracker Barrel is a great place to visit when I want quick, southern comfort food for an affordable price. They have 20 meals under $12. Luckily, we have a Cracker Barrel restaurant approximately 3 1/2 miles from our house. I prefer to order online, pick up, check order is correct, and enjoy at home, but my husband enjoys dining in. We both feel the side portions are larger if we dine in vs. the smaller carryout containers. Another reason to dine in is to browse the large, attached country store. They have many seasonal women and baby clothing, jewelry, seasonal decorations, quilts, cookbooks, toys, games, and nostalgic candies. Christmas trees and decorations have been set up for a while now. The popular adult or children's wooden rocking chairs are still out for holiday gift giving. Cracket Barrel offers an online wait list, which is fabulous, especially during prime dining hours. We use it most often on Saturday mornings. The breakfast menu is served all day. The lunch menu isn't served until 11:00 a.m. Many times even after 11:00 the turnip greens aren't ready yet. One of the servers informed me years ago that when ordering the Old Timers Breakfast, I could order grilled spicy catfish as my meat option. I now order catfish 90% of the time. The Old Timers Breakfast is served with 2 eggs prepared your way, a breakfast side plus choice of bacon, sausage, or catfish. It comes with biscuits and gravy. I honestly order lunch or dinner most often since my favorites revolve around lunch/dinner sides. My personal favorite is the dinner option of 2 grilled spicy catfish fillets with 3 sides. I love the dumplings and turnip greens as my sides and just double up on one of those. This allows me to have leftovers for lunch the next day. Another option I order almost every time I eat Cracker Barrel is the Bowl of Turnip Greens with cornbread for lunch the next day. Make sure the server understands you're ordering the Bowl and not just a small veggie side. This mistake occurred last week with my order. The chicken and dumplings entree with 3 sides is my second personal favorite. With that entree, I get 2 sides of ham seasoned turnip greens and a loaded baked potato or loaded baked sweet potato (upcharge for potato). Fried okra, fried apples, green beans, or hash brown casserole are a few of my other favorite sides. I always get cornbread with my turnip greens and biscuits with my chicken and dumplings entree. I split equal amounts of biscuits and corn bread when I order Beans and Greens (pinto beans and turnip greens are boxed separately). Just writing this makes me wish Cracker Barrel was open. Our servers have been sliding lately, but our server last week was terrific. She promptly took our drink and food order, delivered timely, removed unclean dishware, and didn't disappear when time for our check. To-go boxes arrived quickly along with our check so we could pay quickly and get home. Most of you reading this have probably been to Cracker Barrel. First I went for the good Ole catfish....They had none on a Friday evening around 730pm. Nor did they have any Cod. So I settled for shrimp. We ordered pretty quickly and we all got breakfast food so we were surprised to not see our food quickly. After 40 minutes we checked with a manager to see what was going on. This is my favorite neighborhood go-to when I don't feel like cooking but I want to eat good within a decent amount of time for a good price. Today I was less than thrilled. My service was extremely slow- but the waitress was pleasant, if that makes sense! She brought out biscuits but no jam (c'mon they are known for their good jam), a loaded baked potato but no sour cream, my water without a lemon (yes, I asked for her to bring lemons twice) & my daughters chicken n dumplings were cold. I only visit Cracker Barrel occasionally, and that often with someone else who chose to eat there. I do appreciate the concept of Cracker Barrel old country store. I like the decor sprinkled with antiques, the roaring fireplace on a one degree below zero morning, and a quaint little store for souvenirs often not seen elsewhere. I like the southern cooking style. Then why you I only frequent their store on an occasional basis, you may ask? A few years ago, I went to breakfast at Cracker Barrel. It's been long enough that I don't recall which one. But, I ordered a breakfast with eggs. When they arrived I was amazed that they were able to find eggs that small. I have never seen eggs that small in a grocery store. I was tempted to ask to see the shells to see if they were blue instead of white or brown. (Robin Eggs, for those who don't know your egg colors). I emailed the company and pointed out that the difference in cost between tiny chicken eggs and large ones must only be a couple of cents. How much more money would they make if I returned more often because the eggs were generous in size. It was as if I got one egg with two yolks. My wife arranged for us to meet some relatives coming through Indianapolis at Cracker Barrel on Sunday morning. I ordered "Mama's Breakfast," which had eggs and french toast. The egg buyer for Cracker Barrel has not as yet retired. He is hard at work seeking out the smallest eggs he can find. At least they were cooked correctly to order, over medium. The curious part of the story is the order of french toast was huge. I found that paradox baffling. They also had larger coffee cups than my last visit. Other than the small eggs, the decor was nice, the service was friendly and efficient, and the food was pretty good. That's why I still gave them four stars in spite of my pet peeve about the tiny eggs. I hope by my next visit in a couple of years, they give the egg buyer early retirement and just go down the street to Aldi and buy some large eggs. read more

Sloooooooow service. We got here around 5:20 on a Friday. We were seated promptly and the restaurant was only at about a third capacity, which is not a good sign. It should be packed at this time on a Friday. We sat for about 10 minutes before we were greeted and placed our drink and food order. Our waitress seemed somewhat new and busy, so we gave her some slack. After waiting about 15 minutes, she came back to our table and asked a few questions about my order. Again, we cut her some slack. After about a half an hour, our food arrived, but she said my chicken tenders would be another couple of minutes. No big deal, since we had everything else. While eating, several other tables complained about the long wait for the food, so we assumed the delays were all in the kitchen. My chicken tenders finally arrived and I asked for a to-go box since were done eating. I touched the chicken and it was luke warm. It should have been fresh out of the fryer. Cracker Barrel used to be someplace that always had excellent service and good food at a reasonable price. In the past couple of years, it has lost that reputation with us, at least at this location in Indianapolis. The service is hit and miss, the accuracy of the order is poor, and the value for product is questionable. I tried ordering online several times and won't order takeout due to the orders not being correct. I've worked in several restaurants and it's not that hard to check an order before it goes out. Management needs to get busy and correct the problems or this location won't be around much longer, imo. read more

Cracker Barrell is usually pretty consistent with their meals and recipes across the country from my experience. I have never been dissatisfied with the food. Ms. Paris gave excellent service. The fireplace warm warm and cozy. A perfect breakfast on a cold gloomy day. I have not been able to get to this location in a few years. I'm happy I had a chance to come in today. I'm so full. The worst experience ever at a Cracker Barrel. On a Sunday 8/18/24 around 1123a I was seated. After about 10-12 minutes 2 other families were seated after me. They were putting orders and drinks in and at this point no one ever came to my table. So after about an additional 3 minutes I finally went to the manager and ask why no one came to my table and how did those other 2 families get to put drink and food orders in before me and I was there 10 minutes before they were? The manager apologized and took my order, by this time I'm not feeling ok with what's going on. The waitress brings water and warm OJ to the table. Warm OJ are you serious right now, I had enough, told the waitress the service was unsatisfactory, and I was leaving. We were told online that our food would be out at 8:27pm and at 8:55pm my husband went in and found our food was not even ready so we had to wait another 15 minites or so to finally get our food. They were so worried about closing although we ordered at 8:15pm that they cared nothing about their customers. It seems there was another curbside order who was there waiting longer than we were. Once again, another location with great service. It was very busy in the restaurant and our waitress was able to serve multiple tables at once with no issues. She was young but seemed to this whole serving thing down pat. We revived our drinks and food in a timely manner. I also loved how the managers helped the servers when things were a little hectic. I usually order Momma's French Toast breakfast, but I wanted to try something different. After gazing through the menu I decided to order the County Fried Shrimp, which is a half-pound of buttermilk-battered shrimp and hush puppies served with tangy cocktail sauce. I selected Mac"N"Cheese, greens, and coleslaw for my sides. Plus made-from-scratch Buttermilk Biscuits. So good! The shrimp was cooked well and all the sides were good. Our server took our order and then never checked on us until 30 mins later and she made us repeat all our orders over again. She said the kitchen lost our order. She did bring us biscuits but it still took 30 more minutes to get our meal. 2 of the skillet meals wear cold. Recently received a Cracker Barrel Gift Card and used for Breakfast. These folks do a very good job with the fresh food and ingredients -like fruit, eggs, biscuits and more, especially for a chain. Our food today was great. Cracker Barrel has 650 locations, over $3B in sales, and started its expansion from the Southern Midwest back in the early 70's. Cracker Barrel has kept its authentic old country place feel with touches such as the working fire place, large open patios, boutique regional items, and much more. Not many large publicly traded companies work this hard to keep authenticity like this. My parents tell the story of enjoying pancakes for breakfast and then heading to the Airport but were unable to fit a Cracker Barrel pancake mix box in their luggage, so the manager offered to send them a complimentary one to their home. They are good! During our breakfast this morning we saw many locals dining including a solo diner proudly wearing his Eli Lilly retiree sweater, enjoying breakfast and his Sunday paper. Every Cracker Barrel server knew his name, and showered him with friendly chatter and refills for his coffee. Yes it's a chain but a really good one with locations strategically located just off the highway across the US - worth a stop especially if options aren't plentiful during your next road trip. read more
