I've enjoyed going to Cracker Barrel many times, and my expectations were high. Unfortunately, this visit was a disappointment. Hopefully I'll be at a Cracker Barrel again soon and can post a more positive review. The main disappointment was the steak someone else in my party ordered -- she ordered it medium rare, and it came out medium well -- almost well-done. She couldn't eat that, and we asked the server what they could do. They came back with another steak in a few minutes, but this one was very rare -- practically raw. It was hard to imagine that that was a good-faith effort to make a medium rare steak. By then she gave up and we took the raw steak home where someone re-cooked it with a good result. I had the Hashbrown Casserole Shepherd's Pie, which was new to me but sounded interesting. I've always been a fan of hashbrowns, and also of shepherd's pie. This was fine, but not what I was expecting. It was really more like a beef stew, with a crust on top. A meaty stew, with a few carrots & onions and lots of beef. Nothing wrong with it, but it didn't resemble any shepherd's pie I've had or made before. On the whole, not a great experience, but we'll be back again and hopefully this was just a one time occurrence. read more

We came to eat brunch here on a late Sunday morning and expected to have to wait, but surprisingly were seated right away. We got there around 11am, and were only given lunch/dinner menus, which was a little disappointing as weekend brunch is pretty popular, especially at this restaurant. Our waitress was able to get us a breakfast menu so we could see all of the breakfast options available. Our waitress was nice, but seemed a bit overwhelmed and was a little slower than the usual service we receive. She took a little longer to get drink refills and such, but they would eventually come. Our food came out in a timely manner and the order was accurate and hot. We did have other members of management come around and ask if things were going well and as expected, which was appreciated. read more

Deborah and I had a truly, delicious breakfast at Cracker Barrel Old Country Store Mechanicsville location. Ruby was so very pleasant, in serving us. we both ordered the Old timey Breakfast, Deborah had Fried over Easy Eggs, Sausage and Hash Brown casserole. I had Scrambled Eggs, Bacon and Fried Apples, we both had Biscuits. We got there just in time10:AM before the busy church crowd, we were seated right away and again Ruby was amazing great personality with us and those around that she served. We will ask for her next time we visit this location; it will allow us to get to know her more and vice-versa and help us to become regulars there. Food was very good! But the waitress barely payed attention to tables. Fanger nails were in the food when served to us and were not all that friendly . The person that was checking us out (paying for food) he was rubbing/picking his nose while checking us out and proceeded to touch everything without cleaning his hands. read more

Our server was Kaylin S. She seemed to ignore us the majority of the time and we had to flag her down. We had to ask for our biscuits three times before she brought it out. I asked for a refill on my drink and she never brought it even after stopping at the table 2 more times through our meal. My companion's meal came with biscuits and gravy, which was never brought to the table. Eventually she brought the check to the table without asking if we were ready and we had to have the front split our bill. The restaurant wasn't terribly busy and rather quiet. On my Cracker Barrel experience today my group of 5 friends asked for a table for 5. The extremely rude manager told us only groups of 2 and 4 are accepted. Have you ever heard that before?! We asked if we could pull up an extra chair and he said No! Another group behind us said they were a group of 4 and even though we now had a group of 4 he took them first because apparently we took too long. We sat at a table of 4 and our friend pulled up a chair. Our waiter (the only nice one here) said it was fine, but it was just a safety hazard for fires. I'm sorry but if I can't see the emergency exits, what's the problem with 5 people at a table. Went there around 7 on a Friday night and they were out of chicken and dumplings, pot roast, shepherd's pie, fried apples, broccoli, corn, carrots, mac and cheese, and even butter?! Our kind waitress was so apologetic even thought it wasn't her fault and brought out pancake butter for our biscuits. We ordered the only food left and were shocked by what came out--meatloaf was burnt, gravy was burnt so badly it was black and goopy, the turnip greens were cold. The visit here helped me come to a decision that I didn't even plan on having. I ordered the catfish with mac n cheese, a salad, and dumplings. The flavor of my food was perfect and I surprisingly enjoyed the mac n cheese. Everything was seasoned well, but I realized I don't like the texture of dumplings or the grilled catfish. So, next time I'll have to get the fried catfish without dumplings. The salad was so fresh and green, but DO NOT order their version of balsamic vinaigrette dressing. My friend ordered the Country Fried Turkey with Green Bean Casserole and Mac N Cheese. Her food was nice and flavorful also. A good comfort food meal, but despite that I didn't like the after taste of whatever the turkey was fried in. Reminded me of the chemicals I taste in the food I eat at some fast food places, but she enjoyed it and I guess that is all that matters since it was hers. arrived at 1135am placed my name with a young lady that had difficulty with my name to start with. repeated it twice she said I had a up to 30 min wait so ok. after 45 mins I asked when my granddaughter and I could expect to be seated seeing others going before us. the lady that was not at the desk that took my name looked and could not find it sage said she was sorry and would help asap. so we got seated 50 mins post arriving. we waited for 15 mins and the server said she had a 30 mins wait to get the food out I had a 5 yr old that was beyond wanting food at that time and now it was 12 55. I had to have her home for a party by 130 the server was very nice and got her pancakes to go and a drink which yes I paid for and left the lady a tip. i didn't get any food and I can assure you we will never be back at this Cracker Barrel again we will go to our usual at Glen Allen. read more

Can't believe I'm giving 5 stars to CB. Not that it's ever BAD, but I just never had anything memorable. OMG - you MUST try the shareable Beignet and Whote Cheddar Bites!! I wasn't expecting much, but my party of 5 ladies of pretty discriminating taste were raving about these shareables! The White Cheddar makes SUCH a better fried bite than the usual Mozz, and I have never had any donut that even holds a candle to those beignets ( served with chocolate and caramel dipping sauces)! It's a good country place where you can eat your breakfast, Sunday's family plan fits perfect, before our groceries we went there, eat as a family, and it was amazing, they follow all protocols they keep you safe, their food is pretty good. It's better to go early so you won't wait 30/40 minutes, before 8;00 am is a good time. Food and dinner service on 9/25/2024 was bad. We've given this location multiple opportunities but they continue to disappoint.

Unfortunately we ordered a pick up order and it took almost an hour. Two entrees. Usually this location is good. Not sure if they just don't care anymore. Blaming Covid isn't working anymore. If hiring is so bad close down. Every restaurant that is closed will be better than half rate service and food. I'd rather have nothing than this. One thing I like to do while I'm on my Annual Cross Country Road Trip is to stop in at Cracker Barrels in different states because we don't have one in or near San Diego CA. I stopped in this one. Consistently good, as all Cracker Barrels tend to be. I had the meatloaf lunch, which comes with three veggies. The meatloaf had a good flavor of onions. Nice texture that held together well. For the veggies, the carrots were a bit soggy and the green beans were too peppery and were also soggy. However the mac & cheese was fan-bloody-tastic. Greamy and tasty with a great zing of flavor. I think next time, I'll skip the veggies and meatloaf and just have this great mac & cheese. Yum. Good service. Great price. And as always, consistent. read more

This is one of our favorite places! Good food, friendly people and down home southern charm. With a roaring fireplace, glowing lanterns tableside and apple pie with ice cream to send you home, this place has you feeling like you're at Grandma's for dinner. Breakfast is offered all day (YAY!) and they have seasonal specials as well as daily specials, our favorites being Thursday Turkey Dinner (think Thanksgiving) and Sunday Home Style Chicken. Good ole' Cracker Barrel! This place is easily my favorite spot for breakfast on the weekend. It's almost always packed when I drive past it. I've been driving past this place for 7 years and it seems like the parking lot is always full. I only go for breakfast and I've always had the good fortune of getting great service. I'm not a frequent flyer by any means. Probably 6 times a year and that's about it. When I do go, the food is always good. Expect the grits. Those have been cold for 7 years. It's so sad that a southern style restaurant would leave those poor grits out in the cold. This place is a fat persons dream. Biscuits and gravy, perfectly cooked bacon, big ass pancakes, hashbrown casserole, eggs anyway you want them, country ham, and the list goes on. It's a good ole' boy breakfast and it hits the spot every time. I like it down and dirty and Cracker Barrel fits the bill. Get some. read more

I give them a 4 star on food. I give them a 1star on clean restrooms. The men's bathroom smells like a urine or piss pot and one of the stalls was so filthy you could not walk past the door into it. Had to wait for the other stall to open up to use. When washing my hands you look around the sinks you can tell that the bathroom has not been cleaned in a good while. I did address it with the general manager. She revealed to us that she was new at this location. It was her second or third day there. She said that she would look into it to make sure that it is taken care of. I hope that happens. read more

This place is an absolute joke. Do not put yourself through the aggravation of ordering food. We placed an order for 3 meals and my daughter went to pick it up. Asked for it at 12:45 (two days earlier) and at 2:00 it still was not ready (my daughter is far more patient than me). Store team never provided an update and the line for refunds was 30 people deep. During the lock down this store needs to just close the doors and wait it out. They are clearly not prepared to provide services under these conditions. Now we have to call our credit card company and dispute the payment to get our money back. Have enjoyed many meals at this store, and had much higher expectations for the management team. read more

My family and I visited this place on our trip to the beach. We had 7 of us and were seated pretty quickly and had our order taken after about 10 minutes. The problem started when it took over an hour to get our food. We had people coming, eating, and leaving before even getting our food. Half the table got their food and it wasn't u til another 15 minutes before the kids and I got ours. The plates were extremely hot but the food was cold which was indicative of food sitting in the server window. This place was unprofessional and lazy. Stay far away. read more

Comes with 3 sides. - Cracker Barrel Sampler: my personal favorite since you get a hearty sampling of sugar cured ham (my choice over the country ham), to-die-for meatloaf, and plate-licking chicken 'n dumplings. Comes with 3 sides as well. - Sides: faves include mac 'n cheese (simple but good), fried apples (not bad), country green beans (love the ham hock taste), breaded fried okra (Southern goodness). 2 of these bad boy dishes total up to $23 including tax and tip. What magic craziness is this? All of these come with an additional side of biscuits and/or cornbread. Although, the biscuit and cornbread aren't as delicious as they sound, the rest of the food was hearty and downright good. Service was friendly and our waters were constantly refilled.
