The food is barely edible after waiting an hour to eat . There is supposed to be a hostess in the front taking your name to wait for a table. She wasn't there when we walked in and we didn't see any sign saying check in here. We went to the back hosta station, and after standing in line for 20 minutes, was then directed to the front. Where we gave our names, and after waiting another 20 minutes, checked with the back hostess, who never received our names on the waitlist. The manager was kind and took care of us. Our waitress was fabulous, but clearly overworked, and in a huge rush to take our order and never bothered to ask us how the food was. Which was completely an edible. Pancakes were hard on one side and cold whatever glob of grease. they stuck on top was not butter because it never even melted. Scrambled eggs were hard and cold and flat like a pancake. Bacon was so greasy it was not edible. The sausage tasted spoiled and the ham was absolutely disgusting. It smelled putrid and had so much salt in it. You could not stomach the taste. If you come here, be prepared to feel like you were dying in a nursery with 1000 screaming kids all around you. Definitely will never return. read more

We visited on December 29 and expected it to be busy with a wait so I called ahead and was told to get on the wait list on their website. When I checked online it showed wait time as -0- and no waitlist available. We got there in 5 minutes and there was definitely a wait. Anyway, staff was wonderful and very attentive. We ordered right away as my son and his wife had to get to the airport soon. The food was very good and the prices were reasonable. First the positives: Our server Hope was excellent and attentive. She is a true asset to the restaurant. The food was decent. However the portions were extremely small compared to our favorite Cracker Barrel off of I-44 towards STL. This has to be a management thing. I have rarely given a 1-star rating to a restaurant for the quality of the food, but this one is definitely deserved. I'm giving this one star because it was a truly exceptionally bad meal. The service was fine, and I have no issue with the waitress or the cashier. I rarely eat at chain restaurants, and this is the 1st time I've eaten at Cracker Barrel in probably 5 to 10 years. I ordered the fried chicken meal with mashed potatoes and gravy and fried okra plus a buttermilk biscuit. I cannot say where the chicken was before it got to me, but it appears to have been fried twice: the batter was extremely dark and hard (NOT crispy, but hard), and the bottom of each piece of chicken was literally dripping oil. ALL of the bones in the chicken were leaking large amounts of black bone marrow, which made some portions of the chicken unsightly. I suspect the chicken was fried once earlier in the day, then set aside in a refrigerator (fingers crossed for luck) and fried a second time later in the day. The rapid speed with which the chicken got to me after I ordered it, and the fact that it was cool to the touch, means it definitely wasn't fried anywhere near the time that I ordered it. In addition, other than tasting of cooked vegetable oil, the breading on the chicken was flavorless. The mashed potatoes were cold in the center. I'm not saying they were cool in the center, I'm saying they were actually much colder than room temperature in the center Like the chicken, the buttermilk biscuits had obviously been sitting around for quite a while since they were baked. They were not even warm enough to melt the butter that I spread on them. The fried okra, however, was crisp and reasonably warm, though not hot. There are reasons that I generally avoid chain restaurants, and low quality of the food is primary among those reasons. The poor quality of the meal I had today at Cracker Barrel leads me to believe that repeat business is not one of their business goals, at least not at this location. read more

We ordered prime rib meal, horseradish sauce, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, carrots, yeast rolls. We were given a pick up time. We picked up within 5 minutes. We have never ordered such a meal. It was fabulous and we will have leftovers all week, even after sharing with my daughter. Ofallon hwy k location is the worst CB I've ever been to. The food quality was really bad.. The roast beef a gray pile of slop which turned out to be be gray fat with bits of meat. I've had loaded hashbrown casserole at other locations. Its just dry potato strips with bacon and cheese melted on top. Its not a casserole here. The biscuits and cornbread were super dry and tasteless. What happened to this location is sad because ive been to others that were great. Bathroom was filthy stopped up sink with standing dirty water broken soap dispenser with paper all over the floor and manager just hanging out chatting up the hostess and employees standing around doing nothing it was a sickening experience. I'm not a fan of Cracker Barrel, or their politics, but I was in this area for breakfast and had a less than stellar experience recently at the Denny's across the street so I gave it a go. I ordered the Old Timer's Breakfast (Two farm fresh eggs scrambled with colby cheese with grits and Hashbrown Casserole plus Thick-Sliced Bacon. Comes with All the Fixin's: Buttermilk Biscuits and real butter) and a hot tea. The bacon and the hash brown casserole were not hot but they were very good. The grits and the eggs were not hot and they were uneatable. The biscuits were a little heavy but a few bites of them with real butter wasn't bad. We've visited this location many many times and this is the first time I've ever had to write a review. My family of 5 visited there tonight and it was a major fail at the hostess station. When we first walked up, the hostess (short, blonde girl) and another employee with a tablet were at the stand. Not one of them acknowledged we were even standing there, along with another couple that were behind us for several moments. Then when she finally greeted us, my husband said our name about 6 times and she said something completely different than our name every time she repeated it. Even the couple behind us couldn't believe it. It wasn't loud or crowded either. After I stepped in and said it, she finally got it right. She never informed us of a wait time, so we wandered around the store for almost 45 minutes. After making it back to the stand, the hostess there again did not even look up to see us standing there. A server came to the stand and the hostess asked her if she (blue shirt, black bandanna around her head) wanted a table of 5 or 6 and she said she wanted neither of them. Hubby walked up closer and asked how much longer of a wait. The woman with the tablet said they were just waiting for a table to be bussed, walked into dining room, came back and said nothing while looking at the tablet. Hostess just stood there with her phone out. No one said a word about the table being cleaned, or "sorry about that, it'll be X amount of minutes and your table will be ready" nothing! Just on her phone or the tablet. We walked out. But saw the retail manager on the way out, told him about how the hostess needs help and why. He immediately got on his headset and said something about it and how we were leaving. Seriously, he was the only one there that even acted like he cared. Your staff needs some serious training on customer service. I've worked in restaurants, front of the house, back of the house and management and I've NEVER worked in a place like that. This is the 3rd time and last for going to cracker barrel . We placed an order for 3 meals and when they came we only received 2 meals. I ordered the fish meal with four pieces of fish. So the food was cold, the fries were not fully cooked. I had to put them in the air fryer to finish them. The fish was 90% breading and to give an idea, 1 McDonald's mcnugget has more meat than 2 of crackerbarrels fish filets. $18+ for crap. You would be better of getting frozen fish from the grocery store. You would actually get some fish with them. So the missing order was delivered in the mean time and yes, you guessed right, it was cold as well. Cracker barrel should give up delivery services because they continue to fail miserably at delivering quality food. The most recent visits have been fairly pleasant. The food seems pretty consistent. I order my eggs over medium and they are perfect nearly every time. They have great pancakes and the apple butter is always spectacular. I absolutely love that this location is smoke-free. It makes the wait times shorter and the whole environment feels cleaner. The Sunrise Sampler is my husband's go to. I try to stick to something a little lighter, so I got the Old Timer Breakfast with Turkey Sausage. Everything was great! I have been visiting a close friend in St Louis who was in a motorcycle accident a month ago and is now paralyzed from the waist down. For more than a month i have been driving in from KC to see her. I did not want her to be alone for Thanksgiving as she has no immediate family alive. I have always loved Cracker Barrel's turkey dinner. I even called the week before Thanksgiving to ask several stores if I could place a pre-order for our 2 take out meals. I was told to call back or come in at 11am on Thanksgiving Day. I was at this location at exactly 11am and asked to place my order. I was told by a very terse woman that they are "sold out" of turkey dinners. I asked how that was possible considering it was only 11am. She said they had Turkey dinners but only for people dining in the restaurant. I asked, "So you have all the food to make a dinner, but you won't put it in a box?" She, again very put off at my questioning of her reasoning, simply said "no." I left almost the mind to go back, ask for a table for one order 2 dinners and 2 boxes for all my "leftovers" so I can bring my newly paralyzed friend Thanksgiving dinner. I didn't because I saw a Denny's across the street. I drove over there was greeted with smiles and welcomed and placed my order. Within 10 mins I had my dinners and was on my way to the rehab facility. Shame in you Cracker Barrel for calling yourself a family restaurant and making what can be an emotional day for someone who doesn't have family more difficult by being just plain mean. read more

I have heard about Cracker Barrel through many friends and I was always so bummed that we don't have one in Southern California. So, when my boyfriend and I were driving through O'Fallon, MO to visit family and I spotted one, I immediately said we had to go there for lunch!! We stopped in around 4pm for an early dinner and were seated immediately. The hostess didn't seem too happy but it was fine. I was so excited to see all these dishes I had heard so much about and decided on Chicken Fried Steak with Cheese Grits, Sweet Potato and Green Beans on the side. I couldn't believe how affordable everything was for the amount of food we were getting! My boyfriend ordered Chicken and Dumplings with Mac N Cheese and Green Beans. Both dishes came with biscuits which were amazing; you didn't even need to put butter on them! The portions were generous but not too huge where we couldn't finish everything. It was everything I thought it would be...except for the grits- they definitely weren't my cup of tea. Aside from the food, each table had small games on it that were really cute and of course, I had to stop in the shop which had lots of cute knick knacks and candy. This was our first visit to CB and O'Fallon, MO and was excited to experience breakfast. Unfortunately, my breakfast was not very good. My eggs were luke wam the grits lumpy and cold and my pork chop was dry and flavorless. At least the hash brown casserole was tasty. I tried the fried apples and they were tasty. My husband had the breakfast sampler, and said the ham was salty and the thick sliced bacon was like normal bacon. On a positive note, the service was efficient and Leo our server was attentive. This post is about Laura the waitress. When we arrived at Cracker Barrel I asked if they had French vanilla creamer and the waitresses stated they only had half and half as she walked away. When she came to take our order I asked if they had sausage links instead of patties. She scuffed and said "you should know that". The person I was with asked if she could switch the coffee out because it was cold. She didn't acknowledge anything and came back about 5 mins later to switch it out. Towards the end of the meal I asked if I could have a water and she scuffed again. When she brought the water to the table I asked if there was a specific reason why she was being rude. She yelled "you deserve it because YOU asked too many questions and YOU sit here and complain that the coffee is cold. I told her I wasn't being rude nor was I the one that complained about the coffee. She then again stated YOU DESERVE IT. What I think she meant was I was the one that deserved it because I was the only Hispanic at the table. She took out all her job frustration on me. Stated she comes in early, leaves late, and keeps that place afloat and the last thing she needs is someone complaining about cold coffee. When she said I deserved it she said "welcome to it". I asked to speak to the manager and she said "gladly". When the manager came out, I asked if she could bring the waitress over so we could address the issues. When the manager asked her to come to the table she yelled (in the dining hall) "I'm not going back to that table" she absolutely refused to provide any more service to us. When we asked her for a coffee refill she once again refused to come to the table and when we asked again for coffee she said "I heard you the first time" but never acknowledge she heard us nor did she ever bring coffee out, instead she sent a different waitress out. She showed complete disrespect to us and complete disrespect to her manager. She refused to provide any more service. read more

Food wise, this is the best restaurant I have ever been to. I say food wise because some parts of this place are a little strange. Who knew that while you were going to the hostest you would run into some old dude shopping for some Christmas gifts. None the less there aren't too many problems regarding the atmosphere. The food on the other hand is the best in the world. And yes, I said In the world. The breakfast and dinner is absolutely amazing. From pancakes and eggs to steak and carrots you cannot beat this place. The most flavorful steak resides at Cracker Barrel and who would of thought. My personal favorite are the carrots. Simply the best thing I have ever put in my mouth are Cracker Barrel carrots. When you eat them you get the same feeling as: Winning a sports game, Getting a raise at your job, or getting a good stock tip. What was I talking about again, oh right Cracker Barrel. Not as good of service/food this go round. I ordered the homestyle chicken with white gravy. It wasn't until the food arrived at the table, which took a longer time than normal and was apologized for, was it then told me that they were out of white gravy. They also we're not making any more white gravy even though it was 8 o'clock on a Saturday night. I would have completely change my order had I known that prior to. Our server was very apologetic and very accommodating on trying to get me something else. However I was surprised that a manager did not come to the table to check on us, especially when I decided not to order anything. By the time I would've received my food my family would've already been finished eating. Cracker Barrel as an enterprise has lost its luster. I used to frequent stores at least once a month for breakfast or dinner. Last night's experience is the reason that it has become a last resort destination. A new waitress not withstanding, waited 25 minutes after seating for arrival of order. When order arrived, it had evidently spent considerable time in the kitchen before it was served (I believe the sides were plated early because the entree was hot) the sides were barely warm and the surface of each dish had a crusty film covering it. Rather than traumatize a new waitress, I asked for a To go box & heated my meal at home (I live nearby). Not sure when or if I'll be back. read more

I love CB but was VERY disappointed this time when I went there. I ordered the chicken and dumplings and 3 sides. To my dismay the carrots and Mac n cheese that I ordered as a side was put in the same bowl as my chicken&dumpling. So I had carrot juice through my entire meal. My hash brown casserole was in a separate bowl. I asked waitress why everything was in one bowl and was told because they were short dish washers and staff. IF I GO BACK I definitely will NOT accept my food all running together. I'm not a picky person but this was awful. Got to register to check out only to see a sign saying they are NOT accepting gift cards. This should be posted on doors when you walk in not at register where you are going to check out. Got the dumplings and still don't know what they are, except that they are heavy, slimy and incredibly satisfying ( in a weird way ). I am 51 years old and right now the youngest person here. Except for the young woman feeding Methuselah a few tables away... My waitress is sweet. College student or young wife? I can't tell. She keeps bringing me sodas and smiling so that's ok. Man those dumplings were heavy... Potato soup was creamy and hot and she forgot to add it to the bill. She's still smiling and sweet so...oh another soda! Why thank you just put it there next to the other 2 full glasses. I'm NOT complaining!!! I like soda. Dessert? No thanks I'm still feeling those dumplings. I don't know if it's good or not. Was wanting some "comfort" food after not feeling good all day. I ordered chicken fried chicken (boneless white chicken breast) mashed potatoes, carrots and biscuits. Husband got fried chicken. Expected to wait due to the fried chicken. Within about 6 minutes the food was at our table. I cut into my chicken and took a bite. Immediately thought it had a funny taste. Cut more pieces to find a brownish layer between the chicken and breading. Took a small amount on my knife and it was slimy. Carrots were dry and the biscuits weren't at all browned and had flour all over the top. After FINALLY finding our waitress she sent over the manager, showed him the issue I which he replied "Hmmm". He did bring another dinner, which was good and paid for my meal ( which I was really looking for, just wanted a good hot meal). He said he thought it was gristle Oh yeah, my husband wanted baked beans and corn on the cob as his sides, which they were out of both . And he ordered sourdough toast which they only toasted on one side How is that possible? We eat here from time to time, love the comfort foods. Our favorite time is during the colder weather when the fire place is lit and it's all cozy inside. I always enjoy looking in their store, they have many interesting and unique items you can't find elsewhere. For about $12 including drink, I had a great meal the other night of Chicken & Dumplings with three side dishes, and corn muffins. Was all served to me in less then 5 minutes after I ordered. Arrived hot and tasty. I like the Cranberry Apple Ice Tea they have available right now as a seasonable item.
