While traveling back home from Arkansas, we decided to stop in Birmingham. Weren't too hungry and definetly didn't want any more fast food. Cracker Barrel was super close to our hotel so we walked over. This must be a location that hald already gone through the remodel as it didn't seem as "cluttered" with decor as the old version. It also wasn't remodeled to the point that it looked like an entirely different restaurant, either. We were seated quickly as there was no wait when we arrived. We were greeted by the manager as we were escorted to our table. Alex H., our waiter, wasn't far behind. It may have been one of his first days by himself as he seemed a little hesitant... but then again, the manager was stoking the fire right near him... so maybe he was just nervous. Alex did a great job. Our orders were brought fairly quickly, including the ever elusive Broccoli cheese casserole. The portions were perfect for us that day (they seemed smaller than normal but we weren't starving anyway.) He very politely handed them to us plate by plate and came back twice to check that everything was well. I HAVE to mention that Alex even used proper English which isn't common in daily conversation. More often than not, people choose to use slang. This is likely one of the best visits to Cracker Barrel that we've had in a long time. Alex should be promoted to a peer trainer! That would definitely improve the perception of the Barrel! read more

We went there last night. We were very disappointed. The waiter that would have been assigned our table couldn't keep his pants up. He was constantly pulling them up from the back. So we requested another server. My husband ordered meatloaf. When it came to the table, it was so dry that it looked like a burnt sponge. We called our sweet waitress over and explained that we were not going to eat it. Her response was I knew there was going to be a problem. In which I didn't appreciate that comment. So we sent the whole plate back and told her to take it off our bill. She did. Not one manager came to our table to check on us. Needless to say we were quite disappointed in the food and the cleanliness of the staff. His hands were down in the back of his pants. Please get a belt, it does help to keep your pants up. I love Cracker Barrel my favorite dish is grilled chicken fingers, Mac and cheese, and okra. I love the biscuits also obviously. I have mostly always had perfect experiences at Pell City CB. They have great staff and very friendly. Typically no/short wait time. Food is fresh and good. I really recommend this CB to anyone. read more

ordered meatloaf. When it came out, one look at it and it was clear this meatloaf had been sitting around for a while. Even the waitress made a comment on how bad it looked before she sat the plate down in front of me. My wife and I couldn't believe the chef/cook sent this to a table. I had my meal taken off of the bill. We eat here a lot and this is the first time I have had bad food. This food did rank as bad. I always found that Cracker Barrel is a place you can depend on their food. However, I was disappointed when I stopped in here for dinner recently. I opted for a veggie plate. I chose cheese and macaroni, green beans, carrots and broccoli. I've always found their green beans to be tasty but not this time. The whole plate was pretty bland. Got the made to order breakfast with scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, hash brown casserole and bacon. When my food came out, the bacon was barely cooked so I asked the server if I could have it cooked to crispy. Meanwhile, I took a bite out of the biscuit and gravy and both were lukewarm at best. The scrambled eggs appeared to have been whisked just a smidge, poured over the flat top and cooked much like a pancake. They were presented on my plate looking rolled like a burrito. My bacon returned to me tasting as if they put it in the fryer with oil taste and looking quite odd. This experience was not good. I wasted my money today. I accidentally left my cell at home on the charger so I would love to be able to include pics. Think I'll go to Waffle House from now on. They make wonderful scrambled eggs. read more

I would like to say that this is the worst we have ever had at any Cracker Barrel, in any state . The quality and the service by both management & server was terrible. The computer was down so they pretty much acted like our business wasn't appreciated. We did stay, much to their dismay. The server made some terrible mistakes in our order and never apologized or tried to make it right. For all the years they had it right, I appreciated it. Cracker Barrels are not all alike, despite the same refrigerator truck making stops at each. This one is only a few miles from the Oxford Cracker Barrel but there was no waiting here in Pell City. Waitress was efficient and nice. The trout was the same as all Cracker Barrels, great. read more

Was there for lunch today. Ashlyn was our server. To the manager, I used to waitress - this girl needs more training. My husband ordered first, I was going to get fried catfish, but when was asking she tell cook to make sure fish cooked throughout- she says " oh, u want well done" to that I said no, just make sure cooked throughout, was going to say more when interrupted by her again insisting I wanted well done. To keep from losing it, told her to go place husband's order & come back with biscuits & apple butter. She comes back - empty handed, " r u ready now". I ordered the lemon pepper trout with fry & salad. She blurts out " salad is ---- extra!" I said same time as husband " I do not care" never brings biscuits until food. 2 biscuits, no butter, jelly, or apple butter! My plate has fish - no fry's, then salad. Had asked for extra napkins, so now just get up go to kitchen door until another waitress shows up-explain need napkins, fry's, apple butter, could use couple more biscuits as well. Our waitress never showed again. I ran out of drink. Never showed. At end had to flag her down for ticket & go box for husband. This was my first visit to a Cracker Barrel. There was nothing about this visit or location that stood out as anything besides "meh, I've experienced better." We came in for a late lunch on a Tuesday. The location wasn't busy, and we were seated quickly. It took a while to get service. We each had coffee, and to get a refill we had to ask several times. The waitress was nice enough, but it was obvious she was overworked (even though there were only a few tabled seated at the time). After talking to others here, this apparently wasn't uncommon for this location. PROPS: Large menu, and large restaurant build out. Lots of unique antiques on the walls. I'm not even sure if 1 star is acceptable for this experience. My boyfriend and I had just moved up here from Florida, so we thought we'd give one of our classic favorite restaurants a try. Right off the bat there were only a few couples in the whole restaurant, which should have told us something. So I ordered a Dr Pepper, but got a coke instead. It's not that big of a deal, but we also ordered biscuits with our meals, and those were completely forgotten. When brought to the attention of our waiter, he had a very unapologetic tone and asked us if "we even still wanted them." Not to mention I immediately picked out 2 brown hairs out of my Mac n cheese and my steak. I have BLONDE hair. To top it off my boyfriend had ordered their new strawberry mimosa, to only get a half full glass and a tiny bit of champagne in a bottle that he had to mix himself. This was just absolutely so confusing and no where did anyone or anything mention that it was served like this. Eventually after all of our minor, simple complaints, our waiter, Lyndon, had the manager sent out. Even he seemed like he just didn't care, and when asked if we could take it off of our bill because even the quality of the drink wasn't up to par, all he said was, "well we're just gonna dump it.." I love walking into Cracker Barrel - memories of my mom and I stopping along the road to eat when traveling to see family in other states. The Cracker Barrel in Pell City is the same as the others upon walking through those doors. The sound, the things for sale, the things on deep discount. AND THEN.. The hostess was a sweet young lady who greeted my friend and I with a smile, asked how many in our party, and walked us to our table. Our waitress, Mikaela, was equally as friendly. She got everything right, our drinks were never empty, she had a good attitude, and she received a good tip! I ordered the chicken livers which didn't taste like chicken livers, but they were still fresh & edible. The turnip greens & hashbrown casserole were yummy as always. The cornbread wasn't as hot as I would have liked it, wouldn't melt butter unfortunately. The rest of the food was excellent - my friend tore into his chicken fried steak, fresh coleslaw, and mashed potatoes. Waitress was sweet, but service was slow! Finally got our food. My chicken tenders were hard and mostly crust. Baked potato had been cooked for quite some time. Carrots semi mushy. We have tried time and time again. The service is mediocre at best and the kitchen is worse. My husband and I ordered the same thing everytime we come here, and everytime it's wrong. We have spoken to the managers and they seem clueless to the issues. One of them actually said "I just got here, I don't know what's going on. I just work here". Exactly our point! YOU'RE THE MANAGER. Take responsibility for your restaurant. I have found hair in my food on TWO different occasions. It's just disappointing. Pell City doesn't have many restaurants. I eat at Cracker Barrel's all over. Pell City's Alabsma the most. They have supper nice managers. I give Scott and Marshall a A plus rating. I sure miss one of their managers at the Pell City location but since he transferred to Moody Alabama I still go there to eat as we'll. Pell City's store is super clean and for the majority all the waiters and waitress are very friendly and have a wonderful personalites. Love me some good country food at Cracker barrel's especially in Pell City Alabama.
