My family really likes Cracklin Jacks. Music is typically pretty good. Love sitting outside in the open air. Don't like it when there are people smoking outside though. We had 8 people in our group and had great service and food. Gator bites and the Grouper bites were excellent. Pulled pork was perfect and the Grouper sandwich both fried and broiled were great. The corn muffins were good, but a little too much chunky corn for my taste. The Cajun shrimp got very good reviews ... especially the Spicy Andouille sausage that came with it. The catfish had a great batter and farm feed fish was not a strong as some catfish. The french fries were more like thick potato chips. Just ordered food which my kids and I hate to be disappointed. Brisket came out super dry and the young man snatched it from my hands to just "add" watered down juice to it.. Then the supposed "Owner" which was not it but I at this point let it go said "give me 5 mins I will cook you up some good brisket " lmao. It takes hours to make it not 5 mins. Then my kids didnt tell me till we got home they didnt get there fries with there meals. Such a shame since I loved this place but was devastated by lack of customer service, empathy, food quality and people who work there dont lie to customers. Wish I took before and after pics cause I got the same "dry meat with au ju" sauce and still dry as desert storm. But also its pathetic that a young man would come out as the owner and give me the same thing that I gave back and saying he "cooked" it himself like i am uneducated. Such a damn shame. Nothing close to what it used to be. All the fried foods have the same basic breading! The service is so-so! Takes forever to get a waiter or waitress to come to your table. Don't go if you're hungry, it takes forever! People who walked in after us got their orders taken and served before our group was! The food isn't terribly bad but prefer to not to spend our money on just basic food when there are much better places to eat! I was part of a group of 3 that went for dinner. My brother had the fried chicken w/collard greens & mashed potatoes, his girlfriend had the liver w/onions dish along with collard greens & coleslaw- both were happy with both taste & size of portions. I had the catfish along with collar greens & white beans. Unfortunately the catfish was overcooked and the coating a bit too crunchy for my taste which was disappointing. Both of my sides were tasty & the hush puppies excellent. Our waitress was very friendly & attentive, she did a great job! My picky family of 5 just ate the most delicious meal at Cracklin Jack's. The chicken tenders are real cut chicken, not frozen. I had the baby back ribs and they were meaty, tasty and fall off the bone tender. Everything was so good. We had the blackened shrimp, gator bites, grouper nuggets, fried shrimp, French fries, dirty rice, onion rings, collard greens. It's ok K to want to make your investment back, but all at once. The Scallops went from $24 to $37. Seriously. You are going to fall flat after season. Residents won't pay that. We went for a good southern dinner. It happened to be the end of the dinner shift which we didn't know when we walked in. The place was buzzing. I ordered country fried pork, and my partner ordered a ribeye steak. The white gravey for the mashed potatoes was runny like water. I couldn't even cut my pork with a knife, I had to pull it apart with my fingers. Now my dinner was $20 & the steak was $39.00! Full of fat and grizzle. Our bill came to $87.00, including the tip. The native was raving about this place as where the locals go to eat, and has been talking about thisnplace for a few days. We finally made it to the place as our final dinner with the family folks before we head back up north. We must have hit a b game night on a wednesday night. They apparently could only accommodate our party of 11 outside on the patio that night. First off... our hushpuppies made it to the other end of the table (i got up and had inquired if he got the order, his response was that order was probably mine but the others at the table ordered some after we did so more were on thr way.). The hush puppies didnt end up to the table till after our maincourse showed up. We asked for two sets of the side dishes (apparently it comes family style, but with 11 people sharing little dish.. its a bit to travel and not enough for anyone), and those didnt show up till after the main dish showed up also. They didnt give my son a spoon to eat his applesauce... the clams were.. very sandy The plus. The kids chicken tender order is huge and pretty juicy (bonus it is served on a frisbee so you get a souvenir). We got to try gator. The salad was huge and looked delicious! The grouper was good. The sausagr anf shrimp was good (spicier than i expected). Portions are huge. The butter for hush puppies was really good, and i actually tried itnon the family style corn bread. I really was excited to take 4 of us. We were excited to try the Gator bites and al the other well reviewed food. Our server came over welcomed us and took our drink, app order, and food order. Unfortunately, that was the last time we saw her! Gator bites never showed and drinks had to be ordered from the bar and paid separately. After 30 minutes our food came and it was excellent. We had to stop a bus boy to get someone to give us a bill so we could pay and leave. This could have been a great hangout place and one I was hoping I could repeat. This time under new management took 45 minutes to get first order and then it came out wrong, they take back and second order was Luke warm, the French fries were slivers of potatoes ok fine but Luke warm as well. I like my food hot. Spoke to manager and she was as rude as the person seating you. Waitress was just out of rehab (good for her god bless her) and serving alcohol She was new, then she would not come back to see if we needed anymore drinks. When I first arrived I almost turned around and left! The dining room is pretty drab, but we decided to go outside to the back patio- that's the spot! For this kind of restaurant experience Cracklin Jacks can't be beat- the beer is cold and they give you cozies to keep it thus. Really enjoyed the frog legs. Flavor was extra tasty. This Restaurant should be called Taste of the Everglades. The alligator is very good also. I've been looking for a place that does good fried chicken and it looks like I found it here at Crackling Jacks. We went on a Monday for Bingo but it was canceled. I used to like this place. If you go, avoid Kristynne at all costs. The most loud, rude individual I've ever met in the south. I made the mistake of visiting the facilities while my table was placing their drink order. When I sat at our table Kristynne was serving a party seated at a booth which was seated nearly at the same time. As Kristynne was walking away from the second table, a member of my party approached her to request that she add a Sauvignon Blanc (for me) to our table's drink order. Her response was to loudly exclaim, "Excuse me- EXCUSE ME, I'm helping this table, I will be back, PLEASE SIT." We all saw her walking away from the second table and down the stairs, when the member of my party apologized and mentioned he saw her walking away she said "No, no, I was helping this other table." The worst part is that she would dare insult us by lying. She was walking away...so much for trying to save her a few steps.
