Craving Crab Haus gets a lot of exposure on Social Media and I feel as much attention it gets, it does not nearly show you what they have to offer. There are so many great options, whether you want to do by-the-pound seafood, AYCE (all you can eat) or simply stop by for a few drinks and some bar food and hangout, there is something for you here. They also have to-to orders, catering services and can accommodate large parties of up to 30 on their patio or up to 80 inside. Located at the University Square near UC Riverside, For the AYCE, come hungry as you order by the pound with four main options (jumbo shrimp with shell & head, clams, crawfish and premium black muscles) and two premium options (peeled shrimp and New Zealand green muscles for +$3.95/lbs each). Snow crab legs or lobster tail are an additional charge. Each round comes with options for a side corn, egg, potatoes or rice. There are sides that are heavily discounted such as French fries, Cajun street corn, Cajun edamame, sausage and Texas Toast. There are 5 flavors to choose from (The Whole-Sha-Bang is my favorite) that can be served at 5 spice levels ranging from non spicy to extra spicy. The maximum per round is two pounds of whatever floats your fancy and each additional order you can go for a pound or 2 pounds of seafood. Per person, its $39.95 and kids under 8 are $16.95. Bonus- there's an all you can drink of Haus Cocktails for $19.95. Do not be greedy as there is a service charge for excessive leftovers. If you feel like you're slowing down, do it a pound at a time instead of ordering 2 pounds. Note- everyone on the table MUST do AYCE if anyone is doing the AYCE. This eliminates those "sharing" or "sampling" from their table mates who are not doing AYCE. Also, the AYCE is Monday - Thursday 1-8:30pm and Friday from 12noon - 4pm. This option in not available during the weekends or Friday evenings. For those wanting to go a little lighter or if you want something specific, you can go by the pound for as much (or as little) and create your own seafood boil. Select the seafood you want, select your add-ons, select your seasoning and select your spice level. You can order as much for yourself or for however many in your party to share or split. Prices vary based on market price and the seafood selected. There is a selection of appetizers, The Ultimate Sack of seafood boil (with a HUGE selection of seafood that serves 4-6 people), pastas, wings in a half dozen of seasonings available, and dessert. Let's not forget the full service bar with beers on tap, bottled beers, drink specials and their home-made michelada. The owner laments to me that he's glad people come for and love the seafood but he built and stocked a really nice bar that he wished more people would hang out on that side too. I like to come on the weekdays when there is a live sporting event on. There are TVs everywhere and you can ask them to put on a game, tournament, race or competition that is on. My last visit to Craving Crab Haus was a bit disappointing. I ordered the snow crab clusters and New Zealand Mussels, with two sides of corn. The snow clusters were much smaller than what I can be purchased at a grocery store. The meat was very difficult to extract, and having growing up catching and cooking crab, this one was over heated in the process (NOTE: snow crab purchased from wholesalers are already precooked, therefore only needs reheating.) For the price of $38.00 for the snow crab it is not worth it. The corn was too starchy and not sweet, which indicates the corn past its ideal harvest time, and the mussels were overcooked making them tough to eat. The service was fair this time as I was only one of three customers during my visit. Ambience was still cute, but the lighting was poor. My previous visits were way better. At that time, they garnered a five star from me. This is the first time I've ever been disappointed. Total bill with a soft drink was $84.00. It wasn't worth the price considering the overall experience. I will need to get my crab fix elsewhere closer to home in Los Angeles instead of when I am in Riverside for classes. read more

I absolutely love this place. During the week they have an AYCE deal and it's just fantastic. Their sauce is just so flavorful and made with the prefect consistency. Their seafood is always so fresh and clean. The service is fast and friendly and the interior is well kept. You will be charged for over ordering since you can't take left overs home, so don't bite off more than you can eat. The one thing I will say positive is that they are up front with their "tipping policy". It isn't an option, just a mandatory 18%....at that point, just raise your prices. Admittedly this policy is for "large" parties, but I have four kids, two of which are small and don't eat much and my wife was fasting. Even after explaining that to them, they said it didn't matter as the policy is "by the head". My wife was even considering waiting in the car since she wasn't eating anyway. I'm not sure when tipping became mandatory, particularly since I don't even know what kind of service or quality of food I'll be getting, but perhaps we should consider renaming it to mandatory instead of gratuity. Ultimately we choose to take our business elsewhere so I cannot speak to the quality of the food. There are a lot of other options nearby though with better reviews. UPDATE TO RESPOND TO MANAGEMENT: You guys were indeed transparent. In addition to transparency, you are also very rigid and not understanding. Lastly, you cannot take responsibility for anything it seems as every low review you have is never your fault and the fault is always on the customer. I'll do fairness to me however no one actually communicated that as far as the staff goes I got two very small clusters of crab legs with corn and a Pepsi, which after everything was about $60 I was hoping that I would get more crab legs at least when I explained to the manager that this was my first time at this location and I really was hoping for a genuine all-you-can-eat experience and that no one communicated to me. When the server brought out he said "Cod" I immediately said I ordered catfish. He said oh yeah catfish. It was obvious that it was caught so I asked my server. Was this card or catfish? She said oh it's catfish. I told her lady I'm from Mississippi. This is not catfish.. Food was decent however I got a bag and no gloves bibs scissors or crack thing was given. I literally waited asked for it and waited. Waited more raided my hand seen my waitress zoom by multiple times so I proceed to walk to the front to get my own. My juice was starting to get stiff so you know it's cooling down. I feel like the kinda cramped in as many tables as possible so it feels very cluttered. The light was a little too dim we used phone light to read the menu. FOR THE FINALE!!!!! I visited this establishment on Dec 24th (Christmas Eve) and ordered right before last call on my way to Big Bear from San Diego. That was definitely my mistake and I take full responsibility. I ordered a pound of crab legs, corn, potatoes and sausage and a lemonade. The BEST part of the order was the lemonade. The corn was ok, I could've broken a tooth biting into the potatoes, the sausage disintegrated in my mouth because it was cooked/boiled for too long. Last but not least the crab legs were not edible because they were covered in a greenish/black substance that could be barnacles, mold or signs of freezer burn. Either way that made them not edible. I threw the bag out after taking pictures. I contacted management today Dec 26 when I got home from Big Bear and they told me I would have needed to KEEP THE BAG OF SPOILED FOOD ( keep in mind my hotel room had no refrigerator) and give it back to them to get a full refund. I assured them I had pictures and had proof of purchase because I also took a picture of the receipt. They still refused to refund me for something that was THEIR fault. That is a horrible policy especially when dealing with something as delicate as seafood. 0/10. I will be disputing this charge with my bank and their horrible customer service just made it easier. *** Update: In order to do damage control I'm being accused of eating majority of my order. Not only is that untrue, you can see NO crab legs are broken open and the bag is still full. I took a single bite of one potato and one piece of corn and ate one piece of sausage before I moved onto the crab legs which I immediately saw had those markings. That is why the leg is detached, not because I ate it. This establishments inability to take responsibility and also accuse me of fraud is even more reason why you should not eat here. Got the garlic butter sauce with 2 lbs snow crab legs 1lb shrimps Quartered Potatoes 4 pcs Corn on a cob Plus a whole dungeness crab and steamed rice !!!! Cravin Crab Haus is officially one of my FAVORITE spots! The food is beyond good -- rich, flavorful, savory, and honestly unforgettable. The Happy Hour is just as amazing (yes, even on a Sunday ), and the waitresses are always so kind and welcoming, which makes the whole experience that much better. The restaurant itself has kind of a dark vibe, and the foam in the windows is a little odd, but the décor totally fits the seafood boil theme. The bar setup and light fixtures are super cool and definitely add to the atmosphere. If I had to nitpick, I'd say a little more space in the seating and walkways would make it even better -- but it's nothing that keeps me from coming back. My ultimate recommendation? Get the boil with the Whole Shabang Bang sauce, and don't skip the garlic toast. The best part is dipping that toast in the leftover sauce after you've worked your way through all the meats in the boil. Total game-changer. The shrimp and pan roast were decent, but everything else -- especially the fries and calamari -- was bland, flavorless, and clearly thrown together without care. The service? Practically nonexistent. We were checked on once, left with empty cups the entire meal, and no one ever bothered to ask if we needed anything. Despite that, they still added an automatic gratuity. Their website says it's for parties of 8 or more, but their in-store policy says 6. That's a shady inconsistency, and I can only assume it's intentional. And here's the kicker: the automatic gratuity feels like a free pass for staff to do the bare minimum -- or less. Why bother giving decent service when the tip is guaranteed? That's exactly what happened. Zero effort, zero care, yet still collecting a tip like they earned it. To make things worse, our server brought the wrong drink (strawberry lemonade instead of regular), corrected it, but left the wrong one sitting on the table. Since no one ever came back and we were left with empty cups, my sibling took a sip out of sheer thirst. When the bill came, we were charged for the drink we never ordered. I told the server, and she said she'd remove it -- then came back and said she couldn't because it had been sipped. Are you kidding me? It was your mistake, your neglect, and somehow we're paying for it? Bottom line: Craving Crab is the kind of place where mediocre food meets lazy service -- and they still expect a tip.
