My son opted for the fried grouper cheeks for an appetizer, while my husband and I shared a bowl of lobster bisque . Delicious start! Our group ordered a fried grouper sandwich, a blackened grouper sandwich, and a blackened catfish po boy. Everyone agreed that it was an amazing meal. St Paul Fish Company somehow manages to serve high quality food in large quantities at reasonable prices. With a lot of variety and friendly service, this definitely is a great go-to place. My Mom and I came here for a light dinner and ordered the crab cake and mussels appetizers as our entrees. Thinking that wouldn't be enough food, we added the arugula beet salad. Everything came out pretty quickly, and the mussels portion and salad were enormous. Each dish was excellent. The mussels, a recommendation by our helpful server, were especially good - the mussels were cooked perfectly, without an unopened mussel in the bunch, and the white wine-garlic-fennel broth was seasoned well and had the classic flavor I was hoping for. The only miss was that the bread provided was only barely toasted and a little chewy. The salad was a wonderful surprise: dressed properly with a nice vinaigrette, it had toasted pepitas, creamy goat cheese, fennel, and beets that were not overly earthy. My Mom enjoyed her crab cakes, which had a bit of a spicy kick. I wanted a little dessert and chose their Door County cherry ice cream. I would strongly recommend leaving room for it. It had a fantastic, creamy texture, tasting homemade. The ice cream itself had a natural flavor of almonds with a hint of cherry, was studded with dark chocolate and cherry pieces, and topped with a cute fish-shaped cookie. One of the best ice creams I've had. Like the food portions, it came as three big scoops, so it's good for sharing. The atmosphere is casual and fun, though be prepared for a pretty high noise level when it's full - not from music, but from everyone having a great time with friends and family. Two of us ordered fish entrees, Pan-fried Walleye and Crabcakes with a side of fries. The wait staff was excellent and the food gets a varied rating. The Pan-fried Walleye was excellent, the sauteed Zuchinni good, but not exciting. The two crabcakes were dried up and the fries were dry and oversalted. Bad. I asked to try a sample of the so-called Door County Cherry Ice Cream supplied by Purple Door. It tastes just like Kroger's new version of the same thing which is like Maraschino Cherry. Very bad. We had heard good things so my boyfriend was excited to book us a reservation for date night. Our waiter was very attentive and friendly and gave us great recommendations (don't sleep on the salmon crack). We got the seafood boil and it was so much food for the two of us! We couldn't even finish our crab cakes. I loved all the options it came with and the corn and seasoning were delicious. We also ended up taking advantage of the fish counter and got swordfish steak for dinner the next day and we liked the crab cakes so much we got more to bake at home. We were seated promptly, and within a minute or so our waiter introduced himself. Since we'd already looked at the menu, we placed our order right away. We all started with a cup of clam chowder. It came out warm, creamy, and comforting--definitely something I could see myself enjoying even more once the weather cools down. For our main course, we all went with the fish fry. I chose the grouper, while my parents went with the cod. The fish fry was decent overall. My grouper came out piping hot, and I really liked the breading, but as a table we left feeling a bit underwhelmed. Maybe I should have gone with my other choice--the ahi tuna sandwich. All in all, I'd give the meal itself a solid 3 stars. It wasn't the best fish fry I've had, but I wouldn't write the place off. I had an awesome experience at St Paul Fish in Mequon tonight! Our server in the bar area was excellent. We were there for happy hour, which had great deals on their popular drinks and all apps! I love their margarita and the fried calamari was delicious. The sauce they serve with many dishes is so incredible!! My walleye sandwich was fabulous - it was a Friday and I wished the server pointed out that it was the special before I ordered, but now I know! It is a fun, busy, bustling bar and dining area. Date of visit: July 9, 2025 We came here for our anniversary as a friend of ours just raves about the lobster rolls. We made a reservation and was glad that we did as it was pretty busy. There was both indoor and outdoor seating and we actually would have preferred to sit outside but were not given the option. Our waitress, Val, was great, and really the highlight of the meal. We started with the calamari and you could definitely tell that the breading was of high quality, the actual meat was decidedly less so; it was fairly rubbery and needed a lot of the sauce to make it more palatable. I went with the aforementioned lobster roll and it was a mixed bag: The roll was very good, and the lobster was plentiful, but I was not aware that the scallions would be in the roll as they are not mentioned on the menu, an odd miss in this day and age of food allergies and sensitivities. The fries that accompanied the lobster roll were underwhelming, a bit limp and lacking in flavor. I wouldn't say that I would not come back, but I'd likely give some other seafood spot a try first before returning to St Paul Fish in Mequon. read more

We went out for fish Friday and wanted one of the best fish places in town because we were taking our parents out. We made sure to make a reservation because we know that this place gets packed. Thank god we did because there was an hour/ hour and a half wait if we didn't put in a reservation. We were seated right at the time of our reservation and our server was with us promptly. My water was full all night and we had a lovely meal. I decided on the mahi mahi with the pineapple mango salsa and the dinner was so fresh and hot. This place is so good our parents were joking that we'll have to come here everytime we are in town which I don't blame them. I don't think any other fish place in town can beat this one. read more

This is my go-to dinner spot when I'm in town for work! The restaurant is quite popular, but I can always find a spot in the bar area. The fish dinners are my safe meal when I'm not sure what I want to eat. You can pick your fish and have it grilled or blackened. It comes with mixed veggies, and it's all covered in a beurre blanc sauce or fruit salsa. It's a simple dinner that's well-executed Sometimes I like to get a few oysters if I arrive during happy hour. I did try the bouillabaisse one time, but I wouldn't recommend it. It was strangely sweet and bland. If I lived in the area, I would love to try more of the menu such as their seafood boils or their starters. read more

My second visit to St. Paul, I brought my daughter, who absolutely loved it. Our server Valerie was great. She was friendly, helpful, funny and full of smiles. She had great recommendations and was very attentive. This visit, I decided to try the St. Paul Lobster Tail Bloody. OMG. The presentation on this is amazing, and the drink itself was fantastic! The "Salmon Crack" garnish is offered as a starter, and after one bite you'll understand why. The sweet crust and the smoky salmon is an excellent combination. Think salty-sweet, but better! (Also big props for the beer chaser). We started out with the Cajun BBQ Shrimp, then I had the Shrimp and Sausage Gumbo. The Cajun BBQ Shrimp was tender, and the sauce was rich, creamy and spicy. I could have just dipped more bread in that and been fine. The Gumbo was also wonderfully spicy, with big pieces of sausage. It could have used a little more salt for me, but overall the flavors were very good. It's official. This place is now one of my favorites! read more

I'm a super fan of their Happy Hour specials, and sometimes have a meal there. Oysters are fresh and served with horseradish, seafood sauce, and more. Hostess is friendly, and bar and wait staff serve food and drinks quickly. I love how whimsical their dining room is decorated. Everyone loves their fish fries, but not being the fried kind, I'd highly recommend the halibut with jasmine rice and grilled vegetables. Fried shrimp and pan seared mahi were seasoned well and done right. Only downside was the salmon on the salmon sandwich as it was prepared on a grill that was heavy with charcoal burn which transferred an undesired taste to the fish. People love to love this place, and I've been twice now. It's always absolutely packed, but both times I've visited have been on a Friday/Saturday, so take that as you will. Definitely need a reservation for weekends. You can always stop at the Public Market just next door for a beverage while you wait though! Service has always been good, but I think the food is just average, and certainly overpriced. While it's fresh and cooked well, the portion size and the meals themselves are just way too small for what you're paying. For perspective, a blackened swordfish sandwich (about a 3.5oz piece, I'd say) and fries runs $17. It isn't especially flavorful either, but fortunately, they have malt vinegar and hot sauces on the table for you. I think this place survives because it's in Mequon and there aren't a ton of seafood options; the downtown location in the Milwaukee Public Market probably survives mostly on traffic. There are much better seafood restaurants if you're willing to go to the city, like Harbor House or Third Coast Provisions. Nothing was particularly *wrong* with the experiences I've had, they just weren't worth the menu prices. I'd expect good seasoning and memorable flavor for a $46 seafood boil, and it isn't there. It feels like a place for tourists or people who don't have a lot of restaurant choices near their home. read more

I was visiting from Texas and my uncle took me here because I'm a seafood lover. The ambiance was awesome. I loved the concept. There was a fresh seafood market when you enter and a restaurant through this open foyer. Surprisedly, there was no fishy smell. The fresh seafood was frozen which could have subdue the smell. In any event, the prices were reasonable and the portions were adequate for the price. Our waitress was attentive and friendly. I would have given this place a five star if my food would have come out hot; instead, the main course was warm and the sides taste at room temperature. I don't know if my was prepared first and it sat while the other orders were being prepared. It was strange but obvious that the food had different temps. I have been to the third ward location and obviously loved the freshness of their seafood but I think i prefer this mequon location because it is much larger, offers plenty of seating and i think for families with small kids this does not feel claustrophobic. I had their lake perch fish fry before and literally the only fish fry i will ever eat. My kids also finished it so its THAT good. I love the coleslaw too! My husband got the lobster roll which is one of their popular items and that did not disappoint. I had the lobster tail and grandma got the crab legs. Every single item we ordered were super fresh and perfect in flavor. Went there for an early dinner and this place is super kid friendly. Server was very attentive and always checked if we needed anything. The oysters were fresh and i will be back for their buck o shuck Thursday. My family and I dined in for a birthday and the food was amazing. The service did leave something to be desired but the manager stepped in and made sure we were taken care of. It's not often when each of us is completely satisfied with our meal, but we were all super happy with our food. We got a complimentary bread pudding for the birthday which was pretty good and very much appreciated. Honorable mention to the lobster Mac and cheese which was flavorful and had plenty of good size chunks of lobster in it. I took one star off due to a recent takeout visit where the lobster Mac and cheese was very bland, but the big pieces of lobster were still present. Overall this food was yummy and reasonably priced for seafood. I would recommend eating in for best results. read more

This was my first time at this restaurant, and I was really surprised at the size! Since their other location is in the Milwaukee public market and it's pretty small, I wasn't surprising such a big restaurant in Mequon. It's awesome that you can come here and buy raw shellfish/seafood and take it home. We came on Friday for fish fry, which they offer every day of the week. Usually, you can only find them on Fridays! We got the walleye and the perch, both were delicious. There's a lot of fish, not just breading. The tartar sauce was so good too, which I feel like can be hit or miss other places. I will say their appetizers are basically all shellfish, I think there was only 1 option for just a plain seafood dish instead of shellfish. We were hiking previously and I was a little concerned that we would be under dressed given the restaurants seafood offering, but I could not have been more wrong. The place was casual, laid back, and comfortable. What a GREAT place to take a kid who loves seafood! While I neglected to take a picture of the inside decor picture sports bar/restaurant decorated in lake, ocean, fish flair. It fun to look at all the different decorations on the walls as we waited for our food. The server was fantastic - friendly and attentive. Onto the food! For an appetizer we can calamari. The calamari was crispy and delicious. My son ordered the lobster and he was a little surprised when an entire lobster arrive to the table as he had only previously had lobster tails. I do wish the server would have mentioned clarified this, but we made it work. I did not think about the fact it did not say "tail" in the description. I ordered the lobster roll and for me is was not great, but I don't love buttery/salty goodness. I think the right person would love it - it just wasn't for me. I ordered it because I had always heard how good it was. This is a restaurant we will return to, but next time we will make better menu choices. read more

On Friday nights, it's a tradition in Milwaukee to eat fish. On any given Friday evening, I get a hankering for the Friday fish fry--and that happened to be last Friday night. My dad was visiting from out of town, and he specifically asked if there was a place he could get catfish. He's lived for years in the south, where fried catfish isn't eat just on Friday nights--it's a regular thing! And you can bet he's eaten some pretty tasty catfish through the years. We also have walleye fans in the house, so that was the other fish we ended up ordering. We've had cod umpteen times on Friday fish fry nights, so everyone was game to try something different. We ended up with 2 orders of walleye and 2 orders of the catfish, to go. I ordered via phone and the order was ready right on time when I went to pick it up. When I arrived at the restaurant, around 5:30ish on Friday night, it was full of activity and people, with to-go orders as well as folks seated inside. I haven't eaten there indoors, so can't leave a review of that, but my to-go experience was quick and smooth. Each dinner comes with fries and a small serving of coleslaw, as well as 2 small containers of tartar sauce. I really liked the tartar sauce-it wasn't the run of the mill but was chunky and had little bits of what I presume was pickle. NOTE about the photos: The photos were AFTER we had already started eating, so I have to provide a disclaimer-the walleye was one huge LONG piece (I cut it up so we could all sample it) and there three 3 pieces of catfish per order. So the photos don't truly represent how much fish was there. My father tasted the catfish and pronounced it delicious. He loved it! He raved about it. And so did I. The walleye was a big hit with those who tried the walleye--and me, too. If it's this good I might have a hard time choosing now between cod, walleye, and catfish. If you've never tried the catfish or walleye, and usually stick with cod, here's one place you'll want to give those a try. No one was left hungry and all were happy after eating our Friday night fish fry. read more

My daughter wanted to treat me to a seafood dinner on Father's Day since we are the only 2 who love seafood, and boy did she! Wonderful atmosphere and decor made me feel like I was at the beach out east.We were in the mood for oysters, and they had a nice selection, so we chose 3 types and all of them were nice and briny and delicious. I ordered a shrimp Po Boy and it tasted just like the ones I've had in New Orleans! The St. Paul Fish Company is one of my favorite seafood restaurants. The Mequon location is a little more relaxed and spacious. The downtown location is cool too but much busier. They have a lot of great seafood options to choose from. The seafood boils are always great and plenty of food. I mainly go here for the Bloody Mary, the oyster shooters, the oysters, and the salmon crack. I usually get a pound of the salmon crack to go. Definitely recommend checking this place out if you haven't already. I always look forward to making a stop here when I'm back in Milwaukee. read more
