The spicy was tasty, but a bit too greasy. I sampled the plain too; same sadness that they didn't either cook at a higher temperature or drain it better. Fair pricing for 3 pieces and a side, which is s plus! Sides of potato salad and mac & cheese were solid. Sweet potato fries on the side were the fav for me, though. Simple, cheap and good. Reminded me of the dive bars in New Orleans or Nashville. They have everything. Cheap beer, simple food, pool, sports, craft beer, music isn't too loud... I even saw that they allowed dogs in here. Chicken is super good and crispy and the hot chicken is actually very hot. One bad experience was enough for me to never come back . Bartender stared at and ignored me. He then proceeded on to intentionally serve multiple people who came after me before eventually coming to take my to go order. Then he was rude. He was also busy so I could be overreacting - but it's always busy when I come and I've never had this experience. Every other time customer service has been good/fine though. Wasn't too sure about this place but I was very very wrong. Hidden gem of LA. Went for a small cute date, and the ambience was so warm and fresh. As soon as you walk in your greeted with this Southern Style decor that makes you forget your even in the west coast. It has this beautiful deja vu feel too it. Simple menu that lets you know that they don't mess around with their chicken. Chicken was freshly cooked and spicy! It was deliciously paired with a spicy Mac and cheese and a creamy potato salad. After the main meal I opted too try the "Pie". It was the most delicious thing I ever tasted in my life. It melted in my mouth and the creamy peanut flavor was straight out of heaven. Didn't really like the chicken to be honest. Super greasy...and I actually love grease but this was next level. But it was decent and a pretty good deal for $10 and came with a side. I tried both the regular and the spicy. The spicy had a weird taste to it for me.. prefer the regular. Shoutout to the sweet potato fries though. Came with a delicious sauce which I'm not sure exactly what it was. These were $5. If i came back, I'd probably just get like 2 orders of this with some beer haha. I appreciate it for being different than the typical LA spot, the place has a cool divey feel and beers are cheap and food is decent so I'm cool with 4 star rating. But for me, the chicken was hyped up on here more than I think it deserved. Asked the BF what he wanted for his birthday dinner and he picked this place. Odd choice but that's what he wanted. This is a true dive bar with limited seating and a simple menu - fried chicken and beer. They have sides but those are extra and you can also get these nuts to go with your beer - anything they currently have on tap. We ordered the chicken, a beer a piece, some sides and that was pretty much his birthday dinner. Customer service is super friendly. Food arrives quick and piping hot and at the end, you get these wet naps to wipe down and clean up. read more

Both great just like the sides. If you are feeling adventurous and veer off the $3 menu, all the other beers available are pretty well priced. They offer a number of craft beers that might tickle your fancy. Parking is probably the only thing that you won't be a big fan of. However, do not despair, if you just drive down the street, you can always find some. Might just have walk a block or two. I dug how cozy the bar felt. But lets get down to brass tacts - the fried chicken. I might not be able to say it's the best in LA, but man it might be my favorite! As someone who usually douses his chicken with Red Rooster like I'm putting out a fire, I was impressed I didnt need to use a drop on Crawford's chicken. Top. Notch. Service is negligible, but who cares... chicken was really crispy and juicy, with the accidental star of the show being the mac and cheese :) It was creamy, light, mild kick from what I imagine was Fresno green chilli - whatever it was, it really hit the spot! The neighbourhood is a little sketchy (Apparently the cops have been called a few times for the occasional disruptive vagrant). The Mac and cheese has jalapeños which I've never had before. Very different but in a good way. Super cheesy! Chicken was full of flavor. Whatever seasonings they're using are bomb!! This place is WAY overrated. Scensters just WANT this place to be good. Beer, pool, and fried chicken is conceptually a HIP and cool idea in a neighborhood that's not yet gentrified. It's literally a bunch of white people buying $8 beers in an overwhelmingly Hispanic neighborhood. Unfortunately, the food is unmemorable. The sweet potato waffle fries were overdone to the point of being inedible. The cole slaw was too sweet, swimming in wet mayo, and was disgusting. The chicken came out hot and freshly made to order, and the crispy and batter was cooked perfectly. Unfortunately, the chicken itself was not buttermilk marinated or brined overnight. It's just raw chicken dredged in spiced flour, which is fine, but the chicken meat tasted like nothing, just weird chicken. The mac and cheese was good. Next time I'll just go to Dave's Hot Chicken or Starbird instead. read more

When you walk in the place is eclectically decorated, an old school arcade machine on one side and a pool table on the other, some small tables, a few booths, and seating at the bar, that's it folks. They have bud on tap for $3 and a selection of craft beer on tap and in bottles/cans. They also have fried chicken, really fricken good fried chicken. 10 bucks gets you two pieces of chicken and a side. The chicken is really good and juicy. You can go hot or regular. The regular tastes like hot chicken done regular, not necessarily super fried, if that makes sense. They have a couple different choices of Louisiana hot sauce available for the chicken (including Crystal, which is king!). A few choices for sides, I've had the potato salad (good) and the coleslaw (very good), which was sweet and saucy. They have other options and a few different sides you can order as well. read more

1. I live literally around the corner from this place, and I did NOT know it existed. 2. They have a large variety of beer/wine choices. 3. To say that their menu is minimal would be putting it very, VERY simply. The hubs and I were invited to go check out a "fried chicken place" by some friends of ours. They offered to pick us up from our place. When they got there, we hopped in their car... and drove around the block. I think this is a good time to add that these friends of ours live just down the street from us. It was L.A. gluttony at its best. The sign outside the building just says "FRIED CHICKEN" and "ICE COLD BEER" with no other indication of what waits for you inside. It was the "fried chicken" that caught our friend's eye, so that was that. When you walk in, there's a pool table to your right along with a few booths along the wall on your left. Other than the few additional seats at the bar, that's all the seating you'll be able to find in the whole place. So if you're a party of two or so, you can split a booth with another small party. We grabbed the last four seats at the bar. The beer selection is great, the prices are reasonable, and the menu is... well, minimal: - Regular fried chicken - Hot fried chicken That's it. There are a few sides (the hubs' beans were really good, and I really liked my mac and cheese). If ever I am in the mood for some chicken and beer mid-week, this will be the low-key, quiet, and yummy place the hubs and I go to. And next time, we'll walk. read more

Update: We've been coming here for years so we shouldn't have expected anything less. That said, we were totally blown away at the precautions they've taken to ensure everyone is being as safe as possible. One could pass by this nondescript "dive bar" in the Westlake area every day and not even look twice. All you'll see outside painted on the building, all you see is "ice cold beer" and "fried chicken" painted on the outside the building. After spending the afternoon, re-checking out the California Science Center to finally see Endeavor and catching "A Beautiful Planet" on IMAX 3D, I decided to stop by Crawford's on my way back home. I walked in and had one thing on mind. Hot chicken. It was early so I easily claimed my seat at the bar and promptly greeted by co-owner Dave. I ordered the fried chicken and was given two choices, hot or regular fried chicken. I went with hot fried chicken having tried Howlin' Rays version, and wanted to try their take on it. Their chef, Brian Garrigues (formerly of now defunct Short Order), is a native of Mississippi and is cooking some of the most delicious fried chicken in the city. Crisp on the outside and juicy on the inside. There are bottled hot sauces at the counter should you wish to add more heat. The chicken is served with a pickle and topped on a slice of white bread which by the end of your meal is soaked in oil and juices. You can choose either beans or cole slaw. The bar has a selection of beer in bottles and on draft from your mass produced beers to craft beer. There's also a small wine selection available. Not quite as interesting as the craft beer selection at Southland Beer, but I was still pleased with the selection they had available. Already a fan of Dustin Lancaster establishments (Bar Covell, Augustine Wine Bar and L&E Oyster) around the city, I was really looking forward to this visit and seeing his bar concept inspired by dive bars. The staff at the bar were all very attentive and friendly. If I lived in the neighborhood, I can imagine myself stopping by whenever in the mood for fried chicken and an ice cold beer. And if you want dessert, there's homemade pie made by co-owner Dave's wife, Jennie Garth. Highly recommended! Get your hot chicken fix without the long wait! read more
