Crawford's is a neighborhood bar with a nice beer selection. Their fried chicken sandwich (10) is a thick piece of chicken breast with crispy bedding. The sauce is delightful and the tomato adds a nice element. The "spicy" wasn't very spicy at all, but still had some heat. They only have this on Saturdays and Sundays. The chicken plate comes with two wings, a thigh and a side (13). The "spicy" had a subtle kick, but could use a sauce. The Mac and Cheese was had green chile which made it stand out. I've never had fried chicken quite like Crawford's. My boyfriend had been raving about Crawford's and even said they were the reason he got into fried chicken in the first place. I can definitely see why he thought this way. We came on a Friday and luckily they had some tables and heat lamps outside! Their menu only consists of their fried chicken meal which includes a leg, breast and choice of a side. We ordered the spicy fried chicken with a side of coleslaw and extra side of baked beans. The fried chicken had the crispiest skin and the seasoning was delicious. It wasn't Nashville style but I really enjoyed the flavor here. I'm not usually a fan of baked beans but theirs was really good. It was really hard for us to not finish it because we wanted to save our stomach for other eateries in LA haha. Service was amazing also. The owner Matt was super friendly and always came and checked up on us. He suggested we try their strawberry lemonade & basil hard seltzer which was very refreshing. Little dive bar. Prolly 6-8 seats at the bar. Tables are usually taken. 1 pool table cost $1 to play. 2 little tvs. Lots of regulars. Usually packed. $4 coors light all day every day. Not a great place to come watch a game or have a seat and talk with friends. Cus its crowded. Chicken is good tho. It used to be more consistent. A fun southern fried chicken joint! Fair warning the Mac n cheese and bean sides both had a bit of a kick but even with my pretty low spice tolerance I managed to eat them. The chicken itself was amazing! Not dry at all and the flavor isn't only on the skin. The skin itself had a really nice crunch and was pretty tasty! The sweet potato fries were delicious! The waffle cut makes them nice and crispy and the seasoning was a perfect amount of salt for me. I don't eat meat so I can't attest to their chicken, which is what they specialize in. However, this is one of my BFs favorite fried chicken spots. I think their chicken costs like $10 and comes with a slice of bread (literally, like a Wonder or Weber slice) and a side. BF says their chicken is delicious and very good. Their sides I think cost about $3 each. Their potato salad is pretty good, has some green onions in it and egg. Their mac and cheese isn't really on par to my liking personally, too bland maybe and not the kind of cheesy consistency that I prefer. The baked beans I think have meat in them but I did take a taste and they were incredible. I also really like the vibe of this spot. Kinda dive-y, cool lighting, TVs, pool table...just reminds me of the 90s. It's great. I'm a fan. Crawford's has been on my girlfriend and I's list for a couple of months. Driving on Beverly Blvd everyday, we see the inviting Ice Cold Beer and Fried Chicken sign from the street view, and keep telling ourselves we need to try this place... With Tommy's right across the street, our hopes were high because we love that place, plus we are less than a few minutes drive away. Wednesday night was our night. Friendly staff, ambiance pretty neat, and a comfortable vibe that had really great music. Unfortunately, the basket of fried chicken did not live up to the hype, nor did the sides we each got (potato salad + mac n cheese both tasted bland). Fried chicken was abnormally crispy, and didn't taste fresh with two options of regular or spicy. Spicy being spicy sauce added on the side and normal being no sauce. $13 plus tax will get you the basket of chicken (one wing, one breast) and one side. There are more sides but their food menu doesn't get much deeper than that. Overall, a comfortable hole in the wall bar. It's clean and has a nice atmosphere. Would come back again as a neighborhood bar but not as a restaurant. Maybe if we come back a bit drunk from a night out then the fried chicken would taste better, but I'll probably opt for Tommy's if I have any say in it. read more

Unfortunately I took a ravenous friend from out of town there, and it was so disappointing I had to take him to eat somewhere else afterwards because he was still hungry. He got 2 orders - 1 regular one spicy. One had 2 tiny chicken wings and a miscellaneous very bony bit of chicken - it wasn't a thigh and had very little meat on it. The other had a thigh and 2 tiny wings. I tried it and the actual quality was way worse than last time I ate here too. It seems like they don't serve drumsticks or breasts anymore - there was so little meat on the pieces they served it was weird. My friend was very polite and said the potato salad was pretty good. I stopped by Crawford's to grab some lunch/dinner before heading to the Forum to see JT in concert. A friend suggested this spot and they get busy. Order the regular chicken not spicy. The spicy chicken is overpowering and not tasty. You can spice up your own regular chicken to your liking with the hot sauces they carry on the side. It's delicious, crispy, and the smell will draw you in from the outside. It looks likes a typical bar, but the aroma of fried chicken will bring you in. Crawford's was just a pit stop for me and a friend before the concert, but it was a great suggestion. The bartenders are friendly, attentive, and the ambience is casual. Parking can be an issue, but we were lucky to find parking across the street. If you're in the area, stop by for a drink and some wings. read more

I had higher expectations for this place considering the reviews but it was a disappointment. So first off, PARKING IS NEAR IMPOSSIBLE. Somehow found a spot down the street after searching for a while. Upon entering the bar, the atmosphere was pretty lit, had a wide range of age groups , from young to old. The customer service was pretty friendly so that's a plus. We ordered spicy fried chicken and the Mac and cheese. We wanted to sit there to enjoy it but literally every table was occupied and nobody was leaving even though we waited for a table. That was incredibly annoying , so we ended up leaving. The chicken was alright. Wasn't as flavored as I thought it would be. It was still good though. The Mac and cheese was a bit weird.... it tasted like too much jalapeño and not enough actual "Mac and cheese".... didn't prefer it. Someone kept raving about the place, so naturally I made my way through the trek to check it out. Stepping in you quickly feel the atmosphere of a dive bar BUT you also get a comfort homey feel and personally, I believe it to be the smell of their fried chicken. Got a my order of fried chicken, a side of Mac and cheese, and a cider in hand. Points for having ACE pineapple hard cider, guys! Chicken was good but I believe their dishes were much more on the saltier side for me. More so than I usually appreciate. They do have sauces (hot sauce, vinegar, etc) to adjust to your fixings and tastes. They have booths and bar seating. Dimly lit. Street parking and a casual bar layout displaying all beers and wine with equal attention. Will I come back? Perhaps, perhaps. But not too soon. I really like this place. The environment seems anti-LA. Down to earth, low key chill spot with good music, good bartenders and cool patrons. All different walks of life. Good booze, good chicken (not quite as good as Nashville hot chicken) but they definitely do try. The pool table and the seating areas/booths are cool. Prices are definitely far. Decent selection of adult beverages with great Happy Hour prices. Food is served - truck is parked right in front. Food can be brought in too. Tommy's is across the street while Taco Bell is right next door. Don't park in their lot though. There's a pool table and one video game. Crawford's reminds me of a down home road house somewhere within the Alabama-Mississippi-Louisiana-East Texas deep South where most of the food is fried, and fried battered Okra is considered a healthy vegetable dish. The interior is part hunting lodge w/ a big deer head & part exhibition of his Southern roots w/ pictures of many food establishments that may go back to North Carolina, the state of his grandparents. It is a homage redolent with a "country" feel and a languid, friendliness that reeks of the south of the Mason-Dixon line. However, don't let that fool you none cuz Matt, one of the partners of Crawford's, is sharp as a tack, knowledgeable about food & drink way beyond his years. He could be a waiter in some of the tres hauts restaurants in our fair city such as Patina, Providence, etc. with his suave, sophisticated yet friendly hospitable approach that seems to hark back to some bygone days of Southern hospitality & grace. Presently the kitchen at Crawford's is in renovation, & the owner of Dante's Café graciously afforded the use of a new humongous catering truck to Crawford's so that they can continue to serve their southern fried chicken at the bar. Heart warming story of great generosity in our often anonymous city of the angels. Just for that I will have to try out Dante's Café to show that a kind deed indeed does not go unrecognized. Buying a taco at Dante's food truck before entering Crawford's would be a kind gesture. It seems to me that the forte of Crawford's is its collection of beers, fried chicken, & their take on baked beans that shows a rather chefly hand. 1) Cezanne: an orange scented pale ale that has tastes of rosemary, lemon infused into the brew. It is initially dry on the tongue that gradually morphs into an herbal sweetness. Lots of hops like an IPA so there is a pleasant, refreshing bitterness...all the more to cut through the oiliness & the spicy piquancy of the fried chicken. The finish is almost that of orange peel or Meyers lemon for a citrusy feel. 2) This Southern Fried Chicken, according to Matt, is more in the style of a southern Mississippi style which incorporates a hot sauce with a good kick into the well fried crispy, crunchy, dense yet airy batter. The chicken itself has been brined for a day & marinated in buttermilk so the meat stays moist, soft, luscious even the breast like the way they do it at the Park Bench Café in Altadena which is run by African Americans, who are often masters of Southern Cooking. My favorite Southern style fried chicken is Danny's in Woodville, MS where they used Cajun spices such as garlic, black pepper, chiles & sweet spices such as rosemary, all spice, cloves for an intense incense-like bouquet to their chicken, but the chicken at Crawford's is pretty damn good especially if you want it to absorb too much alcohol imbibed during your stay. 3) For me, mayonnaise based coleslaw has never been my favorite. The sweet refreshing vinegar based slaw w/ nutty peanuts at Tam O'Shanter is exemplary. The mayonnaise based cole slaw at Crawford is too rich for me since it is also oil based even though a bit of dill pickle vinegar juice was added as an herbal gastrique. Fried chicken & oily coleslaw don't provide for me a respite from all the unctuous oiliness. Vinegar based slaw would have provided a bracing respite. However, I realize this is a matter of taste. Châcun a son goût. A slice of garlicky dill pickle for those who like mushy yet chewy cucumber. 4) The baked beans here are rather cultured in its approach. The beans are not soggy & mushy, but a delightful al dente. The meat of the bean is soft yet firm, but the skin has a "snap". Matt mentioned that that is so since they make the beans fresh every day instead of leaving them to mush out & serve the next day. It is fortified w/ Coca or Pepsi Cola for a mellow yet touch of acidity. Caramelized onions add a smoky, funkiness, but the genius is adding raw onions toward the end to add a bit of textural crunch & a subtle fresh sulfur sharpness to counter the sweetness of the cola. I paired the beans to the acidic carbon dioxide bubble laden Prosecco & found a pleasant counter balance between the two since the 'pop wine' of the Prosecco & the cola had resonance. Crawford's, a Southern stop in an improbable section of Los Angeles. That is what makes Los Angeles a great urban conglomeration w/ uncommon pockets of the unexpected. 4 Yelp stars for good food, good beer, & a good place to hang out, Y'all. read more

I tried the fried chicken since that's their only item on the menu. You would think since there's only one item they would make it really good. If you think their fried chicken is good then you haven't had good fried chicken. What I got was a greasy oily piece of chicken coated with old oil fried coating o the outside. And to make things worse the outer crispy layer had bits and pieces of burnt crisp that you can't really avoid because the burnt crisp was fried into the chicken. I really wanted to like this place but you can't cheap out on not changing the oil especially when the only thing on the menu is fried chicken.
