If you want to pay for bitter water priced at $7-10 per cup no refills go ahead. I told the waiter who called the manager that the coffee and soufflés were really bad and they didn't acknowledge us at all. Just picked up the coffees and left . Still charged us for everything and then tagged on a %20 service charge for the 5 people they have standing around to take your order... pointless. We also got the STEW OMELETTE. $30 for rice cheese rolled omelette served with beef stew. STEW TASTED like canned tomato paste and included 4 pieces of hard chewy meat. We entered through the front arch, walked down the cobblestone, up the stairs, and waited in front of the sliding doors. This is such a cute spot for a couples luncheon or girls brunch imho. The service was great and we had no wait time which surprised us. The parking is validated if you use the lot connected to the hotel/restaurant. The food was delicious. Cream Pot is tucked away in a small shopping area of the Hawaiian Monarch Hotel. We dug right in anyway and loved the lightness and creaminess. I would've liked a little more berries, though. The owner, Nathan, always gives us a welcoming greeting, as do his two adorable doggies, who were halfway between greeting us and returning to their cozy blanket. Cream Pot is located at the Hawaiian Monarch, and they are located on the 2nd floor, towards the rear; there is also an exit/entrance from the main street. This place seems to be a Thai-owned brunchery - both the exterior and the interior of the cafe is super cute and well-decorated, kind of like a mini secret garden in the area. After studying the menu, I knew I wanted to try their Maguro eggs benedict, which were little patties of rice, topped with ahi carpaccio, avocado, shiso, daikon sprouts, and poached eggs with an orange miso shoyu sauce. Not sure where the 'rice cakes' that were mentioned on the menu were, but it was probably referring to the rice? This was okay - the ahi, while generous in its slices, could have been more fresh. It was a little stringy and hard to cut. I wished there were more of the orange miso shoyu sauce, as that was tasty, and it did complement the dish well. The rice was improperly cooked, as it was mushy and didn't add much to the overall plate. I tried their freshly-squeezed Orange Strawberry Juice, which was really yummy; however, with the high price point, you would think you could get a large glass or a carafe with it! Staff were pretty friendly and welcoming, and the place seems like a good get-together for small groups. With the higher gouge-like prices, in addition to the automatic gratuity that is included in the check, not sure if this place is a repeat return. I'm glad I was able to check this place out, though! We had lunch at the Cream Pot yesterday, second time we've been there. The food was great, as was the service. So why the two stars? I have issues with this restaurant. Has anyone ever seen a statement like the following in a restaurant in the State of Hawaii (or anywhere else)? From the menu (see photo): *Service charge of 20% will be included in the check: Service charge will be used to pay for costs or expenses other than wages and tips of employees (HRS 481B-14). This will allow us to determine how the service charge will be distributed. I have no idea what this means. Does anybody? I've never seen a statement like this, on island, on the mainland, or in any of the 30 or so countries I have visited. They are charging me a 20% extra mystery charge on the bill for some nebulously stated who knows what. We do not know from this statement what it IS, other than the fact that it is NOT the tip! I asked the waitperson about this and she first starts "explaining" that the state of Hawaii requires that the statement be worded like this. Right. We are Kamaʻāina, live a few blocks from the Cream Pot, dine out about 15 times a week, and again, have never seen anything like this. She ultimately told us that this charge does indeed cover the tip. OK, now that we have that established. Her "answer" only raised bigger questions. So if I went to the restaurant, did not read the fine print, and tipped my usual 25%? How would the staff handle this? Would they assume that I had indeed read the note on the menu and tipped 25% ON TOP of the mystery 20%? Would the staff point out to me that the mystery charge that the staff told me IS the tip, but the menu clearly states it is NOT the tip has already been taken care of and remove my 25% tip on top of that, or would they assume I'm a generous 45% tipper? If I do not leave a tip on top of the mystery 20% charge, do they perceive that as a 20% tip, or think I'm stiffing them? This is way too confusing for my little brain. We're out until they can clean this up. And lose the 3% credit card transaction fee. read more
