Cakes like Princess that are textbook perfect with cake layers that are moist not soggy, and a chocolate ganache cake that was rich, bitter, and sweet. Every family birthday and my older daughters college graduation celebration for just the 4 of us found joy and a taste of greatly appreciated normalcy to our pre-pandemic life in those cakes. The sandwiches are good but the salad vinaigrette wasn't balanced (too sour) You order in advance and pick it up in your mask. Easy Peary and safe. What limited experience I have had makes me so excited to continue giving them my business. Don't buy nasty supermarket cake for your family when you can support a local business and have the very best cake to grace with candles to celebrate life. Can I just say that this is one of the best bakeries I have ever been to. Not just is it a bakery, but they also serve brunch plates, and coffee. The bakery's ambience and decoration is very modern and chic, making it a beautiful place to enjoy a cup of coffee or a pastry with anyone. The service here is always beyond exceptional and fast, as they have implemented a system where someone takes your order and a different employee rings your order up. Furthermore, this was the first time I had actually ordered a brunch plate, in which I got the French toast. It was fluffy, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The presentation of the dish alone was exquisite and beyond anything I have ever had. My Honey lavender latte also represented the same quality, as I could taste the rich flavor of honey and lavender. My friend had the 'Biscuits + Gravy,' ( which by the way, I do not like gravy,) so I did not try it, but WOW. The presentation of the plate was exquisite as well! She also said, it was one of the best biscuits & gravy she ever had, which I don't doubt it. And don't get me started with their pastries. I've been coming here for a few years now. This is my secret go-to place in Novato whenever I want to fully enjoy my lunch. So I figured it was time I updated my review as that last one is pretty old. Well, what can I say? This place started as a five star experience for me years ago and it has only gotten better year after year. Major thanks goes out to Danny whose long term vision, taste and hard work has transformed this place into quite possibly the coolest spot in all of Novato to grab a delicious bite to eat, hang out with friends and chill while sipping on a great cup of coffee. And he's done this while consistently upping their game when it comes to their menu. I see him early mornings just about every Sunday at the Farmers Market grabbing all sorts of fresh produce. If you're traveling through Marin, or even if you live in some other area of the state or country, do yourself a favor and take a detour to Creekside. We have a Saturday morning thing now where we walk from our house which I have never in my life been more consistently impressed and delighted with baked goods than I have with what we get from Creekside. The macaroons are killer,, soft, almondy, with a thin crispy shell. The Biskvi which is a macaroon with an espresso and ganache topping (chef's kiss) the princess cakes are moist, light, rich. First off this place is overly priced, second I ordered a lavender latte and when I got it I took a sip and didn't taste any lavender, I asked the guy behind the counter if I could get more lavender and he snapped "I put lavender in it already" I still asked him for more. I watched him put more in and took another sip and still didn't taste any lavender. I asked the person I was with to taste in case I just wasn't able to for some reason and she said she didn't taste the lavender either. I think if you are advertising something as a certain flavor you should be able to taste said flavor. The quiche also was very bland and the texture was off. I bought two princess cakes -- white cake with cream and fruit frosting and fondant icing. They were beautiful and tasted great -- many compliments from guests and most importantly, the birthday kid! My only nit -- I wanted to reserve the cakes over the phone so ensure I had what I needed and could pick them up later that day. Nope, not allowed! Tried to pre-pay for them over the phone. I came for a croissant, cookie, and a latte but when i was looking at the selection of cookies I was asked if I wnated anything else and I was looking to see if i did but the person assisting me said "Hello?" about 2 seconds after she asked and didn't give me time to give her a sure answer. Born and raised in S.F. and each year for my November birthday I asked and received the famous Coffee Crunch Cake from Blum's bakery. Blum's closed in the 70's and I moved away. Fast forward to 2014 and I was happy to find Blum's recipe being done at Yasukochi's Bakery in Japantown town on Sutter St. but it's not easy to get to the City from Sonoma County around the Thanksgiving Holiday to pick up cake so only enjoyed a few over the years. Here we are in 2023 and my sister found Creekside Bakery in Novato and presented me with my beloved Coffee Crunch Cake. Creekside's version is just as delicious as Blum's. Pure Heaven! If you've tracked my reviews of Creekside over the past few years, since we moved to Novato, you'll know that we're seriously in love with this place. And somehow, irrespective of labor, cost and other challenges, it keeps getting better. First off, if you haven't been here, you can probably surmise from the menu what you're in for. But Creekside is really two special places in one (almost three - there in a minute): Our favorite bakery in Marin, and an amazing brunch/lunch spot with some of the freshest, most flavor-laden ingredients available in the Marin/Sonoma counties (and we've tried a lot of local cuisine). I'd be hard-pressed to choose favorites, but here goes: -All the toasts. We've tried Egg Salad, Avocado and (just now) the Mushroom Toast. The confluence of expertly made bread (to me, outperforming most SF standouts since I work in the City) that is substantial and delivers true flavor; accompanied with flair by the ingredients themselves. For the Mushroom Toast, our server mentioned that they get the mushrooms from a one-man NorCal purveyor; this "we found a really excellent purveyor) scenario seems to be played out continuously as you navigate through all the offerings. -The quiche. I am particular about quiche as it can veer in a lot of directions (too egg-y, too cheesy, lackluster crust) - but not here. You're not buying store-bought quiche and for the reasonable cost, you're getting something really unforgettable. -The bakery. Sometimes it's just a cookie and a coffee and we can sit outside and enjoy the sun (albeit it gets windy around here), but they now have umbrellas and even blankets when it gets cold, or you can eat indoors (limited seating but we almost always find a space). OK, what else on bakery side? Their celebratory cakes, cupcakes, croissants (don't miss ham and cheese if you eat meat), and even items like Soda Bread are absolute standouts, always made with love, care and precision from an incredibly hardworking team that is family powered (these guys have been in business a LONG time) and has a staff that's been here a while too, augmented by locals servers who are on the younger side but hardworking, friendly and proficient. -Celebrations. Noted above, you simply go here to order anything to celebrate weddings, birthdays, graduations, or holidays. They also do holiday food packages, and during the early days of COVID, we were occasionally picking up full meals here. But it keeps going. Irish Soda Bread is addictive. Hostess Cupcake emulations that are vegan. Just crazy good cupcakes in general that you won't care to share (!). Now they serve wine as well (the third reason to come here for some; I surmise a hard-fought battle but it's finally here!), and so you can augment your meal with more than coffee, tea, juices, etc. The Jordans - Steve (always keeping things moving in the front and implementing new touches), Cindy (tireless in the kitchen), and son Danny (the mastermind chef behind a lot of the savory meals and more) - just keep upping the bar, even during what must feel like impossible times. I just can't thank this team enough for the endless joy they bring to us and the community at large. NOTE - apologies to the Jordans if I've missed anything or am off, as you'll probably read this at some point! We haven't eaten enough of the brunches to give specifics, as we are usually not here until after 1:00 PM, but if "biscuit and gravy" sounds appealing, you've probably never tasted anything like their version. There is also a poached egg-based brunch salad right now that helps you satisfy "brunch and lunch" cravings. FOOD - 5(+) stars SERVICE - 5 stars (order at counter, but they make lines move FAST) CLEANLINESS - 5 stars CONSISTENCY - 5 stars. Family members + expert longtime staff are always present. We've never had to return a single thing, nor have any orders been off - my wife eats no cheese, and she gets no cheese, no mistakes. Novato has a lot to be proud of with this amazing business. The kitchen and staff seem to operate with amazing efficiency and synchronicity, not to mention friendliness (I just heard, this minute, a server saying "I love you" to another staff member who left for the day - does YOUR favorite dining establishment have this?!?). The line during COVID moves pretty quick. Expect to wait for 5-10 minutes for your food order to be ready. The staff is friendly and again the line moves well. Pluses for solid sandwiches and plenty of cake and sweet options. Nice spaced out patio seating which is great and it isn't too hot. Amber made us a cake that we will never forget. I spoke with her briefly on the phone about a personalized cake topper in the likeness of our dog and her favorite blue chuck it ball and she absolutely nailed it! Not only did she capture all the tiny details of our dog (white diamond on her chest and sprinkling of white on her muzzle and belly) but she even got the tiniest hole in the chuck it ball.
