My wife and I made a visit to Hearst Castle and planned breakfast stop here. It's typically a hole in a wall that we usually like. Our waitress was very nice and very attentive. The set back and issue was that the pricing for the food. We got only one toast, restaurants usually service two slices. One cup of mediocre tasteless coffee at $3.95 a cup. One side order of burned bacon at $7.00., regular 3 pancakes $12.00, the omelette was less to be desired, believe me I don't mind paying for service and whatever the pricing would be. However since it's a tourist hub all around the area, not worth this stop. Sadly to say you'll probably enjoy Denny's more food for your buck. read more

Quaint restaurant in downtown Cambria with a very nice outdoor patio. It is on the Main Street, but in a shopping center so you have to be on the look out for it. We had Sunday brunch there and all enjoyed our meal. The Apricot Stuffed French toast was a big hit with our family - 3 out of the 4 of us ordered it. Great place for breakfast! The back patio is the place to be. They have multiple electric heat lamps and propane patio heaters to keep you comfortable on a chilly morning. A nice water fountain and greenery gives it a serene feel. The pancakes were delicious and I am particular about pancakes. The Ranch Hand Pancake breakfast was really good and so was the price. The outdoor atmosphere is pretty good but the food is not that great. I ordered the *Alaskan Benedict which advertised as having shrimp and "crab" for $25.00. At that price I expected real crab and instead I get imitation crab. Also the potatoes are boiled and not crispy. The eggs where very under cooked including the whites. Usually for Benedict just the yellow part should be runny not the white part. Probably the only good thing was the salsa. read more

This breakfast spot has a lovely little patio in back complete with a fountain which I always enjoy. Lots of space. Some space heaters which was good because I definitely wish I had worn pants. Friendly, fast servers. My huevos rancheros were unfortunately pretty mediocre. I just had some amazing huevos down in Los Angeles so I guess the bar had been set pretty high. This restaurant is tucked away in the back corner of a little (but cute!) center along Main Street. I was visiting and wanted to get breakfast before riding out on my motorcycle, and this place--excellent. I ordered the "John's Special" both times, as it was a small but rounded enough breakfast before a 5 hour ride, and asked for sausage instead of bacon--which they happily substituted. (Not sure if it cost extra, wasn't worried--I was on vacation. I just wanted to have a good time.) The food was perfect, the employees/staff were amazingly friendly and attentive when I needed them, and of course: this place made my Cambria mornings even better. Thanks y'all! Ate here on our last morning in Cambria. The wait was not too long and the patio area was nice and relaxing. They have some unique menu options, like the Applesauce Pancakes that I enjoyed, but the normal food, like omelettes, potatoes and eggs, etc, are pretty standard and a little pricey for what you're getting. My daughter loved her biscuits and gravy, and I agreed after I snuck a few bites, that they were pretty good! A nice place to eat overall! read more

My friend + I were visiting Cambria for a quick getaway we live in LA so we weren't sure what to expect after reading Kathryn B's bad review. Let me just tell you, Kathryn B. was having a bad day and went on a rude tangent because she's use to pot pies. Let me tell you, this cafe is super cute with a patio that has heaters on those cold windy days. The service was great and the food was good. We ordered blueberry and apple sauce pancakes with hot chocolates and everything was delicious. We're true foodies and are a bit particular but this exceeded our expectations. We ate here in a larger group and the service was a bit slower as a result but other than that, the food was very FLAVORFUL and so tasty. I had the real fast burrito and although it didn't have protein in it, I found it to be one of the better bfast burritos I've had! My husband got a Parker scramble and I had some of his and found to be very tasty and full of flavor! The ambiance was really quaint and felt quite tropical and laid back. Okay this place is GOOD. It was one of the only dog-friendly brunch options in Cambria so I wasn't sure if it would actually be good and it really was. My husband and our puppy went on a Sunday morning and it looked pretty busy but we only waited for a table for about 10-15 minutes. They serve breakfast all day and have a special brunch menu. Most of the staff spoke English and Spanish and took good care of us. The food was delicious. I had the Eggs Sonora off the breakfast menu and my husband had the Monterey Scramble, then we shared some blueberry pancakes which come with blueberry syrup. The orange juice was fresh-squeezed! My mom and I met a friend here recently for breakfast while we were in town visiting Cambria. The inside space is small so we ended up on the outside patio. They do have heaters so that made it okay. You do get quite a chill though sitting outside in the winter. But overall it was fine. I had the COUNTRY BROWNS - Large order of country style potatoes with diced ham, green onions & Cheddar Cheese. Topped with one egg (I held the egg),salsa & sour cream. This was really tasty. A big portion, loved all of it. Lots of toppings. Mom had poached eggs with toast. She really liked this but they did not butter her toast. And she is a butter lover. But it was good none the less. Our friend had some sort of egg dish that she enjoyed. A nice friendly local spot. We had breakfast here a few days ago and can't stop talking about how delicious it was and how we can't wait to go back! From the second you walk in, it feels like you're in a home more than a restaurant because of the cozy dining room and equally warm and inviting patio. While in Cambria last night we had the best meal in well over a year at the Black Cat Bistro. I figured this town had a higher standard so we made the trip out here the following morning for breakfast. Nice little place with a garden environment that was pleasant and just a bit cold. Lots of seating with heaters but not ours. After we were settled we ordered our coffee and shortly after that ordered breakfast. We were having fun for a while then we realized people around us we're being seated and getting food within minutes and we were getting hungry. After 30 minutes we saw people leaving and the people that replaced them were getting food. So we asked our server about our food with a note of frustration pointing out how long we waited. She did not apologize but blamed the kitchen for the delay. She also said she could go in and cancel the order if we wanted to leave. At this time it was clear she forgot to place our order. 45 minutes into our visit the fruit cups came out followed shortly by the rest of our dishes. The fruit was good and most of the food was pretty good except the John's special, basted eggs were cooked to death! I would have complained but these people had enough of me and we were late for a tasting appointment so I'm hoping for a good lunch. I don't like giving poor reviews but this is the worst eatery we experienced during our yearly trip and something like this can ruin your day so people need to know! We planned on three tours at Hearst Castle (~6 hours continuous) so we wanted a large breakfast, not just coffee and pastries. We ordered the Liguisa Omelet and Denver Omelet. We subbed our potatoes and toast for pancakes instead. The eggs were cooked thinly and the meats were rolled into the eggs. That was wonderful because they cooked out the slimy whites :-) and the grease from the Liguisa was drained out. Short story: great, large omelets that didn't run liquid everywhere. Worst food in SLO county! Roast Beef sandwich was a joke, two thin slices of some store-bought meat on two barely toasted slices of bread with a piece of lettuce and some Mayo. The fries tasted weird and were inedible. My wife had the "John's special" however her eggs were not basted like the menu said, the English muffin was rubbery, and they forgot to melt the cheese over it, so they just gave her some shredded cheese in a cup out of the fridge.
