We sat on the back patio since it was pretty packed inside but the weather was great! I got the frozen house margarita which didn't disappoint. Instead of chip and salsa when you come in, you get a basket of chicharrones. We also got the dip sampler because you can't never go wrong with it! Then, the difficult task to pick a main dish! They have a fun selection of uncommon dishes which is super cool. My friend got the Birria ramen and loves it! I tried the broth and it was super flavorful. My husband got the Pittsburgh burrito which has fries inside. He said the fries in it were so good! My vegetarian friend got a solid mushroom taco and then got a little wild and got the cactus taco! I tried it and it was super good! I was a little more classic and got a Birria and a Al pastor taco. Both were really good and good amount of meat in them. I also got rice and beans and as you can see, it was a generous serving! I will be back much sooner than next time! Such a fun place in this part of town. They are definitely trying to be a little different from the average Mexican place.

As someone who's tried most of the major Mexican restaurants around the Pittsburgh area, Primo's easily tops them all. It was honestly some of the best Mexican food I've had in and around Pittsburgh.

A Gem in Irwin! Gato…read moreTaco is one of those places we always enjoy coming back to. From the atmosphere to the service to, most importantly, the food, they have created something truly unique in Irwin. The tacos are wonderfully flavorful and anything but ordinary. Even the names make ordering fun--The Bob Dylan, The Yinzer, Hollywood, and my personal favorite, The Willie Nelson. With choices including chicken, fish, shrimp, pulled pork, beef, and short ribs, there really is something for everyone. The Willie Nelson is my favorite for good reason: tender short ribs topped with a vinegar slaw and their "Secret Weapon" sauce--a spicy, teriyaki-style sauce that brings everything together beautifully. It is an outstanding combination of sweet, tangy, spicy, and savory. We usually start with the chips and queso, and they certainly don't skimp on the portions. From there, it's on to the tacos--and we have never been disappointed. Our waitress was attentive, friendly, and made sure our glasses never went empty. Great food is important, but good service makes the whole experience better, and Gato Taco delivers on both. The atmosphere deserves a mention too. It has the character of a 1930s speakeasy, with exposed brick walls and original hardwood floors, yet it remains bright, welcoming, and comfortable. It feels historic without feeling dark or stuffy. We love finding local businesses that put personality, creativity, and care into what they do, and Gato Taco is truly a gem in Irwin. If you haven't tried it yet, give them a visit--and if you're wondering where to start, I'd recommend the Willie Nelson! Great food, great atmosphere, great service, and a local business worth supporting. We'll definitely be back!

First time there. Not a bad atmosphere but the food and drinks were horrible…read more Watermelon Tajin margarita was bad so exchanged it for a typical margarita...still not good. The two salsas, verde and traditional red were not good at all. They were overly thick and strange tasting. We didn't even eat a quarter of it and the tortilla chips seemed cheap. The grilled shrimp tacos hardly had any shrimp (or any filling for that matter) in them and the shrimp were very tiny with an overly sweet and gooey chili sauce on them. I only ate one of the tacos because the taste didn't leave you wanting more. At least I saved calories, I guess. We went there because we were going to a concert across the street. If I'm ever in the area again, I definitely won't eat here, sorry to say.

The portion size is very generous and easily large enough to share with another person. The service has been fast and friendly every time I've visited. The ambiance is warm and inviting, with bright colors and artwork that reflect the restaurant's cultural heritage. Even the television programming helps create an authentic atmosphere and gives visitors a glimpse into Oaxacan culture. I love that they offer such unique and authentic Oaxacan cuisine right here in Carrick. The tortilla is homemade and perfectly crispy, topped with high quality steak and delicious Oaxacan cheese. My favorite parts are the green salsa, avocado, and grilled green onions. I absolutely love them. If I could change one thing, I would ask for a little more avocado and grilled green onion. I also think some grilled corn, onions, and peppers would complement the dish nicely. The radishes were not my favorite addition because they did not seem to blend with the other flavors as well. The lettuce and beans added a nice touch, and overall the dish was flavorful, satisfying, and memorable. It is wonderful to have such authentic cuisine within walking distance of home. I am already looking forward to coming back and trying more items on the menu. The chicken enchiladas with either mole sauce or green salsa also caught my eye.
