Sal was one of the nicest guys I've ever met. Exceptional services from him. Always offering fresh water and towels and telling stories about his travels from the 80's. We don't allow housekeeping into our room when we stay anywhere so it was perfect for us that they don't offer it here. You can come into the lobby and help yourself to things you need. We love that. If you are looking for some super fancy posh motel then this isn't for u. This is an older property and just has your basics and it's right near the beach. First time we've ever had a legitimately cold fridge in any hotel though which was fantastic. You get covered parking in a garage stall. Highly recommend. read more

Absolute disappointment!! Arrived after very long flights on holiday weekend to find TV, WiFi nonfunctional, room smelled musty, AC stunk, stale smoky unclean atmosphere. Stairway up to room unsafe, rickety. Bathroom walls falling apart, filthy etc. AC units dropping water outside of front door on wet towels. Amenities didn't meet what was advertised on web site or Expedia! Didn't provide full refund despite mgr promise & no where else to go on holiday weeknight. We did a one night stay here for my daughter's birthday! The owners were so friendly and accommodating as well as our housekeeper Cecilia, who was so sweet. The room was so clean with a great shower and the refrigerator and microwave were a huge plus as well as the AC, which kept the room nice and cool. The walk to the beach was three minutes and was perfect for both day and night beach access. Would definitely stay here again. Not to mention the parking is free which is a total bonus in Laguna! Definitely in the middle of renovations when we went in June but was pleasant. The rooms are updated and comfortable and very clean. Owner is attentive and informative. He gave us lots of sights to see and info on the trolley to ride into downtown Laguna. They have a small patio area and access to towels, beach toys/boards and chairs to borrow. What a hidden gem in Laguna Beach, CA! First of all, we wanted a motel right on the beach. They are less than 5 minutes from the shore. Some of the rooms have an ocean view. This little place is off to itself and VERY quiet. It's affordable but so nice and clean; simple, yet charming. The gentleman who is running the place is kind and friendly and will give you tips on fun things to do in Laguna Beach. We will definitely be back! read more

Great mom and pop hotel for a quick stay!! My bf and I needed a quick place to stay while my parents were in an Airbnb nearby, we book this place last minute and it was affordable, clean, and comfortable! King sized bed with a tv. Icky and uncomfortable. I stayed here years ago when it was very old but it was still clean and in good repair. The place has an unsettling odor as if the only cleaning product being used is ammonia. This does not remove the soap scum from the shower floor or clean the shower curtain which has probably never been changed out since they installed it. The towels are child- sized and not exactly new. There was no hair conditioner, no hangers and there was no housekeeping. One of the things about any beach property is that it's necessary to replace anything that gets oxidized from the salt air. Additionally there is the risk of roaches so the place should be able to be sealed well, not have a large gap at the front door. We were very dissatisfied with the PCH sidewalk location with heavy traffic. There is basically no difference between sleeping on the street or in the room in terms of noise. Horrible! read more

Those scumbags tried to charge me for smoking in my room, which never happened! Thieves! I stayed there annually for 5 years! Never again!

First time staying here, but won't be our last. Not a fancy hotel, no pool or jacuzzi, but rooms are comfortable, with mini fridge, microwave, coffee maker and air conditioning. We paid to upgrade to ocean view rooms, and glad we did; these are in Building 3, which are furthest from street, closest to beach (Building 1 is on the street, and I imagine would be loud). We had two 2-Queen rooms: 309 - which had the nicest ocean view, and 306 - semi-blocked by a huge Torrey Pine, but ocean view through the Torrey Pine was lovely, too. No balcony, but outside the door is a walkway, which you could stand on and enjoy a cup of coffee or glass of wine. They also have a nice sitting area downstairs, with a table, chairs a couple loungers and a fire pit, plus beach shower, and some chairs and beach towels to borrow. Easy walk to beautiful Crescent Bay Beach and park. Manager Sal was very friendly and helpful, too. Look forward to our next trip! read more

We love staying at Crescent Bay Inn. The clerk was incredibly helpful and friendly. He helped us find a better parking spot for our bigger vehicle. The parking is a little challenging so be careful. They room was clean, the air conditioning worked great and we loved that the offer beach towels to use. The beach shower is very helpful when you return from the short walk to the beautiful cove. After a nightmare stay at The Beat Western Plus Dana Point, my wife went last minute hunting for a hotel with ocean views, close to the beach to salvage the remainder of our vacation. Upon talking to "Sal" we decided to take a chance on Crescent Bay Inn(a few reviews said it was "dated", but most raved about the staff). This looks like an older apartment building that may have been turned into a hotel. Turned out to be a Gem! Comfortable bed with 450 thread count linens, Kohler fixtures/Rain head shower/vanity mirror, great work area if needed. Very Clean, great attention to detail from the Keurig Coffee Makers to several Little details. The best accommodation was "Sal"-he is a walking history of Laguna, and has gone to great lengths to make sure you have everything you need. Free boogie boards, beach chairs & toys and beach towels to take to the beach, refrigerated bottles of water, the local trolley schedule, anything you can think of. An outside shower so after the beach you can get rid of the sand. A nice fire pit and outdoor dining area for evening chats, a hidden trail with direct access to the beach, a nearby vista point where we watched the Blue Supermoon & Saturn. Covered and secure parking, laundry facilities, an ice machine that never seems to run out. There are no vending machines but a minimart just across the street has what you need(but if you ask Sal for anything, he probably has you covered). We felt our business was wanted and Sal really gave us the personal touch that made us look forward to our next vacation-this will be the starting point next time & I think we found our favorite hidden Gem. For reference, we have stayed at the Inn at Laguna Beach and The Laguna Beach House, and while both are "Classy" and first rate, Crescent Bay Inn feels more like staying with family or a close friend and even if everything isn't brand new, it is respectable and clean and you feel like anything you need will be taken care of! read more

I booked a room for one night this month (August 2023), but I had to cancel a couple of days before my stay. This is in Laguna Beach, CA, in the summertime, which is a very popular tourist area. Despite the notice, this place refused to refund me any of the $200 I paid. I travel to Laguna Beach, and I would have considered staying there another time, but they lost my business. Forever. Do not book if there's any chance you need to alter your plans. It's terrible that they don't accommodate a change of plans within a reasonable amount of time. If they told me they would try to book the room, but I would be charged if they couldn't, I wouldn't complain, but they made money without the inconvenience of serving a customer. The Booking.com ad says beachfront. It is NOT. there are buildings between here and the beach. It may be a short walk but there's no water. I prepaid but when I got here they wanted to put me in a room next to the highway. I asked if there were any other rooms. Manager said he could put me in an ocean view room but only if I handed him $30 cash. I didn't have it and said I'd pay it later. I had not seen the room yet. From the pics you can see there is no ocean view and there buildings between here and the ocean. I don't care if the beach is a 5minute walk, it's not beachfront! False advertising. I don't usually do reviews because I do not like harming a business if the owner is not at fault or the product underwhelms, but when the owner of a business is a crook and a flat out liar he does not deserve that respect. The owner charged us an extra $150 after we checked out because the white purse my niece was carrying he somehow mistook as a "pet". He then claimed our room was extra dirty, which he completely made up. He then charged us additionally for having 2 extra ppl join us on the 2nd night, which he assured is at check-in that we would not be charged. The owner of this hotel does not hire a staff, to give you an idea how cheap he is. I travel often and aside from the owner being an unpleasant crook, it's just an underwhelming hotel in general. No pool, rat traps all over the property. Very unkept. Definitely will never stay at this hotel again when in the Laguna Beach area. read more

Unfortunately only two stars for Crescent Bay. The check-in area is very odd. The floors were filthy and they pretty much have a table with a rolling chair as their check-in area. The young man checking us in was courteous. The parking could really tear up your car too due to the small spaces as you try to park between the carport beams. Let's get to the room. It was the size of a breadbox and not very clean. I saw a bunch of dirt under the sink area. The comforter was questionable, but the bed was decent to sleep in. What really disturbed me was the refrigerator and microwave in the bathroom. That should never be ok. Both my husband and I started getting vertigo in the room too. Very strange-we opened a window for fresh air. When I opened the curtains a tad this morning I saw someone trying to peek in. It was the maid. It was only 9am. Before you choose to stay here, read this review for accurate expectations. The motel is cheap and close to the beach, and it includes free parking. Contrary to the website, there is no breakfast, WiFi is slow and spotty, and there may or may not be a hairdryer or a power cord to the TV. The walls and doors are thin and sketchy. Where do I even begin? This is, by far, the worst hotel experience I've ever had. First of all, the customer service is horrible, very rude employees and doesn't care about the guests. I ask for an early check-in since I arrived early I was told basically no can do check-in is at 3:00 pm. I get into my hotel room, and it's as if a hooker just left the room. As I'm getting ready to settle into bed, I find hairs in the sheets. The remote controls are filthy and not clean whatsoever. The carpets have stain's all over them as if someone just went pee on them. Talk about cleanliness and a deep clean, especially with COVID-19. I talked to the front desk gentleman about getting a refund back and was denied my money back. The best way to explain this hotel is benign neglect. It appears that somebody bought this place several years back, did the renovations and now are trying to squeeze out of it every dollar they can. Much of the furniture is chipped, shower doors out of alignment, paint abraided, even the mirror lights misaligned. The TV kept dropping signal. The stairs to the second floor look like they were painted at the same time the rest of the hotel was renovated. Staff? OK. Actually one employee was terrific. Breakfast? A joke. At least they had Keurig coffee makers in the rooms. Now, I had requested a ocean view room which came with a tremendous downside for me. They are all on the second floor and there is no first floor for this building, only very cramped, paint excoriating parking. If you have a larger truck or SUV, you've been warned. I'm a disabled veteran with various replacement parts in my lower extremities and I had to shlep all my luggage to room 303. Upstairs. No elevator. Overall, a $49 hotel anywhere else except for the location, and view, which is pretty great. Pro tip? Rooms 302-310 have a terrific view. But if you have a gimpy knee or hip, opt out! read more

Stayed there this weekend. We can all agree that this is not a 5 star resort. However, I was pleasantly surprised. Had a last minute check in and Sal the on-site manager was accommodating and nice. Rooms were decent in size. Air conditioner worked. Tv worked. Bed was actually comfortable. Rooms can use a little more deep cleaning (carpet) but Nothing a little Lysol spray couldn't handle. No bed stains, no bugs, so that's a plus. Parking can be a little tricky if you have a big car. Literally the walk is about 4 minutes away to the beach. If you don't mind not having the luxury of a 5 star hotel and your not bougie then this place can work for you. read more

What a disappointing experience. Check in is always at 3:00 at most of these places. My girlfriend, who made this reservation days ago, and I arrived at 4:00 and our room wasn't ready. They weren't even in the process of cleaning it and didn't bother doing so until after we arrived. Charming! We loved our overnight stay at this small local hotel. Our room was clean with all expected amenities (coffee maker, refrigerator, safe) I can't say enough wonderful things about the hotel staff. Friendly and work hard to accommodate their customers. I honestly cannot think of a better place to stay if you are in Laguna. It's an OG style motel. No real frills, but not bad at all. You can tell that they have done some remodeling and the room was clean, spartan but clean. What more do you need or want? A/C, a comfy bed and mini-fridge. The location of this place is everything. It's proximity to one of the most beautiful beaches in California....the motel is just up the street, you can even take a little trail to the beach. The beach I speak of is Crescent Bay Beach, if you like beautiful private feel beaches surrounded with million dollar homes, you'll dig this beach. Circling back to the motel, I mean it. If you want to do Laguna on a budget and be a 3 minute walk to an amazing beach, it's quite a luxury really. The free breakfast is a bit of an after thought, but it is something and it's available. The motel check in is super tiny and has that mom & pop feel. You may need to ring to speak to a rep. There's a free shuttle that the city provides. Find the schedule and figure it out how you can cruise up and down the coast gratis. Trust me it's nice. read more
