I vowed never to come back two years ago with Michael's service (former owner). His service was deplorable, which was a shame because the food was outstanding. Earlier this week, I was told that the new owner is great and that they're now open till dinner. My family and I ate dinner here yesterday. Dinner was tasty, service was great and we were satisfied. I went back tonight. There were three other people seated when we arrived. My appetizer was over salted -- to the point of being inedible. I called our waitress (new owner?) and she was understanding. She came back and said she'd tasted it, and the batch was over salted (I noticed the lady at the table next to me was still served the soup). That was the last time we saw a waiter or waitress for 40 minutes. I watched food come and go at every table next to us. A couple who were seated after our us were half way thru their main course and we hadn't been served a main course yet (and I had no appetizer as the soup was way too salty). I called the waiter and asked how much longer. He said 1 1/2 minutes. Five minutes later I walked to the desk and explained what happened to the female waitress (owner?). I was starving and probably not super polite, but I was not impolite or irrational either. She told me that the order was put in 36 minutes prior and would be out soon. She was polite but I felt she was brushing off the fact that we had been sitting for 60 minutes at that point and that the order appeared to have been put in 15 minutes after the order was placed. She was very prompt to bring the food and wait on us after. However the experience felt reminiscent of Michael's service. The dinner was tasty, with exception of the soup. I enjoyed both meals (yesterday and today). The atmosphere is nice. However service trumps food. If I'm starving, it helps to be given service and cared for (before the "meltdown"). I wish them luck, but wanted to give honest feedback. read more

Crescent Cafe is in a class of its own when it comes to dining in McMinnville. I've eaten at the Cafe monthly (and for a time, weekly) for the last three years. Every meal has been served hot, fresh, and to-order. No other restaurant in the County matches this level of service. The proprietor takes a hands-on role in management, and it shows. Delivering hot, consistently delicious meals to a room of hungry diners requires serious back-room coordination. But this efficiency doesn't come at the expense of warmth. Waitstaff is attentive, and pleasant. Don't be surprised if servers greet you by name after a few trips. This is the kind of restaurant that values its "regulars," but they work hard to convert every diner into a "regular." New special items are available every day, incorporating local, seasonal food. You may be disappointed to find a favorite special item isn't available during a certain time of year, but in my experience, experimentation has always been rewarded at the cafe. If the Cafe's specials don't entice you, their regular menu contains all of the breakfast standards. Their corn cakes are are personal favorite: crisp, golden ingots of cornmeal and cheddar mixed with eggs over-easy and a side of ham is a delight found nowhere else on Third Street (or greater Yamhill County for that matter). Breakfast is the Cafe's focus, but their lunch menu is no less worthy. I'm just going to say it: their hamburger with garlic aioli and apricot chutney is the best lunch I've ever had. Everything on the menu is worth a try, but make that burger your priority if it's available. Even better, the Cafe doesn't smother your entree in a pile of fries! Every lunch is served with a side of green salad or warm, seasonal veggies. Instead of daring you to finish your plate without begging for a takeout box, the Cafe serves a hearty, balanced meal meant to be eaten in one sitting. After finishing your lunch you'll feel satisfied (not ashamed). You can expect a 10-15 minute wait to be seated during weekend breakfasts, but you'll understand why after your first meal. read more

Last night I had dinner here and it seemed like a great opportunity to write my first review for this place. They are only open for dinner on Th, Fri, Sat right now. I had been several times for breakfast but was excited last night when my wife remembered that they might be open for dinner. They were totally doing dinner and we got a table by the window so we could watch 3rd St while we dined. They have a short list of beer, wine and bubbles but it fits the atmosphere. We started with the Frito Misto, which was delicious. Then we split a salad and shared the risotto, which was killer, and the rabbit, which was quite good, but I would order something different next time. Our server was polished and professional and interacted with us in a way well suited for the restaurant. It was just a really enjoyable experience. I can't wait to be wondering where to go to dinner while walking down 3rd Street in the future. I am highly recommending this place for a McMinnville 3rd Street dinner experience. It will probably be super busy for dinner there now that I shared this information. read more

Everything is fresh, and AMAZING here. A cute, quiet and traditional like farm town cafe. The bread is one of my favorites, thick cut, fluffy and light. They have chef specials that come from the creativity of the chef! Which I love. Medium portions, and quality food. This breakfast spot was recommended to me by my gf......so we gave it the old in n out! The lines are usually out the door, but our timing today was on spot, only waited 10 mins for our table. The place is quaint and small inside. The wait staff is friendly and nice, their recommendations were great! Our waitress informed us that they make 5 daily breads every day on site. The Mimosa were very good, first time I've seen that color, they were a deep ruby red! We tried the Cinnamon roll, sweet and done just right, but it was served cold not warm. Next up was the omlette with chicken, spinach, caramelized onions and cheese, also very good but it was missing a flavor, maybe some garlic or goat cheese? Now I know what everyone else is raving about. Crescent Cafe is worthy of a coveted five stars. Wife and I had a rare morning to grab some breakfast on a Sat. We stopped on 3rd and happened to snag a parking spot right in front on 3rd street (which is one of the most beautiful small town streets in Oregon, btw). We walked right in and were seated immediately. We're glad we timed it right because within five minutes ( kid you not) there was a line waiting out the door. We both had two specials. My beautiful wife had an omelet, filled with avocados, tasty bacon pieces and scrumptious cheddar cheese and I had the Ham / Eggs special. The Ham was a smoked cut from Carlton Farms and the eggs (ordered medium) were PERFECT. Add a homemade biscuit and I was in hog heaven, excuse the pun. Pricey place but well worth it as we were more full than a tick on a coon dog. Even with the expense, I'm keeping my five stars up there. Well worth the stop and BEST place in Mac to eat breakfast. read more

The Crescent is about as good as it gets for breakfast in Mac. The owner, Michael, is very friendly and sociable. The food is incredible, and almost entirely local. The menu had a few standards that are always on, but is constantly changing with some wonderful seasonal updates. It IS a very popular spot, so the lines start early, and you can often wait for quite a while to get a seat. It's worth the wait, however. Just make sure you don't let anyone in your party wander too far afield, since they won't seat you if you're not all available. The Good Staff was pleasant. Interior was nice. Downtown McMinnville is fantastic. The Bad Grilled cheese lacked cheese. Trace amounts. The Ugly I ordered the special. Which was smoked salmon Benedict. The salmon wasn't smoked. Maybe had some liquid smoke. I asked what type of Salmon it was. Was told it was a silver king, which is a king with its scales fallen off. As my wife said, that would be a dead King. I had bad digestive issues a few hours after eating this dish. It might have been a coincidence. I would eat here again. I'm guessing our visit was a fluke. The Staff was great. If I had ordered pancakes this might be a 5 star review. I would not order a fish related dish here again. read more

Located in the heart of wine country, on historic 3rd street (the main street of McMinnville.) I have eaten breakfast and lunch here. The menu is fresh daily and well prepared, service excellent. Beef is organic and from the owner's own farm. My only disappointments were that they only offer drip coffee (no espresso or latte!!?), also, no choices for salad dressing just apple cider vinegar and oil. Sadly disappointed in Easter. Food quality was surprisingly not great, hope this was just a bad day as this has always been my favorite place to go. It's been about a year since we last came here, right after the ownership change. Today my husband said the food seemed like it was all leftovers. Chicken was dry and stringy and soooo chewy. As the weeks and months slowly crept by, as my life sped by faster than I could live it, I always had the Crescent Cafe. No matter how long it had been since I'd been in, Michael always made me feel like a long lost friend walking back in the door. This place was my refuge from the world. Finding a restaurant of this quality in McMinnville is like discovering your neighbor used to be the President of Venezuela. Remarkable. These guys could go to the largest city in America and run a multi-million dollar business. That they are in McMinnville running a ten table joint is a gift to McMinnville. I've eaten everything on the menu and everything is amazing. From the freshly squeezed blood orange juice to the unbelievably good chicken fried hash with its fresh thyme, banana pancakes, it's all so well prepared. Hands down, best place for breakfast in McMinnville. The cook used to run Ella's in SF and some of the dishes are similar (thankfully the chicken hash was brought over as it is my go-to standby) but this place is better. Any time I'm back in the area I have to go at least once. The ingredients are all fresh and local and the bakery items are fantastic (even if you don't have room, get the coffee cake. You won't be disappointed.). The specials are seasonal and inventive and the service is great and attentive. The wait can be ridiculous but I don't mind waiting if the food is worth it, especially when you'd take a big step down with the other places closer. But if you can make it the earlier the better and then you won't have to stare in the window at other people eating and being jealous. It can be spendy for the area but what else should you expect considering the ingredients and the care put into the meal/experience. Plus after living in the Bay Area the last three years, everything outside of it seems reasonable! read more

Michael always manages do an easy sell on the specials and coffee cakes - I'm an easy mark and almost always delighted. No espresso, but great fresh squeezed seasonal juices. Sunday, 18 Oct 2009, breakfast There was already a wait at 9:30am. Luckily we beat the big crowd that starts forming around 10-10:30am on weekends. When we left, the wait was an hour and a half. I don't know if I would go so far as to say it would be worth it, but it is the best breakfast place in McMinnville that I've found so far. There were 6 of us (parties of 6 or more, 20% gratuity). We all ordered breakfast dishes, two of us got extra sides, all of us got coffee or tea. With gratuity it was $106. I had the chicken & gravy over biscuits which came with an egg (I had over easy). I also ordered a separate side of hashed browns and a coffee. Others ordered the special omlette of the day, corned beef hash, and chicken hash (which I will try next time, it looked fantastically delicious!). Everything meticulously cooked to perfection. I was the only one in our party that devoured the entire meal. Everyone else took leftovers home = good portions. Bread made on site...that morning! You can also buy a fresh-baked loaf to go if you want. They use natural, organic, and local ingredients whenever possible. A very simple and complete menu. They're also open for lunch (which I've also had...done very well). The service is also the best I've ever had in McMinnville. So sorry to have to leave a bad review. We have eaten here dozens of times, even since it changed hands a few years ago, and have never had such bad food or bad service. Today they were not very busy so we did get seated fairly quickly. It took about 10 or 15 minutes to get beverages, and then about an hour wait for food with maybe only one check to see how we were doing on beverages. The crepes were very tough. The hash-browns, bacon and eggs were all under cooked. Staff gave a half hearted apology laced with excuses that didn't even make sense. A bunch of Portlanders told us to go here during our wine tasting excursion. Literally...everyone we asked where to go for breakfast in McMinnville said "Crescent Cafe". So we did as we were told. You walk in, and the little owner man, Danny, comes right over, sits you down, and tells you all the wonderful specials. They seem to have a daily coffeecake, daily pancake, daily this, daily that, etc...all depending on what's fresh. E got green onion polenta cakes with poached eggs and I got the sundried tomato, bacon, cheese scramble with fluffy hash browns. Both were super delicious and all the ingredients were fresh and perfectly in season. The owner so loved the BF's flying super pig tattoo that he made him go in the back and show it to the cooks. Planning our wine country trip, I could hardly wait to hit the Crescent Cafe. There were so many swoony 5-star reviews. And yet, when we ate there, we just thought it was "nice". How disappointing. The staff were very friendly, and the atmosphere was fine (sort of upscale, countrified country cafe), and the food was nice enough, but nothing blew our minds. I can't even remember what we had, which is worrisome, since I am a borderline idiot savant about food orders. I think there was a pear cake. Other than that, I don't know. Yum. I'm still craving the thickly cut toast and perfectly cooked hash browns from my visit to the Crescent Cafe. This was our best meal during our McMinnville weekend. We stopped in feeling a little nervous about our options at this cafe because we do not eat meat and fellow reviewers also noted a long wait. The wait was indeed long, both for the table and the food, but I disagree that there is nothing for vegetarians. Yummy pastries, toast and egg dishes, and a fried cornmeal dish were just a few things we found for our tastes, and we couldn't have been happier with our choices. Again, Yelp reviewers are not exaggerating about the wait. Our server actually suggested some "orange juice or cinnamon roll for a starter." We thought that was weird to suggest. . a breakfast appetizer? But, if you are starved, take them up on the offer. If you go in already hungry, after the wait you may be a bit too grumpy to fully enjoy the tasty eats.
