    lumberjack, with an omelet above
    Dan R.

The sign on the door said to wait outside to be seated. We were quickly waved in and set. They've packed the tables a little tightly, but the big windows and mirror provide a sense of space. First impression of the menu was the prices being a little high, just a little. I got the lumberjack: huge amount of home fries (see photo), very tasty bacon, biscuit a little thin and dry, somethng about the gravy. Scott enjoyed his omelet and cleaned his plate.

I hadn't been before but saw the owners own this place and Jam so we had to stop in. Wow I wasn't sure on the Belmont skillet after seeing other reviews but it had more veggies, was piping hot, and super delicious. The biscuit was perfectly soft and fluffy inside and crisp on the outside, perfect for pairing with their jam. I had enough to take half of it home for later as well. My friend had the Lumberjack which I also wasn't sure if it would be too heavy but it was super enjoyable and tasty. The tables by us were clamoring over the vegan cinnamon roll pancakes and my friend liked it though I could have passed on getting it as ours was a bit burnt. Every service staff we met with were friendly and kind. I think I would have enjoyed the food a bit more if it were cooler inside but we came on a particularly hot day. The pictures show how steamy and hot all the food was (a good thing!) Overall, we'll be back for the tasty savory dishes.

I have spent years, searching out amazing breakfast and brunch spots in Portland. I do not know how I have never heard of the Cricket Café until recently. What a wonderfully kept secret on the corner of Belmont and SE 32nd avenue. This is a small spot with a menu that is hard to choose from, every selection looking scrumptious! All topped off with friendly service at a fair price.

Benedict and cheesy baked hash browns!

The service was great and helped us with descriptions of what we were considering! The food was very good!

Honey Cinnamon French Toast - Chocolate Chai - Big Farm Breakfast

We got here and put our name on the list for a party of 5. We waited about 20-25 minutes before being seated (faster for smaller parties), which is a reasonable wait time for a weekend brunch in Portland. There is no indoor waiting area, so be prepared for the elements if it is raining and windy. However, there are canopies outside for you to stand under while you wait. Once we got inside, it was a quaint and diner-like ambiance. There are about 25-30 seats, with additional seating outside permitting the weather. Our server was very kind, greeting us and quick to get our orders. Our group had lots of questions about the menu, and they were able to answer all of them for us. We did not wait very long before our food came out. I had a chocolate chai which was a unique take on chai. It was alright; the chai was a little watery than I would have preferred and not very chocolate-forward. As for the food, the portions were substantial for the price point. I got the Big Farm Breakfast - it came with french toast, three eggs, country potatoes, and bacon. I love a traditional breakfast, and this one is good! The bacon was thick-cut and of excellent quality. The only complaints are that the country potatoes were well-seasoned but slightly oversalted. The french toast was a little dry, and they only gave you a little tablespoon of honey cinnamon butter. TLDR: Average wait, but outside. Excellent service, and the food comes out fast. The food was overall good but well seasoned.

First time trying Cricket Cafe. I've always passed by the unique cafe, but finally received an opportunity to dine in with friends. It is a small location. I wouldn't recommend a big party because we waited more than 30 minutes for a party of 5. The seating was tight in the booth but it was better than waiting outside in the freezing rain. I ordered an oatmilk latte and the Portland skillet. I think that the prices were affordable. You can't really find an entre for less than $15 around Portland these days. Anyway, the Portland skillet had a very unique taste and texture. It was very creamy for me and a little salty with the potatoes. It was very tiring to eat cause I got bored of the taste. Otherwise large portions and homemade jam!

The Cricket Cafe is an amazing place. The cafe is small and intimate with a great wait staff who are funny and willing to help you decide what you want when you are undecided on what to get. The food is amazing and so yummy. The breakfast I had was super good and filling. Next I am in Portland, I will be going there again.

Florentine, golden goat, and the ranchero. Golden goat has the best flavor.

Pretty slow and FYI its a small place. Our food was good, I had the golden goat omelette, which was pretty darn tasty. We also have a Florentine, which was all right and the ranchero, I have to say, the golden goat had the best flavor

The food took a half hour to come out and it was incredibly mid. I got the classic breakfast and the hashbrown bar thing that came with it was not good. Our server was nice though! The ambience was p cute but we were stuck in this cramped cubicle area.

As i approached the building, I noticed that it was full of people. I fell into the street. I was in and out of consciousness. My heart was racing at the thought that I drove 15 hours and could not get a seat at SCREEN DOOR. As I walked into the building a humble man greeted me. He told me that they would clean off a table for me. WOO HOO. I bursted out crying at the thought that I finally got my seat. As I sat down a soft chair graced my bottom. Beautiful. I looked around and the scenery was beautiful. As I looked at the menu, my eyes sharply turned to the chicken and waffles. Deliciously perfect choice. I ordered my food and got a coffee. My chicken and waffles arrived and I took a bite. I started floating. My soul left my body. I looked down at my body as I floating away, I was enjoying every bite. I reached the heavens. A loud voice said "Its not your time yet. Return and enjoy the rest of your meal." I ascend back to the chair and every chicken and every waffle was gone. The servers were SO kind. I got my check and shead a tear, knowing that was the best meal of my life. Over all from kind servers to and delicious food, SCREEN DOOR was an awesome experience. Our total was 73.2 after tip for 2 dishes and 2 mocktails. Portion sizes were huge, if you're getting any savory dish, the sausage gravy is a must add. There was a short line forming. The large windows give you a sneak peek at the opulence waiting inside. Upon walking in the main entrance, the first thing I noticed were the chandeliers. The inside is gorgeous. The walls are painted various shades of greens making it bright and gives off a soft and natural feel. Given I was dining solo, I decided to seat at the bar located off to the left. It seats 12 comfortably. A big plus for me are the seats. They had a high back and are super comfortable. I could see sitting for hours gabbing with friends. Nice upbeat electronic music played in the background. Loud enough to hear but soft enough that you can hear who is next to you. I ordered the Omelette du jour - Three egg omelette special with bacon, spinach, caramelized onions, gorgonzola and blue cheese. It was fantastic. The first thing that hit my palate was the blue cheese and caramelized onions. Delicious combination. I was happy to see that the omelette was overflowing with caramelized onions as I love them. The accompanying roasted potatoes were cooked perfectly. I also got an espresso martini to wake me up and give me a buzz to start my day. Upon first impression, if I lived in Portland, I would come here weekly. I could see this being the place for brunch with girlfriends to catch up over cocktails.

Between the genuinely friendly hospitality and the flavor combinations, this spot hits it out of the park and is a must for sandwich lovers. Griddled Mortadella (5/5): An incredibly delicious sandwich that perfectly balances rich, salty, and savory flavors. It comes loaded with a generous portion of grilled mortadella and melted provolone cheese, perfectly moistened with a tangy mustard aioli. The fresh lettuce and bell peppers added a satisfying crunch to every bite. Chefwich - K-Town Steak Sandwich (5/5): A limited-time creation packed into a banh mi roll. It had a generous portion of perfectly tender and sweet bulgogi steak that pairs with their melted jack cheese. The gochujang mayo sauce had a subtle and sweet heat, while the fresh kimchi added crunch and slight acidity to balance the rich meat. Elote Tater Tots (5/5): Definitely a creative side dish. The tots were perfectly fried and topped elote style with cotija cheese, pairing well with the smoky chipotle mayo on the side.
