First off this was our 2nd time to eat here. I can assure you, DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THE FOOD!!!!! We were seated and waited about 15 to 20 minutes before we were even noticed by the waitress, actually my husband had to go find her. We asked about drink specials but apparently the drink menu had changed and those were no longer the specials, but the manager still gave us the discount, drinks were good, and beer cold! So we order fried mushrooms, that were described as "tempura" battered , they were overly battered and definitely not tempura, the mushrooms were barely cooked it was almost like eating raw one. My husband went there to order a peanut butter bacon burger, which he had the last time and it was very good. Well it was far from good, very dry, no flavor and actually burnt!! Fries were ice cold and greasy. I ordered a fish taco that was described as having a slaw on top of it, the flour tortilla was hard as a rock, totally inedible, fish was cold and greasy, no type of sauce at all even though it was supposed to, the slaw was shredded cabbage and cilantro, that is not a slaw!!! I also ordered a side of the Brussel sprouts, there were 2 raw hard Brussels spouts and the rest of it was fried leaves of the sprouts, worse thing I've ever eaten!!! We really should of complained, our food was horrible, but the thought of complaining and possibly getting something worse, was just not worth it! ! The waitress told us the owner was making changes I suggest he hires a chef, or learns food quality! ! Maybe you can get away with serving crap because you are in a college town, but eventually it will catch up to your business! ! Our bartender Mike was amazing! He was very nice and efficient. Took care of me and my 3 friends very fast with a very crowded bar. The entire bar staff was amazing, with probably close to 75 people waiting for a drink, I never waited longer than a couple minutes! Great teamwork read more

My husband and I accidentally found Cricket Grille after visiting another prominent Waco tourist stop 2 years ago. We loved the Brisket Grilled Cheese so much that we stopped on the way to San Antonio Friday and Sunday on the way home. The food does not disappoint and we had great service from our waiter Liam (spelled like the actor, lol). There are 107 craft beers on tap. Stop by and enjoy. read more

We've eaten at Crickets for years, with service and quality varying. But the last handful of times we've gone have been positive. Food is fresh and hot, service is friendly. Last night Andrew was our waiter and he was responsive to all our needs knowledgable about the food and beer, and very friendly. This place was fantastic! I drove down from Kansas to see a friend and we stopped in. The waiter recommended the hamburger, we ordered that and the monte cristo. Everything was handmade. Believe it or not it was an excellent hamburger. The service and food was great. Wish we had one in Kansas. Ready for another trip to Texas just to eat here. Subpar college bar. Beer is never cold enough, but could be due to glasses that come straight out of the dishwasher. I'd rather just have a plastic cup. Should carry more bottles like Cricket's in Lubbock. If you have a large group it is okay to go to. Wells are overpriced. Service can be slow or uninterested. Tonight my girlfriend and I ate at Cricket's bar and grill. Our waiter Connor informed us that they decided to experiment with peanut butter and a burger. The food was excellent and our waiter was so sweet and helpful. He stood with us and gave us ideas for future date nights. Loved Connor and would definetly eat here again. read more

Awesome selection on draft! The girl bartender is a rockstar! She was very knowledgeable about the different kinds of beer and found exactly what I wanted. The spicy Baja burger was top notch. Fair to good, decent beer(lots on draft), basic drinks. Turns into an alcoholics oasis/ meat market at night. Bartenders seem to be inexperienced. Ordered a Tom Collins recently and bartender didn't know how to make the 4 ingredient basic cocktail. She looked it up on her phone & made a terrible drink. Asked for a G&T instead & there was barely tonic in it. Fine. Bonus star for pinball and skeeball. Reply to owner comment: I appreciate the response. The bartender was clearly inexperienced (she had to look up a Tom Collins on her phone) and she reacted oversensitively when I gave the drink back. I'm not going to ask a poorly trained and non-customer service oriented bartender to remake a drink she clearly didn't know how to make, especially when she somehow managed to mess up my replacement drink, a G&T. read more

I have to say after being a Texas Tech grad and working at the Crickets in Lubbock for years, I would think the Waco location would provide a group of 20 the same service. I've given them too many tries. I'm done. The food is always terribly mediocre and bland. What they lack in flavor, they make up for with terrible service. The service is laughably incompetent. I've been here about 5 times and never impressed. My daughter asked to go here today(because she hasn't been many places since starting school and this is one of the only ones she knows). The pathetic experience started with a waiter who brought an appetizer and then vanished. I think he was kidnapped or poisoned. We finished it and sat waiting to order for about 20 minutes. Never saw the dude. Restaurant was NOT busy. We finally got to order when he escaped his captors. How can you screw up a grilled chicken salad? You reheat yesterday's chicken in a microwave until it's so rubbery that you can't eat it. You think I'm exaggerating? Try it at home. Microwave-reheated chicken is unmistakable. It is TOTALLY different from off the grill. Make that 2 of those salads on our table. Both salads were so obviously yesterday's chicken. I'm thinking, are we being pranked? Oh, and one of them had no dressing, so we asked the (terrible) waiter for dressing. He. Never. Brought. It. In fact, despite being told that someone's dinner was NOT complete, rather than rush to the kitchen to fix it, he decided he should circle to ALL of his tables and take some orders, refill some drinks, make idle chit chat, play some cards, and whatever the hell he was doing. So we finally asked another waiter for it. He saw that his incompetent coworker was a miserable failure so HE brought it quickly--not our MIA waiter. No, he still couldn't do it. I had iced tea. When it was as dry as the Sahara and I had managed to crack my teeth eating all of the ice because I had no drink, he finally brought me a water. Twice. I reminded him that I had tea. He ran a few errands, worked out, cut his toenails, and then remembered that I needed a tea. He didn't refill any of our table's 4 waters (or tea) until he was asked--including for the 3 people in our group who ONLY had water. But he did bring me water twice--the only person who did not order water. We moved empty appetizer plates to the end of the table to make it easy to clear, since we hoped someday we would get to order and eat. NONE of the incompetent staff picked them up, even AFTER we got our tasteless and incomplete entrees, so now there are plates all over the table. When he brought the new waters we had to ask for, he LEFT the empty glasses on the table. So we had a giant collection of glasses and empty plates. We began offering them for sale to tables around us since our table looked like a flea market. I have tried to like this place, but the service is always weak, and this time it was an absolute joke. There is nothing about this place that makes it worth trying except for the beer selection. That. Is. It. If you want to eat, do not bother. It's just terrible. And if there is a wait, then you only have yourself to blame if you do wait. Go hit the Wendy's or IHOP. It's leaps and bounds better. I'm saving you from a mistake I made. Don't go. The Bacon Ribeye Bloody Mary on the brunch menu is the best Bloody Mary I've ever had! The food is always delicious, and they sure can cook a mean burger. On our last visit we had Mo as our waitress and she was amazing-attentive and funny! Food is overpriced and mediocre. If ordering a beer go with the mainstream stuff. The uncommon beers usually taste stale. Fun to hang out and play pool or shuffleboard if downtown. Nice decor and comfortable setup. Just don't expect anything great or unique and you will enjoy it. read more

If you just want to drink beer and play pool this place is okay, but nothing more. We came in with a party of 7. We were seated at two booths next to each other with the same waiter. It appeared that he was only servicing three tables, including ours. One of our tables got drink order, received drinks and got food order, while the other was completely ignored. Finally one of our party hunted down the waiter and requested that he take our drink order. By the time we got drinks the other table was getting food and by the time we got food the other table was finished. We never got drink refills and took it upon ourselves to use their drink station to refill ourselves. When other patrons saw us using the drink station ourselves, they began to do so as well, so I guess their service was just as bad. And there only appeared to be 8 or 9 tables of patrons. And the food. I ordered a "classic philly cheesesteak". The only thing classic about it was it used beef. It had yellow american cheese (think plastic wrapped cheese slices) instead of provolone and was served on a sweet bun. The only way it could get less classic is if it was a chicken sandwich. The fries were cut and cooked just the way I like them, then promptly rendered inedible with a mountain of salt. I might come back here just to play pool, but you couldn't make me sit down for a meal again. Horrible service and poor food. read more

Their selection of beer is phenomenal, although the first beer my husband ordered was missing in action. The waitress brought out a small sample of a similar beer for him to try, and which he ordered. Nice touch! The food is okay, just not anything to especially visit this restaurant for. The "world famous cheesy fries" are a disappointment--limp, and covered with a cheese that sticks them together and gives you a glutinous mass to try to eat. read more

Initially we had a little issue getting seated. I was a "bit" upset but the manager diffused me better than a Bagdad bomb squad and we were so glad he did. The food and service were the best. We had a chicken fried steak and an order of cheese fries. I would definitely recommend both. I am usually not a big fan but the cheese fries were probably the best I have ever had. Ever since Crickets has changed/updated their menu, I have been SO impressed! Their burgers, fries, pretzels, chicken, ALL of it...delicious. Not only is the food good, but the manager, Richard, is amazing. I specifically ask my waitress/waiter for him every time my fiance and I go there. He always takes care of us, and he is one of the nicest people I've ever met. I don't go to the bar part of crickets that often, but when I do, Brandon (older guy, always wearing a hat) always gives us amazing service. We will honestly wait for him until he is free because we prefer him to make our drinks. Such a nice guy, and always smiling and joking with us. I will be going back soon! :) read more

I really enjoy the bartenders here. They are the best! Every week I get to try a new beer. The food is pretty good, although, I do wish there were some veggies! Sometimes I don't want just fries or onion rings. When it gets busy, they do a great job of keeping service up, which can be really difficult. Was in town this weekend visiting friends and went to Crickets for Happy hour Saturday. Atmosphere was really open and inviting. The selection of on tap beer is unmatched by anyone I've seen in Waco. I ordered the Balsamic Chicken sandwich recommended by the bartender, wasn't expecting much from the sandwich but it blew away my expectations and didn't take long at tall to have out to me. The bartender Tom was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about the drinks and made a mean Long Island. He was also very helpful in telling me about things to do in Waco and new restaurants to try while I was here. Overall had a great time at Crickets and will definitely be coming back when I'm in town next! read more

Had a horrible experience here server at the bar was very rude and then manager said the server couldn't serve us because he was uncomfortable serving us. We aren't from Waco and we're looking for a place we can't eat at home! This was a great pick. The fried pickles deserved 5 stars on there own! Good atmosphere but slow service. Owner was in this morning from what we heard from our waiter and all the workers seemed pissed and aggravated. We saw the manager argue with another costumer and get on to a waiter in front of us. There were few selections on the brunch menu. Our food was okay but the waiter didn't tell me that one of my items I ordered was unavailable until he brought out everyone's food. To tie it up all around the customer service was disappointing. My husband and I stopped in tonight after just randomly coming upon this place while walking around town. Service was excellent! We had a young server named Zach who couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. He suggested a terrific beer for my husband, and made some helpful suggestions with regards to the menu.
