Burger was juicier, fresher (if that's possible), had more on it (at least the All American did), made fresh to order. Fries tasted beer-battered and were greasier in a good way. They had a side order option for 1/2 fries & 1/2 onion rings, which I love because I never want a full order of either. Got ranch, thousand island and ketchup for my dipping sauces. A trifecta. It was awesome. Looked like a family operation, mother, father and son. Working their buttons off all the way to close. Prices were reasonable. Double smash burger with cheese and the works for $8.95, 1/2 & 1/2 fries and onion rings for another $3.95. Then, I saw this interesting place called Crispy Burger next door and decided to try it out. I ordered the original burger and crispy's crazy fries both of which have a Philly cheesesteak like cheez whiz melted of goodness. I am biased for cheese so be prepared for loads of melted cheese on both the burger and fries. If not a cheese lover, you may want to ask for less as it is a lot. There are typically two types of delicious bugers, a clean side and hearty side. This one was definitely hearty which is no problem at all. What I would have liked on the burger is some toppings such as lettuce, tomato, and pickled onions or something alike which would complement the burger tremendously based on being so hearty. Regardless, for this type of burger, well played. As another comment mentioned, the burger and fries at Crispy Burger almost tastes like a slightly higher quality In N Out but with more cheez whiz! Do not kill the messenger Californians. If this is your style of burgers, definitely check them out. They are also a newer establishment so Yelpers go! Came here after a long day of walking at the San Diego Zoo, looking for a good burger. What intrigued me was the high rating both on yelp and google reviews (google reviews had a 5 star full rating!). I got the All-American burger, and it was solid, but extremely salty. Both the burger and the fries were salted to the point where nobody in my group could finish their food and we had to stop for drinks. The price isn't bad, and the workers were attentive despite how busy they were, even conversing with different customers. It's a small place with nowhere to sit, which is fine since it's takeout. But there is also nowhere to sit outside of the establishment, we saw people eating inside or on top of their cars. Overall, I'd say I would like the food if it wasn't for the absurd amount of salt that was in it. I'd like to think it was a one time thing, but I don't see myself coming back. read more

I wanted to compare these burgers with those of the same style, namely "smash burgers." What other restaurants offer smash burgers? In-N-Out, The Friendly, and Smashburger are a few. Since my favorite burgers, smash burger or not, are from The Friendly, I ordered The Original 'OG' Crispy Burger for an apples-to-apples comparison. Not bad. Not bad at all! The burger is not as good as The Friendly but is still better than In-N-Out. What Eat Crispy Burger does better than The Friendly though is the ambiance: Instead of divey--which is a euphemism for "we don't spend money on the interior"--the dining room is actually clean, modern, and comfortable. Now that I've tried a variety of smash burgers, I have to wonder what makes the burgers from In-N-Out, The Friendly, Smashburger, and Eat Crispy Burger taste distinctively different. All these restaurants share the same characteristic technique of smashing their patties so my friend and I speculate that it must have to do with differences in the mixes and seasoning. If you know me you know I won't eat at any other burger joint unless it's In N Out simply because the taste and price just can't be beat. I agree there are plenty of gourmet options out there but Eat Crispy Burger is one of those few burger joints that does it just right. Simple burger that hits all the great tastes and doesn't charge an arm and a leg in this inflated market! The American burger is nice if you want some veggies but the OG is where the magic happens. I don't even like grilled onions but they're not overpowering here and the thousand island-like sauce adds great flavor to the burger. Since this is essentially a smash burger I'd suggest ordering a double patty. You get an option to do half fries and onion rings, aka the best of both worlds and my are they both amazing compliments to the burgers. Fries aren't soggy or too well done and the onion rings are much crispy. The best part is the service is top notch. I appreciate a business that genuinely pushes for good customer service. We didn't pay attention to our food order being called so someone personally brought out our items. Employees were friendly and nice... open to explaining to new people... though my kids didn't listen to my question and the answer and wish they had because... the sign makes it look like you can only order it 3 ways... but the employee said you can order with any combination of toppings. It does not say that anywhere so it seems you only have a choice of the styles. A list of toppings included would have been really helpful. Food... I ordered the chicken and it was pounded thin and was a little dry. I did the buffalo sauce and it was very runny so dripped out and didn't have a strong buffalo taste. Veggies were super fresh and nice brioche bun. My guys all got burgers and said they were really good.. except he wish he had known he could have had what he liked- veggies and ketchup... I did ask if they thought it was worth twice the price of in and out... that said the burgers were bigger and they thought they tasted better. Onion rings with ranch were great. I ordered an impossible burger today with a gluten free bun. They have a dairy free cheese option. They toasted the bun with avocado oil instead of butter. THANK YOU!! These crispy smash burgers taste great. I've never REALLY been a fan of impossible burgers but since it's Father's Day and my husband wanted to eat here I obliged. I'm so glad I did. We decided on the original OG crispy triple burger which was their take on a smash burger and the all American crispy double burger with was the OG with veggies like lettuce, tomato, onion and pickles with a side of half onion rings and half fries. I loved the option of getting half and half. We absolutely loved everything!! Angela and her team were the sweetest. They recognized we came in during the rush and gave us an Oreo shake for our long wait. We really didn't mind because the food is made to order and was absolutely delicious. This burger will change your mind on what a real burgers about- they even use certified angus YUM. If you're looking for a boring safe burger don't go here. The burger was well seasoned and juicy, the buns were crispy and the meat to cheese ratio was nicely done, melted and piping hot. The thousand island that they use was soooo good. I would get this as a side sauce. I got some jalapeños and banana peppers on the side and they packed such nice heat. I'd recommend Eat Crispy if you're near the area. On our way up to Dutch Bros, the hubby saw the sign for this little gem and said "what's that!?!" I of course went right to Yelp and read many reviews and we decided we had to try this place on the way back. We were NOT disappointed at all! We both got the single OG and added bacon, plus we split an order of the fries/onion rings. Burgers: the Pattie's had that nice crisp on the outside (lives up to the name for sure) and was still juicy. It was super flavorful and I really enjoyed the nicely caramelized diced onion. Fries: honestly we have some high expectations when it comes to fries, comparing them to some fries we used to get 20+ years ago from our hometown. These were totally on par to our old "Dave's frosty fries" crispy and flavorful that they don't need to be dipped in any condiment. But dipping in ranch, ketchup or even thousand island only enhanced them even more! Onion rings: Oooh the crunch--We could hear that crunch from across the table as we would bite into them! These shone more than the fries and I almost regret not getting a full order (not that we could've finished them but would've tried! So. Good. As a self-proclaimed burger expert, this spot is a welcome addition to the growing burger scene in San Diego county. I love a good smash burger and this place does it pretty darn well. I've tried both the OG Crispy Burger and the All American Burger and they do not disappoint. The brioche bun is perfectly soft (very important in a burger) and the meat patties are perfectly cooked and indeed crispy from the caramelization. I've not yet tried their Cowboy Burger but rest assure I will be back to devour that spicy option very soon.
