Lives up to its name! Most smashburger places just give you sad thin patties but miss on the crust and the crispy edges that define the genre. Not Crispy Burger! Their smashburger game is strong, plus the burger patty is nicely peppered but not overpowering. If I had one criticism... and it is a minor one... my double OG could have used just a smidge more grilled onions and dressing. Although, that let the deliciousness of the peppery burger patties shine thru, so I will call it even. The onion rings were nicely crispy but otherwise fairly ordinary and the fries were above average. But, who really goes there for the fried stuff??? As this is actually the closest restaurant to my house, I am happy that it is a good one. My waistline might suffer, but adding a few extra hours of exercise a week might offset what I expect to be regular consumption of burgers and fries. Maybe walking there instead of driving would be a start.. Anyway, as far as the food specifically, the Impossible burger is the best I've had anywhere. My meat-eating family members report that the beef burgers are excellent, in fact they prefer them over In-N-Out, Burger Lounge or Habit. I can testify that the fries and shakes are seriously good. Labor day 2022. Beautiful weather but hot as you know what. Wanted to take my nephew here on business from Germany, somewhere different for lunch. Found Crispy Burger (CB) on Yelp. Good Yelp reviews. Possible friends and family. I am neither. We did the Chart House on the water front in Cardiff last year. Great view but the food was subpar and expensive. Fast forward one year. Crispy Burger is a small, no significant indoor seating and a few tables outside, family owned and run business five months old. Located off of Freeway 5 in Leucadia. Some parking. I live in La Mesa and my nephew was coming from Oceanside so we meet in the middle. Inflation bites. Everything is more money. I love a good burger, fries and chocolate shake meal. Big fan of In and Out. I can get my hearts desire for $8.50. At CB I paid $20. $40 for two with 15% tip. Not exactly a family destination. Entry level single burger at CB is $7, fries $5, shake $7. There are two versions of their burger. The OG Comes with fried onions, cheese. The other comes with the traditional toppings, lettuce, tomato, onion. They say the OG is their favorite. I ordered the OG. Good but way too much salt. I nicely let them know. Honestly I think I would have preferred the burger with lettuce and tomato. Both burgers are $7. Fries and onion rings were good but not extraordinary. Shake was good. When the food was served my first thought was small burger and average amount of fries for $20. The shake size was typical. I was starved so I wasted no time eating. The burger is a smash burger. The meat and bun are wonderful, three levels above In and Out, but way, way too much salt and on the small side. High sodium for sure. Did I mention too salty? I know of a couple other local La Mesa and San Diego small burger places. Ok food but prices are too high at these places for my budget also. They just can't compete with In and Out. Will go once in a while but probably won't go back to CB. Too far to drive and prices too high. Recommend for a change of pace if you don't mind spending the money or driving. Just be aware of the salt. The cook may be applying salt when cooking the patties. Burgers are prepared upon order so hot and fresh. The staff is super friendly and will go the extra mile to make it right. Try requesting no or less salt. Overall: excellent food and service. Clean restroom. High prices. read more
