Affordable, juicy and hearty. Love this local joint. It's kinda like a IYKYK, mom and pop shop. The chicken is super crispy and flavorful. I really love the tenders also. It's a nice change from your genetic chicken chains. Chicken and rice is thee best combo. They have a pretty large menu, plenty of new things to try. Service is good, food is fresh and fast.

Another San Diego favorite of mine. These guys are spot on with their fried chicken and I hope so by the name of the restaurant. Wait time is efficient due to the cook time. No hot lamps I've ever seen. I always pick up so no say on ambiance. Stop by and get your cluck on.

Jumbo shrimp with mashed potatoes and gravy and mac & cheese

Stopped in to get our fried chicken fix and ended up falling in love with the jumbo fried shrimp. This place is on point, the jumbo 8 shrimp combo is a must try. The shrimp are huge...make sure to get cocktail sauce and hot sauce. Pass on Mac and cheese but the mash and gravy are tasty. The fried chicken was made to order...get the hot sauce with it as well. The place has a small section to eat in but would recommend carry out.

Some of my favorite fried chicken and seafood in SD! Pretty sure everything is made fresh. The chicken and catfish are super juicy and crispy. Shrimp was plump and tender. Definitely recommend their okra! Coleslaw was good too but a little too wet. Can't wait to come back!

MAKE SURE TO ORDER AHEAD.. Always a great choice. I ordered my food and was told 20 minutes, it was more like 35-40 wait.

Tried calling to place a takeout order and they didn't answer. Walked in and ordered a popcorn chicken combo which included 2 sides. I ordered mashed potatoes and fried zucchini. They weren't good. Fried zucchini had good texture but was very bland. The popcorn chicken wasn't crispy at all. Though the coating had good flavor, it was falling off. Chicken was dry. I could see if it was sitting out for a little while but it wasn't. Also waited 25 minutes for my order. All together, wasn't very good. The only reason I'm giving 2 stars is because the portion size was large.

Fried chicken ala carte.

Our families go to place for fried chicken. Tonight was fantastic. We ordered to-go and everything was hot and crisp on schedule. Excellent as usual.

The best. Dark meat.

This is probably the best fried chicken in town. The building has a very unglamorous appearance. Don't worry about that.

Ok chicken place has been in the area for a very long time. A little pricey for wings that were cut up with part chicken breast. Just ok.

Ask the Community - Crispy Fried Chicken

Does this place sell garlic noodles?

yuh

Did this place change ownership in the past 2 years? Looking for 2020 and 2021 reviews from diners.?

My apologies for not writing a current review since we continue to visit this SD gem! It's still in the same owner's hands (see other answer) and the quality remains consistently fantastic!

Does anyone know if this place is open during Covid-19 restrictions?

It's open for take out and delivery on app like Postmate.

Does Huy still work here?!..

Unfortunately, not anymore.. I heard he sold the shop and opened a restaurant next to GTM in Santee, named the Chicken Shop

Does this place use local or natural meats?

I do not think so. Too expensive for the amount that they have to make and what they sell

To my surprise the cheesesteak sandwich was absolutely delicious, probably the best one I had in a long long time. I had mushroom cheesesteak with cheese fries. The bread was soft, the meat was tender and tasty (slightly too salty). The fries were crisp and cheesy. The works sandwich was a bit too spicy for us. The sandwiches came in 3 sizes: 8 inch, 12 inch and 18 inch. Definitely will come back for more :)

Walked in to a sick looking spot that had a nice atmosphere to it. Food was ready to go brought it back home and opened that baby up. I went with the Pepper Steak with sweet peppers and Mrs Gorger went with the Cheez Wiz Steak. These were humongous cheesesteaks which I love. I mean just look at the pictures and tell me your mouth isn't drooling for some of that. One bite and it was so fresh, so tasty, so juicy, so amazing. Absolutely stunning and delicious. If you love a good cheese cheesy cheesesteak then I highly recommend you get the Cheez Wiz because that one was SO gooey and cheesy just the perfect amount. Now I always know that fries are never the best to go but this place wrapped their fries up like a sandwich which was the first I've ever seen and did it work. They didn't come out soggy at all. Such a nice touch that every restaurant needs to be apart of. The cheese dipping sauce was KILLER. Everything about this just makes you want to rub your belly, gorge, and eat while enjoying some World Cup matches which is exactly what happened. Absolutely amazed by Gaglione and shoutout to whoever gave us an extra fry too, I salute to you! Best, TBG (The Big Gorger)

The staff was very gracious in the face of the huge crowd and a mountain of orders. The location is spacious with plenty of room to line up and tables to sit and eat or wait on orders. The parking was easy too which was a bonus. For food we got two orders of the big greedy with yams, greens, baked beans and the new mushroom rice. I will stress that everything was excellent and we would get this exact order again, but a few particular standouts were 1) Fried Catfish. Our favorite protein by far. It was deliciously seasoned, perfectly fried, and succulently tender, 2) Candied Yams. They were sweet, tender and nicely balanced, 3) Mushroom Parmesan Rice. We only tried this because so many of the other sides were sold out and man are we glad we did. Our family tore this side up! The mushroom parm gravy was smooth and creamy with large chunks of mushroom. Definitely a great addition to the sides list. Our family can't wait to go back and try more of what CBB has to offer. So glad they've got a brick and mortar restaurant now!

The pork came out dry and pretty flat on flavor, which was a letdown given the hype. The beef was fine -- nothing wrong with it, but nothing that made me want to reach for a second one either. The fish taco, though? That's the one. Crispy beer-battered fried fish tucked into warm corn tortillas, topped with red cabbage for crunch, fresh pico de gallo, cilantro, and a good squeeze of lime. Everything on it tasted fresh and it all came together in a way the other tacos just didn't. If I come back, I'm ordering fish and only fish. One thing that got me: $7 for a bag of chips. Seven dollars. For chips. Hard pass. Tip: skip the pork no matter what the menu tells you, order a variety so you don't get stuck with one option, and let the fish taco be the star it clearly wants to be.

I ordered: *Adobada Taco: Absolutely phenomenal. Probably one of the best adobada tacos I've ever had. The meat was perfectly cooked, incredibly flavorful, and well seasoned. *Carne Asada Taco: Another great taco. The carne asada was tender, well cooked, and packed with flavor. *Carnitas Taco: Also delicious, but probably my least favorite of the three. Still very good, just overshadowed by the other two. *Side of Carne Asada: For only $4, I ordered a bowl of carne asada for my pup. It was a huge portion, and she absolutely loved it, devoured it in no time. *Corona with Lime: The perfect pairing with the tacos. We grabbed a table outside where they have a nice little seating area in front. Our food came out in less than five minutes. The employee who brought it over even remembered my dog's name, which was such a nice touch. With tip, my total came to almost $25. The taco prices are an incredible value. I do think something may have been off with my bill because my food came to about $14.50, and I don't think a Corona costs $7. I should've paid closer attention before paying. Overall, this was a fantastic spot with amazing tacos and excellent service. The adobada taco is an absolute must-order, and I also love that they're so dog-friendly. I'll definitely be back!

I ordered 3 adobada, 1 carnitas, 3 carne asada, 3 cabeza, and 3 rolled tacos. All the tacos came with flour tortillas which were on the thicker side. The thickness of the tortillas were almost comparable to arepas. The adobada was flavorful but I'm used to other places adding guac which was not the case here. The cabeza was not as soft and fatty. The rolled tacos were just ok. There's a salsa bar in the back. They give you the sauce lids when you pay so it's a limited amount that you can help yourself to. There is a decent amount of seating available. In terms of cleanliness, this is not it.
