My family and I are frequent flyers at Crispy Waffle. We have had many different servers, some phenomenal and some not so great, food is always really good and coffee is always flowing! The restaurant is always clean! I was unable to give this a five star review because of the hostessing staff. Every single time we come in, the hostessing staff gives off an impression that they are extremely annoyed. They are very rude and so unfriendly! When we check out they hardly acknowledge that you are standing right in front of them. I have worked in the restaurant for several years as both a hostess and a server and I will admit it can be difficult but every single time we come in the hostesses have attitude! Consistent is the best word to describe this breakfast / lunch spot. Although I've never eaten lunch here the breakfast is always good as you would hope for. Nothing super special on the menu and the waffles are also just good. I don't like saying good vs. Great but this place is always good not great if that makes sense. Food portions are large for sure and service is always attentive in a typical diner waitress fashon. Lot of "sweetie", "honey", and "dear" names being used while getting served. Phenomenal service, even in a mad house on a Saturday morning. We came in a large group and all of our needs were attentively met. I had the gyro breakfast skillet and it was one of the best skillets I have ever eaten. For generic breakfast joints this place is one of the better ones I have been to. In search of old fashioned good ol' home cooked meals that you can't find in Chicago itself, we found ourselves yelping random cities along our trek out west this past weekend and stumbled upon Crispy Waffle. Apparently Crispy Waflle does. Unsure of what to couple this with - I mean does bacon really go with butter - isn't that almost overdoing it? and what about syrup? The momentary conundrum was solved when I opted for both atop the waffle. The anticipation was only heightened by the fact that I was huuuuuuuungry. Sadly to report, the long awaited bacon waffle barely raised my eyebrows and definitely did not send me into a tizzy. Now, we limited our intake because we had much food to consume in the hours to follow so in order to do this place justice, I will have to return, but when I do, I will not be ordering the bacon waffle. The other items on the menu were quite intriguing - full of fruit and ice cream and the like. One of my FAVORITE breakfast joints of all time!!! Conveniently located right off of rt 59, this place is always booming on the weekends, but even if it looks packed to bursting and there are people waiting outside, I have never encountered more than a 15 min wait. I always order the egg white broccoli and cheese omelette with home fries ( which are AMAZING!!!!) and wheat toast. The omelette is always cooked to perfection! The home fries are what really sets this place apart from any old breakfast place, they are amazingly flavorful!! My husband usually orders the pancakes, eggs and bacon, always amazing as well. Pancakes are nice and thin yet still fluffy with rich syrup, they are delightful! The waitstaff is always perky, pleasant and attentive!! I love the Crispy! Pros: Everything I have gotten here is excellent, the pumpkin pancakes are heavenly, the stuffed french toast is delish, the omelets are yummy,...! I go about twice a month (I wish more, I mention prices later). The decor is pleasing, and the place is always kept clean. My boyfriend loves the lunch options they have here though. I am always pleased with the food at the Crispy Waffle. Cons: The only negative thing I really can say about the place is that, to me (college student and seeminly always broke), I think the prices are a bit high, but I think they are reasonable in the sense that the food is noticeably homemade and the menu is kept small to ensure great, tasting, quality dishes. If I order hot tea though, I expect to get honey for it included, not 50 cents extra; first time I have been charged for a small packet of honey. Service is excellent and very friendly. Our server asked us several time if we wanted anything else. The reason they're receiving only three stars is because of my egg breakfast. The eggs were cooked just right but the sausage patties were mediocre, and the home fries were overcooked to the point of almost burnt. Let me start off by saying that our family used to enjoy this restaurant, but we won't be returning. My son, daughter and I went in for a late breakfast/early lunch. The waitress was very nice, the food was good (a bit pricey for what you get, but we knew that going in) - until my 10 yr old pulled what looked like a 1/2 in. long beard hair out out of her grilled cheese. I brought it to the waitresses attention and she apologized profusely and asked if my daughter wanted a new one, but she'd already eaten half and didn't want more (she felt sick after she found the hair, and to be honest, so did I). We asked for, and our waitress left to get, our check and when she got back, she said that the manager "wanted to let us know that she was sorry". No table visit, no removal of the grilled cheese from our bill - NOTHING. We weren't looking to be compensated, but the courtesy of a table visit from the manager is the very least they could have done. Not the waitress's fault, so I didn't complain any further: the manager not stepping up to personally apologize for that says it all! So, we just paid and left. There are way too many other great breakfast places around here to give this one another nickel of my money. read more

Love coming here for breakfast! We usually come here in Sundays, and there is always a large crowd and a line out the door, but even with the long line you are usually seated in no less than 15 min. But most people do go to breakfast on Sundays so its pretty much a given. You must try the Crab Cake Eggs Benedict! Its pretty amazing, as is the Carrot cake waffle made with cake batter and creme cheese frosting! Oooh and Stuffed French toast! She order the pancakes special and decided that she didn't want the pancakes and asked the waitress could she switch them out for wheat toast and she wouldn't give them to her, so we requested the manager and after waiting about 15 minutes she finally came over to our table and didn't make the situation any better. She said that we read the menu wrong and they would fix it this one time, but not again. We ordered our hash browns well done and twice they came back barely cooked. We waited 45 minutes for our food to come out the first time. We ordered Eggs Benedict, a skillet and two side orders of poached eggs. The eggs Benedict came with scrambled eggs and the poached eggs came out soft boiled. If our waitress had been nice about our problems it would have been okay, but she was so rude and put off that it made the entire experience awkward and uncomfortable.
