Got lucky on this one! I was searching for a winery with accommodations in Paso. As I drove up through vineyards and old oaks I felt instantly relaxed. Meeting owners Martin and Patty as we arrived set us at ease. Martin gave us several tips for day trips and sites and hikes in the area. the beautifully maintained grounds offered several outdoor seating options, many with fire tables, that added to the ambience of tasty wines and charcuterie board complimentary to inn guests. Our rooms were extremely clean and the bed was so comfortable. An added bonus was to have breakfast in the morning. Granola, yogurt, fresh fruits, excellent bread and cheese, oatmeal, juice and fresh coffee. On our last morning Rosie made waffles and chatted with us about life in the area. Our three night stay was perfect. We will be back! read more

Excellent wine served by a friendly staff atop a hill with beautiful scenery! We brought our own charcuterie tray from a local cheese store and visited Croad for their special "kiwi hour" 50% off selected wines by the glass. What a lovely way to relax. I especially liked the Viognier. We highly recommend this place. Took the long way to get here which made for a pleasant drive through quaint tree lined roads. A++ read more

Croad is one of those wineries I've somehow managed to miss. Luckily, we were treated an amazing special experience with the owner, Martin for our dear friend's bachelorette. Martin went above and beyond with his behind the scene's tour. Not only was it interesting, but it was hilariously entertaining. Martin is a riot! The venue itself is gorgeous and perfect to bring a picnic. Which is exactly what we did by ordering for Red Scooter Deli. The wines were big and bold - something my palate isn't always appreciative of. But the variety was impressive and the amount of heart and character here left me with a positive experience. read more

Wine is very good however this particular day an event was going to take place and service was non existence. We came here to buy a bottle of Sangovaise. We paid upfront for tasting but didnt get to finish it as not enough workers. A new person started but didn't ask were we at in the flight went to wipe down glasses instead. Left without buying a bottle that we wanted for dinner. They didn't even notice we left. Perhaps you should close tastings when events take place??? read more

First time winetasting at Croad. Truly, every wine on the list is very good. Winemaker Martin Croad brings the best from each grape, including Mourvèdre, Zin, petite Syrah, at this 100% dry farmed winery. Great wines, and inviting tasting room with Marina overseeing. Glass of 2012 Zinfandel Pure on the patio overlooking the valley with a dear friend and winery cat Brix. This is a great-flavored day :). read more

We found this winery by accident. We pulled into the street off the highway and the winery there was a bit too crowded. We saw sigbs saying more wineries up the road. We decided to check it out and ended up on top of the hill at Croad. We were happy to hear we had gotten there during Kiwi Hour where glasses were half off! SCORE! A fantastic tasting room and location that warns ahead of time "Aussies stay away!" - Kiwi pride FTW! As a Flight of the Conchords and LOTR movie fan, I appreciated the New Zealand heritage of the place. There are some very interesting Zins in the Paso Robles region, and Croad has an excellent example in their '05 Zin. Friendly server, (best of luck with the architecture degree!) fine wines, and I appreciated that they just started opening on Thursdays - it made for another great Paso Robles stop after L'Aventure. People, Paso has tons of outstanding wineries - you almost can't lose here - and well deserves your visit. I hope its distance from SF and LA shields it from becoming too popular, of course. read more

I was totally ready to write a review for this place and give it 2-3 stars. First, this winery has one of the best views in Paso Robles. Two other wineries, Daou and Mondo also have equally beautiful views, but for me Croad has the most beautiful view. The grounds and tasting room are equally beautiful. Where I felt disappointed, was the tasting. The pours here are not just the smallest I've seen in Paso Robles, but anywhere I've tasted. They had to be sub one ounce. As usual my wife and I shared a tasting, and after I took the first taste, I realized there was almost nothing left in the glass. From that point forward, we were taking really small sips. I neglected to take notes here, but I do recall we tasted 5 wines including a Sauvingon Blanc, a Syrah and a Zin. The Sauvingon Blanc was very good, but I wasn't looking for white wine on this trip. This is also the wine where my wife got virtually nothing. The Syrah was good enough that I decided to take a bottle, the Zin was nothing special. The tasting was $5, and we were accidentally charged for 2 tastings, so they threw in a glass. So what changed my rating? Well, my wife was out of town, and I was looking for something to open with dinner the other night. I knew she was less of a Syrah fan than I, so I opened the Croad Syrah (2009). Wow! I really liked it. It was very reminiscent of Australian Shirazs that I happen to like. Now I'm feeling like I should have bought several bottles. Further, knowing my wife she probably would have liked the Sauvingon Blanc, and insisted that we buy some of that too. So, to Croad... Pour just a little more wine for your tastings. Give your customers the opportunity to experience your wine. I will be back, and I'll be looking for some Syrah and Sauvingon Blanc! read more

I came here at the last minute on a recommendation, and I'm really glad I did! It was a little bit hard to find because it's hidden aways back through the roads (and my GPS almost mislead me), but keep an eye out for their signs and you should be able to find it up the hill. The place is BEAUTIFUL. The outdoor patio area is amazing, and would be great for a picnic. Inside, you can still appreciate the views thanks to their large windows. The tasting was $10 for 5-6 wines, and they were all very enjoyable. You can also get wines by the glass if you prefer. Both the owner and the other staff member were very friendly, and I loved my experience there. Also, they have a "kiwi hour" where their wines by the glass are 50% off. I *think* it was 2-3pm. I can't wait to come back and check out their inn :) read more

Been here twice and both times I loved it First time was in March 2016 on a girls weekend and it was raining so hard. They had the fire going, we drank wine, it was bliss. Of course we left with wine, and Martin even signed the bottles for us. Second time was for one of the sausage sizzles in August 2016 and again just had the best time. Martin was chatting, the winery was buzzing, the sun was shining and of course we left with more wine. Will visit Croad every time I am down in Paso. Their wine is delicious, their hospitality is marvelous and I've had nothing but a wonderful time here every visit. read more

My wife and I just got home from celebrating our Silver Anniversary with a 3 night stay at Croad. No review can do this place (and owner) Justice. The rooms are a retreat. The grounds are stunning. Breakfast is like eating with friends. And the wine and cheese every day of your stay is a delight. Martin Croad dry farms, he lets the grapes do the talking. He makes concentrated yet refined Zinfandel (which is my strong recommendation, the Silver Fern). You feel like you are in another world, yet downtown Paso is a short drive (or Uber) away. You may need that Uber, his wines pack a kick. Shout out to Rosie, who does the Housekeeping and makes the breakfast. If I lived nearby, I'd go often. We are on the East Coast. We'll certainly go back. read more

I've been to Croad more times than I can count, and always marvel at how such a small crew can tend to so many different needs/people at once, and (nearly always) deliver a very special experience. From the warm tasting room, to the relaxing Inn, to custom dinners, to major events where too many people are stressed beyond belief... Croad makes the winemaking/Inn-keeping/event-hosting gig look easy, which it is anything but. Martin also has a knack for wine-making, leaning a bit towards tartness over tannin to achieve bottles that compliment a range of food, and from observed experience bring a smile to many a palate Highly recommended. read more

A fabulous time was had by all 10 of us while staying in their wonderful villa. Four large bedrooms with private bathrooms, a downstairs living and dining room, cozy fireplace, gourmet kitchen, along with gorgeous views of the beautiful rolling hills of Paso Robles to be seen from every window in this most amazing villa! The owner/proprietor Mr. Croad himself, so very gracious, made sure we had everything we needed to make this such a memorable weekend, including his estate grown wines. Beautiful place, but they are not taking all the COVID precautions I would expect during these times. While we were there, they hosted massive groups of people on tour buses, and the woman that served us kept taking her mask off while pouring the wine and talking to us about the different varieties. read more
