Where should I begin on this place.? I have been to this diner twice and I had bad service each time. My most recent visit was the worst. My bf and I stood waiting for someone to seat us but we were ignored by the hostess until eventually we were told we could find our own seats. Later other patrons were seated by the hostess... still not sure if her rudeness was deliberate or not. The elderly waitress abruptly asked us what we wanted to drink and had a snippy attitude when my bf had questions about the menu. I would have over looked a few things if the food had been good but it wasn't. My boyfriends pancakes were not cooked very well and a little on the soggy side. My meal was ok but the sausage tasted odd. I didn't bother asking the waitress what kind of sausage it was because she disappeared after delivering our food. She had to be relocated by a lone friendly waiter for the check. She even stood over us while while my boyfriend filled in the tip. One word of advice- Skip this dinner and got to Esquire diner... you will get good service there! read more

Their food is "ok". The French toast is nothing but toasted bread with a hint of cinnamon. The syrup is nasty and tastes cheap. The orange juice tastes cheap but like they added a hint of fresh Oj to trick you. The scrambled eggs are runny. The prices could be cheaper for all of that! A child could've made this at home. The waiter took forever to bring us the check. Don't let them pack your food because they put their fingers on it and other dirty dishes on top of it. I'll pass on this place. I have been eyeing this diner for several years, and finally decided to go over there yesterday for a test run. I had always been impressed by the crowds heading into the place, plust the filled parking lot regularly at all times and during all days.... my thought was, if there were people there during a slow time, then during prime times, they were even busier, meaning that foods generally are fresher and delivered often to the business. I went with my son, I ordered the stuffed whole flounder dinner. He had an unusual order of cheese blintez and sweet potato fries. Initial impressions, very clean and well-lit. I read some of the reviews that said service was questionable, but I found the service excellent from the busboys to the waiters to the person who seated us. To me, the most important thing, though is quality of food and preparation. Wow is all I can say, they really surprised me. My salad was really good, soup filled with good stuff and tasty, too. Even the side dishes were good, how often do we find THAT in a diner, let alone any other restaurant?? My main disth was very well presented with no bones, trimmed very neatly and prepared well and very tasty. My son's blintes were very nice. Even the drinks did not disappoint. As I looked around at the diners, most seemed very content, portions are excellent. Perhaps this was a fluke? I don't think so. This is one of the best diners I've been to in many years. I don't know what the NY diner experience is like but down south diners are greasy, buttery,fattening, full of sodium and hangover joints! ...or after church type hangouts. Unfortunately, this place missed the mark for me. I even tried going during different hours of the day...late at night with a lil' buzz and then again during daylights. The first time I ordered a typical Marianne b-fast, two sunny side up eggs, hash browns, and toast...I was disappointed that I couldn't find the grits. But I know we up north so a buttery toast was a substitute. Second time around I got a veggie omelette, it was okay. The bf got a meaty breakfast off eggs, bacon and sausage with toast. He enjoyed it but I suppose it's pretty hard to mess that up. Either way, I would probably go back because it's one of the few place near my neck of the woods open 24/7 but I rather stay home and cook breakfast if it really came down to it. On the upside, the staff is pretty friendly and fast. And for being Howard Beach...parking is actually pretty smooth but then again they do have their own lot. Average diner, I feel like I said this about every diner but it's just so true! We arrived there on a Sunday at around noon desperately looking for food because we skipped breakfast. We were seated immediately, however after being seated we waited for a good 15 minutes before a waitress came to get our orders. We did get water and menus from a bus boy, but I already knew what I wanted and wish they would've came by quicker to take our orders, this is extremely important when you're trying to get a 2 year old to sit patiently and wait for their pancakes. After taking out order the food this more than average to come out, the place was super packed at the time so that's understandable. We ordered two burger deluxe which come with fries, lettuce, tomatoes and cheese, 2 soft drinks and silver dollar pancakes for the baby. All together the bill was around $44 with out top. Crossbay diner has been around forever ! And they never seem to fail me. Serving breakfast , lunch and dinner . No matter what day of the week or time , the service is always outstanding . Eilane , cute woman with curly blonde hair, great server . Very attentive and maintains a wonderful smile! But enough about her , more about the food . Crossbay club is a must, a triple decker club sandwich (bacon and chicken) with a house chipotle sauce! The service here is great! and so is the food! I came here on a Sunday afternoon with a few friends for lunch... even though I ordered breakfast. Honestly, any place that serves breakfast all day gets at least one thumbs up from me :-) I ordered the callah bread french toast with eggs (over easy) and canadian bacon. Everything was perfection! Not one single complaint about the food. All of it was absolutely dee-lish (my favorite non-word lol). Unfortunately, I wasn't able to finish it all, as you know bread can be very filling. Not many true diners left in NYC. Drive by this place all the time, and finally stopped in due to lack of diners closer in Rockaway and South Brooklyn. I am glad I did. The breakfast was worth it. The place was busy but able to sit right away. The place is clean, and staff is attentive and friendly. It seems like most of the customers are regulars which is a good sign. The order was taken promptly and food brought out unbelievably quick. The food was hot and portion was huge. Coffee was good and refills not a problem. It's good to have a diner like this which is always a good fall back place to eat, and will satisfy everybody. I don't know where to start with this diner. Let's start with there customer service. Our waiter was horrible! When she came to take our order everything was fine. But once we placed our order we didn't see her again till the food came out she didn't check on us or let us know that our food was almost done or anything. Me and my friend went to lunch today 12/26/18 and all was good. When the bill came they charged us $6.50 for 2 seltzer's. I have been to nicer and more expensive restaurants and they didn't charge for seltzer. I asked for the manager and he finally came over after awhile. Stumbled in here last night after RV Rooftop down the block. Service was mediocre at best, food came quickly. Ordered a gyro which came with 3 small strips of dried out aged processed gyro meat in a massive pita. Note to owner - if you are going to skimp out on the gyro meat, better get a smaller pita so it looks proportionate. Fries with melted mozzarella were decent and so was the gravy. Came here for brunch with my fiance last Saturday after running some errands on Crossbay Blvd. We were set on dining at Crossbay Diner, but out of curiosity, I searched for surrounding diners on Yelp. To my utter surprise, Crossbay Diner was my only result! It makes complete sense why it was so packed when we stepped in. Not only that, the diner is open 24/7, has plenty of seating, and the food and service are on point. I was craving some runny eggs, so I ordered 2 over easy eggs with pastrami on multigrain toast, whereas my fiance ordered 2 sunny side up with corned beef hash and multigrain toast. My eggs were perfecto! The oozing yolk on my toast and pastrami hit the spot. Not to mention, both dishes came with shredded potato, which satisifed my craving for some potatoes and ketchup :). My only complaint was the coffee wasn't bold enough for me. It was rather weak and lacked the aroma that a good cup of java needs. We also suggest that the menu clearly state what our dish is sided with, as my fiance wouldnt have ordered his hash if he knew the dish was going to be accompanied with potato. My eggs were cooked perfectly and my request for melted cheddar cheese on my hash browns was honored with no trouble. I live nearby, so I've come here for years. It's my fav diner in Queens. I always seem to come here on the busiest holidays, and we always still get seated with pretty good service. The food is great, the menu is huge and I always kind of order the same things (french toast, omelette, waffle fries, pancakes, iced coffee, etc.). One particular time I came with my cousin who was visiting from Florida. He was going through the loss of his mother, and we were having quality time. Our server LOUISA was the kindest, sweetest, and happiest woman. Her energy and personality alone cheered my cousin up. He is a picky eater and very particular, and she had SO much patience with us! As a teen, I loved this place but things have changed. The customer service is horrendous. I asked for sweet tea and was given iced tea but I guess the difference is only acknowledged in the South. My French toast was tasteless and bacon was cooked with something with cheese, as it was stuck together on one side. Went at brunch time on a Sunday so it was very crowded but only a 10 minute wait. Started out with the French onion soup, which was good but a little to salty (only reason for 4 stars). Had the steak and cheese hero-awesome! Steak was tender and cheese was hot and gooey like good cheese is supposed to be. My mom had an open faced hot roast beef sandwich. She said it was really good. We both had enough left overs to eat dinner. The menu is huge so we'll be going back to try more. This is our Sunday diner spot.. And maybe some other days too when we feel like binging on waffle fries with cheese on top and a side of gravy. Service is great and food is good. Definitely enjoy their new decor- diner food with a bit of a modern feel. Place is open 24/7 and they even deliver as far as Ozone Park.
