The restaurant was clean and inviting and the smell made our mouths water. The staff were pleasant and attentive. The Napa Valley salad was chock full of fresh greens, turkey, almonds and other yummy things. The accompanying raspberry vinaigrette was delicious. We also split a Californian panini. I had egg salad on a pita. The pita was the freshest and tastiest I've ever had. The egg salad was the worst I've ever had. It was a bit dry and very tasteless. Also a skimpy serving. I certainly won't be having it again. Also, the cashier got my order wrong. I ordered lightly toasted and it came cold. I also ordered a cup of soup which didn't make it on the order. There really is a lot of variety and the people are nice. Sometimes they can come across as short in their responses but that's when there is a big lunch rush and they are understaffed. I used to love Croutons but the quality & customer service has down while the price for a salad has increased. Actually listening to customer requests has gone by the wayside as well. A couple of months ago I submitted an email through their online contact form after finding 5 romaine stem ends in my half chopped salad. I received no follow up communication or acknowledgement of my submission. I took a break from eating there and decided to go in today. I called the order in and when I went to the appropriate register for pick up, I stood there for many minutes before being acknowledged. Mercedes was helping someone else at the order in register and the other girl was helping someone at the soda machine, Lindsey I think? When Lindsey was done helping the other customer she walked right past me without saying a word, acknowledging me, or making eye contact. She went to the register Mercedes had been at and started helping the next customer. All along I am staring at my salad ready, in the cooler directly in front of me. After Mercedes walked past I asked if I was at the right register for picking up call in orders, she said yes, and then finally began helping me. No smile, it really seemed like I was bothering her by paying for and picking my order up. Next, I had requested the dressing to be placed on the side outside of the container when I called in the order. They always put the dressing inside the container. Where do you think it was when I got the salad? That's right, inside the container, just as I had specifically requested them not to do. This has happened to me on numerous occasions. Clearly they do not care about the customer. Finally, I got home to dig in to my salad and all of the lettuce pieces are the inside yellow and white pieces of the romaine heart. I'm struggling to find any green romaine lettuce in this salad. And, to top it all off, I had 4 romaine stem bottoms this time, not 5! I'm pretty sure I won't be going back to Croutons any time soon and certainly won't be recommending them to anyone. They are incredibly stingy with their salad ingredients and I don't recall it being this bad before. After a few visits to the Bend and Redmond locations I finally decided to ask about portioning. I was told that I was given the correct portion of olives and that portion is "3 olives cut In half". I won't be returning again. Hubby and I eat a plant-based diet, so we requested a mandarin chicken salad minus the chicken, and they let us swap it with garbanzo beans so we didn't have to go without protein. I ordered the full Mediterranean salad and a cup of tomatoe soup! Both were so yummy! I couldn't finish the full size which is huge. The only reason I am giving this place a 4 instead of 5 is because on a Saturday they only had one employee working the front. She was clearly overwhelmed since they place was packed. Also, I saw her working the cash register, take money, then place a brownie on a plate. I'm pretty sure you can't do that. I'm pretty sure touching money then touching food is a big no no. I love Croutons and all other locations get 5 stars but the Redmond location is not up to par. I messaged the location and owners via the website about cleanliness. I am a huge ice tea guy and it's another reason why I like croutons so much and also why they are getting two stars(food is still amazing and a great value) but after getting a mucus blob and spitting out my drink I will not go back to this location. I have no idea what snot like substance ended up in my mouth from the ice tea(not the mango one, it was the other flavor). But the container was not cleaned and absolutely disgusting which makes me wonder about the food prep here. It has been over a month with no response so this review is fully earned at this point.
