Crown's gets a bad rap probably often due to high expectations, comparisons to gourmet fried chicken or people hoping its even a good chicken chain. Or maybe it's always located in bad neighborhoods hence why I only go here or the Chinatown location. People usually always complain about their regular fried chicken but they are ordering the wrong thing. The hot wings are what me and my wife go and order when we have that sudden urge for that "crack chicken" or "ghetto wangs" and you cannot fulfill these urges at any respectable establishment. Chinese takeouts are probably the only comparable solution for that crack chicken. You know your sodium, cholesterol, and blood pressure will be through the roof afterwards but you just don't care. I ordered them through door dash and asked specifically can I have all white meat chicken. They sent me all white meat along with two extra wings like I was supposed to be happy for the extra old chicken they sent me. It was the last of the chicken that was sitting there all day and re-fried. I called the location and if they had all white meat, he replied "yes." I responded so I ordered through door dash, so why did you send me all dark meat and he hung up on me. The condition the food was in, I wouldn't feed it to a dog. First time at Crown Fried Chicken and picked it due to some positive notes in the reviews. Did an Uber Eats order for some Hot Wings for pickup and popped over to grab them. The staff was very nice, but the place is a bit rough on the eyes. I caused a bit of a confusion asking about the drink that came with the order and was given a two piece chicken order with a fountain drink (at my expense). Normally I would have cleared up the confusion, but said OK to try their regular fried chicken in addition to the wings. The chicken came with a regular biscuit. I prefer the biscuits from Popeyes or KFC a lot more. This was more of a dinner roll which isn't as nice. The chicken was a good cut with little bone and was a nice size for a breast, but the flavor wasn't as good as Popeyes. I wouldn't call it amazing, but I would say it is adequate. The wings were the lowest point in the meal which was a shame since they rated well in the reviews. They were extremely salty. It came with fries and a can soda which was good as I needed both the fountain drink and the can soda to make a dent in the wings. They were smaller sized wings as well compared to traditional wings at other places. But the salt was too much to allow me to enjoy them. It was an interesting experience. But I will stick to Popeyes or KFC. Although the staff was very nice I felt the food quality is not that great. read more

That lone star is for their Mac & Cheese. One day I was walking home from class and had a huge craving for some Mac & Cheese. I hadn't eaten yet that day and I had a long, cold walk ahead of me. I remembered that I pass a Crown Fried Chicken on my way home and assumed that they would have a Mac & Cheese side dish or something. When I finally make my way down Broad and into the place, low and behold they have some Mac & Cheese! I was so excited! I rush the rest of the way home and open up the food container. It smelled kinda funky... But I disregarded this initial reaction and tried a bite. yuck. YUCK. YUCK! It was luke-warm, way to thick & heavy, and tasted like bitter old cheese... I love how they advertise fresh healthy salads that have fried chicken or fried shrimp. FAIL. Anyway, this review is more for the Crown Fried Chicken patrons. Why must you be so ghetto and throw all your chicken bones and trash on the ground? There is a freakin trash can right outside the damn place. Please properly throw out your trash/waste. Drunk. Hungry. And upset. On a piece of paper that they taped to their bullet proof glass (classy), says 2 drumsticks + fries for 2.95. I was there at 1 am, and requested such a excellent priced offer. They didn't have anymore. Really? Alright... I guess I'll leave. My roommate arrives home with that special. I asked him how did that happened, and he said that he gave the guy an extra dollar and got what he wanted. My roommate was polite to give me one, and it was bitter. Whatever else you get with the chicken when you order delivery is going to be too, just know that it's a surprise every time. 3 times I've ordered the 15 piece meal which should have a side and mashed potatoes and 3 biscuits. Every time it's come with just, whatever. 2 potatoes and 3 rice and 2 biscuits. No potatoes, no rice and 10 biscuits. 4 potatoes and 100 napkins. But also every time it's like 18-23 pieces of chicken. Once it was 17 drumsticks. They were all delicious tho. If you order delivery, which is done through doordash, just don't be surprised if you get some random things and lots of really delicious chicken. read more

Best drunk food in south philly. Chicken is great (crispy, better than KFC, popeyes, etc) and cheap. Sides are cheap as well (mac and cheese, fries are the best). Shady characters come in and out and the cashier is blocked by bulletproof glass. ATM prints bills that resemble counterfeit money (thin, hard, $10 bills once a few weeks back).
