I called over an hour ago to make sure I could drop my car off a couple hours early for an oil change and get a ride home. Over an hour and a half later I am still sitting in what they call a service area with no ride... Last time I was here I couldn't get someone to help me find the car I had to go to Kansas City to buy. I owned a 2015 Honda Accord and never had any issues like this at Jack Ellena Honda (now Dale Wiley Honda). I don't know what's going on here, if they don't like colored people, or if they are just lazy. Either way I am one unsatisfied customer and I haven't even got my car back yet. read more

My husband and I just purchased our dream car as we move into the retirement phase of our lives. We had done much research on the internet and determined that a new Toyota Sienna was the vehicle for us. Comfortable space for us, easy access to the vehicle as we get older, plus space for our dog, our friends and my husband's golf clubs! We live in Lawrence, Kansas and Crown Toyota is our local dealer so we started our search in our own backyard on a Saturday and by Tuesday we were the proud owners of a new vehicle. At Crown, we met David Wilson and he made everything so easy. We looked at the Siennas in stock, test drove one and discussed the pros and cons of a 7-passenger versus 8-passenger van. We made the decision to purchase a 7-passenger XLE in Salsa Red with a Grey interior. David did research and found that specific car was not in Crown Toyota's possession. Further research revealed the exact car needed at an Illinois Toyota Dealership. Crown secured the vehicle and by Monday night the car had been trailered to Lawrence. Crown Toyota service is just AWFUL! We bought a new Sienna. At 3,500 miles we hit a deer. 6 weeks before they could start on it. 2 weeks to fix it. Came to pick it up and collision manager walks us out and stops in his tracks. Paint doesn't match. Another few days and we pick it up. Windshield wipers don't work. My wife takes it back. Collision department claims it wasn't the result of the accident, never mind it worked on the day we brought it in. It has 3,500 miles on it - covered by warranty regardless. Collision department gets in a disagreement with service department as they debate who ought to fix it. 2 hours later my wife calls me at wits end. I call the dealership and speak to GM who promised to walk back and get somebody to fix it. Why on earth a customer had to be the victim of two departments who can't get along in beyond me. Today I go in for an oil change. I arrive at 10:20 for a 10:30 appointment. Tech says it will be 1:30 to change the oil. I told him I had a 10:30 appt. doesn't matter apparently. 40+ minutes later at 11:05 I go back and there's no progress. Still 7-8 cars in front of me. Clearly the 1:30 time frame is bogus. Get the keys and leave. I called the guy we bought it from and tell him my problem. Told him the car we buy to replace this one definitely won't be a Toyota. He goes back to talk to the service manager. I get a call from the service manager. She proceeds to tell me they can't seem to hire enough lube technicians. I ask why this is my problem? She's not sure. She says they are really busy today. I ask why she scheduled my appointment today? No response. I suggested she should have told me the earliest appointment was X days away when she had sufficient staff on board. I told her my expectation is that when I make an appointment for X time, I expect that within a few minutes a tech will start working on the car. I have never experienced such crappy service at the Ford dealer, but unfortunately there are only two choices these days for a mini van, Toyota and Honda. When we replace this it will be a Honda I'm pretty sure. We will try again tomorrow with a new appointment scheduled for 8 AM. She has promised the tech will start on it immediately. I guess we'll see. read more

Will definitely not be coming back anytime soon! Sold me a 2008 Camry for $8,000 telling me what an amazing car it was. After only weeks it started having issues. First the engine started making noises, then the windows stopped working. When I took it back they told me the damages were from "regular user wear" so they were not covered under warranty. After only 3 months I decided to return the car. When I went to trade it in, they offered me $2,800! I was outraged. Do not trust these people. Will definitely not be coming back. Great experience at Crown Toyota. We drove to the Lawrence dealership from Topeka to give them a try and check their large inventory of Tacoma trucks. Even though we had searched their inventory online and handed our customer representative, Myk Barta, the description of what we wanted, he still took the time to make sure this is what we wanted and if it would satisfy our needs. Very helpful and courteous. Would go back should we need another vehicle. Had a little lengthy wait to sign and pay for the vehicle, but we'll put the blame on the computer system. I had a great experience at Crown. Zack K. was exceptionally helpful in helping me choose a vehicle and patiently explaining features/alternatives. In the end, I received a more-than-fair price on my car. The only odd thing is they don't do certification of used vehicles (which is the default at some other dealerships). If you want certification it costs extra and has to be done later. The other thing I didn't know was that if you try to finance with your own bank, you cannot take possession vehicle until the check arrives in the mail (in my case that would be several days). So, I we ended up financing with Crown. Luckily they were able to match the rate I received from my bank. read more

Extremely kind and personable, no pressure, knowledgeable and worked with my schedule on several occasions. I cannot recommend him highly enough. Top notch, professional businessman. 5+ stars for Mr. Wilson. 4 star (not 5-star) review for the dealership as a whole because we found a bunch of stuff in our purchase agreement that was not pointed out to us at signing. I know it's on me to read through what I'm signing. However, in my opinion, business integrity calls for the provider to ensure the customer knows what they are paying for. There were several add-ons whose features and services were discussed, but not priced. So we were very surprised to go back and realize that we'd bought some service packages without even knowing it! Once again, on me to read what I sign, but I thought they could have done a better job in the business office of ensuring that I knew what I was paying for. I recommend this dealership to anyone looking to buy a vehicle. If you ask for David Wilson, you will be very happy with your shopping experience. Just be ready to put your guard up when you step inside the business office. Read and re-read because they won't itemize your purchase agreement verbally. You need to look at the itemized charges for yourself and ask questions. Don't assume that what's on the paperwork will match what you've worked out with your salesman. They will tell you all about the services and protections being provided to you, but won't point out that each of those things is a cost add-on. Outside of that, everyone (including the business office) was very friendly and easy to work with. This is my second vehicle I've purchased from Crown, and for the second time they have surpassed my expectations. It's also the second time that Kent Lee has assisted us in our purchase. I can't say enough good things about Kent. He goes above and beyond to ensure that the vehicles we have purchased were the the right vehicle for us. He didn't pressure us to buy. He didn't bombard us with emails and phone calls...unlike other dealerships in town. I told him I was interested in a vehicle that they had for sale and asked him about the options. He brought the vehicle across town to my house for me to test drive. I told him what I wanted my payments to be and he MADE it happen. I got the vehicle I wanted with the options I wanted at the price I wanted. Another seemingly little thing that he did was send us hand written letter after our purchase. You see, my two young boys were upset that I was trading in my old pickup for this vehicle. I had mentioned it to Kent when he was drawing up the paperwork. In his letter he mentioned it and he said he'd keep track of where it ended up after it was sold. I'm sure that by the time he sells it my boys won't really care about that old truck, but it helped them get over the fact the "their" truck was gone. Since they read that letter they have only mentioned the truck a couple of times. They absolutely love the new vehicle and ask to take it whenever we go anywhere. It was a small thing but to my boys it was huge. I recommend Crown to anyone that is shopping for a vehicle. Specifically it was a higher mileage 4Runnner; under the hood it is in great condition with 1 owner and serviced at Crown. Needed new tires so they swapped out with new wheels and tires!! For used vehicles I recommend the peace of mind of adding a MBPI warranty (I added 60k mi coverage for $50/mo) beyond the Crown warranty (which is limited to 3 mo / 3k mi coverage with a 50% cost split). read more

Great dealer with outstanding customer service. This is now the second vehicle that I've bought from Kegan at Crown Toyota/Volkswagen, and I can't thank him and the staff enough. Both times that I purchased vehicles, there were several complications to trading in my vehicle (from my own circumstances) and the staff was kind and patient, and willing to find ways to make it work. Despite my apprehension, they were not at all pushy or gimmicky in their sales, and their finance manager was very upfront and honest. I have dealt with several dealerships and most of them were average to deal with. Crown Toyota seems to have gotten the big picture. The big picture as in "working with a customer to get what the customer wants and treat the customer as though they are a priority" One of the things I am most impressed with is the fact that it does not matter if you buy new or used and also it does not matter how you are dressed or what you look like, you are treated with total respect. The lack of integrity of this dealership is shocking. I paid almost $2100 for a repair and within 2 1/2 days it had broken down again, and it seems that what they fixed was not the actual issue. I was driving across country and broke down in Kansas, so I was in North Carolina when my Prius broke down again after their supposed repair. The NC dealership told me that my car had been misdiagnosed at Crown Toyota so I called and talked to Carl, the Service Manager at Crown to get his help with this problem and get my money reimbursed since their repairs did not work. Carl was rude and condescending to me on the phone, and had absolutely no interest in talking to the service representatives in NC to find out what they knew. He would not give me a name of his boss to speak to, or anyone else that I could talk to in order to get help with my issue. He was actually quite mean and abrupt. I placed a complaint with Toyota Corporate, but unfortunately, it comes down to the integrity of the Service Dept at Crown Toyota in order for them to do the right thing and reimburse me. They seem to have no interest in looking into the problem or making this right in any way. The rude service I received when I paid my bill was disappointing, but not enough for me to bother writing a review on Yelp. Unfortunately, customer service is not a priority for this dealership. However, I felt compelled to write a review due to the lack of integrity and dishonesty. The condescension and unwillingness to even deal with their mistake is not ok and I felt I must share a review so that hopefully others will not end up in the same situation. Go anywhere else to get your car fixed, if you do not want to possibly end up in a similar situation. UPDATE: Once you file a complaint with Toyota Corporate, the dealership has 48 hours to contact you. This dealership did not contact me. When I called Corporate a week later to find out what was up, they called Carl, the Service Manager at Crown Toyota who said he refused to talk to me about the issue as he felt he already had dealt with it. Apparently Carl also would not talk to the phone support at Corporate about my issue, and now it's being sent to a Supervisor at Toyota Corporate. I am really and truly amazed at the lack or professionalism, or even common courtesy exhibited by this particular employee. It is very upsetting that a business would let an employee behave this way. Again, if you want to go to a dealership with integrity and professional, do NOT go to Crown Toyota. read more

I can't believe I'm leaving a 5-star review for a car dealer...these people have dashed all my preconceived negative notions about car dealerships. We bought a used Lexus from Kegan Radcilff, who is one of the best salesman I've ever encountered (in any industry): prompt, intelligent, attentive, arranged for the car to go to our own mechanic for a check-over, had all the paperwork done upfront, had the vehicle detailed and even called days after the purchase to make sure all was well. If I had a business that needed a salesman, I'd hire this young man in a NY minute. The paperwork was finished up through two other young men, Josh and Chase - who were also excellent, (although are dealings were less with them). All in all, if these young men are representative of Crown Toyota's staff, the company is extremely good at choosing employees. Worst customer service I have had in a long time from Carl the Service Manager. From the moment my wife walked in to pick up the vehicle Carl was EXTREMELY rude to her. The payment was already made but apparently he was too incompetent to realize it was paid for. She called me to talk to him and he was just very unpleasant and hard to work with. His initial reaction to everything is "no we can't do that". Once Tony one of the other service techs came in and cleared everything up, and showed where it was paid for, he never once apologized or thanked us for the business, he just walked away and would not even look my wife in the eye. read more

Terrible experience, buyer beware! This dealership will simply make up problems about your car in an effort to turn a profit "fixing" them. I bought a Toyota Sienna from them. I got into an accident, and they charged me $7,000 to fix my car. A month later I decided to trade in my car and get a different one. How much did they offer me? $500! This sorta begs the question, if a car is worth $500, how can you urge a customer to spend $7,000 fixing it? I was completely blindsided. They told me I should have done my own research before agreeing to the "repairs." I will never recommend this place to anyone else, very sleezy and unethical salesmen. read more

Before I start to talk why Crown Toyota in Lawrence is the best dealership, I have to tell you "How I Met My Dealer." While I was Facebooking to look around the "free and for sale" group in KU Facebook group page, I saw someone frequently uploading pretty decent cars for sale. At that time, I was kind of searching a new car with a great mpg (like toyota prius) because I commute from Lawrence to KC everyday (100 crazy miles a day). Anyway, his postings intrigued me and I contacted him through Facebook chatting. What a new technology! He was the first guy I met who sells cars through Facebook. Right away, I made an appointment with him and test-drove a prius but I did not end up with purchasing the car at first visit. After a month later, I was still searching for a car and finally found one at Crown Toyota. I contacted and met him again. He was always so humble, kind, and very honest. I test-drove the car and decided to purchase it. However, you know, buying a car doesn't mean go and get it. It's more like a battle sometimes. I have owned two cars (dodge and hyundai) in the last 5 years, which means I know how dealers work and how they negotiate the price. I was not an easy customer. While we were negotiating the price, honestly I felt he was always on my side. He and his boss completely cared about me from the price to the finance, even though financing was little tough because I am not a permanent resident, but we finally made the deal. He was such a BEAST of selling cars. He cares from A to Z. Finally, I am so happy now that I got a great 2013 Prius Three. I am so thankful for his help throughout the entire process! They were so friendly and honest! Also, on another occasion, I took my car in to get detailed and they did such a thorough and amazing job on it! I did a ton of research online before making the drive from Kansas City to Lawrence, but they had the perfect truck for me at a very reasonable price. I didn't realize I was walking in 20 minutes before they close for the day, but my sales and finance guys were great and stayed late to make sure I didn't have to make another trip out. The process was easy, negotiation was only mildly irritating (which is saying a lot for buying a $40K vehicle), and both guys I worked with were personable and professional. I walked in knowing the vehicle I was interested in was already priced on the low end of what KBB and TrueCar suggested, so with very little negotiation, I didn't feel sodomized when I drove off the lot, which again, is saying a lot for buying a vehicle. read more

If you would like to be talked about behind your back this is the place to go. Went in and had made it clear my time is very valuable. The car I requested was being driven by the GM's wife and was not at the dealership when I arrived for my appointment that was made because the wife was "picking up her kids from school in it." I made clear my expectations and if they couldn't meet them not to waste my time. They didn't even come close and then when I said I was leaving walked into one of the, I assume managers, yelling "She thinks I'm 8 grand off?!" In a very rude manner as she didn't think I could or would hear her. I had made my expectations clear and the salesperson didn't listen nor care as he was trying to upsell me a car I didn't want and then had to hear them literally talking crap about me. Talked to the GM after and was told they never operate that way. Yeah I'm sure it's the first time that lady has acted like that behind someone's back. Terrible experience read more

The test drive and vehicle selection was great. Thanks Dave Wilson! The finance side, however, is fraught with lies and plenty of time spent getting you to buy service contracts financed at $67/month ($4959.62 @ 3.1% for 60 months; your number will vary based on the vehicle, purchase price, single vs. joint buyer (e.g. for credit disability), and down payment plus trade-in value). They will do everything to de-emphasize the cash price of the service contracts. They will say anything, even contradicting the language of the contract, to get it signed. They will do everything to prevent or stall cancellation. After discovering that the money from one cancellation was not the responsibility of the contractor but of the dealership, and that it had been bottlenecked since 3/29, it took a threat to go to court on 5/6 to get a check cut and sent to my lender (hope it gets there). I had initiated that cancellation directly with the company. The vehicle service contract doesn't even come for a while after purchase. It was like pulling teeth to get the finance guy to fill in the blanks before I signed it. Not only that, but he refused to do the cancellation form for the credit disability on a Saturday. I can only hope the insurance company is more sympathetic after seeing my attempt to send it back to the creditor (who told me to go to the dealer) during the 15-day right to cancel, and after being notified of the relevant parts of my medical history. read more

After a less than rewarding experience with my local Springfield, Mo Toyota dealership, I contacted Crown about buying a new 4Runner. Ted Ross was amazing, taking my old 4Runner in on trade and finding me the exact Limited model I was looking for. All over the phone. Bonus, he brought my new car to me, 4 hours away, and drove away in my old car. The finance guys got me a better rate than I was willing to pay and did it all over the phone with minimal effort on my part. Plus, Ted is a cutie!!! I could not be happier! I love my new 4Runner. Their repair department is horrible. They've left parts to fall off of my Tundra. Lied about checks on my Scion leaving fluids and tire pressure low. And now my Prius is stuck in my drive way on tires that should have been changed during one of the last two times they serviced it, when I explicitly asked them to change my tires if they needed them. I certainly didn't think I needed to tell them not to rotate two practically bald tires to the front axle of a front-wheel-drive vehicle right before snow season. I commute on the interstate and as far as I'm concerned these assholes have endangered my life. They don't even deserve the one star..so... read more
