If you want red sauce this is not the place. The food is delicious, but more about fish and cream sauces not marinara.

The service and atmosphere were awesome! The food however needed help. My friend had the spaghetti and meatballs. I'm no professional chef but I do know how to make a very good Italian sauce. Needless to say this sauce was sub par. I do have to give props to the meatballs and crabcakes as they were yummy. I had the special chicken Marsala that was not good at all. The chicken breast wasn't pounded and that led to very dry chicken. I hate to keep going but the Marsala sauce was uneventful. If this restaurant had a decent chef this place would be exceptional. Sorry for the poor review but I spent some good money there and I was hoping for great food. read more

Old bread that is one day short of a crouton on a salad should have told us to run away but we ignored all the signs. Service was acceptable but the food was BAD. My wife had the New York with shrimp. She ordered it medium but it was bloody rare. Shrimp was over cooked the broccolini was nearly raw. My tortellini was tri colored out of a box with dry tough chicken. We had high hopes of good food but between the filthy carpet and horrible food we will not be back. Update We did show the waitress the dry bread and bloody steak. No offer was made to correct. We also never send food back due to fear of retaliation by kitchen. Before starting this review, I highly recommend reserving in advance, as captivity is relatively small. We were a walk-in group, and all the tables around us were reserved. When I first entered the restaurant, I loved the ambiance. To the seating and lighting, it truest gets like a restaurant ready to serve some delicious Italian foods. The service was super excellent. The waitresses were friendly and always filled our cups back up and made small talk to lighten the hospitality. The food came relatively fast, 15-20 minutes. Serve some bread with a tray of balsamic vinegar and olive oil. (Kept us occupied plentiful). For my meal, I had ordered the spaghetti and meatballs. The presentation for all the meals was impressive and pretty. I like how they utilized the parts of the meal to make it like a price of art. There was enough spaghetti and meatballs to fill me up. I especially liked the texture of the meatballs. They are soft like bread yet not gummy like a steak (in between the two). So, cutting into it was oddly satisfying and had a yummy flavor. For an Italian restaurant, I had to order the tiramisu, and it's one of the better tiramisus I've eaten at any restaurant. It's moist enough with a soft, spongy cake batter. Other tiramisu were dry and crumbly. This hit the spot for the last course. I agree with others that the pricing is in the higher range. But for an occasional visit to Angels Camp, it's worth it for the experience in the Old Town part of town. read more

What an amazing find - thank you, Yelp! I was working in Angels Camp over the weekend and wanted something on the lighter side before heading back to my hotel. The menu had just what I needed. A seared ahi salad. Sounds like a normal thing - but it was perhaps the best salad I've ever had in my 64 years on the planet. Huge piece of ahi. The greens were just right and the homemade dressing was so good. Two hollowed out halves of a hard boiled egg served as little ramekins for sauces. One was spicy hot, the other creamy and savory. A nice glass of Toad Hollow Pinot Noir to accompany. Service was professional and friendly. Beautiful decor - there's even an enormous Roman frieze hanging on one wall. The price was right, too. Stone walls (from the historic building) pictures of Italy, grape vines, wine, etc. The service is prompt and friendly. The food is served fresh. We went for lunch and had: Chicken piccata with linguini and fresh broccolini. (Special of the day) Cesar Salad with Shrimp. Home made tiramisu for desert. Portions were generous but not oversized. My wife & I stumbled upon this place looking for a great breakfast spot before we headed back to Sacramento area. Crusco's is a surprisingly upscale Italian restaurant right in the heart of old town Angel's Camp. It's a few doors down from the movie theater right on Main Street. We were blown away at how awesome everything tasted & how fantastic & genuinely nice the staff were. I had a scrumptious Ham Steak with eggs over easy & country potatoes. I also had a couple of healthy mimosas. My wife (who is gluten sensitive) had a Denver omelette with country potatoes & some yummy GLUTEN FREE BREAD. Turns out that the cook is a master at making gluten free gravies, breads, & other items. Check Crusco's out. You won't be disappointed. read more

Came to Murphy's for the Irish Parade. Way too crowded... no parking... unbelievable wait for shuttle from Iron Gate. So decided to head over to Angels Camp and found this little gem. I had the lunch special, lemon chicken piccata, hubby had Cusco's spicy penne, sausage and marinara sauce. Absolutely Scrumptious! Great service. Four stars because we came at 8:20 and they close at 9PM. They hosted all five of us with such kindness, except for one that assisted our waiter. But he couldn't ruin the experience, even if he wasn't in the mood to serve before closing. Anyhow, friends and I came last minute and it was such a pleasure to meet the lady owner. Good to know she was born in Oakland, and that her family has been around for 40 yrs and 20 at this location. She greeted us with such great smile, even though other customers that were there dining before us, were looking at us like we were out of place. They probably can tell we were not from there. The ambiance of this place is nice. Nice family photos, rustic, and original walls from mining town adds character. The place is clean. Friends ordered pastas, lasagna, and linguini. They all said it was good and it was good portions. We all shared appetizers. Burrata which was very good along with their pesto. Calamari, was okay, very small pieces and too much batter, but flavor was there. Caesar salad, can't go wrong. Also ordered a bottle of local red and white wine. I had the salmon over dirty rice. I wasn't too fond of the rice. Salmon was cooked to perfection. Been eating too much pasta in the past week and couldn't do it. Plus we've been drinking wine at friends ranch. It was my bday this past weekend and we were staying in Angels Camp. After a full day of zip lining, rappelling, exploring Columbus, and hiking Natural Bridges, it was time to shower up and go to dinner. We found this place on yelp and what a lovely place this turned out to be. The service was excellent, the decor was classy and the food, oh the food. They started off with some bread and olive oil mixed with balsamic. Next up came the Spinach salad and calamari for our appetizers. We shared one plate of salad, and the one plate of the calamari. The salad was fresh, and the dressing was not overly done. The calamari was great as well. The star of the night was my entree of Antonella. It was soft polenta topped with a creamy chicken & mushroom sauce. Every bite of this was so good that I didn't want to finish my plate. The polenta was perfect-- not mushy, but creamy with whispers of garlic. The chicken and mushroom were both tasty and I savored every bite. Ok sister and I went into this place for dinner the had the porterhouse with veggie and mash potatoes, ambiance seemed nice the waitress was nice so we decided on the porterhouse steak dinner, when we received our dish the meat was hard and the fat was tough, we were struggling to cut it so we asked the waitress can we get something else she said ok sure what would you like so we both order the new York , 2 min later a cook came out to our table mad and said ok what wrong I showed him how hard it was and he was in denial and I explain a $52. Dollar steak meal should be like butter when you cut into it . He said was upset making faces said fine and walked away . I didn't appreciate being treated in that manner so we left. Clearly the meat was old for it to be like that and the customer service from the cook and the nasty faces he made were inappropriate he came to make our time unpleasant not to give us quality customer service . I don't know why it was so hard to please a customer paying that much money for old food. I will never go in there and advise anyone else not to. Prices are way too high for the quality of their food . I'm give one star for the waitress ... .............. that is true I hit the bone but I also showed him/ you the meat part and the fat it was hard to cut though, if you continue to deny it that's fine you can but I was going to proceed to waste a whole steak until my sister said why would you buy a dinner for $50 just to eat veggie and mash potatoes. You should have cut into it yourself before getting mad . Really good pasta. We got the penne and fettuccine with white creamy sauce. The atmosphere is nice, we made a reservation for 5 pm on a Sunday during Labor Day weekend. It was full by 6 pm. All the pasta is around $20. It feels like family owned and the service is really personal. The town was super sleepy at that hour and we walked through and checked out one of the antiques. If you don't want to eat in Murphy, which seems a bit overpriced, it's very close by and worth checking out. read more

We have missed Crusco's when everything closed in 2020, and we are so glad this beautiful place is back, under new ownership (love the previous owners, too!). The food is absolutely delicious, and the service we experienced was warm and friendly! There were two of us with no reservation, yet they managed to squeeze us in even though they were very busy. I ordered the mushroom polenta, and when it arrived it was served with potatoes rather than the polenta. I informed our server who took care of it right away, the kitchen got a new dish to me within five minutes, and it was OUTSTANDING! My husband had a steak cooked to a perfect medium rare, and we just love it here. We are thankful to have this great place right here in our little town. read more
