Two different brunches over a couple weeks and both times really good. The hurache with barbocoa was sooo good. I ate every bite. It was light but filling at the same time. Ok the stuffed poblano, I really enjoyed the eggs and gravy. Think the actual poblano could have been cooked slightly more though.

I went to Cuates Kitchen for brunch, and overall it was a great experience! The space itself is super cute! I really liked the color scheme and decor. It manages to feel both chic and homey at the same time, which makes it a nice spot for a casual brunch or a little weekend catch-up with friends. The drinks were a highlight. The spiked horchata and espresso martinis were both really good (honestly, better than I expected for a brunch cocktail lineup). For food, I tried a few things: Corn pancakes -- really interesting and different in a good way. Slightly sweet, a little savory, and full of flavor. Brisket hash -- delicious, though the description on the menu was a bit confusing. It said "hashbrown patty," but what I got was diced potatoes topped with a brisket patty. Not a dealbreaker, but the wording could definitely be clearer. Steak and eggs -- perfectly cooked and seasoned; definitely recommend. The service was solid, friendly, attentive without hovering, and the food came out at a good pace. I'll definitely be back to try their dinner menu, because the brunch alone left a good impression. Bottom line: great food, great vibe, solid cocktails. Just a small tweak needed on menu descriptions, but otherwise, Cuates Kitchen is worth the visit.

Cuates Kitchen absolutely delivered! The chips and queso were some of the best I have ever had and that says a lot because I have tried many around Dallas. For my entrée I had the barbacoa costra tacos with beans and rice. Everything was a 10 out of 10, packed with flavor and cooked perfectly. I also tried their blood orange margarita which was refreshing and well balanced, not overly sweet, just right. My buddy ordered the migas breakfast tacos and he was raving about them as well. Prices are a little on the higher side but honestly that is expected for this area and the quality makes it worth it. Service was great, the vibe was inviting and I would certainly come back again. Highly recommend if you are looking for top notch Tex Mex in Dallas.

Hi Everyone! Today's review is for Cuates Kitchen. I will say straight up that I do not know the area and came here only because of the excellent reviews.... Walking in, it was crowded, especially for midafternoon on a Saturday. Definitely a good sign. The tables were a little too close together for my taste. Fortunately we only had people next to us on one side, so we did not feel too squeezed in. We ordered a margarita and a Lone Star beer to start. Expecting chips and salsa. The waitress came back to tell me they were out of Lone Stars. So I took a Corona instead. The Margarita was VERY tiny! If you took out the ice, I bet it wasn't two or three ounces. Kind of sad really! The corona could have been colder as well. It turns out you have to pay for chips and salsa here....?! We ordered them anyhow. When they came it was a small amount of chips and hot salsa. I won't lie, the hot salsa was a bit off putting. I wish they had a cold option as the salsa had nice flavor. If you have gotten this far, you are probably thinking, this is going to be a one or two star review. Well, at this stage, I thought so too! Then our entrees came. Gerri ordered a Carnitas bowl. I ordered the Brisket tacos. The carnitas bowl was very very good and quite nicely presented. But, the star of the meal was my Brisket tacos. They were spectacular!!! Truly the best I have ever had. They came three to a place. Beautifully presented and ever so tasty! It shocks me to say a main entree can take a one or two star review and take it all the way to a solid four! Cuates.... Skip the alcohol, chips and salsa and order the Brisket tacos! You will love it!! Jim

This is one of my favorite places in Dallas. The ambiance and service can't be beat! I really enjoy just hanging here, it feels like home and it's nestled right in the neighborhood. I've had a few different dishes here but the last one I had were the tostadas and they were so good! I highly recommend them, especially when you add their salsa on top. So good!

Can't believe it's taken us so long to try this place. My boyfriend and I had to get his car windows tinted in the area, and since it was lunch time we looked up places to eat nearby. The name Cuates stood out to us, plus the food pictures looked appetizing, so we decided to check it out. The restaurant is built inside a house with outdoor seating at the front porch and indoor sitting plus a bar top. The decor was cozy and we chose to sit outside under one of the many trees. My bench seat happened to be much higher than the chair he sat on so I did tower over him a little, but we quickly forgot about that. They play Latin music at a nice low volume so it's easy to still chat with those around you without needing to yell. Very nice setup. We started with chips and guac and I ordered a dirty horchata. The guac was delicious and fresh, and tasted even better with their in-house made salsa. My drink was also very good. We then ordered flautas as an appetizer, which my boyfriend loved. They were perfectly crunchy, the chicken was moist, and the cream drizzled on top with queso fresco just added to the goodness of it all. For main dishes my boyfriend got 3 tacos and I got the enchiladas de mole. We were both engrossed in our meals because of how good they were. The mole wasn't too overpowering, and the chicken was still tender enough to cut through with mostly just my fork. I forgot to eat the rice if I'm honest. My boyfriend inhaled his tacos before I could even register what they each were lol Even though we were full I saw the plantains listed under desserts and just knew we had to get them. I hadn't had sweet plantains for dessert in years, and this dish reminded me why I liked it so much. Also it wasn't overly sweet. All in all we will be coming back. STAT

This place is an adorable little gem for tacos and Mexican cocktails. We swung by for a late weekday lunch and, surprise surprise, we had the whole place to ourselves (empty, but no complaints - more tacos for us!). There were a couple of fun and friendly local workers getting their cocktail on at the bar (no judgment here, it's 5 o'clock somewhere). We kicked things off with the empanadas, a 2-taco plate, and the elote. The elote came out first - big portion, very tasty - though it could've been a little hotter (room temperature corn isn't quite the vibe). Hubby had the empanadas, and I went for the 2-taco plate (with double beans, no rice - that's the pro move!). There was plenty of food, though Hubby somehow managed to finish it all after I threw in the towel. Seriously, I'm pretty sure his stomach has its own zip code. All in all, great vibes, great food, and even better cocktails. I would love to check out the brunch sometime.

Their salsa verde pollo pozole is the bomb! I got it to go and it came with tortilla chips, shredded cabbage, radish, and oregano seasoning with onions. It was still hot enough when we got home and i enjoyed it. It was flavorful, spicy but not that spicy, the place is kind of hard to find but its in a hidden street behind gas station

Perfext stop for Mexican food prior to going to the AA center. It was such an amazingly authentic Mexican restaurant. We tried the barbaccoa tacos and flautas and loved it. For appetizers, we got the queso and chips- it was cheesey and tasty with a kick. Our table got picaditas and it was also fresh. We also got the house margarita and the prickly pear margarita. They were all delicious. You can definitely get a little buzz from one margarita, if you're not a heavyweight drinker. Dang these tacos are really good. They had homemade corn tortillas. I got the Barbacoa taco, cochinita pibil (pork) taco, and the Tinga tacos. They were all amazing but the barbacoa definitely takes the cake. They were all moist and full of flavor. The hot sauces also tasted homemade and the spicy one was actually spicy spicy. Finally, we got the flan for dessert. The flavor was spot on but texture was a little thicc (which two C's). The vibes and atmosphere is cute and nice enough for a cute little date. The staff was kind and attentive. They also have real plants. I dig it and will be back. read more

I was going to take a to go order, but the moment I walked in, I loved the design and vibe of the little restaurant, the selection of music and how I was greeted when walking in made me decided to dine in. The fish taco is so good! The filet has a crunch on the outside, but is nice and thick and juicy on the inside, loaded with flavor. The other two I tried were the shrimp and barbacola which were "eh" but not bad - just didn't make the same impact. We did order the queso, and it was so good we ordered a second, so make of that what you will. read more

We keep coming back! This place is so delicious and fresh! We have been for happy hour, lunch to go, brunch and dinner. The waiters are friendly and helpful with the menu. We loved sitting outside but inside is also so cozy! You cannot leave without meeting Carlos, one of the owners. He is friendly and always remembers us when we return. The atmosphere and food was amazing! The staff was quick and friendly. The entire place was packed the entire time as well. Only issue is the "specials" board says half off wine but does not specify it is the bottle and not just by the glass. Not the end of the world and the staff apologized, but clarity in the advertisement is necessary. We will still definitely be back! I recommend the Guac, Enchiladas Verdes, and Guiso! read more

My partner and I live walking distance to this restaurant, and after passing by several times, we decided to give it a try. I'm so happy we did, because this is by far my new favorite place to get tacos. The restaurant itself is small/quaint, with attentive waitstaff. More importantly, the food is consistent and delicious. We have tried several tacos thus far, including the fish,shrimp, and cochinita pibil. All fantastic. Most recently, I had the tinga (super flavorful and bright), the carne asada tacos (which were a special,) and the chicken mole tacos (my personal fav). The guacamole is fresh, queso is rich and creamy. We also tried to churros which were crispy on the outside, hot and fluffy on the inside. Yum :) Overall, I love this place, definitely recommend giving it a try if you're in the oak lawn area. read more

This is a GEM of a restuarant. Several things make it that way. The food is sublime and the flavors rich and complex....I am sure the tacos are good but honestly get one of these specials - I got Guiso a La Veracruz Guajillo Stew - very good and verde enchiladas . even the Guacamole was excellent. I would have like to have fresh tortillas but you know that is another thing. the service and the family that runs the place are super nice and friendly. Our server Antono was great and dished out recommendations that were 100% accurate. one other thing makes it very nice is the free secured parking in a very busy neighborhood read more

I went to Cuates for lunch today, and I just have to say, I do not understand how this place has an almost five star rating. I think it is solidly three point five to four stars and no more. I ordered the fish taco, chicken taco, and rice and beans on the side. The chicken was flavorful and very juicy but besides that, no really unique flavor or toppings that stood out. The fish taco was also super boring and just a fried fillet with no seasoning and also you have to pay extra for the slaw. The rice was bland and the beans were standard black beans. The ambiance and service were both standard but nothing crazy. Perhaps my standards are too high as someone who lives in El Paso on the border. Over there the tortillas melt into your mouth and not because of fat but because they are just that fresh. I would come back if someone wanted to go, but otherwise pass. read more

Cuates stands head and shoulders and even shampoo and conditioner above the competition. There are a lot of great Mexican restaurants in both the area and the city at large-- each with a unique touch...but Cuates is pretty much undefeatable. The freshness of the food, the promptness of the service, and peacefulness of the vibe-- it all just kicks. Excellent mole, ceviche, elote, queso, cochinita pibil, y tacos son todo que Tejanos y Mexicanos alike quieren. Noticed this place a month ago and finally got around to checking it out and am so glad I did! Came in Saturday night and it was super quiet! We were seated immediately and our server was great! He began by giving some recommendations and gave us a minute to think. We ended up going with the ceviche to start which was fantastic! Super flavorful and fresh tasting. For my entree I got tacos: tinga, shrimp and pibill. They were all tasty but the Cochinita pibill one was WONDERFUL next time I would order three of that! My boyfriend got the GUISO A LA VERACRUZ GUAJILLO STEW which was very good! A bit too greasy for my taste but my bf enjoyed it. Overall this place is a little on the pricier side for Mexican but I don't mind for the fresh flavors and to support a small business. I def want to come back again for a few margs too as they looked great! There's street parking that seems pretty open so this was not a challenge read more

We had been hoping for a place like this! Food is amazing, very authentic Mexican dishes. The people are very warm and welcoming, and the ambience is perfect. Patio for the summer hotter days is perfect for some tacos and for now, BYOB, but they also have topo chico which is cherry on top. The inside area is super cute and cozy! I can say they been open for about 2 months or so, and I've been here about 10 times. Love to see small businesses thrive, bring everyone and try it out! read more

Tried Cuates at Truck Yard in The Colony recently and enjoyed it! The nachos and tinga tacos (chicken) were great. I tried the barbacoa tacos as well but wasn't as impressed, the meat was wrapped in cheese that seemed over cooked. I would prefer the cheese just placed on top of the meat and allow it to melt on its own with the heat. They were out of empanadas which was a bummer. Looking forward to trying them again! read more
