The starters: Chicken Wings and Pan Con Tomate The wings were breaded, and were bland...for those of you who remember, it was a Shake and Bake type of coating...was not impressed The Pan Con Tomate, basically toasted bread with cheese, olive oil and avocado...it was really good. Dinner We had the Cuban Churrasco, Carne Con Papa, and the Cuban Pork Tenderloin. The Churrasco was meh, the over powering char taste, and then bland afterwards. Such a great find! My boyfriend and I came on a Saturday evening. This restaurant is located in a strip mall and has plenty of parking out front. Our server was great, friendly, and super quick with extra requests. They have a wide cocktail selection as well as imported Cuban sodas. If you haven't tried Iron Beer yet, this is your chance! I got the Cuban sandwich with a side of tostones and my boyfriend got the Ropa Vieja. The food came out really fast and was so good! I got a side of the aioli to dip my tostones and sandwich into and it was a game changer. I've never had a Cuban sandwich that was so juicy, but the bread was still crispy! I found the portions to be big so I took home a whole half of my plate and my boyfriend did too. The Ropa Vieja was really good as well and came with rice, beans, and tostones. Overall I had a great experience and would give 4.5 stars if I could. While we were eating there a lot of people were picking up to go orders which is nice to know that's an option as well! I'd save my money and go downtown for 20 bucks a person (1 entre and a Coke) If the prices do go down (about 12 bucks a plate on average would make it worth it) - it would match the ambiance and I'd take (or order for) my family more. My husband was having a craving for Cuban food, and we decided to grab takeout from here. The Cuban loaded fries were good but the portion size was pretty small for the price. My husband opted for the Mariscad a cubana for his entree, and while it was good it could have had more seafood for the price. I chose the Arroz con pollo and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The chicken was packed full of favor and perfectly moist (it's always a worry if chicken will be too dry!). The rice for both entrees was incredibly delicious and flavorful- and I'm pretty particular with rice so I was pretty impressed. They opened March 3rd and I went on March 26 and 27. That in mind, here was my experience. I ordered takeout the first time and had apps and mojitos the second time. Interior: The bar has these very tall chairs, fit for a giant, but then the architect made the bar itself too tall. Same for the booths. The booth is shorter than the table, by about a foot. The interior involved lots of Cuban murals, and very slow moving ceiling fans that look as if they are being fanned by the ocean air. I really liked the ambience, once I was inside, and not staring at the Dollar Store next door. Drinks: The drinks are great, and $4 during happy hour for a pint-glass of mojitos that are hand made at the bar. Food: Tried the ropa vieja (beef) and the lechon asada (pork) as well as an empanada filled with eggplant. First of all, the eggplant empanada was huge! It was the size of three McDonalds apple fritters squashed together and had the same consistency. And it was $2. I picture the more typical empanadas, that are drier and tiny and filled with meat and raisins and whatnot. The lechon asada, that comes with rice and beans, was a bit on the greasy side. And the ropa vieja was not super memorable. The plantains were really yummy. And the maduros (fried plantains) were like little plantain potato chips. The apps were the guacamole with fried plantain chips and that was pretty tasty; the yucca con mojo is an enormous mountain of food drizzled with mojo (oil, lime juice, garlic, and cumin); the croquettas (one with fish and one with pork but the waiter was unable to tell us which was which). I don't know Cuban food that well so I'll just say I'll be trying the all-day sandwiches next. Service: No water ever arrived. And no waiter knew which table should have which dish? Yours? Yours? Yours? Ours! And then it was 20 minutes to get the bill. But the bill was twice what it should have been because it had yours, mine, and ours listed on it. 20 minutes later we get the revised bill (the computer's fault is what we were told), and then it was 20 more minutes before the payment was taken. The Cuban motto might encourage kindness above all else but after a twenty minute wait in the parking lot on the front end, it sort of adds up. Yes, we were hostages on a Friday night, but we made it out. And, yes, we will be back. read more

Take it from a guy who's gone to hundreds of Cuban restaurants across the country and grew up in Miami eating the most authentic Cuban food you can find. This place is overpriced (19 bucks for a small portion of rice and protein with a side) the food is as far from authentic taste as you can get and if you don't mind having to down 4 waters because the Ropa Viaja went through a salt bath.
