Mmmm Cuban Kitchen. I've been doing business with this restaurant for a long time - since I was at CSM getting huge catering orders for student events! Now I enjoy the food with my family, and it's just as delicious. We ordered the meal for a family of four which was an incredible deal. I ordered ahead and got the mojito chicken, veggies with sofrito, and a mixed plate of fried plantains. We also had the homemade chips which are OFF THE CHARTS along with rice, beans and a couple sauces. Everything was hot and fresh and ready to go right at pickup time. Yes yes yes!!! I remember why I miss cali. The multiple selections of food. And this being one of the greats. Once in your life when you eat and try something new. Hey just be aware you might get hooked. I love me some Cuban food. And Cubanos need be absolutely right or its just a disgrace. But this on hand was wow. I order 2 to go and was not disappointed. This looks like a relative new place; the menu is simply large printed posters hanging from the walls. It's simply decorated with small paintings from a local artist. They, by the way, are fun to look at. The team there is enthusiastic, friendly, and very attentive. If only the food was on par. While the prices are in line for the portion size, there just isn't any real flavor that jumps out and grabs you. The maduro appetizer is good so that is something you definitely need to get. I would stay away from the Bistec as the meat was a bit on the tough side. Perhaps it was cooked too long or was not a great cut. I'm not sure. The rice and beans were okay. The wifey had the Cubano sandwich and she said it was okay. The descriptions of the marinades used for each meat sounded appetizing but they just did not come through. I asked for the Jalapeno-Cilantro Aji to try to wake up my dish but sadly, it did not help that much. read more

I love having this place in my neighborhood! This place has met my meal needs on so many occasions... camping trips, potlucks, and a quick Sunday afternoon meal after church! My favorite sandwich is the Best Cubano sandwich which includes honey ham, pulled pork, cheese, and pickles.. pressed Panini style. Amazing. Their Pollito Mojito is tasty, but it's much better as a plate - don't get it as a sandwich or salad. Their black beans and rice are flavored to perfection, the tostones (savory fried plantains) are a must-have, and their sauces are so fun to try. I still don't know what the right sauce pairings are, but I like dipping my sandwich in all of them! One side note is that I've ordered large orders from this place a couple of times now, and unfortunately, they've gotten my order wrong twice. The first time, they forgot one of the entrees, but the owner was so sweet and called me to apologize and offered to comp a meal in the future. The second time, my husband caught that two sandwiches were left out, but they immediately corrected it. I think the place can get overwhelmed during their peak hours, so just double-check your takeout bag. :) Highly recommend their food! read more

Came here the other night to outdoor dine. I ordered the Classic with Bistec and a side of Spicy Shrimp. The beans that came with it were also delicious. We were given about 5-7 sauces on the side that were also delicious and complimented the food very well. It was my first Cuban food experience and Cuban Kitchen did not disappoint. read more

Updating this review because I absolutely have to because I am just so impressed! We live up the street from Cuban Kitchen and stop there probably once every other week for dinner and always see their huge catering sign. I told my work about Cuban Kitchen and we catered an order for 70 hungry teachers for our "Faculty Fun Friday", today. I had at least several dozen people come up to me telling me how fantastic the food was! Honestly, every single dish was FANTASTIC and filled with delicious flavor! As we pulled up to the restaurant, I started having second thoughts. From the outside, the restaurant didn't look like much. It reminded me of a take out spot from the eighties, but I figured that the menu would at least be worth a look. Let me tell you, I am so glad I gave it a chance! Literally everything on the menu sounded delicious, so we had a hard time deciding, but we ended up getting the Lechon Plate, Chicken Milanese, an order of sweet plantains, yucca fries, and the flan. (Side note, the Chicken Mojito and Chicken Milanese labels were accidentally switched so I ordered the Chicken Milanese, expecting a grilled entree instead of a fried one. However, no regrets. I LOVED the dish and would order it again). The yucca fries came out first and they were the bomb diggity-est: crispy on the outside, fluffy and hot on the inside. The Lechon was good too -- not exactly what I was expecting since I am used to the Filipino fried Lechon. This one was more of a stewed pork shoulder, which was still quite flavorful if ever so slightly dry. The Chicken Milanese was perfection. Seasoned very well, crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The entrees came with a side of rice and beans and a couple sweet plantains. Don't even get me started on the flan. This should be the textbook example of flan done right. Dense and creamy, the flan was the perfect sweet end to our meal. The staff was super helpful and friendly and kept the tables cleared. Maybe I'll drop by again soon to get the Mojito Chicken I meant to order the first time around. read more

We love Cuban Kitchen! They've been our go-to dinner place since we've been sheltering at home. Their food and their customer service is wonderful, and delivery is always faster than we expect. Our 3-year-old also loves their food, and they package everything so perfectly that is usually saves us a night of doing dishes, which is also a huge relief for us. Delicious Cuban food. The chicken plate is tasty, with a nice flavor and tenderness to the meat. Dishes come with a side to black beans and rice. The spicy chorizo sliders were delicious and not too spicy. There is a selection of sandwiches and plates and variety of sides. We had the Yucan fries which was delicious, especially with the limonette sauce it came with. We got to sample the fried plaintain as there was a slice on the chicken plate. It was delicious and sweet. I would order a side of that in the future. I don't know if the menu is the same for lunch and dinner. If so, that would mean great prices for dinner. I took my mom hoping we could get some good authentic food, we are BOTH from Cuba, my Cuban sandwich tasted like a ham sandwich, which I can get anywhere. The FLAN? I've driven pass this restaurant many times and had never tried it. I'm glad I finally did. The Cuban Kitchen is off the El Camino Real and there is a small parking lot. The meals are inexpensive and the food is absolutely amazing. The ingredients themselves are extremely simple (rice, beans, plantains etc.) but go together exceptionally well. I tried the polls a la milanesa, bistec plate, and cubano sandwich. Both we're wonderful and full of flavor. If you're looking for inexpensive, hearty food - look no further. read more

The Ropa Vieja is deelicious! The tostones, the maduros, the maltas, the pulled pork sandwiches....oh my, just go! It was all so, so good. Everything was on point and so savory. And every order comes with a side of arroz y habichuelas (rice and beans) that are made to perfection. I really liked the garlic sauce for the tostones too. And they had three different sauces available by the tables for you to choose. The service was wonderful and quite friendly. When people asked what was this or that, they were made to feel welcome and everything was explained with a genuine smile. Loved that. The location is so convenient on El Camino Real in San Mateo (right next to Jack's Prime). Did I mention the music? If you are a classic salsa lover...you will be happy as you chomp on your tostones. I was born in Cuba. I grew up in Miami where great Cuban food can be found at every corner. I've lived on the west coast for three years and this is the first place I find that has great, and authentic Cuban food. The beans are how you know if a Cuban spot is legit. Most places sell you canned Goya beans. Not here. The beans were perfect, not too hard (undercooked) or too soft (overcooked). The plantains were also great. That's hard to do. The plantains need to be at the right level of ripeness and it is very easy to burn them because of how much sugar they have. The tostones were also great, even after a 40 minute DoorDash drive expedition. Some customers complaint that some of the food is not authentic. I don't think those reviews are accurate. The plates I had were the most authentic I've had on the west coast by far! I can't wait for how much better it will be to eat at Cuban Kitchen in person instead of waiting 40 minutes for my order to arrive from DoorDash. read more
