I came here with a group to get dinner on a weekend night and really loved the ambiance of this place! It's got a more casual atmosphere with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Parking wasn't too hard to find since there was a lot behind and a deck nearby. After debating what to get, I decided to try the spicy rigatoni with grilled chicken. It also came with mushrooms and spinach in a light sauce. I do wish the sauce was spicier but overall felt pretty full at the end of it. The sauce was creamy and tangy and was light which I appreciated and came with plenty of chicken. My friends also really liked their dishes and raved about the salmon which I'd love to try next time! Our server was super sweet, and it did take some time to get our food which was expected since there was a good amount of people at the place. Morgan's service was great! She was really attentive and gave us great suggestions when our party was being indecisive. This was my first time at Culinary Dropout. It was a midweek night and not very busy - not sure which nights during the week are their busiest. There are lots of different seating options and the ambiance is chill. I imagine it is much louder and hectic on a weekend night. The Spicy Shrimp Crispy Rice appetizer was pretty good. Being in Atlanta, there's usually some type of fried chicken on most "New American" restaurant menu's, so I try not to order it out too often. I'm glad I did this time - the chicken was very good. The biscuit that it comes with was so dense - it'd probably be perfect for a biscuit sandwich. I couldn't finish it all, but I took home the leftovers and it was still very good later. The place has a really nice layout. Perfect for a date, lunch meeting, or casual dining with friends. Our server, Nishaan Mangera, was excellent. She was very attentive, gave recommendation, knew the menu and made sure everyone was satisfied. The good is really good. The pizza was very seasoned and I enjoyed the unique taste of herbs. Service, 10 stars! The young ladies working in there are super nice and helpful. I called before they opened to inquire about something not on the menu and she was very nice and helpful. So was the server for the table. The food, left much to be desired. Portions are small. The only thing full size is the fish and chips. Everything else, not full size entrees. I had to makeshift my sandwich to be full. The ceasar salad side I had was stale. If I was paying, I would have sent it back. Stale croutons, and old lettuce. Not good at all. I added shrimp. They didn't even put it together. They put it on the side and it wasn't good very bland. No taste at all. The turkey pastrami itself was ok, but again, I was expecting the pretzel bun to be soft. It was not. It was hard and also tasted kind of stale. I buy pretzel buns often and they're usually firm, but still soft if fresh. That took away from the fact the sandwich itself was good. The lemonade, housemaid, tasted like water. It might as well had been water. The monkey bread was the only thing I enjoyed. I like the aesthetic of the restaurant and I love the employees and the customer service but that's about it. As hungry as I was, I was hoping to enjoy my meal, and I did not. Went on a date... first timer. Our waiter Jonathan was amazing. Restaurant was kind of dim but was able to adjust. Not a noisy environment. The game was playing over the bar so that was a plus for me! The drinks were good and the food was great too. I had an old fashioned with the steak frites and my date had the pub burger with a Long Island. I have been to the Culinary Drop out in the downtown location, as well as the location in Charlotte, NC. After doing a little shopping at perimeter mall I was in need of a bite to eat and figured I would check out this location. Upon my arrival a staff greeted me and mentioned that someone would be with me shortly. After waiting for about 5 minutes another staff approached and apologized for the wait and did seat me. This was interesting because there were very few patrons in the restaurant, but a ton of staff on duty. Once I was seated my wait staff did come over quickly to greet me as well as take my drink order. I ended up having just a cup of water, the black truffle mushroom pizza, and the Brussel sprouts. The food came out in decent time. Admittedly I have had the pizza at the Charlotte location and must admit it was better there. The Brussels were ok, but I would not have to have them again. While the service started off rough, it did improve during my dinning experience. However, I don't feel like the food is consistent across locations. I came here for Sunday brunch to celebrate a friend's birthday! We had a reservation but were able to walk right in and be seated immediately. There's plenty of parking out front in the lot as well. Inside, there's plenty of seating and I liked the decor and vibes, very clean and chic. I got an Aperol Spritz to start which was refreshing. For my entree, I had the Southwest Breakfast bowl. The steak and frites were absolutely delicious--tender, perfectly cooked, and packed with flavor. The roasted salmon was just as impressive--flaky, well-seasoned, and beautifully plated. We started with the "Slice" charcuterie board--while it had a nice selection overall, the unpitted olives were a bit of a surprise. A heads-up on that would've gone a long way, but it certainly didn't ruin the experience. The real standout (aside from the food) was the atmosphere--laid-back, fun, and full of great energy. I have been to the Culinary Dropout (Ashford-Dunwoody location) several times. Unfortunately, each visit has been disappointing, with this last visit being the worst. My whole family went after my son's college graduation. Our reservation was for 8, but we arrived around 7:45PM. No issues with being seated and the server arrived shortly after for drink orders and appetizers. The water arrived soon after, but the drinks took approximately 20 minutes to arrive to the table. No appetizers ever arrived. I should note that the restaurant was not busy. The server then came back (another 20 minutes later) and took our food order. The food took about 45 minutes to arrive, and it came piece by piece (2 orders came, then 2 more, and so forth). Random people bringing the orders, not our server. I did see her be bopping throughout the restaurant and mostly hanging out in the kitchen area. When she did come over, we inquired about our appetizers. She then made up a terrible excuse as to how there was a mix up with the tickets. She asked if we still wanted them and said it would be 5 minutes. We obliged and received only 1 order (we ordered 3 appetizer dishes). Please note that the appetizer came while we were eating our actual meals. We canceled the remaining two. We had to track her down for water refills. At the end of the meal, again I had to get up and track her down for the bill. She stated that the manager would "take care" of the appetizer, and the manager would be bringing the bill. Another woman (who never introduced herself) brought the bill and laid it down at the other end of the table and walked off. A couple of things to note for management: We were never rude or disrespectful to any staff in the restaurant. Even all of the issues. However, the attitude of the staff was very unprofessional. At several times, we could see the staff horse playing in the kitchen area. The food quality has also progressively gotten worse. I absolutely won't be returning to this restaurant, and I don't normally leave reviews, but I felt this was warranted. I really hope management takes a look and this location and makes some changes. read more

This was my first time at Culinary Dropout. I had heard about it for quite some time, but was never able to go. I went for a friend's birthday, there were 11 of us. We made a reservation for Saturday afternoon. There were plenty of tables available, but I would still advise making a reservation just to be safe. We started with some drinks. I got a Bloody Mary, which was pretty good. I told our server to make it spicy, and they didn't miss! Other people got some other drinks as well. They have a nice drink list filled with cocktails as well as beers, zero-proof drinks, wines, seltzers, and practically everything else. We all ordered off the brunch menu, which is HUGE. They have so many options, so you are defintiely bound to find something you will like. I got the Fried Chicken and Buttermilk biscuit as my main course, and then me and my wife shared the Brussels Sprouts. Both of the dishes were SO GOOD. The chicken biscuit came with two eggs on it, and they were cooked perfectly. The chicken was crispy, but juicy at the same time. Loved it! The sprouts were crispy and tangy too. It's always so hard to replicate these at home, but this restaurant did it perfectly. My wife got the hot wings as her main course. They were really good too! They were the right amount of spice, that paired perfectly with the ranch. I tried some of the other dishes that some of our friends got too. I tried the feta and tahini dip and the pretzels with fondue. I personally loved the dip. I'm a huge fan of feta, so this was excellent. The dip was super flavorful!! The pretzels with fondue were good too. The fondue came in this little pot thing, which was pretty aesthetically pleasing. The pretzels were soft and hot, pairing perfectly with warm fondue. All of the food was exceptional!! Culinary Dropout is a super fun place! You can eat and drink here, and then explore the area around too. There are other restaurants, a little courtyard, and some benches where you can wander to after (or before even.) There is plenty of parking, as there is a lot all around. The service is excellent too. Our server was super helpful with helping us make informed choices about both our food and drink, and she did everything with such kindness. This has the potential to be a very cool place. It's certainly pretty inside and it has a really great menu. The pretzel bites are not bites by any means they are more like pretzel Cannon balls. Definitely shareable and delicious but we came here on a Sunday afternoon and the place was not busy but it was so slow and I do mean slow service was very sweet and pleasant but it was slow. Did I mention it was slow? My food came out wrong and it took so long to get it in the First place I just decided to share in the breakfast burrito that we also ordered. Now this is a good spot in a good area. They have a myriad of types of food for you to try. I actually went in because they have Detroit style pizza, even though they were out of it, it was still a really good spot randomly try. They have an outdoor and indoor area so depending on what the weather you can sit outside because there's plenty of patio space. And on the patio it's right facing a central parkish area so you'll see a lot of people out walking and playing and things like that. Now. If you don't want to see all those people, I suggest you don't stay outside LOL. Service was good. I came on a premium night so it was a bit slow though, even to the point to where I had to wait to get water to wash down the food, but I have understanding for the service industry so I'm not going to bash anybody for that because sometimes those type of nights get super crowded. But overall I feel like outside of that it was still really good on the service tip. From the way staff to the hostess table, I have any complaints about that. They have a very large bar and the area and the space that it's in is very big. So even if it is kind of crowded you should still be able to find a seat somewhere. They have some TVs at the bar so you can watch a game. But if you wanted a pure sports bar this would not be the place for you. But don't let that dissuade you. They also have a DJ there. I'm sure it's not every night, but the night that I went they had a DJ playing as well so that was actually pretty cool. It's in a strip mall shopping area. So it's free parking. It's not like you're in the middle of midtown, you're in the Dunwoody area so they don't have to worry about any paying to park so that's always a bonus. Crispy popcorn shrimp - This was pretty good for an appetizer. I probably would not get it again but it was okay. To me. It was decent but I feel like the sodium content was off the charts LOL. It was a little salty for me. Peking duck fried rice - Now I had the fried rice here and this was actually good as well. It kind of had the same issue as the previous appetizer I mentioned, it was a little salty, but it didn't have a balance so that was actually pretty okay. Again. Nice place for a birthday dinner/date night but honestly very mid. Food is alright but pricey, and the kitchen was out of so many items when I went. I got the crispy chicken katsu and it was alright. Decent portion size, great side salad, but it felt like the flavor was only coming from whatever sauce they were using while the actual cutlet was pretty bland. I'll give this place some grace since we had a large table, but the service was incredibly slow from start to finish. It took a long time for the food to come out, and it took equally as long for them to bring the checks even though we signaled for them. Our reservation was at 7:30pm, and we left around 10:15pm as soon as we were done signing the checks. Culinary Dropout is so cute! I'd been wanting to go for a while and my in-laws were staying nearby so we decided to go there for a quick dinner. Obviously parking is not an issue as there is plenty of it. Now onto the experience. Culinary Dropout is so moody. Although it's a very big space, the atmosphere is very intimate with dim lighting, dark and cozy seating and low music. I could actually hear the conversation from the rest of my party, so that's a plus! I ordered the Detroit Style Pepperoni and Italian Sausage Pizza, it took me so long to order because all the options sounded delicious, but that's what I decided on. My husband had the Shaved Prime Rib Dip with fries, my MIL had the Peking duck and shrimp fried rice and my FIL had the Roasted Salmon. The pizza was really good! The dough was soft and pillowy, there weren't too many toppings on the slices, and the sauce, though not much, was delicious. My husband's prime rib dip was so good and the au jus was perfect. It even heated up well the next day. My MIL got the Peking duck on the side of the shrimp fried rice and gave it to my husband, then replaced the shrimp fried rice completely with pizza. I did try it though (upon her request when trying to decide if she wanted to replace it) and it was very good. My FIL enjoyed his salmon very much. The service was great! I did not get our server's name but she was very attentive and made sure our table was good to go and our drinks were never empty. The manager on duty handled the replacement of the shrimp fried rice professionally and was very kind (and might I say, stylish too!) I first fell in love with Culinary Dropout at The Domain when I lived in Austin. I always ordered the Steak Frites and the Evil Jungle Princess cocktail. So when I found out one opened just two minutes from my place here in ATL I had to check them out and been back several times since. Today we stopped in for lunch and our server was super friendly. The Daisy mocktail was so refreshing as it was hot earlier today. We ordered the Fried Chicken with biscuit and stacked potatoes, and the pepperoni & sausage pizza, definitely comfort food at its finest! We also had the fried shrimp, and wings as appetizers. We waited over an hour and a half for our food -- and this is with one of the simplest menus you'll find. The appetizers were just okay, nothing worth the wait. What really stood out (in a bad way) was the lack of management. Not once did a manager come over to acknowledge the delay or apologize. At a certain point, our (very kind) waitress disappeared -- and that's usually a clear sign the kitchen is falling apart and staff are being left to deal with frustrated customers on their own. When we finally did hear from management, it wasn't accountability -- just excuses. No ownership, no real attempt to make things right. For a holiday service, with a limited menu and plenty of staff, there's no excuse for being this unprepared. Better than the sports bar food around this area. Also better than Seasons 52. Large portions. Wagu pigs in a blanket were good-can't really mess that up! But the puff pastry was nice...the honey mustard crème frèche was not. Would have preferred regular honey mustard or mustard. The fries that came with my partner's ribs were cold, limp, and way too salty. The staff was very kind to bring a fresh batch. Second batch-Seriously good fries. Crispy, not greasy, not too salty, pillowy-soft potato-y goodness...great fries. Ribs were fall-off the bone tender, very heavily seasoned...almost too much but not. Salmon cooked correctly, the corn risotto-ish creamy part was rich, very rich. Too much/too heavy after a few bites. Caesar salad was split by the kitchen, standard, good. Overall, good casual food. Got there on a busy night, seemed like a cooperate event was going on. 45 minute wait for a table so we just sat at the bar. Waitstaff was friendly. We got the pretzels with fondue and were really happy with what we got. Parking (following Google maps) dropped us in a lot behind the building that had us a little confused; however, I'm glad we got there and got a parking spot when we did late Saturday afternoon because by the time we were leaving, it was full - so much so that two cars were vulturing around and glaring at our group saying our goodbyes in the parking lot because they wanted us to vacate our spots! The space - awesome! Very trendy/industrial and spacious. The interior was comfortable and the restrooms were clean. All of the hosts and servers were very friendly. The food took ages to arrive and when it did, only 2 of our party of 10 were pleased with the food. The quality and quantity couldn't justify the cost for any of us. The waygu pigs in blankets tasted like something I'd make at home with cocktail weinies and crescent rolls (yummy, but not dinner-out amazing.) The menu also should've added to the Korean ribeye cap description that its little meat slivers were bathed in spice - the couple who ordered it couldn't finish because their tastebuds were scorched. None of the other meals were a stand-out except the Asian crunch salad and the appetizer fondue. We came here as a group of four with a reservation late on a Saturday afternoon. The space is quite large with a hip and eclectic vibe. Loud music was piled in until the weekend entertainment began performing on the small stage. We ordered a few cheese selections (pimento and manchego) as well as some crusty bread to start. The cheese was nice but the amount provided was quite small for the price. I had a Cheap House Salad with buttermilk ranch. It was a nice little salad, perhaps not worth $8.50. I also had the Peking duck and shrimp fried rice. It was very tasty but spicy. It was quite saucy and had the consistency of pad Thai, not fried rice. Uncle Roger (IYKYK) would likely say hiyaaa! Our friend also ordered this and could not eat much due to the spice. My wife had the Spicy Vegan Curry with sweet potato, eggplant, and black rice . The views and the service in here is beautiful. I am from Detroit. I was visiting in Dunwoody when we went here on a Wednesday. I heard it was good before but this time...not so much. We ordered nachos pizza, beer battered fish and chips. & my lil niece had a cheeseburger. Nachos Came out cold. While it had good flavor. They were cold. The Fish and chips were pretty good but look at the portions they gave us. Three baby fish sticks and a few fries. Even when we got the cheeseburger there weren't a lot of fries. Pizza Being from Detroit I have to get it. These guys advertise their pizza as Detroit style. When they should just call it a square pizza. This not a Detroit style pizza. The crust was thin & it was just lacking in almost every department. I personally don't think anyone in this facility had a Detroit Deep dish before. Come to the city & I'll show you what it should be like. The burger looked like the best thing at the table. First time I ever ordered so much and the burger looked the best. Overall this was a bit disappointing especially for the price. However this place is in a phenomenal area. Who ever is doing the staffing here is doing a great job. The waitresses/waiters are great. Drinks are good. The views are great too. Food is just lacking but maybe I went on an off day. Don't look at this review and say eh I don't wanna try this place now. Try it for yourself. I came here for a double date with my sister. I love the location. They have really build up this area. Arrive early if you made reservations. Parking is free but will take a minute to find. There are a lot of businesses nearby. Service was amazing. We never had to ask for anything. The cocktails were delicious. If you want an app, get the pork belly nachos. It's was soo good.
