Another visit and another good meal. My boys and I always get the creamed corn. It's our favorite vegetable but this place has a wide variety of veggies. We loved the barbecue and the chicken and my wife got the tortilla soup special which was very good. No complaints at all. My wife tells me I drive waitresses nuts but our server was friendly and seemed to handle my request without any trouble. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. I read one review that said this place seemed to be going downhill but I think it just keeps getting better and better. Our favorite Resturant in Dillard and Rabun County. I looked at the pictures and one was of The Valley Cafe? It's across the street but this place is my favorite by far. Homemade everything. I do not usually get a dessert. When I do it's usually something with chocolate in it. But I tried the apple pie and it was the best apple pie I have ever eaten. It's big enough to share but you may not want too. read more

We were driving through north Georgia on US highways during breakfast time. No interstate = No Cracker Barrel. So, we used Yelp to find some alternatives. There weren't many, but are we glad we found this one. Excellent food, excellent portions, and excellent service. They even have a country store like Cracker Barrel does. Friendliness of wait staff meeting could not be better. Food came really fast. Sharon had the Thursday Special. Pot toast with too sides besides the green beans, potatoes, and carrots. A ton of each. A meat of great portion by themselves. The pot roast was really delicious. I had spaghetti and meatballs with a trip to the salad bar. Came with garlic toast. Great place for traditional, southern cooking. The staff is always friendly and the gift shop is fun to browse in. The food is tasty and they have a huge menu. Plus, if you need a place to stop for dessert, this is the place to go. The slices of cake are gigantic and beyond delicious. read more

First visit to Raybun County (after moving to N. Georgia 4 years ago) this weekend. Ate dinner Saturday night at Dillard House (cuz everyone said you have to have that experience) and then stayed the night there. Review of all that later. Breakfast this morning at the Cupboard Cafe and we will definitely be here again! Great food and, yes, breakfast is still served all day. The selection is large, meal is plentyful, food was nice and hot and cooked to our requests. I had 2 scrambled eggs w/bacon done crispy, a big biscuit, a side of home fries and coffee. Yummy good and so much I had to leave some. Coffee comes right away and then you are given a carafe of it to enjoy during your meal. The price is way more than reasonable for the amount of tasty food you get. Service was good and our server (forgot her name) scored points with me for having the crust to banter a bit with my husband who loves to be the funny jokester of our group. Nice to see him get it back once in awhile from someone other than myself!! The atmosphere here is a little bit of "country cute", but in a real way and I don't know how to explain that. The floors are lovely old wood, seating is nice wood chairs and tables or benches in booths and is plentyful, and there is an outside porch covered with baskets full of hanging plants and window boxes of flowers on the railings. Can't wait to come back to the area and try maybe lunch or dinner here. I know it will be delish! read more

This place is huge and has a menu to match! Our server was very friendly and attentive! We all had the mountain trout prepared either grilled or pan fried and it was so good! Seasoned and cooked perfectly. We weren't adventurous with our sides and had salad bar (very nice selection) and baked potatoes! The cheese biscuits they give before the meal are great. This is an adorable little cafe, cutely decorated and clean. Our breakfast was delicious. The "famous" biscuits and gravy did not disappoint - it reminded me of what my grandmother used to make. Excellent find in the northeast corner of Georgia. Southern cooking with a flair. Excellent fried chicken, but it better be to stay in business 'round here. What makes this a standout is the strong dark iced tea. And the fried oysters were superb. Most surprisingly, the fried mushrooms are the best I've ever had and I've had them in many many places. The service was exceptional. The touristy gift shop is entertaining. And they have a coffee bar to serve fresh ground coffees, including espresso. Came back the next morning for the delicious coffee. Many visiting the area may only go to the nearby Dillard House repeatedly but that would be a mistake. read more

Drove into town somewhat tired and cranky after a long day leaf peeping and was staying at the local motel about a stone's throw away. Went there for a somewhat late dinner and the place was PACKED - always a good sign. Decided on the chicken dish (sorry didn't write down the name), but it had a grilled chicken breast (mine looked more like pan-fried, even better!) and had bacon, grilled mushrooms and several cheeses melted on top. AWESOME best describes this dish. The portion was so big (and those who have read my reviews know I'm no skinny diet freak) that I had to take half with me (which I ate for dinner the next night). great blend of flavors and textures, this really hit the spot on a cool evening. The place was so good, we went back the next morning before we left for breakfast. All the typical diner fare, all prepared just right - but if you get homefries, make sure to have the waitress tell them to make them extra crispy -they'll come out perfectly browned like they should. read more

We were on a weekend trip to the mountains and had a craving for fried chicken from a mom and pop establishment. We read the ratings on yelp and stopped here. First we asked for mashed potatoes and found that they don't offer them everyday. It really isn't that hard to make them. It doesn't mention this on the menu. We accepted the buttered potatoes. Then we wanted banana pudding which everyone craved online. They also didn't offer that everyday although their menu listed it under desserts but didn't mention certain days like they mentioned. The fried chicken and the potatoes were extremely bland. We wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Sadly...KFC is better that this place. I have to give them credit for being friendly though. read more

Some of the best I have ever had. It's just a shame that this place is off the beaten path, but maybe that's why it is so good. Having been born and raised in Rabun County, I spend a great deal of time there, and have frequented this establishment numerous times but not for a couple of years. I've always known this place to be a reliable spot to get a good omelette, and start the day's activities with a good sound breakfast. The last few times; however, it's been a bit worse, but remained on the list. This time, the waitress clearly wasn't happy about being there and set the tone for the experience, which wasn't pleasant, but since being friendly and engaging isn't a job requirement, I tried to keep a good morning going and ignored her attitude. She took our order in a cold, professional manner, being sure to shut down any attempt to be pleasant, but the order was correct and that is what ultimately matters. However, when she placed on the table in front of me, a sad looking, pale, ugly, unappetizing, bacon and cheese omelette, garnished with cheese, not even melted, I paused. I cut into the middle of it, and the cheese was still in shreds that I could pick up with my fingers and sprinkle about, no melt whatsoever, and cold to the touch....$9.00 for that??? I told the waitress that I didn't want it, and didn't want anything else. Never once asking or implying that I was not going to pay. The look the waitress gave me, no words, just a look that was completely unacceptable. It was at this point, I then realized looking at my son, that he was not happy about the food that had been placed in front him. By that time, the waitress had gotten the manager. I explained to her about the cold omelette, and worse yet, the unacceptable attitude of the waitress. The manager then also noticed my son was unhappy, who hadn't said anything yet, she looks at him and scoldingly asks him what was wrong with his food. Before he can explain to her, she is pulling the food from in front of him, pressing him and interrupting him...he never did get to express the difficulty. She then turns to me and proceeds to question me about being there the other day. I said no, it wasn't me (I live 3.5 hours away :)). She then asks again about me being there. I again explained that it was not me. She continues to harp on it, saying then I must have twin, almost as if she were implying that I was lying about being that person she thought I was. She then demands that I pay the bill at the table instead of the register and literally stands over me as if I were some common theif, as I pay the bill she presented, unitemized, without further complaint. I am shocked and astonished at the rude manner in which me, and my family were treated. On the way to the vehicle, my son asked me what had just happened in there. I told him that our waitress was in a bad mood, and when I complained about my omelette not being cooked properly, the manager mistakenly thought we were someone else, and threw us out. He laughed a bit, and said yep, okay, just wanted to make sure I wasn't the only one that just had that experience. It was a very unpleasant experience. read more

There were lots of positive reviews, and it was one of the few places open on a Sunday evening, so we gave them a try while staying in a nearby cabin. Not sure if it was because it was a Sunday evening or if it's normal, but their food was just okay. I had turkey and dressing with cranberry sauce. The turkey was a bit dry, and the dressing was just kind of a glob on my plate. The staff was very friendly and they had a cute gift store attached to it. Overall, a bit disappointing. read more

Living in the South you have a lot of great country cooking type restaurants. The meat-and-two-veg, veggie plate, blue plate places are numerous but sadly most of them are mediocre. Canned vegetables or two-day old dishes are common... BUT NOT HERE! We were in Dillard to meet up with family for 24 hours and we ate at Cupboard Cafe twice! First, their fried chicken is likely the best I've ever had in my life. So good that I had it at both meals (once as the fried chicken plate and once as the boneless breast). It is outstanding. Second, let's talk about sides. I had celery stuffing and gravy and it was so fresh, it tasted like we'd just pulled a roasted chicken out of the oven. The gravy was homemade and delicious. The macaroni and cheese was also fresh - no curdled cheese sauce from being steamed all day, noodles not mush. Then I had their butternut squash souffle. I love butternut squash but I assumed it would be canned squash with topping - I was wrong. Fresh, baked butternut squash, mashed, and then topped with some delicious nut topping. So good. So, so, so good. At dinner we had a slice of peanut butter cream pie. Fresh baked, creamy, just incredible. At lunch, we had a big group and got a few desserts - banana pudding, coconut pie, and coconut cake. All delicious. The pie was so light. The service was awesome, the portion sizes are awesome, the little shop up front is adorable. They have plenty of room for large parties. Skip Dillard House and go straight here. You will not be sorry. Cupboard Cafe, I live 2.5 hours away but you will see me again - SOON! read more

Great place for breakfast and lunch. Try the Spanish omelet - it's awesome! The country ham is very flavorful. My wife and I eat here frequently when traveling north to NC. Service is friendly and very professional. We see the same ladies working every time we visit which reflects employee loyalty. Serving size for most entrees is perfect for an NFL linebacker although they have lighter fare and a salad bar. The extensive menu offers many country cooking favorites along with the traditional American fare.. Sorry no TVs to distract you while you enjoy a pleasant meal with family and friends. I live 30 minutes from here, and the breakfast is great. We went for dinner and had fried chicken, which is supposed to be a restaurant specialty. It was extremely dry and although it was the special, it tasted as though it had been sitting around for awhile. The reason that I didn't give it a higher rating was the service. The server kept coming over and taking our plates before we finished our meal. We never got a refill on drinks and she got upset because my elderly Mom didn't want to use her salad bar plate to get salad until her meal arrived. I can understand the rush if it was very busy, however, there were only two other parties in the entire restaurant. The waitress was not a people person and it was quite obvious. I would not recommend this restaurant for dinner. read more
