This place is dangerous: it's just up the street from our kid's school, and sometimes we pop round for a post-pickup treat. We also just put in a big order for the kiddo's 5th birthday party and the service was excellent. Highly recommend! Friendly staff, clean facility, bathrooms for the public (for when the kid is doing the peepee dance after pickup). Our favorite flavors by far are the rainbow sprinkle fun-fetti (so good!) and the cookies and cream, which has an Oreo cookie baked into the bottom of the cupcake: wow! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!!!!! I needed to order a cake & thought I'd give this place a try! I had never tried any of their goodies so I opted for the TOFFEE CUPCAKE!!!!! It was DELECTABLE!!!! Ordered a strawberry cake which was a BIG HIT! The birthday girl really enjoyed it. I'm giving this location another one star review. Let me start by saying I'm a big fan of Cupcakin' overall and have been a customer since the original shop location was on Durant Ave. As many of you know parking on telegraph isn't always the best so I decided I'd swing by the Shattuck Avenue location again because it was easier to get to and on my way home. I had written a review last time about the cashier that was very rude and sure enough the same person is here again. Her attitude is very offputting and immediately when you walk in the door she will ask you what would you like and it's very annoying. If you gave a person a moment to look throughout the case they are more likely to buy more cupcakes but since you quickly try to force them out I just pick fewer items and leave. In this case it was for my friends birthday. I had also asked for two separate boxes but since she was too busy trying to get rid of people per usual she forgot and remembered at the end and I just said forget about it. I do not recommend this location and I will not be returning indefinitely. read more

It was an administrative nightmare dealing with the shop; I placed an order online - the pickup was routed to Telegraph. I called back and requested a Shattuck pick-up which was confirmed via text. Two days before my pick-up I once again called the store and confirmed the Shattuck pick-up was also confirmed on the phone as well as the text. On the day of pick-up when I went to pick up the cake, I was told that the store was unaware of the cake and I had to go to Telegraph for pick-up. I spoke to the manager and shared the texts with her - she told me this was a mistake from the concierge and that somebody would call me in 24 hrs. It's been more than 3 days there has been no call from the store. The cake was great, but the experience was really bad. The store manager was also un-apologetic about this. read more

I had eaten a few different full-sized cupcakes from Cupcakin' and enjoyed them enough to order 64 mini cupcakes for my daughter's birthday party. Alyssa was responsive and easy to communicate with, and even indulged a last-minute addition. The delivery was exactly on time and the team accommodated a tight schedule, and on a Sunday. We ordered about 10 different types, including both gluten-free and vegan, and the party guests who needed those said they were the best GF or V cupcakes they've had! Several guests wanted to know where the cupcakes came from because they were so good. Best of all, I got to sample a variety of flavors I hadn't had before, and now can say that everything from Cupcakin' is absolutely delicious. With their fourth location opened in Walnut Creek, Lila Owens is on a roll and I'm so proud of her for being such a professional business owner. From the very beginning, Cupcakin has been serving some of the best cupcakes I've ever eaten. If you can't find a flavor, there's something seriously wrong. I haven't even tried all the flavors yet because when I purchase them, I also purchase them for my clients and ask the employee to just give me an assortment, so I've tried just about every flavor. The cupcakes are so fresh and beautiful and they even sell day olds which, when you think about it, if you made a batch at home, you might have left overs, so if you're on a tight budget, get the day olds and I dare you to tell me there is a difference. That's how good Cupcakin' is. I think I read they even sell some cupcakes that might not be perfect, i.e., may have taken a fall or are not up to full price standards. In any event, you'll love these cupcakes. The employees seem happy at every location (the 3 I've been to) and it's hard to get good people who know how to really handle a retail job. These are the most delicious cupcakes I've ever had! They are the perfect amount of sweet, the cake is very moist, and the flavors are wonderful. I really appreciate that this bakery offers a different vegan cupcake each month. When I went today the flavor was vanilla raspberry. It seemed apparent when I tried to peel of the paper that the cake part was significantly under-baked (much of the cake was stuck to the paper and it completely lost its shape by the time the paper was off). The cupcakes here are truly top notch, they're incredibly moist and you can tell they're freshly baked. Lots of different flavors available, my favorite is the vanilla salted caramel but you truly cannot go wrong with any of the flavors. First time I ordered, I believe the owner helped me package the large 8 dozen order of the minis, without issues. She even gave me some free cookies for the large order. My staff loved the cupcakes so I went back today and ordered 8 dozen more of the minis. The cashier misunderstood me and only packaged 1 box of minis, but when I requested 3 more, she stated that I had a limit as to how many minis I could order. I was completely confused as to why there's a limit on how many cupcakes I can order. I had 4 sites in total to provide cupcakes to, so I was in a bit of a dilemma. Luckily it all worked out, but they should let customers know to preorder if we're not able to pick up a few dozen cupcakes the day of. It felt as if I was begging for cupcakes. read more

These cupcakes and cookies are delicious BUT I recently made a delivery order to my son's first birthday in Tilden Park, Three weeks before the event. The week before, the shop called me to confirm the order. On the day of, the cupcakes were delivered 2.5 hours late. During this wait time I got a call (a half hour after the scheduled delivery) to confirm the location and get detailed directions. I provided the directions listed on the Regional Parks website to that specific picnic area verbatim. I offered to speak to the driver directly and they declined. I received a second call (a half hour later) that the delivery was incomplete and so they needed to return to the shop to "bake off" the remaining cookies. I received additional calls and texts from the delivery people who were lost and I also spoke to them on the phone. Eventually the order arrived 2.5 hours after the scheduled delivery. I called the next day to give them feedback on my order in a cordial way. When I received a callback, I was met with explanations about how the bakery should've never excepted an order to a Park site and feedback for ME that my directions were insufficient and unclear. I used directions given to me by the Tilden Regional Park that are posted on the website. The shop had three weeks to look at my order summary, see that it was to a park site and have the foresight to say to themselves "oh this order is to a Park site we cannot fulfill that order, let's call the customer and ask if they can pick it up." Unfortunately, that's not what happened and the dessert at my son's first birthday was beyond late. The person I spoke to on the phone made no effort to make it right other than saying "I'm sorry" that the person who took the order made a mistake. And implying that they would have been there an hour earlier if my directions were better. Too bad these cupcakes are so good, because otherwise I'd never go again. read more

I found out the day before that both vegan and nut -allergy friends would be attending. I noticed they set it up in the boxes in perfect order from the receipt I signed. Amusingly, when I asked a copy of what I ordered so I could align it for guests, I was given a bunch of "no" options including "it is on- line". "You could have seen that when you ordered" and so on. I cannot identify your varieties like you can and if you've ever seen a person need to take out their epi-pen - it is traumatic. The correct tesponse would be -- why do you ask? When you say no for the third time, you risk losing customers. Rock on! It is all about the customer experience!!! We are all learning!! read more

We've ordered three different cakes on different occasions. Two were so sweet that both adults and children complained it was too sweet to eat and did not eat more than a couple of bites. Cupcakin' Bake Shop is awesome. Yes, I did purchase items at the Virginia Bakery and was fond of the cupcakes and cookies that were made there. I even ordered cakes from time to time. When that bakery closed, I hoped that another fine bakery would open in its place. Cupcakin' certalnly holds its own, not as a replacement to Virginia Bakery, but as a uniquely delicious addition to the Shattuck and Virginia Streets. I don't live that close by so I don't get cupcakes as often as I might if I lived closer, but I do eagerly travel to the bakery at times. I have never been disappointed.
