I'm a little bit obsessed with these cupcakes. I'm not the biggest sweets person, so i guess i like my cupcakes on the fancier side. These are the best in recent memory. I'm not in Oakland often but the last three times I was in the area, I made sure to stop by the get cupcakes. I wish their minis selection matched up with their regular-sized selection since the minis are my ideal. I love their red velvet. I love the chocolate toffee. I got the lemon blackberry most recently and it was great. If I can, i take it home and cut them into fourths which might be my ideal bite size and consumption method for standard-sized cupcakes. Anyhow, these are fantastic cupcakes. The staff are always so nice. Love the display of cupcakes. Best for my health that these are a treat across the Bay rather than something i have regular access to. The line is never too long and moves quickly. read more

Kudos to Cupcakin' Bake Shop's owner and Oakland native Lila Owens for turning her dream into a reality because Cupcakin' is officially a franchise, as they have opened their second location in the East Bay. Cupcakin' has been drawing a loyal following to their Berkeley cupcake shop for so many years, so much so, they had to move into a bigger space there. Now they've opened in the bustling Swan's Market Food Hall in the former Hen House space. With neighbors like popular fast casual restaurants Cosecha and AS B-Dama, it's the only dessert-focused operation at Swan's and the perfect compliment to those places. I decided I needed an appropriate hostess present and what else could I bring but a box cupcakes? Although Swan's was packed with customers on the Saturday afternoon I went, you will notice the Cupcakin' counter from the moment you enter Swan's Market. I learned that in order to order the best looking cupcakes in a decorative box, they serve them in containers of two, four or more. After looking at the countertop filled with an abundance of delectable goodies filled with traditional and mini sized cupcakes, I couldn't decide what to order so the team at Cupcakin' told me what their favorites they had in stock that day. The cupcake flavors I ordered were the Lemon Cream Pie, the Chocolate Salted Caramel, the Cookies & Cream and for good measure, I chose the Lemon Berry which had a delightful boysenberry as a garnish. After quickly trying one later, I understand why these cupcakes are so popular moist, yet not too super sweet, I became an instant fan upon first bite. And the price was reasonable considering the amount of food you receive, my total order for four cupcakes was only 15 dollars! Apparently, they have other flavors that I have my eye on for the future including red velvet and key lime pie, and they also have vegan and gluten-free options for those with food allergies. With fun flavors and unique toppings they clearly pay a lot of attention of what goes into the texture of their cupcakes, which makes Cupcakin' stand apart from so many competitors they have out there. Here's to a dream of finally becoming a reality and continued success of Cupcakin's growing empire, which includes an upcoming third location in the Gourmet Ghetto area of Berkeley. So....I recently discovered this place while walking around Old Oakland. I'm really not a cupcake person, I prefer cookies, but I do love a mini cupcake so decided to stop in. I initially tried to place an order for two mini cupcakes but was told the minimum was three - I found that kind of strange, but I ordered three nonetheless. The three I got we're good. I specifically liked the s'mores mini cupcake and the vanilla cupcake with the milk chocolate icing. I found the Keylime cupcake to be somewhat dry and crumbly. I've been to this location twice - ordering 3 to 4 cupcakes - and they've always put it in a little box and by the time I get it home one mini has tilted over no matter how carefully I attempt to transport. I recently went to the location on Telegraph and I ordered again three cupcakes and a cookie. What I found different and better at this location is that without even prompting the person put my cupcakes in a box with a divider which prevented my cupcakes from tilting over. I bought six cupcakes. They were overpriced for the size. They were not the best either. They were dry, not moist like a cupcake should be. I wanted to support but they were terrible. Located in SWAN'S mkt, this is the best cupcake place. I came in kinda late in the day on a Thursday and so the selection was very limited. I got to try the following: Summer Berry - vanilla cake filled with fresh strawberry jam and decorated with blueberries and raspberries on top. Chocolate salted caramel - chocolate cake with salted caramel butter cream and salted caramel drizzle. Between these 2, the chocolate salted caramel takes the WIN. Let's just say that I will be ordering cupcakes from here on out for all occasions. I will find any reason now to celebrate with these local, artisan cupcakes. Ok I am a cupcake lover, and I like simple fluffy, springy cake with creamy frosting, not a hard hat of too-sweet junk. This place is perfection. Truly. I tried a few that were all tremendous, not too overdone, but came back to the chocolate cake (dark light moist cake) with vanilla icing. Finally popped my cherry the other day and came for a variety half dozen. Carrot cake was good, very cinnamony, great balance of the flavors. The Black Forest was very rich, I liked the Oreo crust I think it will be even better if there's some kind of fillings Red velvet was soooooo good, this was the 3rd cupcake I ate I was so hungry I literally stuff my face with the cupcake. So moist and soft and the cream cheese was excellent Peppermint was very strong in flavor, I'm not a minty person so this didn't hit the spot but the kids loved it Salted Caramel was probably one of the best. It was fantastic, well balanced. The salty caramel was soooooo yummy. The vegan vanilla cranberry was yummy as well couldn't tell the difference between this and a regular cupcake. I'm a sucker for red velvet cake so I thought I would like that flavor the most, but it turned out that my favorite was the vanilla Salty Caramel. The vanilla (with the bluish swirl) was also super good. I saw from a flyer that they also make cakes, so I'll have to remember that the next time I want to treat my guests to something special. A few days experienced the worst customer service possible. Spent all day looking for vegan options for a cake or cupcakes for a HUGE BIRTHDAY PARTY locally and came across this establishment. Arrived around 5:30p, walked in and saw employee sweeping (thought nothing of it). Employee looked up and said "WE CLOSED" and proceeded to finish sweeping. If you're "closed" (even tho signage said 6pm) it would have been smart to lock the doors to stop customers from walking in and being treated rudely. You never know WHO you are coming in contact with or how much money was going to be spent. Note to owner: Train your employees to get EVERY DIME, until closing time. read more

This place is most likely the MOST DELICIOUS cupcake place I have EVER BEEN TO! They DO NOT disappoint - I am always now so excited to come here for seasonal flavors. Cupcakin provided all of the cupcakes and the bride and groom cake for my daughter's wedding on May 28, 2023. They provided gluten free cupcakes, vegan cupcakes and regular cupcakes due to the different dietary needs of our guests. They also made the bride and groom cake a gluten free key lime cake as the bride is gluten free. It's with every level of enthusiasm I have to let anyone know whose reading this that these were the BEST cupcakes I've ever had, and many of our wedding guests told me the same thing. I've had several inquiries as to where we got them. They were so delicious and moist and the cake, frosting, and filling for each cupcake were exceptional. My mom got me a variety of cupcakes from here delivered for my birthday. These cupcakes are ridiculously good. Crackcakes are what they are. They are so damn good. The flavors I tried were Red Velvet, Lemon, Strawberry, and Chocolate. ALL of them were exceptional. The texture was perfect. They aren't overly sweet, and the flavors are present, so you can't help but enjoy every bite. I am not a fan of lemon desserts at all, but the lemon cupcake was my favorite out of all of them. It had a delicious lemon curd (I think) in the middle with a graham cracker bottom and delicate frosting. The lemon cupcake is perfection. They are all perfection. if you have a large order, dont come here. If you want to do a phone order, be prepared to waste a day. I called for a phone order for 200 mini cupcakes at $1.95. The total they communicated was $400 flat with delivery. The vendor promised a receipt immediately. they never sent one until i cancelled my order. After giving them my credit card over the phone and not getting a receipt I called the store multiple times the next day. After 6 hours of waiting for the receipt, I received a text receipt from square for $2,151!! I flipped out and drove to the store. As I parked, the manager finally called me back to tell me she sent me the wrong receipt. I cancelled my order after that, I received my original charge receipt via email around the same time.
